I know this is kind of off topic, but, have any of you seen the show the Compleate Works of William Shakespeare (abridged)? It's very funny. If you like Shakespeare and you haven't seen it, look for it on Netflix.

P.S. It takes the entire "works" and three people perform it in an hour and a half.

Shakespeare in Love is a great movie, and sort of shows the young boys playing a femaly role in a play, it's quite hilirious.

I've never been introduced to Shakespeare, or anything until this semester in college since i'm taking Introduction to Theatre.

Shakespeare in Love is a pretty good movie--apparently a lot of the information cited in there is true to historical evidence. Christopher Marlowe was his main competition at the time--if Shakespeare never existed, then what of Marlow? Also, it's not exactly a secret that his plot lines weren't exactly all original, as he'd borrowed from many other previously published works of others; however, that's not to say that the language and style of writing isn't his own. Through records, there are birth and death records of William Shakespeare. Unless of course, you're indicating the fact that there were Shakespeare imposters... which could be a possibility as his writing style did vary qutie a bit from his first works to his last. Although that could be credited to his writing ability evolving and improving.

Well, when he was writing his plays,
England had the very first Queen running the country;
Queen Elizabith I.
This was known as Englands 'Elizabithain Era'.
Maybe he was pro-women rights,
Although not one of the actors in any Elizabithain Era plays ever was a women.
He most likely didn't want to draw so much hate on himself,
So he secretly tied womens strong will in the plays.

Oh, by the way.
The only time Juliet was ever really strong in the play,
Was when she drank the potion to fake her death.

I don't think one of the writers was a woman because, like you said, they weren't respected and I doubt many men play writers would want to work with them.

(Gahh! I'm running out of topics!)
