X-Posted in Mael & Wren's Diary:

RP Log; October 18th, 2004
Halo pushed open the front door with her back. She had a monochrome boy on one him and a monochrome bear on her shoulder. Otium had been nice enough to hold onto his excerpt, clutching it tightly in one hand, and had somehow managed to get some money from Halo's pocket.. a gold coin gripped in his other hand. He waved it every now and then and gummed it under the massive brim of his top hat. "Err.. I'm home!" The woman called out through the house and rescued the top hat from falling off of her new child's head with her free hand.

"Kitchen!" Was the reply. Wren was busy cooking up something for dinner -- being productive since he had no idea what to write next. It was a dry spell and, well, when he couldn't write he found other ways to occupy his time, particularly when Halo wasn't around to keep him company. He was chopping up some vegetables for some stir fry.

Mael was sitting on the counter, his back against the wall and nowhere near the edge, and intently paying attention to what his father was doing. The Forgotten's daemon was busy poking around the top of the counter, investigating the surroundings at her leisure since her other half wasn't able to explore. His father wouldn't let him.

"Kay.." She replied. Immaculate lifted her head at Wren's voice and sniffed the air. She made a tiny yip noise at Otium (since Halo had decided to call him that). The little boy blinked at his daemon and the bear scrambled down Halo's arm and then leg, nails catching in the fabric of her clothing. She tried to get him, and then had to rescue the hat again. Immaculate decided to take off in the direction of the kitchen, nails making a skittering noise on the wood floor. She slid a bit entering the room and the monochrome daemon slid into a furry lump against Wren's leg.

"... what the?" Wren had turned towards the entrance kitchen only to see a white blur come running in and then slide into his leg. "Er, hello there." Setting down the knife he had been using to cut up vegetables and leaned down to look at the little bear. "A new pet, dear heart?" It wasn't like they didn't have the space, but it was a surprise. He studied the little bear. She seemed ... well ... entirely monochrome. Not a trace of color in her.

Mael had scooted a little closer to the edge, trying to peer down at what had caught his father's attention. Suffocation was there, scenting the air herself, and hissing at Mael -- telling him to not move anymore. It wasn't a good idea. Instead, Mael looked towards the doorway. He had heard his mother.

"Incoming.. if she didn't get there already.." She sighed and finally got to the kitchen door. Otium looked at the people in the room under the overly large hat of his. He waved his arms a bit, gold coin and excerpt still gripped tightly. "And she has apparently.." Halo sighed a bit and gave her husband a smile, "Surprise?" The gold contrasted strongly with Otium's lack of color.

Wren did a double take. Monochrome bear and monochrome child with a coin and a piece of paper in hand. "Er, surprise is right." He came to his feet, smoothing out his shirt. He turned to scoop up Mael from the counter as he was continuing to move closer to the edge. Suffocation managed to slither her way up Wren's arm as well. "So, where did he come from?" Finally, he moved over to Halo, careful of the little bear, and looked at the cute-ness that was the baby in his wife's arms.

Otium just looked at Wren in silence, with no emotion on his face. He blinked and then looked at Mael, the opposite of him on the color spectrum. He waved his coin a little and then bit it again with his lack of teeth. "That.. library." Halo scratched her head a bit. Immaculate found her way back up the woman's leg and arm to her shoulder again. It was a good thing bears could climb. "I heard weird music and ended up there.. found a black book.. then that Pippin character. And then Otium here." Otium looked at her with his dark eyes and chewed the coin again.

"You --" Lips moved for a second, but Wren made no sound. "You found the Library," he finally managed to get out, "... weird music though?" It had been a light that lead him and the others down there, but then again it was probably different with everyone. He nodded to himself in agreement. "So you met Pippin then, and ... Otium came to be." Chuckling faintly, Wren moved a hand to waggle his fingers at Otium in greeting. "Well, Mael, I think you've a brother now."

Shifting his arms, Wren moved so Mael could get a better look at Otium. It was what he was trying to do anyway. He blinked red eyes at the other Forgotten, trying to make sense of this newcomer before he finally just smiled and waved a hand at him. Suffocation just hissed quietly, scenting the air.

