I. the start of the dreams

"A dream is a wish your heart makes," you say, but what if your dream was controlled by a strange power? Perhaps a spirit of something that once was...

Noah lay asleep in his bed as the wind blew into his room, he unintentionally shivered as he was dreaming, dreaming of a young princess. He found himself in a castle filled with guards and many doors leading to various rooms. There was one room that led to a single crib that was placed in the center of the room. Noah was curious as to whose it belonged to. He looked around some more and found the main hall that led to the king's chambers.

He knocked, but no one heard him so he entered the room and found the King and Queen of the kingdom holding a newborn child. Noah slowly walked closer to get a better look and found that it was a girl. He smiled, and as he was about to hold her hand, the child's eyes opened and Noah woke up.

"Huh? Why did that girl look at me all weird?" he said to himself as he got dressed. The question ran through his mind the whole time that he changed and brushed his teeth. Noah's hair was especially messy today, and he didn't even care. It was Saturday, so he didn't mind. Before he walked out his door and into the kitchen, he let out a deep, "HMMM!". When he reached the bottom of the small stairs, he sniffed the air around him and could smell the delicious aroma of scrambled eggs in the air as his mom, Ruth, held the pan.

A few minutes passed and breakfast was served! Noah jumped onto his seat and started to eat very quickly. He chewed on his bacon, and gulped down his milk. "I'M DONE!" he yelled as he scooted out of his chair and ran into the living room. Before he reached the television, he noticed a house ad circled in the Saturday morning newspaper that sat on the small coffee table.

"Mommy? What's this?" he asked as he put his little face closer to the newspaper. "Are we moving?" he said with a frown. Ruth turned her head as she looked at her son. "Yeah we are! But don't worry, it's a much bigger house!" she assured him with a wide smile. "Really?!" he exclaimed as he jumped up and down. He was way too excited that he forgot what he was going to do before he saw the newspaper.

He continued to jump up and down even as his mother was washing the dishes and doing the laundry. "When? When!?" he would ask occasionally, and his mom would just reply with a sweet, "Soon." His excitement would usually die down once she said that, but would return after a few minutes of thinking.

"Well, I don't care when! As long as we get to move! I don't really have any friends here anyways....!!" he said as he ran up to his room and packed up his things. Before he finished packing he saw a dim flash, he turned around and looked out his window. There was nothing there, except for a young girl, the one in his dream. he dropped his things and rubbed his eyes. He looked outside the window again, and she was gone.

"Huh? Who was that?" he asked as he continued to stare out of his gleaming window.

He sat there until it was lunch, and after that, he started to draw pictures. He would usually draw pictures of bunnies, but he wasn't in the mood for bunnies. Instead he started to draw pictures of the kingdom in his dreams and the King and Queen with the baby.

e continued to draw even through dinner, when he told his mom, "I'm not hungry." She could only worry since whenever a child said those three words, it usually meant that something was wrong.

"Noah, what's wrong?" she eventually asked him as he was still drawing even right before his bedtime. Noah said nothing and continued to draw. "Noah?" she questioned. Noah still kept quiet. "Well, we are moving very soon. Next week actually!" she said with a fake grin. She couldn't help but think what was wrong with Noah.

It was eventually time for bed, but Noah kept drawing, as if he was never tired. Eventually, he had stacks and stacks of pictures, that Noah plastered all across his wall with a glue stick. He finally smiled at his acomplishment. His room was filled with pictures of the kingdom, each different from the others. The majority were of the young girl, who had eventually developed pointed ears and a long tail, the same color as her hair. These were all just a part of Noah's imagination, or so he thought.

Soon after that, he blinked twice. "Huh? What happened?" he said as the sun started to rise. It was as if he had just been in a deep, deep trance, controlled by someone, or something.

Ruth came in, rubbing her sleepy eyes, saying, "Noah? Yawn. Have you been up all night?"

"I...I....I dunno..." he said as he started to cry.
Ruth fell to her knees and wrapped her arms around him saying, "Honey, what's wrong?"
"I'm not sure..." he said, trying to choke back tears.
"Well, It's going to be okay..." she said in a calming voice, "It's all going to be okay."

Ruth looked up at the various drawings on Noah's wall and her eyes started to widen at the sight. She never knew that Noah would be capable of such things. Her heart started to beat faster, even thought she didn't have a clue as to why.

As she continued to hold tightly onto Noah, that same light that Noah saw flashed in the sky and quickly dissapeared, just like a shooting star...

As the days went by, Ruth and Noah quickly gathered all their things together, getting ready to move. He packed the truck with their belongings and before they knew it, they were in their new house, with all of their things in place. Time was flying by very quickly, and soon enough, that young girl in Noah's dream, would make all his wishes come true...

II. captured!

Noah walked down the hall into the guest bedroom, with a shoebox in his possession. He sat down in the empty room and opened the shoebox. The box was filled with Noah's drawings, and he started to take them out, one by one. As he went through each one, one by one, he felt like someone was watching him, but whenever he looked around, he saw no one.

When he reached the final picture, and set it down, and started to beam at his acomplishment. "These are all so good!" he said as he smiled. He looked out of the window, and found that it was already night time! "Woah! It got so dark, so fast! I'd better get ready for bed, or else mom might get mad at me! He quickly gathered up all of his drawings and stuffed them into the shoebox. He grabbed it and ran across the hall into his room. He set it down under his bed and got ready to sleep. Little did he know that the pictures in the shoebox started to glow a eerie, yet calming array of colors.

Noah, in his footie pajamas, jumped into bed and pulled the blanket over his head. Ruth went into the room, pulled down the covers and kissed Noah on the forehead. He smiled. "Good night." she said with a gentle smile. "Night Mom! Love ya'!" he said as Ruth got up and turned off the lights on her way out.

His room was not pitch black, with only the moon there as a light. He rolled over to his side and tightly closed his eyes. He wished for the dream about the princess, wanting to continue where he left off, and Noah got just what he wished for.

Noah found himself in the castle's main hall, with a large staircase to his right. "Where's the princess' room again?" he said as he walked up the stairs. "324...325...326.." Noah said as he counted the stairs up to the hallway that the room was on. He reached the top of the stairs and exclaimed, "327!" He looked around, and found the room he was looking for. He noticed that it was wide open, and he could hear voices coming from within the room. "Hrmm?" he said as he walked in.

He saw the Queen on the ground, sobbing, and the King and many other guards, searching around the room. It looked like they were looking for clues, and the only thing they found was a strand of crimson colored hair.

"Whose hair does this belong to?" questioned the King, in a stern voice. "Huh?!" he demanded an answer from the nervous guards. "W-We don't know...S-Sir..." they said, now covered in sweat. "Go find whoever took our precious daughter...NOW!" he yelled as his wife started to cry harder. The King came over and comforted the Queen, gesturing the guards to hurry and find the princess. They scrambled around before actually leaving the room. Noah stepped out of their way as the guards went seperate ways. "The princess...was captured?" Noah questioned. "I'm going to find her!" he yelled as he ran down the many sets of stairs.

After a few minutes, Noah reached the bottom of the stairs, and quickly ran out of the castle and into field of flowers. Noah eagerly looked around, trying to find any clue. He looked under rocks, but only found spiders and various other types of insects underneath. He continued to search high and low until he heard a sound. He heard the crying of a baby not too far from where he was and she ran across the field to find a cloaked woman, holding a child, well holding the princess! "Stop!" he yelled, and the woman actually turned around! She actually heard him!

Her eyes started to widen as she tried to hide her face. "Wait!" he yelled as he ran down the hill and tried to catch up to the woman. She was walking faster now, and it was hard for Noah to keep up. The woman kept looking back, and Noah could tell that it was her who kidnapped the princess. She had hair the color of blood, just like the hair that the guards had found in the palace. He could also tell that the girl that she had in her arms, was Ashe! But what did she want with Ashe?

Noah tried to keep up, but he got tired very quickly. "W-W-Wait..." he said, as he tried to get a breath of air. The red haired woman turned around, and looked straight to Noah. She had a smile on her face and said, "I am completing the bond..." she said as she snapped her fingers, and before he knew it, Noah's face was planted in the soft soil.

Noah woke up and jumped up, out of his bed, in a cold sweat. "What happened?" he said as a soft voice said "It was all a dream." it sounded like a woman, but Noah didn't know where the voice was coming from. "Who's there?!" he yelled as he looked around. "No one of importance..." she said. "I am here, just like I said, to complete the bond between you and this child." The woman appeared in a mysterious cloak, with shadows of spirits flowing around her. The woman had crimson colored hair, and very frail skin. It was the woman in Noah's dreams!

"What do you mean? Who are you?!" he asked as he covered his head with the blanket, trying to hide himself from the woman. "Go away!" he yelled. Noah shivered as the woman smiled and dissapeared. "You'll see..." she said. A small light flashed, and there, in his grasp, was a small girl, with cream colored hair, and a small fox-like tail, under the covers. The girl opened her eyes with a curious look on her face.

