I am ALWAYS listening to music xD For NaNo, I plan to listen to a good deal of Evanescence, because I just love them, and... well, I went to Cirque De Soleil the other night and loved the music so I made my dad buy me the soundtrack biggrin I plan to listen to that a lot too.

I listen to a wide range of music, and it's always ALWAYS playing while I write. Um...*thinks* Evanescence, Linkin Park, Disturbed, Mudvayne, Panic! At The Disco, Hinder, Three Days Grace, Nightwish, Within Temptation and a boatload more. Course...I also listen to such soundtracks as Lion King, Chronicles of Narnia, Prince of Egypt, LOTR, and more. And if you wanna get REALLY weird, I listen to german bands (in german) E Nomine, Megaherz and a tiny bit of Rammstein. And I like the Japanese bands Orange Range, High and Mighty Color, Der en Gray and a few more. sweatdrop

I've got over 300 songs on my computer and about 40 CD's behind me, lol.

for me, when I do listen to music, I like either music with no words, or music in other languages since when I listen to music in a language I know then I tend to pay attention to that instead of my writing. mostly electric or something not too fast, like ummmm, well not metallica. classical also works.

xd I find classical music, or instrumental music to be distracting, because then my attention is pulled into adding something to the music that I'm listening to.

I generally listen to what I call 'wall of noise' songs, to blot everything else out. I like songs that are upbeat (in sound at least), easy on the ears, with fairly fast tempos so it keeps me typing.

My list of noise:
Red Hot Chili Peppers - Zephyr Song/Snow (Hey Oh)/etc.
Death Cab for Cutie - Crooked Teeth/Death of an Interior Decorator
Snow Patrol - Spitting Games
Oasis - The Importance of Being Idle (it's almost like a marching song, which helps me march along in my writing)
Action Action - The Game
Weezer - Random songs
The All-American Rejects - Random songs
A bit of Franz Ferdinand, a bit of Audioslave.
And of course, the Barenaked Ladies. 3nodding Alcohol is a most amusing song.
Occasionally, I listen to someone crazy like Aya Matsuura.

Less noisy:
Regina Spektor - Fidelity
Fiona Apple - Paper Bag
Stars - On Peak Hill/Your Ex-Lover is Dead
Michelle Branch - Something to Sleep To

Even less noisy:
Beck - Lost Cause
Porcupine Tree - Lazarus
Otsuka Ai - Planetarium

And of course, if I want to drive myself crazy to try and see something for my novel (inspiration?), I'll just listen to Rubinstein. (The Polish one.)

Of course, there's always Pure Noise, which blots out all thought for moments when I'm just sloughing through:
System of a Down
Sum 41
Nickelback
Nirvana

Hmm. Well, I'd have to dig into my CD collection for more...

There's also the stuff I never listen to but own because it gives me more street cred, including Pink Flyod, Jeff Buckley, The Strokes, and Dream Theatre. rolleyes I play those CDs when I'm not sure what I want to do.

Ack, this was long and narcissic.

I agree about the whole songs with lyrics thing being distracting. sweatdrop

I can't write if things are silent so I always have music playing when I'm writing. Classical, techno, drum and bass, instrumental and things like that. Listening to things in foreign languages help me too. J-rock, j-pop, Irish folk songs, German rock, French pop, etc.

Whatever I'm listening to usually sets the mood.

Oddly enough, Fleetwood Mac is the best thing for me to listen to when in a stump, or when I find myself unable to write. I have no idea why, but when I listen to Fleetwood Mac, it's just easier to write.

Other than that, though, I'll listen to rock, or classical, or a combination of the two, or anything else that seems like it might help at any given moment.

It's interesting how we tend to like the same sort of music, huh? Anyway, I usually listen to the songs I've downloaded onto my computer or the Sirius Satelitte music channel Octane on my TV.

Some artists include:

--Dir en Grey
--Malice Mizer
--Utada Hikaru
--MUCC
--Disturbed
--Linoln Park
--Nickelback
--Soundgarden
--music from the Songs to Wear Pants to website
--80's and 90's tv themes (Jem and the Holograms, Gummi Bears, Ducktales, Spongebob etc.)
--soundtacks (Disney movies, Nightmare Before Christmas, LotR)
--anime themes (Yu-Gi-Oh!, Pokemon, Tenchi Muyo!, Utena, etc)

If I get bored or burnt out, I tend to watch a little TV, or anime music videos that I've made. It helps me feel creative again.

My NaNoWriMo Inspirational Theme Song of the 2006 is "Die Vampire, Die" from the off-Broadway musical [title of show]. It's so fabulous and hilarious, and NaNo-esque. Plus, [tos] in general reminds me of my last year NaNo novel. I love it.

Generally, depending on my level of focus, I write to movie sountracks, musical cast recordings (favourite that aren't too distracting include The Last Five Years, Light on the Piazza, and Wicked, probably just because I've listened to it so much), and wordless or classical music.

My NaNo playlist is going to have lots of soundtracks. My current favorite is the Finding Neverland soundtrack. Plus Hans Zimmer stuff. And classical music, like Rachmaninoff and Vivaldi and Bach. And the Original Broadway Cast Recording for the Lion King.
As for bands, I've found that Pink Floyd is great to write to. Just... all of their albums. 3nodding Plus 80s music. The dramatic, glam kind. And acoustics. I love acoustics.
If I run out of stuff to listen to, there's always my favorites playlist. And that's a medley of rock, metal, alternative and... a pinch of everything else minus hiphop, rap and R&B.

@Morsuaile: I agree that techno music can really be inspiring! I just get so caught up in it... it's good for exercising, too, because it allows you to zone out and just really get into the groove.
@Rennire: I need to see Treasure Planet already... @^@
@Amethyst: I also have a CD with some Celtic music on it. It is so beautiful and I hope I can listen to it this year without me wanting to play violin! xd
@Nucleotide: That is an awesome CD.
@Eirein: I LOVE Stars! And Red Hot Chili Peppers! And Snow Patrol! xd They are all supah doopah for writing and arting.
@Varsheena: Fleetwood Mac is gold. I think I can get calm and in a good writing mode while listening to them because when I was younger and went places with my family, they would often play their music in the car. Satriung out the window, dozing under air conditioners, and having their songs play invoke an artsy, creative mood for me.
@Eolandale: Eighties music rocks my socks, And Finding Neverland is one of my most favorite movies.

Ooh, I haven't heard a lot of what's been listed... makes me want to try some new things out! xd

Sorry for not visiting in a few days... I didn't notice the "next page" button for guilds and was confused as to why this one had disappeared. sweatdrop

@Ariies: I haven't. They've never been to India. But I've heard that's it's Great with a capital g. 3nodding

@Cruzle: Celtic music is lovely too. I've been listening to The Corrs' 'Home' on repeat lately. And Enya. Unfortunately that's as much cetic music as I've got. xD

E.S. Posthumus is very fantasy. No words either (well, nothing English) for those who can't handle lyrics while writing.

I've yet to meet anyone who's heard of him, though. I think the guy only made one CD...

Anyway, it's great for writing! I came up with new ideas just listening.