Otium's dark grey eyes looked at Mael as he nibbled his coin. He smiled a tiny calm smile and that was it. "He's.. very calm and quiet. Hasn't made much of a noise at all." To that, Immaculate yipped a bit. "But she has.." Halo laughed a bit. "Here's his excerpt.." She pried the piece of paper form the baby's fingers and handed it to her lover.

Mael looked content with that small response, happily giggling and still waving his hand at little at Otium. "Mm, he seems the sort. A bit monochrome, isn't he? Both of them really." Trying to accommodate the squirming child in his arm, Wren took the excerpt offered. He had to read it a couple times before he finally took it in what was written on the paper. "... interesting."

"Mm indeed. Takes a while to sink in... The music sounded like an old black and white movie.. he fits with it.." Otium pulled at the brim of his hat with his now free hand. He just adjusted it so he could see better and then played his with black tie. Halo looked down at him and gave him a smile, adjusting his hat so it would stay on his head better. "You don't notice being black and white do you Otium..?" Otium looked up at her through the very top of his eyes and smiled a little again before yawwwwwning and snuggling sort of close against Halo, now recognized as MOMMY.

Mommy -- now that was cute. "Yeah. Sort of forgettable, but then it fits with the excerpt. The music thing is intriguing as well." Wren tilted his head to one side, looking at Otium in his mother's arms. He was rather adorable. "It's probably natural to him, just like how Mael is being normal to him." Said baby glanced up at his dad at the mention of his name. Mael stopped waving his hand and tugged on the shirt his father was wearing faintly.

"I think Otium is tired already.. I guess we need to set up a new crib." Otium blinked up to his name again. Immaculate was watching Suffocation. She climbed down Halo's arm and crawled over Otium a bit. He stretched out to hug his daemon faintly like a teddy bear.

"Same room, until they're older then, hm?" Wren covered Mael's hand on his shirt with his own, toying with it a bit. "We can put him to bed and then I can finish making dinner -- though Mael's not quite as ready for sleep yet."

In fact, Mael just grinned again, giggling softly. He turned his attention back to Otium slowly.

Otium looked back at Mael, tugging his own tie and waving his coin. "I don't know how he got my money..." Halo looked down at her new son. "These two will be trouble.. won't they?"

"... I think that daily with Mael and add in another child?" Wren laughed, giving Halo a wide amused smile. "Most likely." Mael seemed to focus on that little coin in Otium's hand. It was shiny, interesting, and seemed rather attached to Otium. Hm.

Otium looked back at Mael and narrowed his eyes a bit when he saw the serpentine forgotten focused on his coin. He gripped it tighter. "Lovely.. just what we need."

Mael seemed utterly unbothered and shifted his attention away from the coin. He just smiled at Otium and waved his hand a little.

"We'll make it, I'm sure. It's not like we don't have minions to help us." Wren smirked faintly and shook his head.

"..If you imply Tom and Carmine as babysitters, you are crazy.." She chuckled and shifted to accommodate Otium again. The little boy was still looking at Mael and relaxed when the other just smiled and waved his hand. He gave his tiny smile and yawned again, snuggling into Halo and the fuzzy lump that was Immaculate.

"I thought we all ready came to the conclusion that I wasn't sane." Wren let go of Mael's hand, moving to brush his thumb across the emblem on the baby's forehead. It distracted him briefly from paying attention to Otium and Immaculate. It didn't distract Suffocation, her attention was still on the others. Her tongue would flicker out every now and then.

"Besides," Wren shifted and smiled still, "I doubt we could rope them into doing something like that. The only reason they're helping with Halloween is because they're plotting something." He shook his head, tilting his head to the side.

On cue Nicolena came prancing through the kitchen. She looked up at everyone with an air of superiority and then turned and pranced out. The Siamese was such a queen. "I know they are.." She chuckled. "And now I have another to dress on Halloween.." She smiled down at Otium again. He blinked up at his mom tiredly and ran his tiny fingers through Immaculate's fur. The bear licked Halo's nose a little.

Wren just arched an eyebrow at Nicolena's entrance. Well, if she was in this area of the home, then obviously Tom and Carmine weren't paying enough attention to her or were busy. "We do, we do. It's going to be fun as is," he chuckled, grinning widely at the cuteness that was Halo getting her nosed licked and Otium.