"The princess?" Noah questioned, as he took off the blanket from his head, "How did she get here?"

III. fit for a queen

Waaahhh!! exclaimed baby Ashe. Ruth immediately came in, picking up the little girl. "It's okay sweetie, it's okay...I've got you." Ruth rocked back and forth, tapping the child's back very gently.

"Is she okay?" questioned Noah, walking in the room, holding his favorite toy dinosaur.
"Yeah, she's okay. No need to worry Honey." she said, reassured him with a loving smile.
"Okay then." he said, walking out.

Noah walked into his own room and sat down. He started to play with the dinosaur he had in his hand, along with his toy horse. He hit the two toys against each other, imitating the noise of a crash with his mouth; his spit flying everywhere. But he didn't seem in the mood to be playing with his toys. He still can't get over the fact that he saved Ashe...and now that she's here...living, breathing. She's not just part of his imagination, she's real now.

Noah shrugged and reached under his bed for his journal, but he noticed it was locked! He sighed as he felt around the floor for the keys and when he found them, he took his arm back out and unlocked the journal. He also reached for the sky blue pen. Noah turned to a new page and started to write.

    Noah's Journal
    Dear Journal,
It has been a week since I found the princess under my bed! I was sort of confused at first, and I still am, but I'm trying to keep quiet about the truth. I haven't exactly told Mommy about how I found her...But you know how I am with secrets! I'm very bad at keeping them, especially when they're juicy! But what I did tell her was that I found her on the corner of the street, lying in the mud, with a note attatched to her neck that said: "Hello, my name is Ashe. Please take care of me." I don't think she believes me...I know she'll find out the truth...eventually, but she's gonna get reallly mad! I don't want her to give me a time out! I hate those! Especially now that I can't draw on the walls.

But recently, we've been out shopping a lot for Ashe. Girls sure need a lot of things! She has more stuff than I do! And she's not even one! But oh well, Mommy lets me buy things too! I got this new toy set and its so cool! There's astronauts and and cowboys...and even more dinosaurs! Riley isn't alone anymore! But everything we got her is pink! Blech! AND hearts too! Wherever I look, I see pink! But oh well...as long as Ashe is happy....She should at least be treated right, since she is going to be a queen someday!

    Well that's all for now!
    Bye bye!
    - Noah

IV. many sleepless nights

"G'night Mom!" yelled Noah from his room.
"Goodnight Noah." replied his mother in a quite tone.

Noah smiled as he switched off the lights and hopped into bed. He pulled the covers over his face and closed his eyes. After a few minutes passed, he was fast asleep.

It wasn't too long until he woke back up, hearing the yelling of Ashe from across the hall. Noah grumbled as he turned over on his side and covered his ear with his pillow. That didn't do anything at all. Ashe continued to cry and cry, occasionally toning down, but it quickly grew louder and louder. Noah tightly shut his eyes, trying to ignore the annoying sound of the little girl. He eventually cried out, "Moooommmm!!! Make her stop!" He thought that would take care of everything, but nothing happened. He angrily shot up out of bed and stomped across to Ruth's room. He pounded on the door and opened it. He looked around, but his mother was fast asleep.

He tried to mover her around, hoping she would wake up, but it was no use. He had other methods, like tickling her, jumping on the bed, jumping on her, but still, not sign of movement. "Grr..." he grumbled as he jumped out of the large bed. He stomped his feet like a might dinosaur and slammed the door.

Noah kept on grumbling and making noises while he stomped over to Ashe's room. She was still crying, and Noah was a little amazed at how long she could go on like that. "She needs to teach me how to cry like that..." he thought to himself, avoiding the fact that he was in favor of the crying. He walked over to her crib and found that her clothes and her blanket were wet from all of her tears. He could also smell the scent of her dirty diaper. He tried to pick her up, but she was too heavy and she kept moving so it was hard to keep a firm grip on her.

She continued to cry and Noah was getting restless. "I can't take this!" he said. He slammed all the doors on the way to his room and jumped back into bed. He pulled over the covers once again and got all the pillows and stuffed animals from around him and put them above his ear, trying to block out the noise.

It was still no use, his ears were tuned out to any noise around him, and of course Ashe was still crying. Noah got back up and rummaged through his desk to find two, yellow earplugs. “Finally!” he exclaimed as he stuck them into his ear, ignoring the fact that they were very thin and covered in dust. Once he put them in, he no longer heard the crying of the little girl. He went back into his bed with a grin on his face. He finally accomplished the task of getting rid of the crying, without getting rid of the girl!

But his joy didn’t last for very long Ashe’s crying continued on. "This isn't fair!" he exclaimed as he started to cry himself. Now the sound of the two siblings echoed through the entire house. Noah, still crying, once again got out of bed and went into Ashe’s room. He searched the entire room to find the clean diaper and clean clothes. He picked up Ashe, not caring how she felt, and placed her on the ground. He took off her diaper and the scent didn’t seem to affect him at all. He cleaned her and put the new diaper on. He also took her out of her clothes and put her into new, dry clothes. Noah was actually surprised that he knew what to do. He figured that from watching his mom do it all the time, it finally grew on him and he could now do it himself. Noah stayed in Ashe’s room until she finally stopped crying. A wide smile started to grow on Noah’s face as he turned off the light and went back into his bed. It didn’t take long until Noah was fast asleep himself.

As the sun started to rise, Ruth woke up and went to Ashe’s room expecting to find a very dirty diaper. She looked over the crib and was surprised that Ashe was fast asleep and she had a change of clothes! “How did this--” she stopped and she started to chuckle. “Good job Noah, I’m proud of you.” She said as she started to walk away.

i. playdate with taji; thingy one meet thingy two

Ruth went walking down the street, with Noah holding one of her hands, and baby Ashe in the other. They were planning on going back to the Gambino marketplace to finish their shopping, and to buy some new things for Ashe's room, and for her. Ashe was very excited and started to wag her tail back and forth.

"So Mom, can I buy some things there? I really want some candy and chocolate milk!" Noah exclaimed as he drooled at the thought. Ruth looked over at her son and said, "Sure Noah, but not too much, since we don't want you to get another cavity!"
"I know..." he said as he stuck his finger in his mouth, trying to find his multiple fillings. Ashe looked over at him and stuck her thumb in her mouth and started sucking on it.
"Noah! Get your hand out of your mouth! You're being a bad example for Ashe!"
    "Humph!"

It was only a few minutes later when they passed a very large mansion. It was sparkling in the sunlight as the windows glared onto the group's face. Noah put one hand above his eyes to block the sun and exclaimed, "Mommmm, it's too sunny!"
"I know I know." she said as they continued on, not noticing who the mansion actually belonged to. "Well, we're almost at the market!"

    "Do we have to?"

Though Rhine was sulking with practically everything he had, his mother had long since become impervious to his efforts. She calmly lifted a happily babbling Taji from the floor, where she was acquainting herself with the front gallery's rug, and strapped her into the old carriage they had found in the attic. It was a bit roomy -- meant for two babies, not one -- but they could always buy another one if it proved too impractical.

"You don't have to, you get to. Excited, aren't we?" This last part was addressed to her other son.

"No, I don't mind," Cianan shrugged, folding blankets and crouching down to slip them into the pouch built into the underside of the carriage. At his mother's direction, he stood up and tucked one around Taji, who promptly started a game of How Much Of This Can I Fit In My Mouth.

"I'm too old!" Rhine continued protesting, arms folded over his chest and hunched over, glaring at the carriage. "I can't be seen shopping for baby stuff. I have homework this weekend."

"Which you finished, your father checked it over yesterday." His mother reminded him, checking her pockets to make sure she had everything in place before wheeling the carriage out of the front door and through the outside loggia. Both twins trailed after her, one more reluctantly than the other.

"--And I'm not feeling well! You wouldn't want to make the Thingy sick, would you?!"

"Rhine, darling, the day you cease rambling is the day I know you're truly ill."

"Well.. well..." Rhine groaned, hanging his head. They were halfway down the front court by now -- it would only take them a fifteen minute walk to get to the marketplace. Maybe once they reached the front gate he could make a run for it, or something, but then his father would know... "I.. I have a bee."

This made Madeleine stop, turn, and observe her son with one eyebrow slightly raised. "Where?" She asked bemusedly.

"In.. um..." He rubbed the back of his neck and grasped wildly for the first answer that came to his mind, "...my pants."

Cianan sighed and thumped his brother on the back. "Just buck up, Rhinny, you're only making it worse for yourself."

"Wheeeeeeeee," agreed Taji from the carriage.

"Whew! We're finally here!" exclaimed Ruth as she, Noah, and Ashe were finally at the marketplace in Gambino. "Hopefully I don't run into that woman again." said Ruth as she remembered what happened a few days ago. It seems that the market was more crowded than usual, maybe it was time for Christmas shopping? Or maybe Thanksgiving shopping, though it is too late to buy Thanksgiving decor since Christmas was just around the corner.

