His head lowered, Keone stared at his paws as they shuffled in the leaves and earth of the jungle floor.
"But...it's a snake, it'll try to eat me...or our cub. And...you were almost killed by a snake once..."
His voice was pitiful, barely above a whisper. He wanted to go to the water, to show his son what a great fisher he was, not a coward who was terrified of snakes. But no matter how hard he tried to convince himself, his paws just wouldn't move forward.

"Maybe its already eaten today. "
The leopardess winced slightly when remembering the snake from the day they'd met. She looked down at her shoulder, then her attention flicked back to the white leopard.
"Its just us stay on this side, its all the way over there. " She insisted, mostly because she didn't want her son whining in her ears about no fishes.
Ears snapped in the direction of his parents, the cub blinked, but still decided not to look up, just in case they got all smooshy and snuggly. But Usiku didn't know his mother had once been attacked by a snake.
The cub got up and wandered around while his parents talked, investigating the surroundings whil he could.

"But..." ...it's a snake
Sighing quietly, one paw shuffling nervously, the little leopard tried to be brave; and for a moment it seemed like it might work. With a deep breath and a flick of his tail, Keone lifted his head, green eyes focused determinedly across the water as he stood to his paws.
But it wasn't to last, one look from those yellow eyes was all it took to send the leopard retreating, ducking behind his mate, ears back and his head buried against her shoulder.
Keone really was a skittish little creature, easily frightened despite his curious nature. Oh why did there have to be a snake here today, he didn't want to be eaten.

She was confident when the white male got up, he could do it, but then he cowered again, and she found herself looking down at her other ide, the white leopard with his face against her shoulder. She sighed and licked the top of his head comfortingly. The leopardess got to her paws and paced away, circling around the water.
"I'll get it out of there, then. " She said, looking back at him, tail flicking. This snake was looking pretty lazy, perhaps it'd already eaten. She could try and get it away, then. She just wouldn't get close enough for it to latch on.
Easly, the leopardess climbed up a tree, and began moving from one to another towards the one where the snake was.
The cub looked back to the two adults, to ifnd that one of his parents was missing. The cub blinked his green eyes, and tortted back over to his father, flopping next to one of his paws and looking around.
"Where'd mum go? "

Keone nearly jumped, startled by the movement at his side as the comforting form he had taken cover behind shifted. As she spoke he thought his heart would stop, head lifted just enough to look at her, ears lowered pitifully.
"But you'll..."
He took a step forward as if to protest, pausing with one paw raised. She was so much braver than him, but snakes ate leopards. He couldn't imagine what he would do if the snake ate Karama, couldn't imagine his life without her.
"...be careful..."
It was a plea, perhaps he was hoping that she would turn back and they could leave and come back later when there was no snake. But frozen though he was, paws refusing to budge from the bank where he waited, he did not take his eyes from his mate or the snake.
"She'll be back."

Calmly she got to the tree where the snake was, and almost emmediately, it lifted its head, sticking out its tongue to scent the air, yellow eyes scanning around. She crept foreward, keeping at a safe distance, and aware the snakes gaze was fixed on her. She moved a bit closer, and the snake, instead of getting into a threatning position, pulled away.
It'd eaten, she could see now. It was large and fat looking, and was far from interested in a leopard. She swished her tail, orange gaze intent on the reptile, trying to keep herself from bristling all over. She remembered the last encounter with a snake, and this one was alot bigger.
Sh prodded at its tail with her paw, pulling away as it lifted its head higher, threatning, though albeit a bit lazy. Snorting, the leopardess decided it'd be best to find another way to prod it out. She moved to the 'neighbor' branch, a small, twiglike one stuck out from another one over her head, though, this wasn't a branch from the same tree.
Lifting her paws, she pulled the skinny branch down to bop the snake on the head, using the leaves to bother the snake as well as she could. It was clearly not fond of being poked so much, and recoiled, looking about ready to snap at the branch, but the leopard was out of reach.
After a bit more prodding, it was fed up, and decided it couldn't get peace this way. It started to slither over its own long body, slithering around the tree, then slowly vanishing from view in the foilage.
"Finally. " She snorted, then turned to make her way back, moving easly from branch to branch.
From his point of view, it was rather hard to see anything his mother did in the trees, but he could see the snake vanish, and every now and then, a glimpse of her brown fur.
"Why did she go scare the snake away? " The little cub peeped out suddenly, looking up at hisfather, whom he looked barely anything like.

The little leopard watched anxiously, paws shuffling nervously as he watched his mate move through the trees closer and closer to the snake. He whined softly, unhappy that she was so close to the creature, why couldn't they have just come back later?
But still he watched, nearly yelping each time the serpent moved, jumping each time he felt his heart skip a beat, fearing that the worst would happen and the creature would eat the leopardess he cared so much for.
And then it was gone, slithering off to parts unknown, away from here. Sighing in relief, Keone smiled sheepishly at his mate as she returned to the bank.
"Your mother is very brave."

He blinked up at his father, twitching his tail to make a tiny "c" shape with his tail tip. It was sometimes hard to beleive his mother could be brave;; she was quiet-ish, and she kept reminding him how it might be dangerous to go out, so it almost gave him an impression that she was cowardly, perhaps like his father.
He just shrugged, and watched the leopardess return, shaking a few leaves off in her trot.
Snake gone, paws back on the ground, it was a quick get-away back to the two guys, though one was more of a boy. She grinned, sitting next to the white male again and nudging the dark cub towards the water so he could finaly attempt swimming.
"Snakes gone. " She grinned at Keone, headbutting his shoulder affectionately.

He smiled, purring lightly as he brushed against his mate. Regardless of what the cub though, Keone thought she was very brave, and somehow he couldn't help feeling a little braver with her at his side. Not that he was willing to go near a snake even with her there.
But the creature was gone and the danger were gone, and the water was safe. Now he could satisfy his returning hunger and teach his young son to fish. It was a good day after all, a peaceful life in the sea of green.

The cub grinned, and skipped quickly over to the water, but stopped a few feet away, raising his back side as if about to jump on something, then speeding off as fat as a.. chubby little cub could manage, jumping into the water with a satisfied grin, aand then he was in it.
And it was cold! He squeaked at first, and flailed his paws around, having managed to go as far as the deep water. He gasped, and looked ove rthe water at his parents, obviously unable to really swim very well.
She grinned, watching the little male run towards the water and nudging her mate when he got in the water. She'd sort of sexpected this. "I think you should go save your sun.(I had to retype that XD I had caps on! I looked so silly) "
She pulled away and motioned to the still flailing cub in the water, looking at her mate with her orange eyes then getting up and moving over to a tree, laying down at its trunk then yawning. She'd watch, but right now, swimming wasn't her favourite idea.
((We could end this with Keone going to teach Usiku 8D ))

Keone was not nearly so composed as his mate was. Green eyes widened, horrified as the cub flailed in the water. With a faint whine, the small leopard circled once before leaping into the water himself, propelled toward the cub by powerful strokes that cut through the water as if he had spent his life in the water.
Reaching the dark cub, Keone seized his scruff almost by instinct before swimming back to the shallow water where he would be safer. It seemed the fishing lesson would have to wait, first he'd have to teach the cub how to swim, and there couldn't have been a better day for it.
