"I thought you would fail." Kankuro cut in, holding a beverage cup. He seemed to be examining Naruto through narrowed eyes, backed off a bit because of the presance of his brother. "Didnt even expect you to return contious, let alone, alive. And with the Uchiha strapped to your back, even..." He gave a slight shrug and took a sip from the cup he held.
Kankuro looked over to Gaara for a moment, making sure his brother was okay. He then looked over his shoulder at Sasuke, not really having much to say. He would probably just stand there until he found something to do, but in the meantime, he went back to examining Naruto.

][No one ever saw that... ;>___>][
Sasuke rubbed his wrists, which were already swelling from the rope tied tightly around him for more than a day. Without a second glance at the blonde that freed him, he stood up, walking away. Hands in his pockets, he immediately began a search for a secluded area where he could think alone. However, he felt no luck. Everywhere he went, he felt eyes upon him. Never approaching him, but just looking. He rolled his eyes, worrying half-heartedly for the future of a villiage with such cowardly ninjas.
From the close distance, he suddenly heard the shrill sound of squealing. He winced. Having spent time alone with Naruto in silence, his ears were not used to the sudden uprise in volume. He glared, glancing up just in time to see a pink-haired blur coming towards him with a trail of brown dust following behind. s**t, it was the fangirl brigade.
"Sasuke-kun!" Sakura cried, running towards the said boy. Though it was a month--or maybe less than that--since she'd seen him, it had felt like a year. Without second thought, she jumped forward, latching herself onto his arm. "Naruto promised... and you're back!"

][I saw it! x3][
“Well then, I guess that means you must be astonished as well, right?” His gaze shifted from Gaara to Kankaru, a sly smirk taking shape. Shaking his head some, he snickered. It was probably true that Naruto was the only one who had been capable of bring back the Uchiha. Gaara probably would take his time answering a question such as the one he had just asked. Catching a movement in the corner of his eye, he turned, it was Sasuke. A worried expression took hold of him, even if only for a few moments. And then, it happened. The high pitch shrill. Sakura. Watching as the pink hair girl latched onto him, a soft low growl emanated from within him. Not only did she not thank him for going off and risking his life to bring him back… he felt the want to be in her position. Was that wrong to want to tug him into an embrace? He hadn’t seen the other in what felt like a lifetime and they were the best of friends, at least at one point.
Heaving a sigh, he looked away, head falling back into a hung position. Who knew what the Uchiha was thinking. It was obvious that he still cared about their friendship or he wouldn’t have gone through all the trouble of bringing him back. Eyes shifting to the water he held, he raised it to his lips, taking another drink, swishing it about in his mouth before swallowing it.

Kankuro gave a wince at the squeal, and turned around to examine Sakura latching onto Sasuke. "Sheesh. Can you keep it down?" He growled. He lifted a hand underneath his hood and pretended to be cleaning out an ear. "You almost made me go deaf with that racket. " He narrowed his eyes at the pink-haired fangirl. To him, she broke the record of being the loudest person at the 'party', so far.
Giving a "Tch." He turned back around to catch Naruto hanging his head for a moment before taking another drink. He decided to take a drink from his own cup, only to find it empty. Eyeing the bottom of the cup, he chucked it into an open trashcan and shoved his hands into his pockets. He made no commentary to say that he was astonished, or not. What he was more curious about was the growl the blonde had emitted only a few moments ago...