"Now what do we need?" Ruth said to herself as she reached down to grab the list from Noah's hand. She uncrumbled the paper and flatened it to see if it was still readable. And it wasn't. "Noah!" he whined as she let out a deep sigh. "I guess I'll just have to remember what was on the list..." Ruth started to try and remember some things in her head and lifted up a finger when she remembered.

Noah was getting bored, and so was Ashe! Noah reached for Ashe, and suprisingly, his mom let her go while she was thinking. Noah held Ashe's hand and they started to walk, or crawl, away, leaving a trial of dust behind them.

"What about these bracelets?" Rhine asked, pausing and rifling through an open display of them as they passed a stall. He never figured out what the whole appeal in shopping was -- especially when it was so much easier to do it online with no wait or other people who rarely bathed -- and the sooner they could finish, the better.

"Mm.. Probably not." Madeleine offered her son an apologetic smile. "Especially with beads like those -- babies can chew through the strings and choke on the pieces."

"Wheeeeeee," Taji repeated happily and inappropriately, bouncing in her mother's arms. Beside her, Cianan was pushing the empty carriage along.

Which tilted over onto its side a few minutes later, thankfully missing another display table, with wheels spinning squeakily in the air. Cianan yelped and jumped back, "I think I just ran something over!"

"Awesome, roadkill!" Rhine cheered, immediately finding this more interesting than stupid chokable bracelets.

"WAHHHHHH!!" cried Ashe as someone ran over her tail. Her tail started to soak in ink and created a black puddle of ink beside her. It seems that when her tail was ran over, she got scared and let out some ink, like a squid or skunk!

Noah suddenly jerked back as he was still holding little Ashe's hands as they were trembling. "C'mon Ashe!" he exclaimed as he turned around, to find tire tracks all over her tail. "Huh? What happened?" he said as he looked up at a boy who was pushing the carriage. "Hey!" he yelled. "Why'd you hurt my sister?!"

Noah knew that Ashe wasn't his sister, but he felt like she was since he was always taking care of her. People obviously could tell that they weren't related since they didn't resemble each other at all, but Noah always wanted to be a older brother!

Noah let go of Ashe's hand, and ran up to kick the boy in the shin. "That wasn't very nice of you!"

In other news...Ruth looked around for some blankets and said to the Noah she though was there, "Do you think Ashe will like this?" she questioned as she heard silence. "Noah?" she asked again as she turned to see that her kids were missing! "Noah!? Where did you go?! Ashe?!"

She started to look around her area for her kids. Yes, Ruth thinks of Ashe as her daughter too. She started to run, and bump into a few people, again, and you would have never guessed who she reunited with. It was the old grumpy lady from before! "Uh oh..." she whispered.

"I am so sorry--!" Cianan wanted nothing more than to melt into a puddle and evaporate in the fall sun; he settled for wringing his hands and looking extremely (and genuinely) apologetic. "Is she alri--OW!"

He hopped away from the younger boy on one leg, hissing and grabbing his other, stinging leg with his hands.

"Hey!" Rhine protested, immediately lunging forward to shove Noah. His mother, a step quicker, shifted Taji in one arm and grabbed Rhine's arm as he ran past, jerking him to a stop.

"Excuse me!" Madeleine said sharply, "Step down! And hold your sister, I don't want to hear a peep out of you." Rhine grudgingly backed off, still glaring at Noah as he accepted Taji from his mother. Taji made inquisitive noises, tilting her head back to peer at the two new people upside down. The littler one made a meeee~eess!

"Excuse me," Madeleine repeated a bit more gently to the younger boy and his sister, crouching down to pick up Ashe. She pursed her lips as she inspected her for wounds -- the poor girl's tail had been caught beneath the wheels of the carriage, unfortunately, and she quickly checked for other scratches or bruises.

"My son didn't mean to harm your sister, it was very honestly an accident and I am sorry that it happened." She offered Noah a smile that was meant to be reassuring while Cianan simmered down to a good sulk in the background. "Is your mother here?"

"Aieee!" exclaimed Noah as he closed his eyes as he was just about to be hit. But nothing happened. He peeked through his tiny fingers to see that the boy's mother was scolding him! All Noah could do was giggle a little.

Madeleine, the mom of the two boys, apologized to Noah even while Ashe was still crying. She swung her arms around, as if she wanted the strange woman to let go, but she just wouldn't let go! The mom of the two boys looked over to Noah as asked him, "Is your mother here?"

Noah looked up and said, "Yeah, she's right her--...Huh?" He turned around only to find his mother was gone! "Where is she?!" he exclaimed as he kept looking around. "I thought she followed us...!" Noah started to get teary eyed as well, and he too, started to cry. Poor woman.

In the other part of the market, Ruth found herself staring right at the very plump, old woman that she ran into before. She knew that she couldn't avoid her, and the only thought that came across her mind was to run. And that's exactly what she did, but the woman was much faster than her and held her by the collar as Ruth was about to run, choking her. Ruth coughed.

"You're not getting away that easily." she said in a deep, deep voice, sounding like it belonged to a man. Ruth squeaked and turned around to find the woman's face right in front of hers. "Sorry...?" she said in a high-pitched voice. "Waita minute. Have I seen you before? the woman said with her right eyebrow almost touching her hair line.

    "Um..No?" she lied.
"Wait...I have! You ran into me the other time before too!"
"You must be confusing me with someone else!!" Ruth was now starting to sweat.
"Yes you are. I remember!" the woman's face, who we'll call Helga, Helga's face started to turn red with anger. "Ohh...you'll be getting it this time!" she yelled as she started to bring Ruth closer.

    "Eep!" squeaked Ruth.

"Oh dear..." Madeleine murmured to herself, truly perplexed with Ashe's behavior. "Calm down, little one, I don't mean to hurt you--" And, just when she thought things couldn't get any worse (and she thought she'd learned her lesson by now, having two rambunctious boys), the little boy started to cry too.

Straightening, the woman took a deep breath and mentally counted to three. It was only after she herself had calmed down that she could smile effortlessly at the two young children. "Please don't worry, we'll find your mother, okay? I'm sure she is looking for you right now."

"RieohirMUUUUU," Taji demanded, placing both feet squarely against Rhine's chest and pushing off as hard as she could, stretching out her arms and making grabby fingers at Ashe's still distant tail. This was not working, this boy was obviously not properly trained!

"Hey -- no -- OW -- stay! Down! Sit! Do anything that doesn't involve causing me bodily harm!" Distressed, he wondered just how much trouble he'd be in if he dropped her. ...This was a very hard decision.

Meanwhile, hearing a commotion everyone else was too busy to notice, Cianan (still limping pitifully a little, though truthfully his ego hurt more than his leg) wandered over to where a crowd had started to gather.

Suddenly struck by a sense of deja vu, the young boy squeezed through several ranks of people and peered curiously at the two people in the center.

Hunh. No wonder. One of the women seemed to be the same that had run into them days earlier, back when they had first wondered what to do with Taji. Also, she was apparently going to be beat up, though she clearly wanted nothing to do with the whole affair. Frowning, Cianan stepped forward, very clearly expecting all others to stop what they were doing and maybe bow down before his majesty.

"Hey, lady, what's your problem?!" He addressed the bigger one, hands on his hips and somehow managing to look down his nose at her.

All Noah could do was cry and cry since he couldn't find his mother. Even though the woman said that they would find her, he still has very worried. "I want my mommmyy!!!" tears started to roll down his face as Ashe began to calm down.

She, too, reached for the other girl, Taji. She pointed to her with her fingers and tail, but Madeleine just wouldn't listen! She tried squeezing through her tight grip, but it was useless. It left Ashe breathing for more oxygen.

It looked like Madeleine was looking over to where her son was, looking at the fight. Noah stopped crying as he heard the commotion and thought her heard his mom's voice. "Mom?" he said as he ran to the crowd. He squeezed through and found that it was his mom! "Mommy!" he exclaimed, only to be ignored. Ruth was in trouble, and blocked out any noise but the big lady's voice.

But Ruth turned her head when Cianan yelled to the woman. He started to stand up to the woman, but she didn't feel a sense of ease, she felt like someone else was going to get it!

The large woman stood up to the boy, still holding onto Ruth and said, "What do you want?" she exclaimed, "Do you want me to switch you with her?! Hmmmm?" Ruth closed her eyes once again as she didn't know what was going to happen next.

"I'd like to see you try!" Cianan huffed, "Come on, lady, are you so insecure that you have to pick on people smaller than you are? Let her go, I can take you down--"

"Why does he get to fight?" Rhine immediately protested, turning to his mother, "And I don't? Where is the fairness in this? There is none."

Madeleine only sighed in response, lowly and suffering. "Here, please take this one," she directed firmly, passing Ashe off to her younger son as well. Rhine squawked at the sudden request but had no choice but to shift Taji to one arm so he could hold the ink spirit in the other. "What am I, a baby tree?" He started to protest, but by this time Madeleine had already set off for the crowd to prevent the possible murder of her other offspring, leaving him alone with the two girls.

