By the way, Dictionary.com says this: (Cut and paste):
eve-ning Audio pronunciation of "evening" ( P ) Pronunciation Key (vnng)
n.
1. The period of decreasing daylight between afternoon and night.
2. The period between sunset or the evening meal and bedtime: a quiet evening at home.
3. A later period or time: in the evening of one's life.
4. Chiefly Southern U.S. The time from noon to twilight.
(Note the TWO syllables)
however they ALSO state:
tr. & intr-v. e-vened, e-ven-ing, e-vens
To make or become even.
Here are three syllables, however, this form of the word is *NOT* the noun, which, I am sure is what was intended.
I'd check out my large Oxford dictionary, but if I cut and pasted that, it would be much too tough to get the glue stick orr of my monitor, not to mention seeing past the paper clipping.....

Ok, I conceed. I'll admit when I'm wrong, but it's odd that all my life I'd been taught the correct pronounciation is "eev-eh-ning."