Mael let out something that sounded like a small huff, before snuggling himself against his father and sliding his tail around the man's arm. His fingers slid across Suffocation's scales, petting her. As interesting as the new baby was, it couldn't hold his attention forever.

Halo wriggled her nose and chuckled. "Ok.. do we have an extra crib around..?"

"No, don't think so." Wren frowned slightly, looking first at Otium and then at Mael. "We can put him in Mael's crib for a bit and go pick up one, maybe." Hopefully Mael wouldn't mind, but it wasn't like they were putting them in the same crib.

"I'll have to borrow a few pieces of clothing too until I can go shopping for some.." Halo looked at Mael, "You don't mind.. do you Mael?"

Mael turned his head towards Halo, blinking his eyes at her. He didn't understand what was being asked but he looked towards Otium and smiled, waving his hand at both him and Halo.

"... I'd take that as a yes, before he changes his mind, love." Wren bounced the giggling baby in his arms slightly.

Otium's gnawing on the gold had slowed and he was now just snuggled against Halo and Immaculate's white fur. He slept silently and was very very still. His hat had tilted forward over his eyes. Halo looked down at her new baby boy and smiled. "Well then that's decided.. I think I'll take him up.."

"All right, I'll put up the things for dinner. We can pick something up while we're out. We might have to attempt some roping, so someone stays to look after Otium -- unless one of us does." Wren changed his grip on Mael so that he was holding him with one arm and lightly touched Otium on the cheek before running his fingers along Immaculate's fur. "Go ahead and take him up, I'll be down here with the other heathen of ours." Wren smirked.

"Yes dear.." She chuckled and leaned down a bit to kiss her husband lightly. Sleeping Otium was momentarily shifted close to Mael. Immaculate licked his nose, the daemon still awake. When Halo leaned back she turned and headed for the upstairs. "Be right down."

"All right," Wren murmured in reply, returning the light kiss. Mael tried to latch onto Otium but Halo moved away before he could do anything but brush his hand against him. Watching Halo move up the stairs, Wren set Mael down in his high chair to put things up and get ready to go out shopping.

Dear Diary-thing:

We went to the library again and met Naita and Eydis. It seems all the babies are rather odd.. Eydis is rather.......... blue. Apparently she's always cold as well. Her daemon seems to be a bit of a spaz.

Otium seemed to get along well with her in the small group. She had a locket that he found interesting but he didn't take it. He stared at it a very long time. There's something calculating about the boy.

Otium gave Eydis a coin. Just like he'd given his brother. I have no freaking idea where he's getting them from. He just reaches up into his hat and pulls them out. He's also yet to make noise except when very upset or extremely pleased.

I'm starting to get worried.. he stares off into space alot. Not the normal baby sort of staring but the intent 'I see somehting interesting' stare. But there's never anything there... And he is still rather ignored when I go out in public. It's getting better in the places we frequent though.

Enough for now. He's heading for Gallium. Baby + Shiny Mendel = BAD

RP Log; November 10th, 2004
Halo sat in the library with Otium and Mael while her husband was out with Freyr. He had responsibilities to keep since Freyr was his charge and Halo wasn't sure if she was ready to go searching for where her husband went and end up with ANOTHER child in the house (and god forbid another BOY). Otium sat on the floor, his hat upside down in front of him. He'd pulled it off himself and was looking inside the hole and sticking his hands in, pulling out coins every now and again before dropping them back in. His black hair was very straight and neat and he got very upset if you messed it up.

The boys seemed to be fine there by themselves so Halo was sitting on the couch in a tank top and a loose pair of low hanging pants, barefoot, surfing around on the internet and most likely ordering inane things off of eBay.

Carmine had lagged behind in actually coming to talk to Halo about Otium. Mostly because of the fact that both Tom and him had to settle something about themselves and babies, but no real conclusion had been made from that. Then again, they also had their 'shop' to tend after now. After all, even if they were retired, they had to do something to pass the time. The doctor was standing in the doorway of the library, leaning against the frame with his arms crossed against his chest. He was watching the boys play on the carpet, Mael seemingly enraptured by his brother being able to pull coins out of nowhere.