"Great," he muttered discontentedly, sliding down against the hard wooden side of a stall to a sitting position with both girls in his lap. He stared at them both in turn, wondering what possible hard labor he could put two little girls to work at, and finally sighed and said in a squeaky voice, raising Taji's arm to wave it at Ashe, "Thingy One, meet Thingy Two."

Cianan stood up to the large woman, and she seemed to back down, not because of the threat that was given to her, but by the crowd. She didn't like to be the center of attention.

"Fine." she said, throwing Ruth to the ground. "Just don't bump into me again!" She walked off, throwing sand into Ruth's eyes. Ruth flinched, and began to rub her eyes since there was a lack of water. Eventually, she got back up and dusted off her now dirty dress, and went over to Cianan. "Thank you son. You are very brave and courageous."

Ruth walked over, and her eyes began to widen at the sight of her two kids. "Noah?! Ashe?!" she exclaimed, running over to them. Noah was still crying, and Ruth picked him up and said, "It's okay sweetie. I'm here." she said in a reasuring tone. "Mommy?" said Noah. "Mommy! It's you!" He hugged her tightly, and Ruth replied with a kiss on the cheek. She was so caught up in hugging Noah that she didn't even notice that Ashe was with someone she didn't know.

Ashe waved back to the little star girl, whose name was supposedly Taji. Her tail started to wag very quickly and she started to smile, she didn't care if she hit Rhine at all. She leaned over to touch Taji's hands, and squealed. She was excited to get to know this Taji girl, even if they would never see each other again.

V. marked on the wall

"Tra la la~" hummed Ashe as she crawled on the carpet, dragging around her burden of a tail with her. She reached the door that led to the kitchen, but it was too high for her, and there was no one in sight. Ruth was in the kitchen, and the noise of the pots and pans prevented her from hearing Ashe's cry for help. And Noah was upstairs, playing superhero, and he heard Ashe, but chose to ignore her and to use her plea for the voice of the damsel in distress.

Ashe grunted as she looked to see if she could find another way into the kitchen. "Hmm...maybe that stool will work." she thought to herself, scanning the room. She crawled to the stool that was close to the tv, which was a few feet away from the kitchen door. She stood behind it and started to push, but it didn't budge. She tried again and she got the same results.

She tried many other things that were in the living room, and since none of them moved or could help her at all, she began making theories of how the stool "just wasn't in the mood" or the pillow "was taking a nap." So since everything that she tried failed, she decided to just sit down on the floor until she thought of something to do. But before brainstorming, she needed to use the bathroom.

So she "got up" and started to crawl to her little training potty. She sat down, moving her tail towards her, but when she did, she felt something wet. She looked down at her tiny fingers and there was black ink all over it! She also looked at the floor and the walls outside, and they were covered in black too! Ashe let out a little, "Uh-oh."

Ashe did her business and quickly got up, trying to hold her tail up, but the ink kept dripping on the ground! There was so way to stop it! She had a hard time trying to crawl without any hands since she was trying not to touch the ground. If you didn't know what she was doing, it would've looked like she was trying to be a caterpillar running from an evil spider.

She tried to keep her ink in, but it wouldn't work! She had no idea what was going on. Was it her mood? She couldn't tell since she wasn't mad anymore, but she was nervous and scared. Ashe continued to crawl on the floor and go to the safest place for her and her tail. She finally had an idea to sit on the tile since that was easier to clean up.

So she squirmed to the entrance of the house and sat down, putting her tail on her small, clean dress. She didn't care if it got onto her dress, just as long as it wasn't on the carpet. "Phew, hopefully Mommy doesn't noti-- Uh-oh..." Before she could finish her train of thought, she looked around the living room and the ink was everywhere! It was on the walls, the carpet, the furniture, and even on the pet bird that they had. And to make things even worse, Ashe could hear Ruth turning off the stove and her footsteps walking toward the door that led to the living room. Ashe needed to act fast since she didn't want to get into trouble!

So she hid herself behind the potted tree near their front door, trying not to make any noises. She heard the door open, and she heard the footsteps continue walking until they stopped at about the middle of the living room. She could hear Ruth gasp and she was ready to blow! "Who did this?! Ashe! Noah! Come down here this instant!"

It wasn't long until Noah came down and was gasping himself. He then started to defend himself and told Ruth that he was upstairs the whole time. Ruth believed him and she was now looking for the culprit, Ashe. "No no no no no no no...don't find me..." thought Ashe as she tightened up even more. She resembled a ball, and she would've never been found if it wasn't for her bright pink dress, with black stains on it.

Ruth picked her up placed her on the floor.
"Oooo you're in troublee~!" teased Noah with his tounge sticking out.
"Noah, please stop that." Ruth said as she turned back to Ashe. "Honey, why did you do that?"
Ashe stayed silent, partly because she was scared, and partly because she couldn't talk very good yet, but Ruth still asked her questions.
"Why didn't you tell me? You could have called me."
Ashe just sat there, quietly, until she finally blurted out, "I tried to! I was yelling and stuff, but you were in the kitchen and you couldn't here me and I yelled for Noah but he didn't here me either!"

Noah froze up and his eyes widened as he realized he would get in trouble too. He slowly, and quietly, walked up the stairs, hoping his mom wouldn't know. But he couldn't escape.
"Stop right there." exclaimed Ruth. "Noah, what were you doing?"
    "P-playing superhero..." he replied
"And you didn't hear your sister crying?"
"N-no...I just thought that my princess action figure was talking! I swear!"
"Noah..." she said, starting to get a little bit angry.
"Fine! I ignored her cause' I didn't want to have to deal with her!
"Noah! That's not nice of you! You have to be nice to Ashe!" she yelled as she continued on with a loud, "TIME OUT!"
"But...but I wasn't the one who marked on all of the walls!"
"But you helped! Go sit in the corner...now!" she yelled as she stared at Noah as he walked to his little "Time Out" chair. On the way there, he let out a big grunt.

Ruth turned back to Ashe and said, "I'm sorry Ashe. I should've kept the door open. If I did, then you wouldn't have made this mess, but it's okay. You don't need to worry."
Ashe sat there, very quietly, and gave a small nod. Along with that, her tail finally stopped making ink! She was happy that it did. And to help Ruth clean up, she made Ashe wear a sponge on her tail to clean the floor with as she walked around. Noah just sat in his chair and grunted the rest of the day....

A princess covered in ink? How Awful! In most cases a princess smudged with ink would be unheard of, preposterous even! But not with Ashe. Ashe is of course a princess of ink. Or so she'd like to think. Give Ashe a day fit only for a princess, and help her to feel right at home. Watch out for ink stains!

VI. upon the throne; a growth quest

The morning sun started to rise, beaming its rays onto Ashe's small crib, warming up her tiny little body. Ashe blinked twice, covering the sun out of her eyes. "Wahhh.." she exclaimed, stretching out her stubbly little arms. It was finally morning and Ashe just had a good night's sleep. She slowly got up, not aware of her surroundings, and out of nowhere came a loud BOO!

"Eeek!" cried out the little girl. Noah just giggled. He had been waiting by Ashe's crib for a few minutes, hoping to scare her, and he had succeeded.

"Gotcha!" exclaimed Noah, smiling at Ashe.
    "Humph!" replied Ashe.
"Now now Noah..." Ruth's voice started to trail off as she entered the room. "You shouldn't scare little Ashe like that. Older brothers don't scare their little sisters like that." scolded Ruth.
"Aw...Okay...I was just playing around!" Noah said, trying to defend himself.
    "It's okay, isn't it Ashe?"
Ashe just let out a deep grunt.

Ruth picked up Ashe and started to dress her and get her ready for the exciting day ahead of them. Ruth and Noah planned to suprise Ashe with a tea party, inviting stuffed animals from all around the house, from ever nook and cranny. They wanted to welcom Ashe into the family by treating her like royalty for a day. It would make a great addition to the scrapbook-in-the-works. Ashe had no clue.

Noah kept watching little Ashe as she got ready, and she seemed to be enjoying getting dressed. "Hopefully she forgot about me scaring her this morning!" thought Noah. She seemed to have forgotten -- completely.

Ruth took hold of Ashe and Noah's hand out of the pink colored room and into the hall, passing Noah's room on the way. Noah quickly closed his door, trying to hide the mess that he had created and continued to follow his Mom. Noah tried to keep his excitement in as they slowly walked down the stairs with Ashe's tail dropping down, not expecting anything at all. As they turned the corner, the whole living room and dining area was covered in pastel pink lace with elegant white furniture all around.

All of the stuffed animals were either sat near the petite children's table that was below porcelain tea cups, or on the couch near the walls. Everything was decorated, and in the middle of the room was a vintage chair that had soft cushions all around. It had been Noah's grandmother's old chair, and they were using it for Ashe's tea party.

