Welcome Home!

I lead Hige home after our eventful capture. Sometimes he'd fall over for no apparent reason, I'd look and there would be a hole that wasn't there before. "You have awful luck." I say curiously and shrug, "The spirits like messing with you, huh?"

Hige just snorts sourly.

I sigh and shrug again, "We'll fix that sooner or later. Maybe they are allergic to good luck charms?" while saying this thoughtfully we approach my tree house.

Yeah, I live in a tree, have since I escap'd that labratory place, and I don't plan ever on going back there either. Hige looks confused and probably wonders where he will be living. I shrug and pat the center of the tree, "Gonna make your home here, and probably build on extra space too." I add.

Hige looks confused, "Don't worry, I can make stuff happen without hurting the tree." I say to him while petting out his gray'd mane. "I wouldn't hurt nature, she takes care of me." I say in a rather philosophical tone, at least that's what I think. I probably sound crazy to Hige.

I lead Hige to a spring where I often wash up and begin cleaning the mud off of him from the sticky mudhole he fell in while I was trying to capture him. The water was warm enough so he didn't shiver much. After we were done, we played a little chasing eacother around my tree.

When it was bedtime, instead of climbing into my house up in the branches of the tree, I slept with him using his side as a pillow and he'd lay his head against the tree. We lay like that all curled up. It was the best night sleep I ever had. Me and him will be friends forever, at least I hope so. Even now I am amazed that he let me close to him like this, I think it is 'cos he's still thankful that I got him out of that very sticky situation...

Grumpy Foal

Dunno how to explain it other than the fact that Hige seems awful grumpy lately. He has made a habit of avoiding me when he seems me coming around. I think it's cause his stable isn't done yet. He doesn't seem to understand how hard it is for me to empty out a space large enough for him to live in it. He'll appreciate it when it's done, I'm sure of it.

Tsvellin, the tree's name that we live in, is happy though. At least I am not just cutting him up. He was too happy to help me choose points in which to kinda magically carve out and keep him alive. At first he was sorta alarmed at the idea. After assuring him though, he seemed okay. I got a dryad to help me a little as well. She lives in a tree not far from me, but she usually likes to just be left alone. The Dryad owed me a favor so she helped me with Tsvellin.

The space is a suitable size, or soon will be, just a few more notches. It sorta bothers me that something is wrong with Hige but yet I can't pin-point it. Maybe he misses something, or is sore that I haven't given him prezzies yet. They're coming soon enough, the stall is a part of one of his prezzies. I wonder what sorta colors he'll like.

....

Camille wandered up to Hige, who seemed rather snappish toward her approach, "What? I'm sorry, whatever it was I did." Camille stepped back respectfully, "What colors do you like? Any? None?" She figured he could indicate his surroundings, he was settled in a patch of different color wildflowers.

Hige sorta sighed, he wanted to be left alone. He stared balefully at the young girl who was looking at him with concern. For a moment he felt a pang of guilt for the way he was treating her and turned his head away in shame.

"Well?" Camille said anxiously, "It'll help me paint your stall."

Another pang of guilt, she was working so hard for him, and what was he doing for her. He huffed a sigh, and looked around the patch he had settled in. He indicated a flower with black petals and strange jade green tribal-esque markings. He indicated also a flower that just so happened to have a Japanese kanji on it for luck. He didn't realize it of course. Camille didn't either she just tilted her head a bit then nodded.

"Are you..upset because you have bad Luck?" She asked before leaving.

He stared at the ground before him, it was bothering him a little, but he didn't like to admit it.

Camille tilted her head, "Don't worry, I'm sure we can do something for that." she said optimistically, and left to finish hollowing Tsvellin.
....

Well that was a bit harder than I thought it would be. I sigh out as I wander back to Tsvellin. The Dryad had made good progress during my absense. She was napping near her tree now, probably tired out from the exertion. I sort of feel bad because...I can't do things on my own though I desperately desire to. I hear that adults always tell children they are too young to do certain things, I think I understand why....

Wakey, Wakey

After a couple of weeks almost getting my head kicked off by a very startled foal I decided to try and find different ways of waking him up.
And in the past couple of days these are the results of the actions I took until today, which I try something new.

1) Alarm clock.
Result: Still woke up kicking, and seeming just generally panicky.

2) Rumbling/Vibrating Teddy-bear.
Result: It resulted in him ripping it's head off..I think he hates teddy bears now... Eh heh.

3) Morning Calls via Trumpet or loud instruments.
Result: It ..was a little closer but not right.