His gaze focused on Otium briefly, a small smile on his lips, before he looked up at Halo. Everyone in the room seemed rather relaxed except for her on some level. Probably because Wren was out with that other child that he didn't want him or Tom to know about. Finally moving into the room, he paused briefly to crouch down next to the boys and waggle his fingers in greeting.

Halo turned to look at Carmine over the top of her glasses. "Hello stranger.." She smirked a bit and went back to looking at the action figure on eBay. It was strange to see him, for her, but that was for her own reasons. "What brings you down to the nether regions?"

Otium looked up at Carmine and smiled his silent smile and waved a coin at him, showing him how he could drop it into the hat. POOF.

"... nether regions?" Carmine's lips quirked into a smirk. "Wouldn't call this place that, but hello to you too." Chuckling, the man watched Otium's little trick. Well, that was interesting. He looked into the hat, but there was no coin. Curious. Mael next to his brother was just giggling happily. He tapped his finger against the hat. "Pretty good trick you've got, Otium." He was reminded he needed to get something for the baby, the coin he was given resting in his pocket.

"Actually," he said, standing up, "I came down to have a word with you, about your baby."

"I'M PREGNANT?" She turned her head to the doctor. He did periodic health exams on them but HOW WOULD.. oh.

"OH. Otium.." She smirked sheepishly. "What about him?"

The little boy looked over at his mom and smiled and waved another coin at her. She looked back over at him and flashed the little boy a grin. He dropped it into his hat and then looked in after it.

Halo was treated to seeing Carmine actually shake his head and rub his forehead with a hand. "Sometimes you worry me, Halo." He sighed, straightening up. "But, yes, I meant Otium." He moved past the boys, carefully stepping over Suffocation and Mael's tail which was flicking about.

"Well, he seems to have an additional talent besides his gold trick." There was a smile on the doctor's face, but his expression was serious.

It was good she wasn't pregnant.. because she did not need another kid running around. Especially one that would be her and wren's demonic spawn. She turned away from the computer and looked over at him, She pulled her legs up under her and watched his face. "You can sit down you know.. "

If anyone could decipher Tom and Carmine's expressions besides the men themselves, it was Wren and Halo. She knew something was up. "Nothing serious?" He was a doctor and she hoped to god Otium didn't have some sort of health issue.

Demonic spawn? Would've brought up an interesting conversation with Carmine if Halo had said that out loud. He shook his head, smiling faintly still. "Mm, but you were taking up the entire space." Besides, he hadn't felt like just making her move over. He did, of course, take a seat in the space she had freed up on the couch, leaning back against it and focusing on the boys.

"Depends on your definition of serious, my dear." Carmine tilted his head to look at her. "Considering he's a special baby in the first place, I doubt it will have any effect over his health, but ..." He shook his head. "To get to the point, your boy and myself have something in common."

"You like to kill people?" She grinned and tilted her head. Not that Otium had shown any signs of it. "Or devilishly handsome?" She was teasing him of course. Not that he wasn't.. It was a good thing she found herself incapable of being swayed but the overly attractive Italians who shared a house with them. Not to mention them both being much older.

Carmine snickered. "He's too young to kill people and I'd sooner expect that from Mael, considering Tom was telling him all about blades." He shook his head at the teasing, smiling a bit more. "Though I'm sure young Otium will be something along the lines of devilishly handsome." Italian men were hard to resist, but neither Tom or Carmine practiced that charm they both seemed to have around the house -- unless necessary.

"What I meant, is that your son seems to have one of my lesser known abilities." Blue eyes once again rested on Otium. "He can see shades, Halo."

Otium looked over again, feeling the man's eyes on him. He didn't know what was going on so he went back to coin playing. He handed one to his brother to play with too.

Halo frowned a bit, unsure what to think of the news. "You're sure? I mean of course you'd know.. before anyone else.." She looked over at her little boy. "I assume... he reacted to one in your presence then?"
Mael took the coin, the original one that had been given to him elsewhere at the moment. He gummed the coin and then just bounced it in his hand, tail flicking about happily.

"Mm, when you and Wren went out that evening. While Tom and myself were watching them, one appeared and Otium took notice of it -- as well as Immaculate. She was agitated by it, actually, but ..." Carmine turned his attention back to Halo, giving her a half-smile. "The reaction and the fact both were focused on the shade seem to prove that he could see it." To be certain, he could attempt to arrange for another shade to come across Otium's path, but Carmine loathed to do such to a baby. Not all ghosts were pleasant.

