He and Juli Mizrahi both have a history with Rubedo and the others. In the game's introductory flashback, Helmer dispatches chaos and Canaan to rescue the URTVs.

 Juli MizrahiDOB: T.C. 4723 Age: 44 years old Introduced as a cold woman who shuns the realian who views her as a mother, Juli Mizrahi returns in Episode II to play a more compassionate role. Through a moment of bonding with Ziggy, Juli realizes that she was wrong to reject MOMO as a copy of her daughter, Sakura. She resolves to treat MOMO as a second daughter, rather than an imitation.

 MargulisDOB: T.C. 4723 Age: 44 years old Margulis and Jin's rivalry seems to go back to before the Miltian Crisis. Apparently, they were both students in the art of swordsmanship under Shion and Jin's grandfather. Margulis also takes a center stage by manipulating the Patriarch, leader of the Immigrant Fleet.

 Captain MatthewsDOB: T.C. 4727 Age: 40 years old After escorting Shion and the others to Second Miltia, Matthews has little time to rest before being sent out again. When Jr. and the Kukai Foundation need a small ship to transport them stealthily to Old Miltia, he doesn't have much choice in the matter.

 Miyuki ItsumiDOB: T.C. 4747 Age: 20 years old Miyuki actually appears in person as an NPC rather than only being shown in communications with Shion. She doesn't really give you any nifty new weapons in this episode, but she serves as some comedy relief.

Nephilim
Nephilim is mysterious as ever, appearing to Shion and chaos in a few key scenes. She promised to explain herself after Shion returned to Old Miltia, but perhaps a physical return isn't exactly what she meant?

 PellegriDOB: T.C. 4732 Age: 35 years old Pellegri is given command of an E.S. unit in this installment of Xenosaga which the protagonists will run into more than once. She still seems uneasy about taking lives, but entirely willing to do so all the same.

 TonyDOB: T.C. 4738 Age: 29 years old As the pilot of the Elsa, Tony is also enlisted to make the trek to Old Miltia. Even his piloting skills can't help them escape from the trap Ormus had laid for their party.

 U-DOIn Xenosaga II Jr. lets the information on U-DO drop. U-DO was called a UMN control AI, but it is actually from another dimension; or more accurately, a higher plane of existence. The URTVs were created to cancel out its presence by sacrificing their lives, not to eliminate it as they were raised to believe.
