"So...who is this "someone else", Yaku? I could possibly believe the rest you are saying but who would take care of a hyena and send him to live with others? A hyena is a strong companion, we could even fend off lions why send ya off? You said you were going to be completely honest with me, Yaku."

She scowled and eyed him for any small gestures that would give him away or something. However, he was so emotionless when he talked about his own parents....there was somethings about Yakuti she never knew before.

"A friend gave you his daughter to be your slave? That is not very likely....you aren't behing honest with me. So maybe I should break off the deal and just eat her. She looks good enough to be able to."

Shira smirked a tooth smirk down at the small honey badger.

"Make your choice now or you lose yourself a small rodent."

Oh, great, she went and asked... Oh well, it couldn't be helped. "The other one was Jamaa..." He said, hoping a name would suffice. He did NOT want her finding out that Jamaa was a wild dog, it wouldn't be pretty.

"And as for Omoa, her father doesn't know she's a slave, she's my 'companion' as far as he knows, and I plan to treat her as such. Slave is merely a title to allow her to stay with me." He said bluntly, sheilding her from Shira again.

"Now it really is your turn, I've told you everything I can think of."

"EEP!" Omoa squealed, ducking behind Yakuti and shivering with fear, she didn't like Shira at all... She also didn't know what a 'slave' was, but she was willing to be one to stay with her friend.

Shira scowled at the mention of Jamaa's name. She knew exactly who he was. That foolish wild dog...so then, this was the son that he spoke of. Yakuti, no wonder why his name sounded so familiar and that scent was even more. This was Jamaa's hyena son.

"Jamaa...that foolish wild dog."

She let out a sigh.

"I loved that male...I will be honest, I really did. I knew he protroled the borders of the Pride Lands, I was a vagrant then, wandering around when i met him. He was nice, sweet, protective...well, if you got over the fact he was trying to get me into the graveyard. But when I discovered he had a son and a mate...I hated him, after that all I knew was that wild dog were scum, nothing but trouble...even for the stomach. I haven't seen the fool since. And you already know I dislike domineering males and slaves."

She scoffed and looked down at her paws.

"This discussion does not leave the mouths of any of us or I will be sure to bring a quick death to either of you. I am not afraid to kill you Yakuti."

Loved him? LOVED HIM?! How could a hyena like her love Jamaa? Well, she used to... Yakuti was very confused now, they weren't even the same species!

"That goes for you too, Shira, none of us tell anyone of this... Agreed?" He asked, before adressing what could have been taken as a threat.

"I know you're not afraid to kill me, but I tell you this, I will fight back, and even though I'm no match for you, I will leave you weakened, and Mafa WILL find out I have been killed, and she will kill you. I may not be able to, but she can, I garuntee it."

"You too Omoa, just... Act like this never happened, okay?" He asked in a more friendly tone.

"Yah!" Omoa said, honestly forgetting most of this. It all went over her head, she didn't know nor care what they were talking about. The young ratel yawned and curled up behind Yakuti, dozing off to sleep.

"But Shira... There's one thing that's been confusing me for a while, I don't understand..." He mumbled, he didn't think she could explain it... Jamaa didn't make him understand, he didn't think Shira could either. "I don't understand love... I mean, I loved Jamaa like my father, but... I've never loved anyone who wasn't like my family, what is it?"

"I know males and females love eachother sometimes, but... how does it work? What does it mean to... love someone?"

"Well, it is an attraction between from one to another. Love is a strong feeling that a female shares for a male and vice versia. Sometimes there is male to male or female to female attractions...but that is something else. Anyways, love is a feeling for another. Some animals thrive and live by it letting it guide their lives. Well, if you love someone very much, you'd give your life for them and would spend your entire life with them if it was strong enough. Sounds mushy huh? Did Jamaa tell you about the birds and the bees?"

What was she saying, Jamaa probably put it bluntly knowing him.

"I have no one to tell. And if I did kill you, I would gladly give my life to Mafa for even doing it to begin with. And from now on, please don't mention his name anymore..."

She didn't want to keep thinking about him. They may have been two different species, but she loved him. She did not care about having pups, if it was even possible, she only wanted to be with him. But when she discovered he had a family, it tore her up and made her cold. For once when she saw a male, she liked him and finally it wasn't the other way around....it was unfortunate that she was not able to love him more. She had given up on love.

"... I dunno, it sounds kind of nice to me." He said sheepishly. It sounded like a good thing, he wanted to love someone and be loved, to him it sounded like the best thing in the world.

"Birds and... Bees?" He asked, cocking his head slightly. He still didn't know where babies came from, let alone heard of the saying.

