Lorika accepted the cookie; a "thanks" was not needed, being one of those mutually understood things between best friends. Besides, she was preoccupied with thought. "What about...fake people?" She wondered out loud. "Like...characters. People in stories who never existed, but have a detailed enough account of their 'life' for a reconstruction of memories; it is memories that make a mind, after all, other than the hardware." She paused to consider her own ideas, decided it was good and safe enough, then continued. "If you mess up, well, they never existed to begin with, so you wouldn't be destroying anything more than what they already 'have'." The frown threatened to return once again as she chewed on the cookie; why did this sound...not right? Surely logic proves otherwise...

"Like Snow White?" Mare questioned, look at her friend with large eyes over the cookie. "Where would I find her? There aren't any woods around here, and I don't know any dwarves anyway..." She seemed to puzzle over this idea for a moment as she chewed thoughtfully on her snack. But those were just stories, weren't they? And what if she messed up? How would she get memories of a fictional life that never happened?

It was almost enough to make a girl cry, it was, so she stopped thinking about it. "What d'you wanna do for dinner? I'll cook, 'cause I'm the scientist now and cooking is like science only not."

"'like science only not'?" Lorika repeated in amusement. "Seriously, I don't know how your thought process works, and I don't plan on finding out." She took the last bite of cookie and clapped her hands together to clean off the crumbs. "Now there's a project worth studying: How Mare's Brain Works," she teased half-heartedly, mind still elsewhere.

"Well...do you remember what happened in Wonderland with that rabbit?" She pressed on the previous subject, not ready to let it slide away just yet. "And you know how there are books here on Gaia about Wonderland, only it is merely thought of as a place that didn't exist? Many worlds are connected this way, through stoies that no one ever thought of as real. It should be enough to just take the data from the book, or movie, or whatever, and reconstruct memories that way; those are usually fairly accurate accounts, and the things not mentioned in the original media will usually be revealed during the process, one way or another." She paused there, to make sure that Mare understood the entire thing. A fat load of good it'll do if she lost her friend half way through.

"I'm not a project!" Mare cried, greatly offended. But she ceased her protests temporarily to listen to her best friend's explanation of her idea. Wonderland... the rabbit.... books on Gaia about Wonderland, h'okay. She followed. But then somehow Lorika got into taking data from books or movies or something so confusing. "...English?" she asked, looking at the other girl blankly as she looked for something to make for dinner. "I'm not really smart like you, Lori, please e'splain in words I can understand?"

Just the reaction Lorika'd expect from her friend. "Alright, recap. Basically, you can take the information on a certain 'person,' such as Snow White, from a book," she laid her palms out in front of her for emphasis, "and use those information to re-construct a complete map of Snow White's memories." A pause to let it sink in. "And because all memories of the same person, real or no, reconstructed or original, are connected to one another like links in a chain, bringing up these 'fake memories' will pull out more things that were not mentioned in the book. The process will work, because all memories, except in very special cases, have ties to darkness. And by using darkness and those initial memories you have reconstructed, you can get the whole picture." No need to mention the risks; they've tampered with darkness often enough, Mare should know the risks, do's, and don'ts by now. "This is a bit complicated, but it's alot easier than constructing a completely new set of memories in order to capture a conciousness."

Mare nodded. This was a good way of explaining, and as she filled a pan with water, she nodded and made assenting noises. "So I just read the books and assemble what the person would remember, and then-" she paused, having had a thought. "But where would I put the memories? They don't have bodies, Lori, they're just stories, aren't they?" She set the pan of water on the burner, then set her hand on the other.

"Ow." She'd burned her hand. "Wrong burner, oops." She switched the pan over, then moved back to the sink to run her hand under the water. "...Maybe I could borrow a body from the darkness?" she said uncertainly. "Do you think it would mind?"

"Here, Mare," Lorika stretched out her hand toward her friend's injured one. "Lemme heal that; no telling what kind of nasty infection might find its way in there at work." She thought about it for a moment; the darkness is not exactly nice and giving, but it can be negotiated with. "Sure," she shrugged, "I don't see a problem with it, so long as you don't abuse it. The darkness has been known to be rather spiteful." Yeah, like half the worlds that have a problem with it have done something bad to it to begin with. "just be careful with it, watch the sentimental stuff, don't tred on anyone's toes, and things should work out fine. Of course, I wonder how Doctor Sychko will feel about you working withsuch things, but we'll have to wait for that one."

