Not many people get action figures, it is video games you have to worry about. I have a friend who likes the book only because he hasn't seen anything that the book is ripping off, ignorance is bliss.

*twitch, twitch, twitch* I just went and read the summary on Wikipedia... My God! It's utter gutter trash. And I only read the synapse! I pity the poor fools who actually read the book! O.o

It got published because his parents were publishers. Plus his sister was willing to do cover art.
I read, to see what the hell was going on with everyone raving on about it.
The VERY begining is okay, however near the end it read like one of the stories my dad made up when I was little to keep me entertained in the car. And those were based off baked bean cans and LOTR. Thank heavens the hero isn't called Violin. And the fly-y things weren't like camels.
I don't know why I read the second one. I don't know why I finished. People wondered why I saw the ending comng too...
Now Stormbreaker, I want to see that. Still need to get around to it. (And Ariborn and Artemis Fowl when they come out.)

Which proves even crappy stories can be published if you have the connections. stare Or you can go the self-publishing route though generally that isn't taken seriously. I'm not saying people can't self-publish... It's just. I dunno. It's hard to explain.

Well, my dad used to help people get themselves published so I don't see much reason why people don't do so.
If you can get the book out and into bookstores, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't.

Song_of_fire I read, to see what the hell was going on with everyone raving on about it. The VERY begining is okay Even the begining is kind of weird. So the elf lady or whatever is traveling with the egg, and when she gets attacked, she just transports it to some other place. If should could do that all along, why didn't she just transport it to wherever the hell she was taking it? That would've made a helluva lot more sense. FadingSin But thankfully I was spared the misfortune of actually reading it, thanks you our very own Mrs. Molko ^^ I was too busy reading her Yu Yu Hakusho anyway XD How many idiots in our class picked up that book last year and liked it? Oh jeez. I ranted about that so much last year you could probably recite the whole book XD And too many of them like it. Way too many. Even Mitch! And he was supposed to be moderately intelligent. stare

It's such a pity that even now, in the 21st century, horribly overrated writers can get away with publishing crap if they have the connections. It's inspiring. rolleyes

I'm writing something I wanted to have published, but it isn't gaia friendly and it is really stupid but I like it and everyone who has read it liked it, the fact that I had a woman glomp me over it really says a lot. My arm still hurts from getting glomped and this was before summer.

Today, it's all about the money, and how much you have. They'd take profits and crappy writing over quality writing and mediocre profits.

And they would love to swindle a person out of movie rights as well. Which means you need to get a lawyer or someone like my dad who can sort out that publishing contract so you have all the rights to any movies/merchandise/further properties as a result of your writing.

Without a doubt, because we all know they're in it for the money. Sure, there are very few companies, who actually love what they're doing and don't place an emphasis on making profits. Unfortunately, they produce short film or something on a small scale. *sigh*

They don't know any better. I blame the brain washing the media has done and the government for the lack of education standards.