She nodded. "I believe you.." Halo glanced down at the boys who seemed totally content to just sit and play with one another. They never really fought unless Mael got a little too rambunctious and adventurous for Otium's tastes.. or if Mael took something to look at and Otium didn't approve.

"What should I do?" Carmine had the gifts. She didn't want Otium's similar ability to become abused or end up being too much for him.

Carmine was all too familiar with abilities being abused and being too much to handle at times. "Right now? There's nothing you really can do. He's still a baby. Immaculate seems to be attempting to protect him from shades, which is good." He leaned forward, elbows resting on his knees. To him, this was an all too serious subject. "I wouldn't worry too much, most ghosts are harmless and probably won't do anything. As he gets older, it'll probably be more of a concern." He pressed his fingers together, looking past them and towards Otium.

Mael, at the moment, seemed quite happy to just play with the coin and occasionally giggle. Smiling widely at his brother. There would be no adventures today. Maybe tomorrow.

Halo watched Carmine's face again before leaning back against the couch and watching the boy's. Otium smiled at his brother and snatched for that waving tail of his.

"As he gets older .. I'll probably come knocking on your door for advice about him then.." She shook her head. "Or he will."

Mael's tail swished right out of Otium's grasp before he could grab it. The serpentine baby peering at his brother and gnawing on his coin.

Carmine chuckled, turning to look at Halo. "Well, I suppose I can offer you my advice then. The same goes for him, whenever he's old enough to ask for it."

"You better offer me your advice.. You and Tom talk so damn much.. it would be good to get something useful out of you." She teased again and grinned, prodding him in the rib before leaning back against the arm of the couch and picking up her laptop again.

Carmine just smirked, leaning away from the prodding, before poking her foot. "But we have so much fun talking over your head and keeping you in the dark." He chuckled, palms pressing against the couch so he could move to stand up. "But in this case, I'll make an exception."

~Inhale~

The baby breathed softly in his sleep, fingers curling lightly in the white blanket he clutched close.

~Exhale~

His tiny lids fluttered from the baby dreams he had, of whatever it is that babies dream about. The boy was young, but not small enough to be fragile. He was a hardy little thing who rolled onto his back and tugged on the tiny necktie he wore, even in sleep.

~Inhale~

She watched his face, her eyes glazed over as she stared placidly. She was only inches from his lips, breathing washing over her body. She noticed how different he looked when his hat was hanging on the edge of the crib and not covering his thick black hair.

~Exhale~

The breathing made her tingle pleasantly and she absorbed it, the movement of the air and the slight moisture. Her tiny wings stretched out behind her and shivered delightfully every time the baby breathed.

~Inhale~

The cool inhalation made her straighten a bit more, hands settling on her knees. She’d found, as she’d begun to come here at night, that this position was comfortable. Her bonded had called it the ‘lotus’ but to her it just was comfort and serenity.

~Exhale~

When the breath washed back over her, she focused on herself and how it made her feel. It made her feel like she could do something. Like there was more to this than just sitting and absorbing the feeling of life. She didn’t know what it could be though.

~Inhale~

She closed her eyes again and concentrated, she focused on herself and how she felt and nothing else in the world. Everything was blocked out except the flowing air and the rhythm of the little boy’s breaths and the faint thump of his heart that was so close to her.

~Exhale~

The little boy stirred and cracked his grey eyes to stare at the small faerie in front of his mouth. She wasn’t moving and he didn’t know what that meant. He sometimes found her like this and it confused him. His companion, the bear-like cat curled at the bottom of his crib, did not stir from her own sleep because he’d yet to make it a point to awaken his guardian.

~Inhale~

She sensed something different in the rhythm of his breath and wondered if she’d have noticed something like that before now. The faerie cracked her eyes and glanced up at the large grey orbs staring at her.

~EXHALE~

The little boy made his lips into an ‘O’ shape and blew at the little faerie, watching her hair and wings ruffle with the stronger breeze. He followed by bursting into a silent and toothless smile.