Mare allowed her hand to be taken from under the water, smiling when the stinging went away. "Work is sterile, though. That means no infections." She paused, absorbing Lorika's opinion. "S'okay, so there's a theory." She smiled and pulled her friend in for another hug. "So how was your day, Lori? Did you have fun?"

"Accidents happen," Lorika stated simply. Fun?! You gotta be kidding me... "What, you think I have more fun with those nutcases than with you? Not a chance, dear," she replied, gladly accepting the hug. "Work's work, and I don't have any bright ideas like you do to apply for my own project." Yeah, because there'd be no point in searching for answers you already know, she thought, smirking at the pure "poetic-ness" of it.

"Hey, did my PS3 get here yet? I didn't see a package down at the front, but maybe you've picked it up already?"

Mare shook her head, though she smiled. 'Course she was more fun than Lori's nutcases. She was a best friend! They were always the best fun, 'cause that was in their name and all. "No, but I checked to see where it was and it should be here tomorrow, Lori." She paused, scratching at a mosquito bite on her arm. "I'm allowed to play too, right?" The brunette utilized her secret technique number four, also known as 'puppy-dog-eyes'.

"Are you gonna get the new Kingdom Hearts game, Lori?"

Lorika didn't exactly melt over the puppy face, but she petted her best friend's head anyways. "Come on, now, I've told you before, I have active immunity to that. And besides, it'll look a whole lot better on a six-year-old." She tapped Mare's nose in mock-scolding. "Of course I'll let you play, but you've got to be good! We've talked about this. Button mashing is fine, it helps you stay alive in DoA and all, but NO excessive controller abusing."

She thought about the second question for a moment; then it came. Kingdom Hearts. So THAT's where she heard about Riku, minus the itty bits she learned in the actual world. "You haven't even played that series; why ask about it all of a sudden?" Lorika mused. "Anyways, it's not exactly 'new' anymore. Been out a few months. But, yeah, I'll be getting it soon, just for the heck of it." Yeah, after she already knew all the important things that're to happen. "But I'm not letting you play the second one until you've finished the other two! You'll just get hopelessly lost in the Prologue if you just go on with it."

Mare's face fell. "But I'un wanna!" she whined, pulling on her hair in a dramtic fashion. "It'll take so long and you won't help me past all the hard parts!" Whether Lorika knew it or not, Mare had once made an honest attempt at playing the original Kingdom Hearts. She'd made it all the way to Wonderland and then her head had just said, No, we're done. And Mare didn't like to argue with her own head, it made her feel silly.

"Can I watch you play, then?" She put pasta in the pan quickly, then turned back to her friend and wrinkled her nose. "'cause I wanna see what happens to Axel!" Computers shared so many things with her that she shouldn't know.

"Well, I tried to!" Lorika replied in her own defense. It's not exactly hard to see why Mare never got past anything important. Heck, she probably won't even remember enough to figure out the password to DiZ's computer. No wonder she didn't realize Riku's significance.

"Ok fine, you can watch, but try not to give any 'advice' on where to go next?" It was hard to tell whether Lorika was merely teasing or been serious. It's quite hard to get lost in KHII, perhaps maybe in the Underworld if you're disoriented. But Mare'll find a way to get lost in Yen Sid's tower, no doubt. "We'll have to wait for the PS3 to get here, at least. I was silly enough to bring over my whole collection and forgot the PS2 back on Misleh's ship. Remind me to go pick it up sometime; I want food, at this moment." In times of peace, food goes before anything. That's a given.

Mare sniffed. It wasn't like she didn't know how everything went, she'd watched Lorika play through Kingdom Hearts and had read some summaries of Chain of Memories. And she really, really liked Axel and Zexion. "I give good advice sometimes! You'd've never found that last group of puppies if not for me." She turned back to the pot of pasta, stirring and sulking all at the same time. What a wonderful multi-tasker she was, teehee. She grinned.

"Is pasta," she said, dropping grammar for the moment as she peered at the instructions for the pasta sauce-in-a-can. "S'okay, right?"

"Key word: sometimes," Lorika replied smoothly, not faltering for a moment. She decided not to push the argument further, been that, well, it's Mare right there. If she got mad, she'll go all pouty-face for a week and then they'll have to do something to compensate. "But that was a really good one with the puppies right there," she agreed, hoping it'll be enough to satisfy Mare for now.

"Yep, pasta's good." She hopped off the counter then, heading toward the living room in search of her GameBoy Advance SP. No reason, really, just this sudden urge...
