And there he went, Simon didn't take a second more to hesitate in the attempt to catch up and keep up. He had remembered the whole pace yourself in childhood races, but he also remembered he hadn't been above knocking the other children down. He wouldn't do such a thing to Nero, but his competitive nature still held true, and after a few seconds of paced running, he gave that up in impatience and took off at full speed. Probably foolish for how far they had to run, but... perhaps he should have read more books as a child.

Nero noticed the other boy pick up his pace, and gave a half smile before going fully into it himself. He threw his whole body into running, into moving forward, although something in the back of his mind nagged at him to find cover... Not so much a gift, but recieved by scorpions nonetheless. Scorpions ran fast to find cover. He shook off the thought after a few moments, heart pounding in his chest as adrenaline was released in his system, his instincts making up some imaginary danger. He let that form. It made him run faster. He sprang forward a little bit quicker now, and ran at full speed until he felt fatigue seeping into his body after awhile. Wow, it was a long way. As soon as he took his mind off of running, he did Simon a favor and sent himself sprawling onto the ground by a misplaced foot. He was sitting up almost instantly, blinking owlishly. "O-owch." Woops.

Simon's own pace wasn't nearly as lucky, if his instincts would say anything at this point it would be 'why the hell are you on land?' Heftier than most, keeping a fast pace let gravity do more damage than anything else, and he was quickly getting a few side stiches and cramps from muscles that said he should be swimming to be fast. But, competitive nature overrode that, ignor it and it'd go away... Thoguh his body did force him to slow alittle, letting Nero speed past him. For a moment, he was sure Nero was going to win, and while he was alittle impressed, his pride was already aching.
Ofcourse, everything stopped when Nero suddenlyl dipped down out of sight and met the ground. Simon skidded to a stop, spinning back to look at him as his chest heaved to try and grasp some air into his lungs, both of which were burning by now. No pain no gain, right? "You okay?" he asked, moving over to offer a hand up to the scorpion.

Nero looked shyly down at his feet, head drooping in a sheepish sort of manner. How embarrassing.. A light pink color mixed with the natural green of his cheeks and he nodded, "Y-yeah, I-I'm okay." He smiled up at his friend in a lopsided sort of way, and then hesitantly extended a claw so that it fell into the other boy's hand. Afterwards, he began the rather awkward rise to his feet and began patting the dirt off of his pantlegs. "I-I guess I w-wasn't paying at-attention.."
His own tiny body was heaving, and for the trillionth time in his life, the scorpion lad wished he was able to sweat. A soft ache was beginning to fill his body, but he rather did like it. It was a welcome pain. "H-how far i-is it f-from h-here?" He asked with a c**k of his head, brushing some hair off of his forehead with a push of his claw.

Ah good... Atleast he was okay. once the claw was in hand, Simon gave a hard pull to life the smaller of the two up off the ground just slightly then set him on his feet, continueing to hold til he was sure nero had gained his balance then dropped the claw. "You should be more careful." He noted, absent mindedly as though Nero wouldn't have figured that out by now.
"it's not that far..." The shark squinted his beady eyes to try and peer over the next hill to see if this was the last or if there was more... Ofcourse, lacking X-ray vision, squinting did nothing to aid in seeing past a hill. "I think." He added, for good measure.

The boy nodded thoughtfully, and then turned to look at the larger lad his was standing beside with a thoughtful expression.
Nero took this moment to once again register the vast difference in growth between the two, a light pink touching the natural green tone of his face. He turned his head away quickly so as to hide his embarrassment, stepping forward and pretending to decipher the distance between them and their destination. Although, he also had no super powers to help him see through the hill, and this method proved just as useless. He scratched at the back of his head with a claw, huffing out a puff of air. "Hmmm.. W-we c-could be cl-close, I guess.." He turned all four of his eyes to his friend, the larger set sparkling with a sort of curiosity, "U-uhm.. H-how of-often have y-you walked d-down t-to town?" His eyes narrowed a bit in an amused sort of way- it seemed like his friend who resided near this place knew very little of it.
The scorpion gave a light tug on his friend's arm as he continued to walk, initiating the process of heading towards town once again. Hopefully he didn't fall like an idiot again. For some reason his clumsiness embarrassed him more around his old friend than it did anyone else.
