Parties are an expected feature, but in the screen shot you can't tell if it really is or not. The game would sorta suck if you couldn't party up with other members in Gaia, as Gaia is pretty community based =___=;;
It has also been said that pre-existing weapon items will not have any effect on the battle system besides visual purposes. If you look at the screen shot, none of them are visibly using weapons, and the character wearing starter clothes is using some sort of boxing glove to attack. Everyone else on screen is either not attacking or using spells.
And it was assumed it would be in Towns after people began exploring the further functions of it when it was first released. Almost all games have been a pretext for the Battle System. Towns was to test multiple users moving in real-time and the Casino games were testing live-chat and party functions.
Also, I heard there wouldn't be PVP in the early stages of the game.

i can't wait. it looks alright, but the thing is, with PvP, come PKers. and that won't be fun for the people of lower levels.

I agree that PvP adds a whole new level of complexity which I can understand the developers not wanting to deal with.
As to PvP resulting in PKers is a different issue. I've proposed and agreed with proposed about creating a "dueling" system within the BatSys. Mainly this is to take PvP and put in a Arena style fight where users can moderate their powers. Users would have to agree to duels much like Trades or Friend requests. People who try to harass other users about fighting in PvP would be subject to the same punishments any harassment done on Gaia.
An Arena system could also be balanced against expected returns from the Party oriented play. There are also other options that could be implemented, such as Survival or Monster Kill Count contests. Users would not have go head to head but instead compete score wise against computer foes. This style of competition seems in keeping with how Gaia Games operate now.
Also PKing comes from the ability to 'Gain' from another player's death. If no reward is there then PKing becomes less attractive, unless your just being a jerk.

Simply put, why? Now duals and arena PvP I can understand but just simple player killing seems pointless and very... well rude (a kind word).

Why do we even need a battle system? We have dice etc. Perhaps they could make something a bit more than that, but this is just like th eidea of having a "gaia chat" thing. We already have AIM, there are already free MMORPGs, this just seems like a waste and even more of a leaning towards quick fun as opposed to more extended discussion or RP style, ah well

Meh, mostly to have a little bit of everything? I mean, why not get something fun if you can... It's not like there's a good logical reason to say "I don't want this take it away." and still seem sane... I mean, it's just more on gaia rather than less.

Battling with dice and on an instant messenger isn't quite the same as actually having your avi battle. I think the arrival of the battle system will bring more battle related discussions.

Well Powaqqatsi we sort do need it. It could be another valuable Gold Sink, helping the Gaian economy. But mainly most of us just real want it ...and badly. gonk
And having more ways to do battle is great. 3nodding