4) Nudging, gently calling his name.
Result: Eh..HEHEHE no..That almost got me a blackeye as soon as I touched him.

***

Today's attempt:

I had been working on building a set of panpipes and practicing with it on and off. I had one of the forest creatures teach me, he said I was a fast learner so it was a rather fast attempt. He taught me a soothing wake-up melody his mother used for him when she'd wake him for his schooling lessons when he was young. All in all I hope it's a lot more pleasant for him. The music instructor, who was a faerie, also taught me a couple of other instruments and helped me get some so let's hope that if the panpipes don't work something does.

In the early morn I sat and watched Hige sleep near his near by would be stall, it's almost done, I just need someone help me safety it up for Hige. When the sunlight flooded in through the canopy, or at least tried to, I began playing the panpipes. Slow and easy to begin with, he began to slowly stir. After a while I'd get just a little louder so that he knew it wasn't a dream. After a while he was sitting up and staring at me with a confused, yet content look to his eyes. I think we have a winner. I grinned at him and offered him an apple for breakfast, it also help me approach him a bit easier without him flinching away, food is a great motivator for Hige. Well, sometimes it is. Either way, he took the apple from me, even if a bit cautious, he even let me pet him a little early in the morning. I think he's still cautious of me because of all the tests I did to wake him up. Oops. . .

Magical!

Hige laid in his stall, nosing about a yellow ball with red specklings. It was a gift from someone. He forgot who but he always liked it. Though he was getting a bit bored, and Camille had wandered off for a few moments to look for something. Whatever that was. She was trying to adapt him to the forest. He'd gotten it pretty well, or so he thought.

He could climb trees or rather was getting to that point slowly but surely, which is somewhat rediculous for any horse he supposed, but large trees with low branches with just enough width to walk upon was actually easier than walking on the forest floor on most days. All in all Camille seemed to adapt the forest to him as well. She was starting to show him earth and forest magics that seem to come to her quite naturally. If he could access that magic himself ... Why it'd help him adapt all the easier!

He could surprise Camille with a new trick when she got home! With his mind madeup Hige got up abandoning the ball to roll into standstill in his stall and he trotted out into the forest. Sometimes faeries and forest nymphs would try to get him to forget his task and get him to play but he ignored them. He had something to do and it was very important. A satyr saluted him as he wandered past, and Hige barely noticed.

When Hige entered a clearing in the forest he felt at once at peace with himself and completely happy. This is the practicing grounds. He wondered if it could be his own secret place and if Camille knew of this place. It didn't matter. He needed to practice. Hige wandered to the center of the clearing and looked toward the ground before his hooves. Maybe if he could get something to grow from the earth? Perhaps he could do it he wasn't sure. Hige stared intently at the ground concentrating his will and desire to make a vine to grow from the brown dirt. Though suddenly a black force tried to supress it from happening. His bad luck? That was very much so. He felt the luck mark beginning to tingle as if fighting against force? In his mind's eye he saw the face of Camille smiling at him and encouraging him. Was the mark winning? He wasn't sure. Hige tried harder, his eyes squinting at the ground, something was happening up his back leg, it too was starting to tingle. Hige ignored it because something was happening at the ground, the dirt was breaking away and something fresh and green was sprouting. He concentrated a little harder and suddenly a green ivy vine burst forth out of the ground and began to grow out in bunches. Hige reared back, the black force had suddenly quelled and the luck mark was practically burning. His concentration broken the vine stopped growing, and his back leg stopped tingling. When he looked back at it there was a green vine marking on it. Hige reguarded it with pride. It meant that he had won this battle and that he had learned a new ability that will hopefully help him.

When he turned to go home, very tired but feeling very accomplished he saw a Unicorn. A pure white, and beautiful looking white female unicorn. The vision of her caused him to go a little light headed and giddy. The female unicorn gave a light airy giggle and galloped away teasingly. He started to go after her but then shook his head, no, someone was waiting for him at home. She needed him! He wouldn't dare leave Camille alone, no matter what. Hige then galloped home. Were unicorns lucky? He hoped so. It must be wonderful to be a unicorn...

When he got home Camille wasn't there yet. He laid in his stall with an exhausted sigh. A couple of one horned mice scampered off after eachother outside before him. Was that a sign? Was the forest trying to tell him something or maybe encouraging him? Could he too become a unicorn? Maybe if he beat back this bad luck that pestered him. His head laid down and his eyes closed. It wasn't long before Hige was dreaming of being a unicorn himself.
