Alec was beginning to adopt a state of numb calm as he was on the move once more, focused on his destination and the task of pulling the wheels underneath him to keep his forward momentum. In truth his arms were beginning to ache, unused to the strain of the constant exercise that was motion. He managed to drown it the pain with thought for now, though his resolve weakened as he watched the shadow of Sid not only catch up but walk ahead of him. His walking... it was so unhindered now...? He felt like an idiot for asking about his cane earlier. What a fool. Where was his cane, he didn't NEED it! Forgotten! That's where it was! Ironic how his loss was Sid's gain in some twisted way.

The sharkboy's eyes struggled to focus as they reached the well-lit cafeteria, though of course Sid has gotten there first. There'd been no opportunity to show how self-sufficient he could be, how he didn't NEED to have the door held for him; it was open before he could even react. The boy bristled inwardly as he was forced to pass by Sid while he heald the door open and he mutely refused to speak a word of thanks. The last straw was the sight of being left behind as the fishman strode towards the food with so much confidence, a cocky swagger it must've been. The b*****d was mocking him. He was MOCKING HIM.

A firm grip was applied to the rims of his wheelchair, jaws grinding into one another as even his gills seemed to flare with the rising rage. The boy turned sharply with enough force to cause the wheels to squeal against the tile floor and determinedly approached the buffet-style servery.

When he heard the squeal, Sid was looking over the food and trying to come to terms with the fact that fish was apparently the only thing that would ever sound appetizing again. He cursed himself, thinking maybe he should have offered to help or something. That would have been polite thing to do... Or was it the other way around?

When he turned to see if Alec was okay, the enraged look on his face was unmistakable- even worse, even on his twisted features.

"Uh... Alec?" Sid said, still holding an empty plate. "You okay?"

Perhaps he would've been more calm if food wasn't involved in the equation, a sort of inner feeding frenzy bringing about more uncharacteristic behavior from the teenager. Regardless of the cause, Alec was definetly not seeing straight anymore. Every Sid said or did was somehow perceived as a jab at the boy's inadequacy. Even the man's naive question was taken as mockery.

"A' neh wha' ye doin 'ere." He slowly began, vengeful, bitter emotions from his mind boiling over to spill from his mouth in a wave of venom. His voice sounded as cold and sneering as ever. "A' neh. Ye tryin' t'make me feel like 'n idjit. Ye tryin t'show off 'ow great ya are now, n' how fookin low a' am!" The volume of his words was rising as was the fiery look in his eyes as they locked on Sid, unwavering.

Things were only getting more surreal. Had he really given that impression? Sid couldn't even remember. "Whoa, whoa, Hold on a sec..." He almost put his hands up placating, until he remember he was still holding the plate. He laid it aside. "I don't think you're low. I'm not exactly doing cartwheels about all this, man." He gestured vaguely at the scales on his chest with a hand that was now more fin like that ever.

His sounding so calm about it probably wasn't helping his case any, but he could only push his own problems aside for so much longer before they snapped back and hit him all at once.

Now wasn't the time, but having an angry shark boy staring him down wasn't helping things any.

"Just calm down," he said.

Neither was that.

Scales, he was complaining about scales! Admittedly, his tail was a little weird and so were the funny lights all over his body but at least he could walk! The denial of what Sid's true intentions were only proved to infuriate Alec more as his temper got more and more out of control.

"Com down? COM DOWN? D'n tell me t'com down, D'N TELL ME T'DEH ANEHTHIN!" The boy shook with the exertion of expelling his anger, wheeling closer to Sid as if he could really cause him harm no matter what his physical state was. "Ye thin' ye betteh than me, don' ye. STOP FOOKIN LOOKIN AT ME LIKE THA! I SAID STOP!!"

Sid was fooled, as was evidence by how he backed against the rail. "Okay..." His mind race for something to say to defuse the situation. Nothing good came to him.

"What do you want, then?"

He hadn't meant to say that, and certainly not in the defensive tone he used. He blamed it on the lights in the cafeteria. How could anyone think straight under flourescent lights?

