Aphismet blinked. Of course! Dr Kyou would have kept giving out essences and soul bottles. Aph wasn't so important as to have been the last... Aph, now out of Rivener's stinger's reach, seemed to relax the tinest bit, but kept his eyes on the Scorpion frei.
"Er, yes, Rivener is a Raevan... a young one. He's under a year old. He's uh... he's kinda dangerous, so you should make sure he comes nowhere near your food, he tends to poison people to get back at me."
Aph chuckled self-consciously. "I'm really sorry," he added.

"Ah, I see," Kumoru said with a small nod. So he would be getting a human-like sort of creature. If this one was young, though, and clearly not a baby... that was a very good thing. Hopefully it would be easy to teach a young Raevan to take care of itself. And his house, too.
The mage now had a good idea what he would be using for his soul, and it was definitely not poisonous.
Then Kumoru asked, "The poison isn't fatal, is it?" He was not so sure he should be giving his kids any pizza from this place....

"Um, well that is... well, so far he's only made people sick, but he, uh... he can make all kinds of poison. But don't worry, he's not gone anywhere near your pizza," Aph glanced over his shoulder at the wood oven. "Speaking of which, it should be just about ready, I'll go get it..."
Aph hurried over to the oven, busying himself at getting the pizza out and placed into a takeout box.
During this time, Rivener leaned onto his elbows, crossing his arms on his table. He was watching the necromancer with a sly grin. "So, what essence do you have? And what kind of soul are you using?" Riv knew he was made of night and scorpion, and Vyn was shadow and something else, a flower was it? That's why he felt a kinship to her. He wondered if this new, upcoming Raevan would be another he might like. Preferably a male, though.

The mage took another bite of pizza and made no hurry to chew and swallow it. Then he looked up at the Raevan and replied, "I haven't caught another soul yet, but the essence is an ice rose. There's a ghost I have chained to my house, though; I think I'll capture that in the bottle."
Idly, Kumoru thought about how it might take hours or days to absorb a soul into the bottle according to Doctor Kyou. It might be interesting to document exactly what the little owl ghost went through during that process. Would it still look like an owl once it was inside the bottle?

"Another soul?" Rivener repeated, tilting his head. He wondered if it was possible to make a Raevan with TWO souls... Bah, who cared. The important thing was that it was an ice flower. Kind of a mix of Vyn and Roux, two of his favorite Raevans. "I'd like to meet your Raevan when it comes. Will you allow it?"
Aphismet returned with the pizza in a box, placing it on the counter. "It's ready when you are, sir. Rivener, please don't harass the customers! What do you want him to allow?" Aph had only caught the last question.

"Yeah, the first soul... didn't work," Kumoru told the Frei, his voice trailing off at the end of the statement. He studied his pizza for a moment, then took another slice. The mage was two bites into it before he remembered that Rivener had asked another question.
"I guess I could bring my Raeven by here when he or she arrives, if he or she allows it," he said with a small shrug.
When the other pizza was ready, the necromancer stood up and shut the box on his personal-pan pizza again. He was a step away from the table when he realized he needed to grab his drink as well; once he had both, Kumoru stepped up to the counter to get the other box as well.
"Thank you very much."

"I'm really sorry about Rivener, I hope he didn't bother you too much," Aph said with a meek smile. The pizzamaker glanced at his charge, who was getting back to work in his physics book, a honeyed smile on the Frei's lips. This worried Aph more than a little.
"Um, it'll be fourteen ninety two for everything," Aph continued.

Kumoru glanced at Rivener, then back to Aph as he shrugged. Then he set the pizzas and drink down so he could take out his wallet and count out the cash.
Dumping the coins out into his hand, the mage thumbed through them for a moment to count, then put them back into his wallet and handed Aph fifteen, then an extra dollar.
"There you go, and keep the extra. The pizza I've had so far is great, and I'm sure my kids will enjoy the other one. Smells good." He smiled and bent to pick up the boxes again, and then his drink.

"Oh, um, thank you," Aph blushed at the comment, nodding his head and rubbing the back of his neck. "F-for the tip and the, uh, compliment. Enjoy, and please come again!"
Aph smiled, half in happiness at being complimented, half with pride at not having mucked anything up. Thankfully, before he would have to take anyone else's order, Sam opened the back door and walked in; his break was over, he would be able to regain control of the front counter, and Aph could concentrate on cooking and nothing else.
Rivener still watched the necromancer covertly. He was examining him closely, memorising what this man looked like so he could recognize him later on, when his Frei would be born. A mix of Vyn and Roux... Two of the least vocal Raevans in existance. Riv smiled. He seemed to generally prefer the less vocal ones. He wished the new one would be a quiet sort too.

Kumoru doubted he would be in danger of forgetting the Raevan's face. And besides, he could always return to this pizza parlor to find him and his guardian again.
Well, unless poisoning customers got to be a big problem.
... The necromancer hoped his own Raevan would not be so intent on giving him a hard time. But he supposed he could perhaps return here and ask Aph for advice.
His hands full with the drink and food boxes, Kumoru gave them both a small bow in parting, then turned to the door and used his hip to shove it open. The bell jingled once as the door opened, then again as it closed after the mage had gone.
