When my family went to Church on Christmas Eve, my grandpa was there...He took my book away for 'safe-keeping' until Church was over (we weren't even sitting anywhere near each other).
I told him after Mass ended that the book he took away had actually been a distraction, and then showed him my "pocketbook" (*at the time, had taken a tiny book out of her pocket*). I also told him, truthfully, that I hadn't read it at all.
It was a new priest that had been holding the ceremony that day. I have to say, I liked him, and had been able to pay attention for almost the entire thing (started looking through the Church books towards the end).

When I went when I was little I got to draw on those little paper things. I have to go to church occasionally now, but I try not to since I tend to get mad.

It depends on the situation. If the book is the only thing keeping you from falling asleep (And on the three occasions I have been to church other than weddings and funerals it was), then go for it. If nothing else at least you're awake and are able to at least grasp the sermon to some extent because of that.

I don't go to church. My parents know that I don't find any meaning in it. To me, one shouldn't be forced to sit on hard wooden benches listening to someone read aloud in a monotonous tone to be connected with God. I think that I can do it on my own time. For the most part, my parents support me on that.