In the chair was a small diamond (fake of course!) tiara that was small enough to fit the small head of the child. Ashe's eyes started to widen at all of the lace and frills that surrounded her. "EEEE!" she exclaimed, her tail now swinging around swiftly and vigurously, as she was stunned with joy. She started to crawl towards the curtains, then to the couches filled with animals, then to the chair in the middle of the room. "Uwaaa~" she said, eyes sparkling. She started to reach for the small tiara, and Noah ran over to pick it up and place it utop Ashe's head. It fit perfectly. A wide smile started to form across Ashe's face as Noah backed away.

It took awhile until the actual tea party since Ashe was still enthralled with this huge suprise. She was in awe of everything, but she was eventually placed in the royal chair at the small coffee table. She felt around with her small hands, messing up the tablecloth while she went. She finally reached for the porcelain cups filled with imaginary tea, and she started to sip. She didn't notice that nothing was in it, and began to play.

She started to speak words that were not understandable, confusing little Noah. He wanted to play with Ashe, but he had no idea what she was saying! But the bears and unicorns that surrounded her surely did. She smiled with joy as she began to chatter.

Suprisingly, there was no mess at all. No ink stains on the floor or wall, no broken tea set or unfluffed bears, nothing. Ashe did a very good job of not making a mess, and Ruth felt that she was really fit to be a princess. Ruth decided not to clean up just yet, and keep up the decorations for a few more days to help Ashe feel more at home. While all of this was going on, Noah just stared at Ashe and smiled. Ashe never once looked at him, but she could tell that someone was watching her and a smile always began to form just at the thought.

Once the tea party was finally over and the lights were turned off, Ashe was tucked into her crib by Ruth and Noah with a warm smile across her face. "I think we did a good job Mommy." whispered Noah. "Yeah...yeah, I think we did." replied Ruth.

"Two down," Larainne sighed as she continued her walk around town and crossed names off her list, she seemed to be going anywhere every where today to drop off all these gifts. She wiped her forehead with the back of her hand and inhaled a deep breathe of air. It felt cool as it gushed down her throat and into her lungs. I wonder how long until I reach this child's home. to escape time Lara let her mind wonder about thinking of at times nothing and sometimes everything. She had just finished mentally reciting the entire script of 'phantom of the opera' when she reached her destination.

"I hope she finds your rosy cheeks and round eyes as appealing as I did," Lara walked up to the mail box of the house, grateful that unlike the last place she visited it wasn't a giant mansion. It didn’t look like a lot was going on in the neighbourhood but looks could be deceiving so she decoded to make this a short trip. Just as before she opened the mail box and dropped both card and present into the post holding device. “I hope you like it,” Lara bite on her knuckle before leaving the area completely still not sure if the little girl would care for the golden haired doll.

In the sense of Christmas spirit, I thought might drop of a small gift for Ashe and I hope that she likes it. I’m not sure if Ashe will throw it away or let it sit in a corner but when I was her age I always loved this character and I hope that may come to love the story to.

VII. all grown up

A few months have passed since Noah first met Ashe, and the day was just like normal. Ruth and Noah had just finished cleaning up the mess from the tea party and also from all the mess Ashe made while they were cleaning up.

"Asheee~ Help clean up! You can't just sit there and watch! If I'm cleaning, then you have to too!" pouted Noah as he picked up the stuffed animals and placed them on the couch.
Ashe totally ignored Noah and kept her mind on playing with her dolls.
    "Ashe!" exclaimed Noah, "Help!'
    Ashe just sat there.
"Hmph!" grumbled Noah as he ran to his mom and whined, "Mommy! How come Ashie doesn't have to clean up?" 'Ashie' was Noah's new nickname for Ashe since he couldn't think of anything else and he thought that Ashe was way to plain.
"Don't bother her Noah. She's still learning. But I'll tell you what, when she's older, I'll make her clean up too." Ruth giggled as she said that.
"REALLY? HA! Hear that Ashe?!" he said as he heroicly turned around, pointing his index finger at the poor helpless Spirit. In his mind, he let out a evil cackle.
But Ashe still wasn't listening. It made Noah a little angry, enough for him to let out a silent, "Grr..."

Ashe was silent the whole morning, and even at lunchtime, her favorite meal of the day! With that, Noah knew that something was different! So after lunch, when Ashe crawled up to her room, Noah was right behind her. Noah added a little theme music to his investigation. He used his two hands to make the impression of a gun that was ready to strike.

When Ashe reached her room, Noah ran up to the side of the door and peeked over using a compact mirror so Ashe wouldn't see his face. It seemed that Ashe was still just sitting there, playing with her dolls. "She sure is a fan of those dolls...Maybe that's it!" Noah thought to himself as another thought came to mind, "Maybe that's it!"

Noah say by Ashe's door and waited until she walked out. When he heard the crawling of the child, he immediately ran to his room across the hall and waited until Ashe was out of sight. Noah ran to her room and quickly picked up the dolls. "Hmm...." he said as he turned and moved them around in every direction possible. "Nothing suspicious with this one." he said as he quickly went onto the next one. Noah got the same results.

"This isn't working! Why is Ashie acting so different?" he said as he held the dolls in his hands. At that moment, he heard footsteps and thought, "I guess Mom's coming up too." He said as he continued to look around the room. But something was different about the footsteps. They didn't click like Mom's. "Who's there then? A BUR-GA-LER?!" he exclaimed in his mind as he ran to hide under Ashe's crib. But he wasn't fast enough. The "bur-ga-ler" caught Noah with his head under the crib and his body sticking out.

"Noah?" said an unfamiliar voice. "What are you doing?"
"DON'T HURT ME!" yelled Noah as he immediately got out of under the crib and put his hands up in the air. "I'm ARMLESSNESS!"
But when Noah turned around to see who the criminal was, he slowly dropped his hands and gasped.

"Ashe?! Is that you?!" The girl, who strangely resembled Ashe, was standing up on two feet and was looking up at the strange boy.

"Of course it is! Who else would it be?!" perked up the girl, who was apperently not-so-little-anymore Ashe.
"But..but..how'd you grow so fast? You just went to the bathroom and then you come back and you're old! HOW SCARY! YOU CAN'T BE ASHE!" he yelled, alarming his Mom.
So Ruth came in Ashe's room to find Ashe standing up on two feet and Noah with a suprised look on his face. "Ashe! Honey! You grew! How did you grow so fast?!" she exclaimed, herself suprised.

"I've just been eating healthy," she said with a snotty attitude, "Duh! How else would I do it?"
    "Oh dear.." said Ruth.
"MOMMY! WHO IS SHE?" yelled Noah.

Ashe just stood there, with a very confused look on her face.

ii. playdate with uziri; mud pie

It had rained a few hours earlier, a fantastic rainstorm of biblical proportions. It was clear and sunny now, though, and Uziri was out playing, learning the art of mud pies. She was about to jump into a deliciously dirty puddle, ready to craft the finest pats of mud, rocks and the occasional earthworm. It was then she realized this sort of artistry needed company, and she hesitated.

"Someone come make pie with me," she shrieked. "I will share with you!"

"ICK! RAIN! I HATE RAIN!!" exclaimed Ashe, trying to take out all the wet-ness and leaves from beautiful hair, but it proved to be very difficult. "UGH!" she exclaimed as she was on her way home.

"I hate when it gets all rainy when I'm ready to play!" she whined as she passed a very strange sight. She looked over her shoulder and saw a strange looking girl playing in the mud. It was all over her and you couldn't even see her probably-not-so-great skin! "What is she doing? That's so gross! Who would want to play in MUD?" she though, trying to hid her face from the very disturbing sight. "Please don't see me, please don't see me..." she whispered under her breath.

Unfortunately for Ashe, Uziri spotted her.

"YOU!" she called, pointing blatantly. "Come here! I will make pies and be friends with you. We can play in mud!"

And with that, Uziri jumped into the air and landed in the puddled with a showering splash, delighting in the squelch of mud under her bare feet.

"I am Uziri," she said, every word carefully enunciated so she wouldn't speak too fast and get her language jumbled. "Who are you and why do you have a tail."

"ME?! WHY?" she exclaimed, still distrubed at the though of playing in the mud with a strange strange girl. "Why'd she choose me?!" she thought to herself, strangly staring at the girl who almost got mud on her. "HEY WATCH IT!" she snapped back.

"WELL, I'm....Ashe. And why do I have a tail?" she liked to add emphasis on some of her words, trying to make this Uziri, or whatever her name was, to get the fact that she didn't want to play. "IT'S ONLY BECAUSE I'M SPECIAL! IT'S ALSO CUZ I HAVE POWERS!" Once again, Ashe began to brag about herself, ruining another friendship that could have happened.

But eventually, Ashe settled down and just decided to play with the girl, but would do something, she didn't know what yet, if any of the mud got in her hair. "OKAY, I'll play with you. What do you want to do?"

