"Stuff that grown ups can't explain and we can't either." Sairin's tail flicked. He didn't know if true magic existed, but it would be cool if it did!

Jini was having a difficult time comprehending what he meant. Something that grown ups could not explain? It seemed unlikely.

"When I'm grown up I'll find out what magic is," Jini nodded her head confidently, "Then, I'll let you know."

The mystery of the word intrigued her and all of the endless possibilities ran wild in her overactive imagination.

She'd discover the true meaning of magic and, when she did, her entire pride would be so proud of her. Jini smiled wistfully at the thought.

Sairin's ears pricked.

"We'll both find out. I can share it with mother."

He liked this plan, yes. Sairin shook out the tufts of white beginning to form on his neck, and stretched.

"So whatcha wanna do?"

Jini hadn't originally considered the idea that Sairin might like to join her on her quest for magic. The cub blinked and studied the older male curiously for a few moments with her head cocked to the side. He didn't look like the type that would enjoy adventures.

Although, she'd been wrong about things like this before. Guessing the nature of other lions wasn't her strong suit.

The thought of having a sidekick was utterly appealing.

"We could start our hunt for magic," Jini beamed stood up. Her tail twitched wildly from side to side in excitement.

"Agreed! The longer we wait, surely, the longer we wonder."

Sairin had a breif moment of vocabulary intellegence, and then stood up.

"So where should we look first?"

Jini was in awe of Sairin's sudden intelligence burst. Whether or not she fully understood what he'd meant was debatable. It just sounded so darn cool.

She was the brave warrior princess and he was the wise mentor, there to help and guide her. What a perfect combination!

"Uh-

Jini scratched a particularly aggravating spot beind her ear dumbly.

"I'm not sure. Where do you think magic would go?"

Sairin shrugged.

"I don't know. I used to live on a mountain with lots of caves, but, we left cause it's dangerious."

He watched her scratch her ear, and was otherwise calm.

Jini considered that information carefully. Was it possible that magic lurked within the depths of the caves from which Sairin and his family had come? It sounded promising. Particulary because they were dangerous.

Magic sounded dangerous. Miraculous, yes, but dangerous, all the same.

"We could go there," she said brightly, "and we could look around here too, you know. 'Cause whose to say there isn't any magic here if it's in the caves you came from?"

Then, a lightening bolt of inspiration struck her square inbetween the eyes.

What if Sairin had brought magic with him?

"I dunno. I never saw any." Sairin admitted. "And Mama says the lions there are mean."

He frowned.

"I bet any magic there is bad magic."

Bad magic. That presented new possibilities. She'd never paused to consider that there might be different types of magic like there were different types of bugs. Might magic have spots? Or antennas? Or... or... wings?

Mean lions. Jini sniffed. Warrior princess and her wise mentor could handle them.

Although, Sairin didn't look particularly intrigued by the thought of returning to those caves and, if Jini wan't so proud, she would have admitted that she wasn't very excited about it anymore.

"That's okay," she sighed and nodded her head, "I'm sure there's magic here somewhere. Not even a scaredy-cat like you could hate magic from here. 'Cause it's bound to be good magic."

"I'm not a scaredy cat." Sairin blinked, looking indignant.

"I just hunt SMART!" And he strutted to prove hit point, tripping on a twig with a startled mew.

He was the picture of grace.

"You sure look smart," Jini giggled sarcastically and, feeling particularly playful, nudjed Sairin in the side with her nose.

"Scaredy cat," she insisted stubbornly. The cub's intention wasn't exactly to offend. She wanted to see how far she could push him.

"Am not!" Sairin smirked slightly, pawing Jini slightly.

"But I bet YOU are!"

"Are too," Jini grinned and took a step away from him. She groaned exageratedly when his paw made contact with the back of her head. It hadn't actually hurt, she just had a tendancy to make everything dramatic. After all, undramatic things were just boring.

"I ain't no scaredy cat," Jini shook her head wildly, stunned that he'd even suggest such a ridiculous thing.

"I'll prove it."

"Will you?"

He smirked, still thinking it was a game.
