Caoimhe was beaming at her skill in finding the toddler when Seung chided her for her skill. "It isn't my fault you are a bad hider!" she challenged, immediately reducing herself to the toddler's age. The selkie Fa'e dug her toes a little deeper into the sand of the beach, staring out at the water with a mix of trepidation and longing.
Luckily, Seung did not let the girl linger in her confusion as the small Fa'e was suddenly commanding Caoimhe to go hide now. Excited at the prospect of the game, the brunette teen began to inch away from Seung, shouting a stern, "NO peeking. I am serious." Aha! She would show Seung who was boss now!
Running across the immediate area of the beach, Caoimhe searched and searched for a spot that seemed appropriate, but most of them proved to be too small. First, she tried to hop in a trashcan, but a local beachgoer practically tackled her for trying to dump out the trash on the beach. Caoi tried to explain she would pick it up after, but it was to no avail. So, left with few other options, the feverish girl began digging as fast as she could into the sand, small muscles pumping in her toned forearms.
Diving under a blanket of sand, the selkie Fa'e tried hard not to breathe, hoping that Seung would be utterly tunned to see a Caoimhe-shaped lump of sand on the beach. Not to mention the fact that both her toes and part of her hair were entirely visible.

Seung stuck her tounge out at the older Fa'e as she went off. "Won't peek!" To prove it, she clapped both hands over her eyes. The toddler was tempted to take a little look, but she was determined to prove she wouldn't to Caoimhe. "Hana...tul...set...net..." Seung counted slowly.
She got stuck at fourteen and stomped her feet in frustration as she tried to remember the next number. Finally she gave up and shouted," Sumul!" It was close enough, right?
"Where'd she go?" the mothfish asked her plushie. No answer. The girl pushed her way through the crowd, standing up on tiptoe to look around better every now and then. Unfortunately, she was too short to get a good look with all the people around. Then she spotted the lifeguard watchtower and one could almost see the wheels turning in her head...

(( Whoops! I missed that you had posted. Sorry! ))
Caoimhe laid breathless in her hiding spot, grinning like an idiot at the game. She could hear Seung stopping around on the sand, and slowly, she sensed the footsteps leading away from her. Yes, Caoimhe seemed to have fooled the toddler! What an accomplishment!
Daring to peek, the selkie Fa'e made a small hole that she could see through, spotting the blue form of the mothfish tottering off toward the lifeguard stand. Something dormant in Caoi flared suddenly. A light sweat trickled upon her as she imagined the toddler attempting to get up the watchtower; she wanted to run over and scoop her up and protect her.
The maternal instincts made Caoi's head swim so she fought them back, turning her head away and trying to smother the emotions in her. Still, she silently prayed that Seung wouldn't try to climb the watchtower.

Seung managed to get a third of the way up the tower before she was suddenly plucked off. She yelled in outrage, flailing arms, legs, and wings until the lifeguard dropped her. The toddler dropped, only to hover a few inches above the sand. "Bad bad meanie!" she scolded the red-suited woman.
"Kid, it's dangerous to climb stuff like that. You're too little. Now where's your mommy?" Seung made a face at the lifeguard and ran off. She tried to get as far away as she could from the meanie lifeguard, angling closer to Caiomhe's hiding place as she did so.

(( Holy crap. NIM. I never noticed that you had replied to this thread. I suck so much. I'll just do a quick exit post to wrap this up, but again, I am so sorry!))
Narrowing her eyes at the approach of the lifeguard, Caoimhe felt relief wash over her as Seung was removed from the stand. She couldn't stand the thought of the kid getting hurt, especially since it would be her fault for not acting. Kids needed to be protected. They needed...
Blue-green eyes flashed up to the lifeguard as the word "mommy" was said. Vomit wretched in the selkie's throat, and her eyes teared. What was happening to her? Flashes of a white bundle drifting away from her tore across her vision, like it had always been there just waiting to appear. Breathless, she thrust herself from her hiding place, falling in the sand in front of Seung.
She looked up at the toddler, and again, there was that feeling, that pang of regret and pain and love. The roar of waves in the background only made it intensify. Caoimhe couldn't take it. "You win," she said, swallowing back the tears that ran down her face. She didn't know why; she couldn't understand what was happening to her. It was a word. A word. "Make sure you go home now. Get home and don't climb on lifeguard towers or talk to strangers or... whatever. Okay? Okay?" She backed away, muttering and waving apologies, before turning off and sprinting away.
Whatever was happening to her, that child had brought it on. It was a heavy feeling, like her legs were filled with sand. Caoimhe wasn't ready to face what this emotion could mean, what the white bundle was. So she ran and kept running until she made it back to her guardian and their quarters. A quick shower gave her a breath to calm down, and when she came out, she let herself fall asleep, trying to push the image of Seung and the white bundle far from her mind.
