Queen Luna Moon Ruler Queen Luna Moon Ruler I have two, but I've made a thread on one! I was walking by the lake with Uzamaki_Naruto vii and our mom and we saaw a turtle laying eggs where the water was the lowest! And get this, we forgot our camera! crying cry I have another one that I forgot about!!! When I went on vacation in Tampa, we went to the beach. THe lifeguard was blowing the whistle because he saw a large black figure under the water. It swam by me while I was pushing a boat and hit my leg! It was a manatee! (They don't call it Manatee County for nothing!) I love manatees. Such sweet animals, and htey get so injured and sick so easily. I've only seen manatees at the Columbus Zoo, but I did see a turtle laying eggs once. That was also at teh COlumbus Zoo, but it was at their large pond area, not an exibit. We were supposed to go see the baby sea turtles hatch when we went to Florida (I was about 7, I think), but it thunderstormed too badly. We didn't go.

Saw some interesting things on Monday.
-Another 100 or so Eastern Grey Kangaroos. Some of them were real quiet and I got within 10 meters of a few before they hopped away. A lot of joeys. -Four Wedge-Tailed Eagles flying together. It's the first time I've seen four in a group- I assume that two must have been chicks. - One young red fox, obviously a 2006 cub. His body was quite sleek and streamlined but his tail was this massive bottlebrush and looked completely out of proportion. XD - One ginger rabbit and a mottled blue-white rabbit.
All in all it was a good day out.

The opossum might do well if you release him far away from neighborhoods in a forest setting. Opossums are very innocent, non-aggressive animals who usually let themselves get beat up rather than biting back. They end up as roadkill far too often. Just be very careful with it; they get stressed out easily. If you couldn't tell, I'm a big fan of them.
Little known fact: The dead-mimicking "playing possum" that these animals do is actually a sort of shock-induced, temporary coma. THey don't just fall over and lie still.
On another note, I have to retract a comment I think I made earlier. I have now actually seen a fox in the wild, not dead on the side of the road due to some careless driver. I was driving home last Saturday night from the barn when I saw this pale orange thing ahead crossing the road. I thought it was a cat until I drove by and got a look at its face and long, bushy tail. ^-^ I'm surprised at how petite foxes are, though that tail was as long as its entire body. It looked healthy, overall, and about as perfectly proportioned as the flawless cartoon versions of them.

We would have around 20 just hanging out in the yard. My dog went barking after them one time, and one of them turned around and stomped him eek I ran out screaming ( I know sweatdrop not the smartest idea, but I just wanted to save my dog) They ran off and my dog lay there bleeding. He was up and walking minutes later though. Boy that dog survived a lot eek (He passed away 2 christmas' ago, 15 years)

We don't have elk where I live, but we do have whitetailed deer. Why do deer love to hang around horse pastures? They do the same here, both at the barn I visit and one near my house. They were grazing in the pasture of the barn near my home once, when a person started walking down to the horses. As I drove by, I could see all those little tails pop up as they scattered. Really cute.
Our barn's owner said that one of her horses used to mimic deer when they were in his pen. Without them, he ran like any other horse. When the deer were around, he did that bounding hop like they do. xd

Sometimes my little Shetland, Pepper (who thinks he's a dinosaur) will try and start fights with the elk. That's when I have to scare them away. They would crush Pepper. Otherwise I love their presence, they are so beautiful.

Well, I guess Pepper still had plenty of herding in him. xd I think maybe the deer like the expanses of open field, and the fact that a bunch of fellow grazing animals live there. It makes them feel more secure that it's a safe area, I guess.
