She blinked at the suggestion that they might taste like fish, her throbbing head not letting her make a full once over of Sid before. Now she noticed his webbed and scaley hands and the tail coming out from behind him. "Fish? Is that what you're turning into then?"

Rachel put the pills into her mouth, and raised the glass to her lips as she waited for his response. She took a large gulp and grimaced as the thick liquid hit her tounge. "This stuff is horrible!" she exclaimed after she had swallowed it.

"That or an incredibly ******** up cat." Sid said. He grinned at Rachel's reaction to the drink. "I never said it was gonna be pleasant. Try holding your nose while you drink or something."

He took a moment to glance past her to the TV.

Rachel gave him a withering look at the cat joke. She really wasn't in the mood, with the way she was feeling. "Right...do you know what kind?"

She gave a thoughtful shrug at the suggestion that she hold her nose. Raising the glass in a psudeo-toast, she pinched her nose and took another large gulp. She shuddered as she swallowed, but was pleased to see that about half of the glass was empty now. When she lowered the glass, she noticed Sid's eyes flicker to the TV.

"Whatcha watching?"

"Viperfish." Sid didn't drag his oversized back to Rachel until she asked what he was watching. Eye candy she definitely wasn't, but he wasn't quite in the right mood to pick at her about it. The hangover was likely bad enough, and he could sympathize with that all too well. In any case, he was eager to move to subject away from what he was half way to being.

"Raising Arizona," he said, making a completely unnecessary gesture at the TV. "In a nutshell? It's about this ex-con who marries a police officer, only they can't have kids, so he decides to steal a baby... That's Nicholas Cage with the moustache."

"Viperfish..." it rang a bell, but she couldn't quite manage to bring up the image of the actual fish in her head, even with those distinctive teeth. She thought she'd probably remember it later, after her hangover was gone. Then she could think better.

"Hmm..." she said, glancing at the screen. "Never heard of it before. Is it funny?"
PostPosted: Tue Nov 28, 2006 11:17 pm

Sid laughed tersely, as if she really had to ask. "It's a classic... but nothing's all that funny when you're hungover, as I'm sure you're discovering." He smirked. He was even to the point that he didn't poke himself too much as he did it.

It was a terrible thing to think he might be cheered up by other people's suffering, however minute... but the thought was out of Sid's mind almost as quickly as it occurred. That wasn't true, not really, not that he'd admit. He wasn't that much of a bitter old man. It was just that he had his typewriter back, and as far as he knew nothing terrible had happened in the last few days. So, all things considered (considering he had forgotten he was supposed to be writing), he felt okay.

"You can stay, if you want. I don't mind talking through the movie. I've seen it, like, a thousand times anwyay."

"Yeah...otherwise I might have laughed at the messed up cat comment earlier..." she made a face and pinched her nose again, downing another large gulp of the liquid.

"I guess I'll stay. Maybe it'll help me not think about my head."

That got another laugh out of Sid. "Nothing will, but it'll pass."

He managed to watch the movie for about three seconds before looking back over and asking, "How much did you drink, anyway?"

"Um...hmm...." Rachel had to think about that one for a minute. "I'm not entirely sure..." She looked at the glass in her hand and raised showing she was referring to it.

"I think one of these half vodka, half lemon soda...and...more of just vodka..." she looked at him sheepishlky, trying not to cringe as her head gave another painful throb. To cover it up, she plugged her nose again and took the last gulp from the glass, smacking in distaste when she was finished.

Sid looked Rachel over once more and nodded to himself. "That'd do it."

He tried not to grin. Tried and failed. Hopefully it went unnoticed as she downed the last of the remedy. Yeah, hopefully...

As Rachel lowered the glass, she thought she saw Sid smile...no...he wouldn't have...would he? She gave him a suspiciously inquiring look as she saw that indeed he was.

"What are you grinning about over there?" she asked in a somewhat testy voice.

"Grinning?" He said, raising his eyebrows. "Ah, nah..." He pointed at his mouth. "It just looks like that sometimes, seeing as... Well, you can see."

"Hmm...." Rachel said, not believing him, but she didn't really have anything to back it up with. Besides, fighting right now would only increase her headache to something completely unbearable. She set the glass down on the table next to her.

"So what's your way of dealing with life here? I can tell you I've found one way not for me to deal with it." She made a face, reflecting how she felt about her current state-of-being.

"You're just not used to drinking is all," Sid said blithely. "It's hard to say, cause I'm getting the impression that every time you feel like you've worked something out- that you've adjusted- bam!" He slapped his hands together for emphasis. "You change. So... I dunno, I just deal, try not to freak out about it too much."

And there were assort drugs and alcoholic beveridges in copious amounts, but no one needed to hear about that.

"Ah, I see..." Rachel said, slightly disappointed. She'd been hoping he could help her with some kind of strategy to get through life here. Oh well...she'd figure it out eventually.

"Well...I think I'll let you get back to your movie," she said, rising from the couch, giving him a small smile. "Thanks for your help. I think I'm gonna go try and sleep the rest of this off."
