Sho-Totoron Seconded. Wicked has some good music, but I guess it'll never really be of much interest to me until I see the show. Yeah. It's not my type of music. Plus, Idina isn't my favorite person in the world at all.

GAH! I've been spazzing all week to those songs. I can't stop listening to them! Idina is absolutely incredible in Wicked. I really think she should have been able to sing alot more in RENT, in my opinion.
Oh well though. Anyhow, I really think that people are liking Wicked more than RENT, Because she gets to belt more often than ever in RENT. RENT was about Love, Living, and Friendship. Wicked is about Life, Being who you are, and also Friendship. There are alot of similarities between the two.
You just have to look a little bit harder.

Ariies hazie5 Ariies I'd say the wider theme is to embrace who you are and live your life how you want to, siezing the moment and going after what you care about. Also, I'd almost say the exact opposite thing about friendship...they both show that true friendship goes deeper than the now and here...a friendship that is torn apart by time or change isn't a wasted relationship, because it leaves you iwth everything you got from them. And deep relationships last through think and thin. As for the casting, I think that and the style of music also has a lot to do with it. Both Wicked and RENT on modern musicals with modern, more mainstream music that other musicals. And while Idina is a big part of the similar casts, RENT and Wicked have also both had Norbert Leo Butz, Taye Diggs, Kristoffer Cusick, Kendra Kassebaum, Sebastian Arcelus, Saycon Sengbloh, Timothy Britten Parker, and others who I won't go through listing razz Aida also wasn't nearly as big of a show as Wicked is. But I do see a lot of fans of both Aida and RENT. However, other than a few similar cast members (Saycon too, yeah?) and some musical style, I don't think Aida and RENT have much in common... true, true well Aida had both Mureen and Rodger in it and it doesn't seem to have the same pull.... I think a lot of it has to do with the same type of music it is, and Aida is a very different style. Also, they both have the theme of the courage to stand up for what you believe in.

I'd say Aida, music-wise, is just a hop, skip, and a leap away from RENT and to some extenet Wicked.

I love "Wicked" to death, and I was so excited when I realzed Idina Menzel was in both.
I'm not sure, but maybe it's just a Broadway freaks' thing...although not every Broadway lover has to love EVERY show out there, like there's people above saying they're not much into "Wicked", just like I'm not much of a "Phantom of the Opera" fan -gets killed by PotO freaks-

To be honest, I haven't really seen "Wicked," but have heard a couple songs like "Popular" and "Defying Gravity." What might be a bit interesting is the fact that the women's choir at our school is supposed to be doing a medley from "Wicked," while the mixed choir is doing "Rent". In any case, it's more than likely gonna rock at the same time 3nodding

I freaking love Wicked, cause it was the first broadway play I saw. I really wasn't interested in Broadway until a like 2 years ago and then my parents took me to see Wicked on New Years last year. I know, that's not much time to be a musical lover, but I have now seen 7 all across the country. Not to mention the musicals I see in hollywood videos eek

i think that RENT and Wicked are similar because of the music and underlying themes in both shows. both musicals include music thats appealing to a younger crowd around the teen age and even to the older people of this century. its very modern and in a world thats ever changing its good to ahve music thats lasting i mean i dont think i could ever not like the music in both musicals. aslo as i read earlier the strong bond between freinds and the ups and downs involved with having freinds and keeping them. this is just what i think mrgreen
