Rachel watched him a moment in his search for peanuts, before turning her gaze back to the glass in her hand. Making sure he was occupied, she raised the glass close to her mouth and stuck her tounge out slightly so she could get a slight taste of the stuff, without having to actually take a mouthful of it. Deciding it wasn't too bad, she took a decent sized gulp, blinking and smacking her lips slightly at the aftertaste that was just a little strange.

When he asked her the question, she set the glass down and thought about it for a moment before replying. "Um...somewhere around the span of three weeks I think?" Rachel said, shrugging and trying to decide how to best tell him about how she'd come to be here. She finally decided on a truthful, but not very informative response.

"It was my parents they suckered. I fought with them about having to come here..." she said as he set the nuts down on the counter. She eyed them reproachfully, before shaking her head.

"No...thank you."

"Three weeks?" Seth frowned. "That's not that long at all. I've been here about nine or ten weeks now, I think. At least that's what my laptop calander tells me. It still seems strange - to think that only ten weeks ago, I was an average boring guy. But you're still normal," He glanced at her. "You should get off while you can. Before, well... you know. You sure you're fine with staying here? I mean, it is permanent you know."

He fumbled through the bowl of mixed nuts, picking out a macadamia nut from the pile. He glanced around only for a moment to look for a nut cracker, or some other device to bash it open with, but ended up shrugging and popping it in his mouth, crushing the shell open in his powerful jaws. He pried the snowy white nut out of the shell and chewed on it, flicking the casing over his shoulder.

"That sucks that your parents made you come here, though. You must be younger than I guessed." He gave her a curious glance. "How old are you anyway?"

Rachel raised an eyebrow at his comment about getting off the island and regarded him a moment before speaking bitterly. "No, I'm not fine with staying here. I just don't want to get myself on the bad side of the people in charge here, for something that might not work. I figure they've already played God in my life so far...what's to keep them from continuing to do that, beyond what I already know is going to happen?"

She frowned and looked away, crossing her arms, before continuing. "Besides, I've been told that the first change tends to happen only a few weeks after someone gets here. I figure I haven't got much longer to wait before I'm no longer normal."

Rachel sighed and stared at the remaining liquid in her glass a long moment. Impulsively, she grabbed it and poured the rest of it into her mouth in a swift, somewhat defiant action. She coughed as she swallowed, setting the glass down and controlled herself after a moment. Finally she turned back to Seth, her eyes looking at him challengingly, almost daring him to comment on her actions.

"I'm 16," she finally said, her voice even. She didn't know why she was getting upset with this man. He hadn't really done anything that Rachel should have considered offencive. It couldn't be the alcohol yet could it? No, Rachel thought, I haven't had that much and it really hasn't had time to take effect... After a moment of silent pondering, Rachel attributed it to the emotional and psychological strain over the past few days and just needing to vent somewhere.

Seth raised an eyebrow and seemed a little edgy as he noticed Rachel becoming annoyed with him. Why he couldn't work it out exactly, but he guessed it was more or less over his comments regarding escaping.

"You're right about that - the lab people wouldn't be very happy if somebody tries to escape and caught them in the act. But if somebody has a good enough escape plan, it won't fail." He shrugged, grabbing the bottle of vodka to pour another glass, this next one nothing but straight vodka. "And that's where the careful planning and thought lie."

"Ah, 16, good enough." Seth nodded, grinning slightly. "I did some underage drinking myself, so to care about that would make me a hypocrite." He raised the bottle slightly, turning his attention to it. "Want some more, then?"

"What makes it good enough, though? Is there something to measure it against?" Rachel shrugged, blinking as she started to feel lightheaded. Granted, that feeling wasn't one that she was unfamiliar with, it was just unexpected. It's not like she had been running around or stood up too fast or something. She couldn't believe that it was the alcohol, as she had seen her older brothers consume several such drinks and be just fine. With Rachel's skewed perception of herself, however, she didn't take into account the fact that it might affect her more quickly because of how skinny she was. Not to mention she hadn't had anything to eat recently, and had downed the drink in the space of fewer than 15 minutes.

When he asked if she wanted more, Rachel shrugged again and held her glass out. It couldn't hurt could it? After all, she had wanted to not think, and the only way to do that was to get suffiecently drunk. "Why not?"

Seth thought for a moment and shuffled about on his bar stool, pouring Rachel's glass 3/4 of the way up with straight vodka before he recapped the bottle and set it back down on the counter.

"What makes the plan good enough? Hmm." He picked up his glass and took a large swig, swallowing it immediately to ensure that he wouldn't have to tolerate the acrid biting flavour for very long this time around. He coughed slightly as it burned the back of his throat, but he was more or less fine afterwards. "Well, there's nothing to measure it against but that doesn't matter in this case. It either works, or it doesn't. It's either going to be a really good plan, or a spectacular failure."