"Because you are here!" Uziri said, rolling her eyes. She shifted in the puddle, enjoying the suction sounds she made. At the girl's explanation, Uziri nodded in interest.

"I have ten-ta-cles," she said, waving to Ashe with four of them at once. "I am special too. And I like your name. It starts with A, thass my fav-rite letter."

At Ashe's question, Zee's face brightened and she smiled widely. She bent down, scooped up a handful of mud and puddle water, and showed it off.

"I was going to make pie," she said, letting the mud dribble through her fingers, "But I don't wanna do tha' anymore. Let's play Lake Monsters from the Black Swamp behind the Lagoon."

"..MONSTERS..?! I hate monsters....and mud! I don't want to play anymore! GROSS!" Ashe whined as she started to back away from Uziri.

She did appreciate the compliments that she received from the strange...tentacle-girl!

"I'd much rather bake a REAL pie. Want to come to my house instead of playing in this icky mud? We can bake a apple pie...no PEACH pie there! I'm sure Mommy would let you!" she said with a weary smile.

"Gross?" Uziri asked, face falling. What did Ashe mean, gross? Mud was the best thing in the history of forever. At the girl's invitation, Uziri thought it over. Her dad wouldn't know where she was, she'd be going off with a total stranger to a house who-knew-where, to make and eat possibly poisonous food.

    Hmm. Sounded fun.

"I would like that," she said, nodding hard. "I do not know what peach is, but I bet it is good in pie."

"Okay then! LET'S GO!" Ashe exclaimed, tugging on Uziri's jacket, leading the way to her house.

When they got there, she immediately started to wipe her shoes off on the rug, and commanded Uziri to do so too. There wasn't anything in the world that was worse than...DIRT!

So when Ashe got home, she yelled to her mom, "MOM! I brought a friend over! We're gonna bake a pie! Can you get out all the ingredients pleaseee?!" Soon after, Ruth rushed in and smiled at the girl, "Hello there! I'm Ashe's mom. Who might you be?"

Uziri copied Ashe for the lark of it, bare feet scraped half-way clean on the rug. She watched the other girl with pure fascination, like a scientist observing an interesting new species of acid-spewing spider. She blinked, and looked up at Ashe's mother-creature.

"I am muddy," she said clearly. "And Uziri. Hi."

She inclined her head gravely, the glowing necklace of skulls clinking cheerfully as she moved.

Ruth smiled at the young girl and said, "Oh! Very pretty name!" But as she said that, she quickly glanced at the skull necklace and thought to herself, "Interesting...just who is Ashe making friends with these days?"

Ruth caught herself deep in thought when the two children were staring blankly at her. "OH! I'm sorry! Yes, I will get out the ingredients! Peach or Apple?"

    "Peach! No...strawberry!" Ashe yelled!
"Okay." Her mom replied "Go get cleaned up, you two, before baking! Also Ashe, sweetie, can you call Noah down?"
"Sure! NOAH!" she yelled, pulling Uziri up the stairs and walking into the bathroom. As they entered the room, she thought of a great idea, "LET'S GIVE YOU A MAKEOVER!"

"My Da named me," Uziri said seriously. "He said a voice in his head said to...said to name me my name. So he did."

Allowing herself to be pulled, Uziri waved to Ashe's mom-creature before blinking in confusion.

"A make-over?" she asked. "Do you mean, make me un-alive? And then restarted?"

She blinked again then, belatedly curious.

    "What is a noah?"

"A makeover! It's when I fix you up! Like your hair and clothes and stuff! It's always fun!" Ashe said with a wide smile on her face. "Here! Let me start!" she said as she started to pull off Uziri's hood.

She started to take strands of hair and split them apart, forming two pigtails, and from there she made them into braids. As she was fixing up her hair, she said, "Oh Noah? He's my stinky older brother."

And Noah, who just happened to pass right in front of the bathroom snapped back, "Hey! I heard that!"

Uziri sat quietly, shedding her hoodie and submitting to Ashe's care with her eyes wide and watchful sidelong. The eyes of the skulls pulsed gently, red light sending small spots of coloring dancing on the walls.

"I am sorry your noah is stinky," she said, glancing at the new creature. "Hello, Ashe's noah."

"Who are you7?" questioned Noah. "You're scary." He said as he slowly walked away.

"Gah, don't mind him Uziri. He's just jeallouss!" Ashe teased.

Minutes passed and Ashe was almost done. She had to run to her room multiple times since most of her clothes didn't fit the girl, so she had to try different things, but she found the perfect outfit for Uziri!

"You look soooo cute!" Ashe exclaimed, forcefully turning her torwards the mirror. "SEE?"

Uziri preened a bit, smiling. She was scary?

"Thank you," she said to the noah-creature. "You're very nice."

She glanced at Ashe then, expression questioning.

"He is made of jelly?" she asked, awestruck. "Does he taste like peach?"

She bit back a surprised yelp as Ashe forcibly changed her clothes, and stumbled a bit on her way to the mirror. She stared at her reflection in astonishment, skulls glowing erratically. She looked....poofy. And frilly. And prissy, and not at all like herself. She hesitated, knowing she should say something for fear of offending Ashe after all her hard work. She tugged on a pigtail meditatively.

"I look like you," she said finally. There, that was a compliment if she'd ever heard one, wasn't it?

"I'm not sure...I never tasted him before...and I don't think I want to! GROSS!" Ashe exclaimed, cringing at the though.

After Uziri looked at her own reflection, her expression told Ashe that she didn't like it, but what she said made her feel better, even though it was a lie. Ashe didn't care. She just cared for the compliment.

"I KNOW! Isn't that the best part?! We could be twins...but I would be the better looking one of course!" Ashe let out a evil-mastermind-like laugh, but it ended up sounding like a dying cat.

Ashe continued to add clips in her hair, but soon after Ashe's mom called the kids, "Ashe! Uziri! The kitchen's ready to bake a strawberry pie!"

"OKAY~!" Ashe yelled back tugging on Uziri's dress. "Let's go!"

"No," Uziri said reasonably. "I s'pose not. If I had a noah I would not like to taste him either. Maybe he would bite."

Glad Ashe hadn't been offended - really, Uziri would rather have preferred to keep her non-frilly clothes on, but what were you gonna do - she smiled at the 'twin' comment.

"I have a sister," she said. "She looks just like me, but she has spots. You would be...um....our twin too? And prettier?"

It sounded reasonable enough. She brightened at the mention of pie, and allowed herself to be tugged around again.

    "Coming!"

At the statement of Uziri having another twin, Ashe got ever more excited that she already was, "SO WE COULD BE TRIPLETS THEN! I could also makeover your other sister too! And it must be horrible to have spots! Is she a animal?"

By the time Ashe was done talking, they were already in the kitchen. Everything was laid out on the counter and the pie was just waiting to be made!

"OKAY, mom, what do we do first?" Ashe asked, pulling on her mom's dress.
"First, you need to combine the sugar with the strawberries..." Ruth said, showing the recipe to her daughter.

Strawberry Pie Recipe
Fresh Strawberry Pie

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 pound strawberries, washed, hulled, and sliced
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 2 tablespoons plus 1 teaspoon cornstarch

Combine sugar and strawberries; let stand for a few hours, until juicy. Drain juices off; transfer to saucepan, and bring to a boil. Mix together the water, butter, and cornstarch. Add to the strawberry juice mixture; continue cooking, covered, over low heat for 2 minutes. Cool slightly and stir in strawberries. Pour into baked pie shell; chill thoroughly. Top with whipped cream topping or purchased whipped topping. Keep leftovers covered, in refrigerator.

"Sounds easy!" exclaimed Ashe as she tried to follow the directions as best as she could. "Okay, here Uziri. You smash the strawberries!" Ashe said as she handed the container filled with strawberries to her new friend.

"I like her spots," Uziri said rather defensively. "She's not a amimal. She's a Irizu. I bet she would like dresses and things, though..."

She trailed of, peering in awe at the assembled ingredients and reading over Ashe's shoulder to see the recipe.

"I can't read," she said proudly. "But it looks yummy. And also good."

She took the strawberries obligingly, and her face brightened.

"I will make them into goo," she told Ashe importantly. She took the nearest tool at hand - a tablespoon - and began a campaign of strawberry-crushing. She sang tunelessly while she worked, a splatter of strawberry spitting out of the bowl and striking her on the face. She giggled and licked it off, humming.

"You're doing a great job Uziri!" complimented both Ruth and Ashe.

About an hour later, they were all done. The pie was put together and it was ready to be baked!
"OKAY! WE'RE DONE! Let's go play while we're waiting!" Ashe suggested as she started to run up stairs to get some dolls.
She quickly came back with her hands full of toys. She walked to the living room and put all the toys down.

"Let's play!" she exclaimed.

Uziri grinned widely, deeply pleased with herself as another splatter of strawberry went flying.

---

Following Ashe willingly, Uziri leaped up into the air, crossed her legs, and fell to the floor with a satisfying thump. She looked at the dolls uncertainly, but then sucked it up and picked one up.