~Inhale~

The faerie smirked at the little boy and finally stood up. Her wings flapped to bring her into a hover in front of his face. “Ottie, Ottie. Silly Silly. Go to sleep, small one, not that you are small compared to me but in terms of size with your parents you are…”

The little boy reached for the faerie with a clumsy chubby hand. But she dodged it easily.

“Tsktsktsk..” The child didn’t seemed to catch what she said, not that most people did. “Go to sleep little silly, little gold hoarder, the monochrome little dragon..” She chuckled and winked at the baby, hovering out of his grasp when he tried to reach for her again.

It was just no good when he was awake.

With a quiet knock on the door of Halo and Wren's house, a messenger left a bundle on the doorstep, idling off, a strand of golden hair toyed with idly.
Inside the bundle lay two objects, gifts for the infants adopted by the couple.

Next to Otium's portion of the package lay the following note:
Quote:
Dear Halo,

Though not a coin, while out shopping I saw this and thought of Otium.
Please accept this gift, and perhaps he can enjoy it once his wrists are a tad larger.

Yours,
Lady Naita Elouin Siri.

Otium recieved a fabulous bracelet from Eydis and Naita! He's too small to wear it now but he's been clinging to it since it arrived. I hope he'll wear it when he's older..

Alot has happened since then. I will have to chronicle it in a little while..

Right now I have a fussy baby who doesn't like teething..

Dear Diary.. thing--

Crazy times here. Bad times. Can I say I want to murder the Nora woman?

She's trying to have Suffocation put to sleep! Apparently her bird kicked the bucket and Mael and Suffocation happened to be in the vicinity when it happened. Her bird ATTACKED THEM.

I will kill her. I will.

Mael seems very withdrawn with Suffocation and I've not seen him extensively because he gets rather upset.

It worries me. I'm his mommy right?

Otium has been trying to make him feel better but he seems to be teething so he's fussy on his own. He's chewing on EVERYTHING.

I hope this matter with Mael is solved soon. I hope Otium's teeth pop through as well.. there is spit on everything -_-;;

Everything is mostly worked out with Mael I think.

Firstly, Nora's bloody bird was going to die anyway.

Secondly, Wren did research.

I told him to do research. I talked to Tom a bit and he gave wren a book on some of the information. I wanted to be more involved, as the mommy, you know, but after the 'incident' Mael's not wanted to have much to do with me. It's.... upsetting. Not that I would admit it. maybe it's a phase.. I hope so.

Anyway, Wren thinks it has to do with healing. We watched mael 'heal' a sick squirrel while we played in the snow. Rather surprising. You wouldn't think of a snake as a healer.

All the strife about Nora and the bird has seemed to clear up and Mael is back to his giggly self, except with me, and Otium is full on teething now. He's always got a little gold colored teething ring in his mouth because he doesn't like the other colors that came in the pack except for maybe the black one and the white one. I saw a little speck of pearly whites popping through his gums.

He's still a rather calm baby but it's bothering him, I think, that his brother isn't being so friendly with me. He seems to try and make it better but there is not much he can do just as a child.

I think I will talk to Wren and arrange some private time with just myself and Mael and he can spend more time with Otium. Or I can just babysit the two of them. I need to try and break down whatever walls Mael is holding up against me.

This morning you are surprised to find that along with your morning post is a dark looking paper bag with the top scrunched tightly over. Intrigued, you pick it up noticing a small note attached to the outside...

Quote:
Dear Halo and Otium,

I was finally clearing out my cupboards after the holidays and I came across these things! I meant to give them out at Hallowe'en, but... let's say my house isn't as tidy as most. Anyway. Moving swiftly on, seeing as this is a gift for Otium and Immaculate, I thought I would drop it past for you.

Hope you guys are well!

Baby Growth Quest ---

Little things at first start to happen in Otium's room. Things are out of place, toys look as if they were taken out, and other items have been destroyed. Both Immaculate and Otium start to seem touchier than usual after a while of these strange occurances.

As itt turns out, the room is being visited by a particularly strong ghost -- far too intent on getting a message across through the baby or simply determined with not leaving him alone. Over the course of at least a week in roleplay terms, have Halo find out the cause behind Otium's grumpy behaviour and then deal with the spectre that won't leave the baby be.
Wren rules for coming up with this idea, o0o.