"Okay Shira... I won't talk about him." He sighed, "But... How would you know if you're in love?"

Shira sighed,

"You'll know when that one gets hurt you and you get made at the one who hurt them. When they are sad, you worry. When they are happy, you are happy. When you eat something you don't think if you'd like it but if that one would. The person you love would be very special to you. Yakuti, if you love someone, don't hide and come right out and say it. I did not and I was heart broken. Love can be a good and bad thing, it is a great feeling but if it is gone there is a great dark feeling.

Yakuti, love is very hard to explain. You could only describe it. You'll know what it is when it comes to you. Don't rush into it."

She smiled and went out pulling the food back inside. She had almost forgotten the reason why she left in the first place. It was to get food for her and Yakuti. Now that she was looking at it and then to the other two, she didn't seem so hungry anymore.

Shira peered down at the little ratel and smiled teh best she could. How could she not? It was a female, that deserved a smile alone.

"Hello, Onoa. Will you be staying here with Yakuti and I?"

"Okay... I think I understand." Yakuti said, though he really did not. He hoped to fall in love someday, then he could truley understand.

The blue hyena stood up, "Shira, should we go out and patrol, or would you like to eat?" He asked curiously, looking at the food she brought. If she wanted to eat that was fine, he wasn't very hungry, but he was never one to turn down food.

Omoa uncurled herself and looked up at Shira, "Yah." She said nervously, "Stay 'Kuti an Shira."

Shira smiled down at the ratel.

"Alright then, Onoa will stay with Shira and " 'Kuti"."

She smiled and pawed at her head before returning to her feet with her normal, stern expression. She was gonna protect the two, it was what she was to do. Yakuti meant a lot to this pack, and Onoa meant a lot to Yakuti. Somewhere in her made her feel closer to adolescent now that he knew more about her and she him.

"The food could wait, we will have it when we return. We are gonna go on our patrol. And Onoa is coming with us. She better get used to our routines if she wishes to stay with us long."

She moved the meat into the corner so no other would get it and started out, careful of the trap outside of the den.

"Come along you two."

Yakuti smiled, Shira was being nice to Omoa! That was good, he didn't think Omoa would like staying at all if Shira kept being mean to her. "Alright then, come on Omoa." He said happily, picking her up and setting her outside the den so she wouldn't fall into the hole.

"Shira is right, Omoa. You've gotta get used to how we live here." He said. "And you can act normal around her, just... Don't over do it, okay?"

"Yay! Nice Shira!" Omoa bumbled, running in a couple small circles for no apparent reason. "P'trol fun?" She asked, briskly jogging alongside the walking hyenas to keep up.

"Hm, fun isn't really the word, but you'll see, its not too bad."

Shira sighed, alright this was gonna be a bumpy ride for her. And Shira planned to make it very....very...VERY bumpy for her. She may be nice, but when it comes to surviving out here, it was a serious business. What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger.

"Alright, it's time to start. I suppose this time since this is Onoa's first time, we will be sticking together."

She said, swinging her tail a bit and keeping her tail raise to signal her rank, just the same as Yakuti's. She didn't care if she was lower or higher than him, not like the male would do anything to her about it.

Omoa was gonna have to deal with these rough barren lands, luckily she had two of the best of the pack with her. Well, in her opinion anyways. However, during this patrol, Shira was gonna do nothing but watch Yakuti teach the little one himself. Shira only came along to observe and interject if something were to happen. Hopefully, this run will be a nice one.

All she could do was watch the adolescent speak to the little ratel. She smiled. Maybe she liked him.

"Yeah, we don't want any of the other's finding her and eating her... Until they know she's mine, she isn't going off on her own, got that Omoa?"

They started walking, and Yakuti started explaining to Omoa how to patrol. He taught her to learn the route, to watch out for suspicious creatures, especially lions. Any lion, any at all, he told her, was to be reported immediately to the nearest pack member.

"Remember that. You're not big enough to fight them yet Omoa, so just come straight to Shira or me if you find one once you start patrolling on your own."

Yakuti was getting exited, he had not one friend now, but two! Two that would make sure he was never lonely, they were sort of like his family now...

Omoa jogged alongside Yakuti, listening intently to what he had to say. She commited it all to memory, making sure to remember the path they took, and especially the part about suspicious characters and lions.

It wasn't fun, she determined that immediately, but it wasn't bad... She could spend a lot of time here. She continued to listen to what the hyena had to say, they all went off into the distance, teaching the young ratel what she needed to know.

((The end ^^))