"I am Princess Yorgoth," she intoned, "Queen of the evil city Fuu-a-Boo...zah. Fuuaboozah! Gimme souls so I may liiiiive beyond th' graaaaave...."

"Heyyy! That's not how you're supposed to play! They're supposed to have pretty names! Why not name it Uziri, after you?!" Ashe said.

But a few minutes passed and she realized that it was really boring playing with dolls so she suggested, "Let's play hide-n-seek! I'll count first!"

Uziri tilted her head to one side.

"But I am not a doll," she said reasonably. Hmm. Ashe was a strange one, that was for sure. At the new suggestion, she nodded hard.

"Okee. I will hide," she said, jumping up and skittering off. Where to hide, where to hide...tendrils of her shadow-aura poked out from under the dress and through the sleeves and collar and she grinned, looking up. Hmm. No chandeliers to hang off of...drat. There went that idea.

"Hmm..."

Ashe ran into the kitchen and closed her eyes, covering them with her hands to resist the urge to peek. "Ima count to 30!" she said as she started to count

"1...2...3...4..."

Resisting the urge to ask if thirty came before or after seven, Uziri raced around, eyes peeled for a decent hiding spot. The closet? No, too obvious. Garbage can? Hmm....perfectly stinky and most likely filled with slimy, delightful things, but she was wearing Ashe's clothes...

Argh, where to go?

She ran in circles before coming to a skidding stop, eyes wide. Ah HA. Perfect. Backing up a couple steps, Uziri dove and went across the floor like a baseball player sliding home, and gracefully slid under the couch.

Ashe continued, "27...28...29...30!" she exclaimed, adding, "READY OR NOT, HERE I COME!"

Ashe raced around the house, looking under everything that was able to be looked under. She would also say to herself, "Not there!'

She looked in the closet. Nope
In the garbage can. Ew, nope
She looked in the garage. Nope
She looked everywhere she could think of, even in the fish tank. Nope

"WHERE IS SHE?!" she exclaimed. But there was one hiding spot that came to mind, but she just couldn't think of what it was. But she knew that Uziri was hiding there. "What was that place called again? It's really dirty...and gross...and brown...the MUD!" she exclaimed as she ran out of the front door and ran to park across the street. It was extra muddy and filled with gross, brown goo.

"UZIRI! I found you!" she exclaimed, cannon-balling into the mud puddle, the mud splattering anywhere and everywhere, especially on Ashe. She continued to search in the mud for any thing hard. And when she finally touched something that felt like a arm, she exclaimed to the world, "AH-HA! GOTCHA!" she exclamed, bringing her hand up, but to her suprise, it was only her favorite princess doll. "ALICE! How'd you get there?! I thought you were Uziri!" she said as she had a crushed expression on her face. "Now I'm all muddy. I hate this game!" she said, walking into the house and putting Alice on the stairs.

By the time Ashe came back from her venture in the mud puddle, Uziri had dozed off, only to inhale a dust bunny and sneeze herself awake again.

"Ah-WHOOOOF," she said, rolling out from under the couch and wiping her nose on a shadow-aura tendril. She caught sight of Ashe covered head to toe in mud and gave a delighted shriek, scrambling over and grabbing hold of the other girl's hands, bouncing in exuberance.

"You went in th' mud!" she said, beaming. "Wasn't it nice? It's all slimy an' gooey, it's like choc-late syr....syr-up, 'cept you can't eat it, 'cause thass kinda gross!"

"MUD?! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! I WAS NOT IN THE MU--" Ashe exclaimed, only to look down and find herself covered in mud. "AHHH!" she screamed, running to the bathroom. She was covered in it. From head to toe.

"EWWW!!" she exclaimed. "I'M ALL...MUDDY NOW!"

But the 'Bing,' from the oven, stopped her from all of her yelling.

"OH! The pies done!" she said happily, running to the kitchen, waiting until Ruth took it out.

Uziri raced after, laughing.

"Innit tha' the point?" she asked, grinning. At the sound of the 'bing!', she jolted, startled, and looked around. What the heck had that been?

"Pies go 'bing' when they're done?" she asked Ashe, running closely behind her again.

"Yup! The strawberries in the pie make the 'ping' noise because of all the electrical waves the sugary goodness sends to the oven thing! It's all purely scientific fact. Well, that's what Noah says at least." she explained while waiting for Ruth to take out the pie.

Ruth opened the oven and the sweet scent filled Ashe's nose. "MMMM~ YUM!" she said.
And right then, Noah came sprinting down, also excited for pie. "I WANT SOME TOO MOMMY!" he yelled as Ruth started to add whip cream on top.

"We need to wait before it cools." Ashe's mom said, pushing the kids back so they wouldn't get burned. She continued, "Let's get you washed up before you eat, Ashe sweetie. You're a mess!"
"Yeaaa! Dirty and gross! Yuck!" teased Noah, sticking out his tounge and pointing his fingers at Ashe.
"Okay! Sounds good. I can't enjoy a yummy pie all dirty! C'mon Uziri, lets go change!"

"I did not know that," Zee said, looking astounded. "I thought they only went 'sploosh' when you squish them."

She'd definitely have to pay closer attention to her food from now on. Who knew what kinds of sounds something like a potato could make? Chewing on her fingers, stomach growling at the sight of the glorious pinging pie, she made a regretful sounds as Ashe dragged her off again. Clean? Who cared about being clean, there was pie at stake here!

"I'm comin'!"

About an hour passed and the pie was almost done. Ashe had around three pieces of the delicious, strawberry pie. "MMMM. YUMMY! THAT WAS SO GOOD! I love eating pie when I'm all clean and pretty!" Ashe said, rocking back and forth in her chair with a fork in her hand. "Can I have another piece Momma?" she asked.

"No sweetie, we need to save some for later! And you're already had three." Ruth replied while putting plastic wrap over the pie and placing it into the fridge. "And it's getting late, I think its time for us to clean up."

Ashe whined as she got out of her chair and put her plate on the sink counter. "I guess you have to leave then, Uziri..." she said with a frown. "I REEAAALLLYYYYY had fun today tho! The mud was okay...so was hide-and-seek! I'm glad that I met you!" exclaimed the girl as she walked to the door. "We'd better play again soon!"

iii. playdate with shayla; adoption day

    Adoption day.

Shayla was practically tugging Jason's hand as she ran towards the large white building. It was the local Gaia ASPCA, taking in the stray animals and adopting out to loving families. Somehow, though he didn't know how it happened, Shayla had convinced him to get a pet. It couldn't hurt.... Right?

"Daaaaaaddy! HURRY!" Shayla grunted, able to see the doors to the building and yet they were so far from it! Why did he have to walk so slow?!

Jason only chuckled. "Shalya, there isn't a need to rush. There will be plenty of animals in side. Just no dogs."

Shayla grinned, already having her heart set on a kitten. Or maybe a bunny. A turtle could be neat.... NO! It has to be a kitten. Looking up at her father she just gave a nod. "Oooookie Daaaddy! No doggie. But I wants a cute kitty!"

Jason smiled. A cat he'd agree with.. They were much more independent thank a dog and wouldn't leave little piles of coiled joy in the back yard. His mother would surely kill him for that one. Finally inside the building, Jaosn released his hold on Shayla's hand.

Feeling the release, the small child shot off towards the large sign that read "Small Animals." Surely kittens would be in that room right? But she was rushing so fast she didn't even see the other girl she bumped into. Stumbling backwards, she fell upon her bottom and sniffled a bit.

"BUNNY BUNNY BUNNY BUNNY BUMMY BUM--...That's not right is it?" Ashe questioned as her voice started to become coarse from yelling '"BUNNY" ever since they left the house. Ruth decided that they wanted a pet, so she asked both Noah and Ashe. Noah wanted a super dog, but Ashe wanted a bunny, and her screams overuled all other possibilites.

So they were on their way to the Gaia pet adoption agency, or ASPCA, to find a bunny. They chose one from the ASPCA since they would rather have a lost bunny than a found one! Well Ashe did at least. She thought that she could teach the lost one the ways of being royalty!

When they reached the ASPCA, they both greeted the receptionist at the front desk, and started to walk towards the sign that read, "Small Animals. But on their way there, Ashe bumped into another girl.

"OWIE!" Ashe exclaimed as she too fell to the ground. "What was that for?!" she yelled at the other girl. "Ashe! Are you okay?!" exclaimed Ruth. Her mom quickly helped her up and started to dust off her dress. "Sorry about that." she said to the father of the other little girl.

Hearing the girl, Shayla turned towards her. Her eyes all but narrowed when this girl accused her of being at fault. As if she had just done that on purpose! Her bum hurt too! Opening her mouth to say something, she was silenced before a word could be muttered by her father's hand. Jason stood over her, looking up at the mother and smiling. "Oh... It's quite alright.... Shayla here just is excited is all..." He explained, helping his girl up to her feet.