He lowered his head slightly, the effects of the alcohol beginning to be felt. The edge of his snout was lightly flushed red.

"But yeah," He continued, seeming to be rambling now. "A great plan will mean we get out of here in one piece, success. A crap one with too many flaws is a failure. It's just a matter of working out something that's not going to be discovered..."

Rachel opened her eyes wide as she watched him pour the straight liquor in the glass. It seemed like a lot to her, but as her judgement was already becoming impaired, she mentally shrugged it off, deciding that the older man, who was obviously used to drinking wouldn't give her something if it wasn't ok. She pulled the glass towards her as she listed to him speak.

"But...the cameras?" she said after a moment, and then took a medium sized gulp from the glass. She coughed again, finding the taste of the straight liquor a bit more difficult to deal with

"The cameras can go jump..." He sounded mildly frustrated as he made the statement.

That feeling did not last long however. He put his head down on the bar and closed his eyes, a broad grin snaking its way across his flushed face, very much feeling the effects of the alcohol now.

"Besides... the bastards can't see s**t if ya dig underground, you know. And digging is my forté now, the stupid animal... I've got the bloody claws to prove it."

He raised a paw-hand for emphasis. "See. Yeah, bloody oath they can't get you when you're underground. I reckon with all the time I have to waste, I'd be able to dig a whole series of tunnels under this hell hole... fat chance it'd do much good though. Nah, nah.. need a good idea."

Rachel blinked, it taking a moment for her to process the man's words. She was feeling spacey, but she figured she'd just zoned out or something. Turning to look at him, she squinted slightly to get him in proper focus, wondering why her eyes weren't working quite right. She took another, less generous sip from the glass before commenting.

"Well don't ask me...I suck at stuff like that... All I'm good for is gymnastics..." Rachel said, finding a little difficult to form her words for some reason.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 27, 2006 10:14 pm

"Gymnastics?" Seth raised his head and chuckled loudly, his jaw opening wider than what looked humanly possible as he did so. "Wow, nice one. I wish I could do that, but I'm a fat lazy b*****d..."

"Isn't that the thing with the olympics an' stuff, though? You should... mmm." He put a hand on his head to stop the room from moving. "Grab a pole and pole-vault over the 40 foot high bloody fence at Feral Labs. Then javelin it up their arse..." He grinned sleepily and put his chin down on the counter again, closing his eyes once more. The counter felt so nice and cool. He could fall asleep there if he wanted to.

"That'd be... really funny if you did that. The islanders'd give ya a gold medal too."

Rachel shook her head to say no, but regreted it instantly, having to lay her hands flat on the bartop to steady herself as her balance became thrown off entirely. "Woah...got dizzy for a sec...weird," she said, still finding her words difficult.

She sat silent for a moment until the dizziness passed, before reaching for her glass and taking another gulp, leaving a little less than half of what Seth had poured in there. "No...pole vaulting...in...'nastics," was her poorly formed response, hardly noticing that she had cut off the first part of a word in her sentence.
PostPosted: Mon Nov 27, 2006 11:03 pm

"No pole-vaulting in gynmastics?" Seth sounded a little disapointed. "Bugger... what's the use of that, then?"

He glanced across to Rachel and raised an eyebrow. "Er... are you going to be OK there, miss..?" There was a hint of concern in his voice. Though he wasn't completely off his face and still able to think logically, his perception was off-normal and his head made him feel like he was on a boat in the middle of the ocean. Still, this did not stop him from rising to his feet, stumbling towards the younger female's bar stool.

"I don't even know your name..." He frowned, reaching out for her glass. Though rather than picking it up, he batted at it with the back of his paw, pushing it off the counter altogether, causing it to smash in the area on the other side of the counter. "No more for you."

Rachel jumped in surprise and yelped in protest, as he suddenly rushed towards her, knocking her glass of the counter, causing it to break on the floor, with a loud crash. She stumbled backwards trying to get away, suddenly afraid. The intoxicated girl only made it a few steps, before falling over though, partially because her balance was completely off, and partially because she wasn't watching where she was going. She lay there, just watching him, not sure what to do

Seth raised his eyebrows as Rachel fell back off her bar stool. He moved over her and offered a paw of help out to her incase she wanted it. It did not occur to him that she had been startled and wanted to get away from him.

"Yeah, you definitely had too much...." He sighed. "Ah, want to go back to your duplex? What number are you in?"

"Why'd...ya...do...that?" she asked, blinking and raised a hand to her head to try and keep the room from spinning. She tried to keep an eye on him though, in case he pulled any other sudden moves.

"76...maybe," she said, not entirely sure at the moment. "But I dun...wanna... get up..."