Alec pushed forwards even more this time but only to reach over the counter to retrieve a tray for himself. Setting it firmly in his lap, he began shovelling random foods onto a plate and then onto the tray. "Nothin, fookin nothin." The boy spat out, harsh movements coupled with an inability to properly reach most of things he was scooping caused him to make more of a mess on the counter than he had expected. With a full tray on his lap, he spun his wheelchair to the side and began pushing himself to a table. Man his arms were hurting something fierce.

"I wan' me LEGS back. I wan' teh shove a FOOKIN FORK N' MOREAU'S EYE!" The youngster continued to roar, his voice carrying through the cafeteria sufficiently. He didn't care about the possible consequences of his words or actions, he didn't care about anything at that point.

Sid slipped to one side just to give Alec some space... and to help keep from feeling as though he was pinned. "It wouldn't change anything," he said softly. He'd given up on trying to formulate reassuring things to say. He couldn't even pretend to see much of a brightside with any of it.

"All you can do is deal with it."

As much as he said that, he might as well make a framed needlepoint of it. He decided it best to not mention there was always someone who was worse of, given that he was looking at him.

"But if you want a hug or something..."

Despite having no real idea what he wanted to do or say or even hear to make himself feel any better, Alec was damned sure that 'deal with it' was not at the top of his prospective list. It wasn't entirely unexpected seeing as who it was coming from but it didn't make it any less of an insult for him to hear someone tell him to suck it up and move on. Coupled with a suggestion that was just about the exact opposite of what he felt like doing at the time, he soon found himself at wit's end. This attempt at being civil was not working out, and it was obvious that Sid was to blame (at least in his mind).

"Fook off." He snorted bitterly, barely making it to the table before he lobbed the tray onto the surface. The smartass was only making it worse by continuing to mock him. "Ye think a c'nt fook ye up o' somethin." His grumbling became unintelligable as he couldn't resist digging into his food.

Sid glanced at the food, then at Alec as he wheeled over to the table. He really should have thought of grabbing some food while he was doling out his halfassed words of wisdom. He hurriedly threw a few things on to his plate and moved over to sit across from the shark boy.

"Okay... So that wasn't exactly helpful. I'm sorry."

The apology helped a little in difusing the loose cannon that was Alec, as he only mumbled a few more curse words before falling silent in favor of eating. Perhaps he was being too hard on Sid. He'd never been much of a jerk to him in the past, so there really wasn't much to go on in terms of hate material. Still, the sharkboy was not in the best of moods.

He glanced up for a second to peer at what Sid was eating out of personal curiousity before tearing off another bite of his steak.

Sid's plate had nothing on it but fish, and none if it looked like it had seen the inside of an oven. He looked at it mournfully before he popped it into his mouth. He made the pretense of rolling it around with his tongue, but as chewing was riskier than ever he ended up swallowing the fish more or less whole.

"At least you still have a taste for steak," Sid said. He didn't even want to try and see what his new palette would make of it.

Alec wanted to remark that recently he'd acquired a taste for anything that was even remotely shaped like something edible but attributed it to his powerful hunger pangs. In light of that, he was glad to get out his duplex before he stooped to gnawing on furniture. As he had no viable retort, he simply shrugged in response. The thing was that he didn't feel like killing anymore at the moment anymore.

"Right, so..." Sid trailed off into silence and shrugged. Since anything more he said would likely only make things worse, he settled for eating in silence. Granted, that was relatively when eating had became a noise process of trying eat without chewing much or choking from the lack of it. He'd yet to work out a good method.

Much like Sid, Alec had adapted his eating habits to swallowing things mostly whole. His teeth were definetly not for chewing anymore and the most he could do was tear things into small chunks, given that he had enough time to sit there and pick apart things. Perhaps that was one thing they had in common and a reason why he was feeling calmer now.

Regardless, the teen still felt like he needed to return to reclusion. Thankful that he'd met a friend and not a complete stranger in the dark of night (or worse, an enemy), he wanted to cut his losses and make sure it stayed that way. "A' think ye lights aw' cool." Alec suddenly announced as he blatantly went about organizing his tray on his lap again, keeping his face down and to his task. Once he was satisfied that it wouldn't budge, he began wheeling in reverse. "Seeye." The boy uttered, much more subdued than earlier.
