Hmm, You know -if this is true- Just because two actors work together frequently, it doesn't mean they have to be best of friends.. and yes of course they appear friendly and kind towards each other at events, but that's called being civil and professional. At the end of the day they aren't paid to be best friends, just to act in the same movies.
Also, just to add, they are very different people, who have taken almost exact opposite routes in their careers and yet somehow ended up in the same movies, so it wouldn't surprise me if they found less things in common than you might imagine.
And as for the article, I doubt Johnny Depp would have so plainly announced the state of their friendship, for it to be published and then questioned, he's a private person, and wouldn't see the need in the public knowing if he and Orlando got on, as he see's his job as to act and please the audience, not initially to socialize.

hmmmm i dont know .... i think its just a rumor ...... but maybe its like kind of sort of true .... like there friends and everything .... but they just dont have the same interests ....

some how i do believe this rumer b/c the 1st pirates movie was supposed to put johnny back on top but instead, orlando was mostly everyones main focus b/c hes younger. i think he is ugly! grr!

Yea the first Pirates put Orlando on top, but I don't think thats something that would upset Johnny to go blabbing to the press that him and Orlando aren't friends so to speak. Johnny doesn't do his acting for the publicity, he does it because he enjoys it, and for his fans. Which is odd when you think about it because he doesn't like the publicity but he loves his fans. ^_^ Such a confusing man, but it all makes perfect sense at the same time. But yea, I don't think he would be upset about Orlando getting more attention from the first Pirates. lol.
