Character-wise I have trouble picking factions, because I like characters from all different sides, and it's hard to tell what some count as with how all the families muddle together...
If you mean good as in moral, there's plenty of good Empire pilots who were willing to fight and die for the good of the people or their friends, not OMG POWER. Just because Zenebas and Prozen were nasty bastards doesn't mean everyone under them was.
Karl may have taken to an alliance so readily because he's from a rival family to the Prozen lot. I don't think he's as nice and shiny and perfect as people think. But I like that. More complex motivation than "he's good so that not everyone from the Empire is an idiot" wins! *bricks CC's militaries*

Empire because I like their Zoids better. And because I like Prozen. *likes the hair, and the albinism, so sue me.* Though it was a very tough choice. The Empire (namely Marcus, if memory serves) betrayed the Arcabaleno...
But yea, the Empire has cool characters (like poor Thomas. ^^ *pats him*), awesome zoids, more reliable technology, and Karl was self-sacrificing and honourable.

MystickSkye I wouldn't be so sure about that, in Legacy the Zero X is most definitely under the Imperial listing. And yes, technically the Liger Zero is a Republican Zoid as it was completed by them and first put into active service by the Republic. Thing is, both Liger Zero and Berserk Fuehrer(I mentioned this in my above post too >_>) were created and developed by the Guylos empire. Thing is, the Liger Zero prototype was stolen by the Republic in a battle where apparently Wolff and Ray Gregg both enter the Guylos hangar where the two zoids were. Wolff took to the Fuehrer and Ray to the Liger Zero, both which weren't complete at that point. The Reoublic having attained the Liger Zero, completed it and took advantage of the CAS ability to build three armour sets for the zoid. After it was completed though, the Empire managed to steal a complete Liger Zero from the Republic and then did it up themselves resulting in their own Liger Zero as well as the X armour. Ok... I thought I knew stuff about Zoids... but boy was I wrong... I am Zoids illiterate!

The fanbooks are mostly unpoked territory in the Western fandom because they're SOMUCHTEXT. Someday I hope to be able to summarize them ;_;.
Wolff = Prozen's son, ends up in charge of the Neo Zenebas Empire. Ray Gregg = keety Zoid pilot that ends up Wolff's rival by killing his best friend (unintentionally, in battle)

I like the battle story stuff. There are some fun characters and interesting stuff concerning the characters they pulled from it to put in the anime. >_>

I think my brain just about died at the combination of his name with "dead sexy". It burns!
Gambino was a bodyguard-type of Zenebas who killed himself (in the style of a dishonored samurai, not randomly - think hara kiri/seppuku) after his men tried to rebel against Zenebas and his whole "yay 70 year war" thing. Gambino wasn't for the war either, but he'd served under Zenebas' dad and had been told to take care of the family, as it were...
Zenebas just got madder and had his men hunted down and presumably killed. How nice of him :p.
