The small female had, in fact, gone. Waking up, her anxiety over sleeping in the male's den had come rushing back, now untempered by sleep. She had slipped out early, taking care to be silent, and had slnk off into the woods, with a backward glance at the old male.

Guilt tripped her up, though. It was cold, he had allowed her his place out of the wind and slept outside himself. She may not trust males so much but she understood obligations. All too well.

An hour or so later she returned, the light only now coming over the horizon, a watery winter sun which shed little light. In her mouth was an unlucky young hare. She was not the best of hunters but the hare was young and inexperienced and, trying to get out of the jaws of a fox had run right into hers. She laid the rabbit down at the side of her benefactor and slunk off again, wondering where to head to now.

Khal cocked his head to the side as he looked into the empty den. He sighed. He had wnated to try and speak with that female again. He didn't even know her name. He pushed the thought aside and was about to wander off to find some breakfast when he saw her brght orange coat once again. He smiled and his tail began wagging back and forth, especially when he realized she brought him something to eat.

But as she tutrned once again to leave his tail fell down limp again and he steppped forward towards her. "Where are you going to go?" He asked, sitting down and hoping she'd stay and chat. "No offense, but it doesn't seem like you have any particular destination. Normally when you travel you have a plan of some kind. Or a travelling companion." He tilted his head to the side, a thing he did quite often.

She looked over her shoulder at him as he spoke to her, wondering if he felt she owed him more for his hospitality? Perhaps he really just wanted to talk? He seemed alone here too and she knew that didn't feel nice, really.

She stopped, but didn't turn to face him as she spoke. "I don't know where I'm going, I have no plan and noone to travel with. I didn't even mean to travel I just began and didn't stop." she spoke softly but clearly, not really with much emotion but with a slightly detatched weariness. She had thought over this on her long run yesterday, wondered, really, why she had done it. It didn't matter now, though, she would not go back if she could help it.

A quick glance over her shoulder and she spoke again. "You don't have a companion yourself" she noted.

Khal was glad that she was speaking to him and he smiled kindly once more. "Well, winter is on it's way and you really shouldn't travel alone. You shouldn't travel at all during the winter, in my opinion. Last winter I left my old pack and came here, and the journy was not a pleasant one." He made a shrugging motion, "But to each their own, I s'pose."

He chuckled softly at the companion comment. "Oh, no. Most wolves I meet already have a pack or at the least, a companion. So I decided to live alone." His eyes became a bit glazed over and he looked away from her. "And news sometimes travels faster than you think. Some wolves don't want to be around me." He looked back over to her and smiled weakly. He hoped with all his heart that this female had not heard of him. He knew he pack spread the story of how they thought he killed a pup, and he knew some wolves here already had heard that story. But since she was alone, he figured it was alright to reveal his name. "I'm Khaliki."

Maia didn't know how hard it would be to travel in winter, she hadn't really thought about it. In her youthful mind she imagined she could survive just fine on her own but it was hard for her to concieve of what winter would bring - she'd never been through one before.

"I see.." she said after his explanation. She wondered briefly why others didn't want to live around him. It didn't give her confidence that he was not an evil male. If she had known about his past, or heard the rumours she would not, most likely, even be talking to him now.

"Khaliki.." she said, running the new name over her tongue. It was a nice name, she decided, and one she certainly had not heard of before. "I'm Ma.." she began to reciprocate, unconsciously. "May" she finished. If her mother did track her she didn't want to give her any extra leads.

A smile of relief played on the big wolfs maw and he nodded his head to her kindly. "May. That's a very pretty name. It's nice to meet you." He continued to smile, a thoughtful look on his face. "Well, May, you are welcome to stay here as long as you'd like. Maybe until you figure out where you're going to go, hmm?" He aske,d his ehad tilting to the opposite side as he did.

Her barriers were breaking down just a little. It would be foolhardy to sit and contest males were completely evil when being faced with such outright kindness. It was not far from the back of her mind that it could all be an act but if it was it was a really warped, drawn out act.

"Thank you..." she said, a twinge of guilt tickling her mind at the small lie. She had often told her mother small lies to get out of trouble but she'd always been caught. It felt... odd to be believed.

"I don't know if I'm as far away from my past yet as I'd like to be..." she said, staring out as far as she could see. Her eyes kept darting back to him, watching him. Just in case. She couldn't quite break her habit of distrust yet.

Khal watched her with concern for a few moments, letting her have her peace. "I understand." He said, his words full of compasion and experience. "I know what it's like." He smiled weakly. "I can at least accompany you for a little while, if you'd like?" He offered. He didn't know why he was going out of his way to help her. He had a perfectly nice den here, with plenty little rabbits around. He then remembered the rabbit in front of him and looked down at it as his stomach growled. He took a bite out of it and then nudged it towards her with a smile. "I've been meaning to explore a bit further anyway."

The male really did seem to wish to stick around her and she wasn't sure why. It seemed odd to her not only because he was a male but that someone else wanted to actually be around her. She'd not really been around many other wolves in her short life. Her mother only, really. A few others at a distance.

She took a deep breath. She wasn't sure what to say to him. His kindness seemed genuine but it made her uncomfortable. "I don't know... I .. well.. you're a ..." she stopped. Looking down, behind, down. Ignoring the rabbit offered her she shook her head. "I don't know you." she said simply, truthfully, getting up once again as if to leave.

Khal furrowed his brow and sighed. "I understand." He said with a small smile. He still had no idea why this female was making him feel this way. He usually tried to help others, it was in his nature, but to try this hard? He had his boundaries and he knew he was sticking his nose where it didn't belong. But he wanted very badly to help her. "Well, at least let me give you some advice." He said, looking at her back. "Don't go east. Travel west. There's small den there that I used to live in. If it's not already occupied you'll have a much easier time living through the nights." He smiled slightly, "Farewell. And take care of yourself."

Maia nodded and stepped off, silently thanking the wold wolf for his kind advice with her eyes. "G..Goodbye" was all she said to him. The tangerine female turned to face the direction she was headed in and set off at a fast pace, her mind in turmoil about the meeting - the male that had just helped her and the contradictions that presented to her beliefs.

Maia was alone again but moving as she headed in the westerly direction the male had reccomended she wondered if she'd bump into others like him or whether her mother's words would turn out to be true in most cases.

(( Thank you so much for the RP's, Twiddle. Khal is awesome! Maia will need to come back and see him again once she's less skittish if you'd be up for that X3 ))

((Most definitely! <333 *pets Maia* 83))

Khaliki watched as the female left his life once more. He glanced down at the rabbit befoere him and began to eat it slowly. He still didn't know what to make of the wandering femme, but he found himself hoping dearly that he'd see her again.