Wiggling free from his grasp, Shayla dusted off her shorts before fixing Ashe with a cold stare. "I'm here for a kitty. I'm gunna get the cutest and bestest one," she paused, noting the look from her father. It was that look that told her to drop the attitude quickly before she was punished. So, she forced a smile and continued, "What are you here for?"

Once the girl, Shayla, asked Ashe about what animal she was looking for, she immediately broke into a high pitched scream. She started to yell, "BUNNY!" all over the adoption center, disrupting most of the other visitors and animals.

"I really want a bunny! BUT kitties are cute too! I would get one....BUT Noah, my older brother, unfortunately, is allergic so I'm stuck with a bunny! But those are just as cute! BUT why are you going to the small animals section when kitties are much, much, MUCH bigger?"

"A bunny..." Well those were cute to.. But a kitty. Yep, her heart was definatly set on a kitty. "And Noooooooo." She dragged out, turning to walk into the small animal room ahead of her father. "Kitties are small to. They have small doggies to, but doggies are much bigger than kitties. A tiger is a big kitty but Daddy said I can't have a tiger." She explained, throwing her hands in the air as if devastated by that fact. "Buuuuut. I'm gunna get me a kitty that's striped like a tiger. A mini tiger! It'll be so AWESOME!" She cheered, jumping a bit in her excitement.

"Tigers are scary....YOU SHOULD GET A PINK ONE! Is there such a thing?! I want a pinky bunny. Just like in cartoons! They're soooooo cute!" Ashe said, screaming at the idea.

"Mommy! Can we find a PINK rabbit?! It would match so well with my room! And then I can put hearts on it too! And name it...PANCAKES! YAY! I LOOOVE PANCAKES!"
"Whatever you want sweetie, but I think putting hearts on it is a little inhumane...especially to these poor little rabbits." Ruth said, trying to bring Ashe down as gently as she could.

"OKAY...FINE..But can we go find a rabbit now? And a kitty too? For Shayla I mean!"
Ruth gave Ashe a smile and a nod, and once she said 'Sure,' Ashe was off into the long corridor, bringing Shayla along. "Let's go bring animals home!"

"Oh dear..." Ruth added, looking to Jason, "I think we should follow them."

Jason smiled as he watched their two kids. Yeah, Shayla surely was making a lot of friends lately. Though could this girl be considered a friend yet, that would be explained later. Giving a nod to the woman, he followed after the two of them.

Shayla just giggled a bit, "Cartoons are stooooopid! I dun watch those. N there are no pink bunnies! Does aren't real. Only Easter bunnies are pink." She stated, giving the other a little look before she smiled. This ones surely was weird.

"I wan-" she stopped, speaking and walking. It was abrupt and her eyes were on a room labeled 'cats.' Oh how she wanted to go in. But... Should they get the bunny first? She bit her lip in thought before looking at the other girl. Of course they couldn't keep bunnies and kitties in the same room. That was just ridiculous!

Staring at Ashe, the frost girl obviously looked as if she had an internal dilemma, because she did. Oh what to do.

"NOO cartoons are so real! I see purple whales and pink bunnies all the time! BUT if only Easter bunnies are pink, then I'll get a Easter bunny!" Ashe said proudly, nodding at her own personal statement, like she accomplshed something.

When they finally reached the end of the corridor, they saw two other corridors. One on the left and one on the right. One door read 'Rabbits,' and the other 'Cats.' Which should they go in? It was a hard decision because they couldn't go in together! And Ashe really liked Shayla!

"Hmm..." Ashe thought. "Let's look at the kitties first! That way, we can both look for the tiger kitty! Cuz four eyes are better than two!" Ashe took Shayla by the hand and led her into the cat door.

Once again, Ruth and Jason were left to follow the youngsters.

"You can't have the Easter Bunny 'case then he wouldn't give da kids candy!" Huffing, she glanced between the doors again, putting her hands upon her hips.

But Shayla grinned a bit as the other girl said kitty first. Score! Now they had more time to find that most perfectest kitty! Quickly she grabbed Ashe's hand before bolting to the door. "Let's hurry then!"

    Though....

The moment she got to the door, she realized she couldn't reach the handle. She waited until Jason came and opened it for them, allowing the three women in before he followed.

Shayla giggled and moved to the area with the kittens, glancing around a bit. "Now it's gotta be cute and have stripes. Like a tiger!"

"Then I'll have the Easter bunny's babies!" Ashe said as she was lead into the room.

"Thankee Jason!" she said when Jason opened the door since the handle was too high.

Ashe nodded at the details that Shayla gave to her and started to look into the cages saying, "Nope not that one," when she came across kittens that didn't fit the description that was given to her.

"Hm...This is hard Shay-!" Ashe said, but she was immediately cut off when she saw the perfect kitten! It was cute AND had stripes! "LOOKIE HERE SHAY!" she exclaimed, pointing to the kitten and jumping up and down wildly.

She could hear Ashe off on the other side of the room turning down every cat. She was right, it was going lots faster with two people looking for the perfect kitten. Soon enough, she was echoing Ashe, "no... No... nope... Not good... nope." She finished the whole bottom row of cages and frowned in disappointment. Where was that perfect kitten?

Just before she was able to ask Ashe if she was having any luck, the other girl started to yell. Smiling brightly, she rushed over to take a peek inside. And, there it was. The most perfectest kitten right down to the T.

"AAAAW! It's PERFECT!" She screamed, startling not only the kitten inside the cage but other families inside the room. Doing a small happy jump, she turned and ran to latch onto her father's leg. "Daddy daddy daddy daddy, pleeeeeease! Can I get that one pleeeeease!" There really was no way the man could say no.

Grinning, Jason nodded and pat the top of Shayla's head. "Of course... Now why don't you go with your friend to find a bunny while I go take care of paper work? It is only fair after all since she helped you."

Nodding, Shayla bolted for Ashe once more and smiled big time. "let's go find youa bunny! It'll be the most perfectest bunny too! I'm gunna help!"

"IT IS CUTE!!! But it has no feet! Scary!" Ashe said, starting to cry a little, "It's so sad too!"

But before she started to wail, Shayla sprinted out of the room and ran for the bunnies, calling Ashe to follow along, and there was no way that Ashe could refuse!

"OKAY, my bunny NEEDS to be pink. Okay? Got that? It has to be cute...of course, with looongg floppy ears!" Ashe explained, just imagining the perfect bunny in her mind. It had to be exactly like Ashe wanted, or else she be the stubborn girl she is, and not choose one.

They finally got to the room filled with rabbits, and Ashe could just smell the sweet aroma of rabbits! She ignored the other smell. "HMM..let's see! Any pink rabbits? Hmmm..." she said, scratching her head while peering through all the cages, both high and low.

Shayla helped of course, moving about near the other cages. Nope, those weren't bunnies... Nor those... She didn't know what some of these were. They looked like mice with no tails. Huffing, she went around and found a spot with bunnies but... no pink ones.

"Saaaaay." She looked over at Ashe and frowned. "I dun think dare are pink bunnies... But da white one over heres got pink eyes?" Well red eyes, but it was still cute and white and fluffy.

"HM, let me look at it!" said Ashe, walking to where Shayla was. "Hmmm..!" she said again, now inspecting it. "I THINK ITS POIFECT! It'll match well with the majority of my outfits..." she said, running to Ruth who just walked in.

"Mommy! I want this rabbit!" Ashe said pointing to the one she wanted. "It's soooo CUTE!" she said squealing at the thought of cuddling it.
"Okay, okay, we'll get that one then! I like it too!" Ruth said with a giant smile across her face. "Let me fill out this paperwork and we're free to take it home!"

    "...YIPEE!"

Shayla giggled as she smiled happily at Ashe. They had both found each other a wonderful pet it seemed. Gently she reached out to tug at Ashe's sleeve, giving her that big grin. "Some day we gotta play togeter with our new pets! It wouuld be fuuuun! Doncha think!?"

"YES! I TOTALLY THINK SO TOO!" agreed Ashe, holding her new bunny. "We should go play soon! Well, once I potty train her!"

Ashe smiled and looked up to her mom, "Shayla can come over some time right?"
    "Sure." she replied.
    "YAY!"
"Well, it's time for us to go Ashe!" Ruth said, putting her hands upon her daughter's shoulders.
"Awww okay! See you soon Shay!" she said, giving her a big hug and waving as she walked away with Pancakes. "Me and Pancakes will miss you!"

As a spirit of ink, Ashe can be quite a handful. And as she grows, she's only going to become moreso! Ashe is growing up, and while this might be a bit suprising, it's certainly not as suprising as her new "abilities". What has happened to cause Ashe's abilities to start to show, and how does this effect her? How does it effect you?

(Please be aware that these abilities are very limited and not easily controlled. As a child they will be noticable, but not as extreme as they will be as she ages. Please also choose only one ability to focus on. She will have one main ability and up to three sub-abilities as she gets to teen and youth.)