[[Saw what? o_O]]
There was noise. Annoying noise. Why was there noise? Because there were people. When there were people, there was noise, it was simple logic. The male leaning against the wall shut his pale white eyes, calming his nerves. There was a distinctive twitch to his eyebrow that he tried to control. Over the years, his hardened nature made it easy to hide his aggitation. Yet, thanks to that little bundle of energy, he wasn't able to control it much. Sure, he was still cool and collective, but now, he wonders how he was able to stand it. He doesn't see it. He was slightly sympathetic for the Uchiha... The boy had both an overactive ball of energy and a pink... yes PINK haired kunoichi who didn't understand what it meant to be a ninja until AFTER he left. Yes... Haruno Sakura. The girl that couldn't even break free of a simple chakra enhanced piece of hair. Seriously... Her taijutsu was the crappiest thing he's seen in all his life. Yet, she grew now. All thanks to her training as a medic nin. Now she could do something. Now, she had strength and skill that not even he possessed. That was something to envy. He had to admit that.
He reached up to his ear with his long, slender fingers, brushing dark strands of hair out of his face. His hair had grown and he didn't see a point in cutting it. It got in his eyes alot now yet he didn't mind. He opened his eyes once again, looking around the dark mountain at the others sucking up his air. Uzumaki Naruto, the only person capable of saving one from the darkness of their own heart. A smile crossed over his pale lips. The next person, Gaara... The Kazakage of the Sand. He was another one. Another person saved from the darkness. Why he was in the dark? No one knew... Okay some might have known but whatever. The red head was just crazy... for a while. And then there was Kankuro. That puppet master. Of course he have Haruno, and the famed Uchiha, who had a pinked haired girl latched to his arm.
Neji Hyuuga could have sworn he heard a growl. But he was just hillucination. Or was someone in this room jealous? He shrugged it off, not really caring anymore. He was just here on the request of the blond. Nothing more. The Uchiha isn't special to him. He pushed himself off the wall, walking forward, before turning and walking some more. He began walking in a square, finding a way to keep himself occupied. He was human... and as a human... he got bored...

He sighed, tugging his arm gently away from his ex-teammate's hold. Really, after all of the trouble that he'd caused the village, betraying them and escaping to Orochimaru, Sasuke was surprised that he had fans at all. Perhaps it was the love-conquers-all crap. He took a mental note to kill whoever invented the sappy phrase, and meanwhile to tell Sakura to convert to a nun or something.
Looking into hopeful green eyes, however, the words were suddenly lost in the back of his throat as he realized he couldn't do it. She looked expectant but weary, as if putting on an act would bring back the old Sasuke, yet knowing that the present Sasuke was different from the one of the past. The Uchiha looked to the floor, glaring at his feet. Had he changed? Surely, everyone in the village changed their attitude towards him...
Heck, even Naruto changed. He risked a glance at the blonde out of the corner of his eyes. Appearance told nothing, but there was a sharp distinction between the Naruto of the past and the Naruto of the present. While the old Naruto was hyper, irresponsible, and downright obnoxious and idiotic, he was now more collected, losing the innocence that he once had in his childhood--but still, he was annoying. There was no denying that part.
Something shifted in front of Sasuke, as his anti-social mind remembered there was still someone to address.
"Hai," he muttered quietly, almost forcing him to speak. His unused voice seemed like a stranger in his ears. With hesitation and debate over his next words, he finally settled upon one. "T-tadaima..."
Feeling Sasuke's tug, Sakura immediately pulled away, scolding her old habits. She stood there expectantly, waiting for a reply, anything, any sign coming from the teen that he was okay, that he was still the Sasuke she knew. She didn't care if it was some snappy dejection at her love, or some lashing come back about Naruto's promise, as long as it was something Sasuke...
Hearing his words, her eyes widened slightly. It took her several moments to recover, smiling and blinking through--what was that, tears?--swinging her arms around his shoulders into a hug.
"Okaeri," she whispered.

Naruto’s head was still held low, not much was spared to anyone now. He managed to drag the deserter back, all that was all. No gratitude, no praise. Nothing. Again, a low growl escaped him, this time, softer then the last. Lifting his gaze upwards, he saw Sasuke and Sakura embrace. In reality, he was happy to have made Sakura happy, but it hurt having to go through all that he did and end up getting nothing whatsoever. Lifting himself off the ground slowly, a wince was issued. His body took a lot more then he had thought it did.
“I’ll be back…” Naruto muttered, it was more to those around him who were actually listening. Making his way through the crowd of people, he entered into a passage and set off towards the top of the mountain. His pace was slow, but that didn’t bother him all that much. Heaving a sigh, his hand dropped into the confines of his pockets, digit idly curling about his thighs.
“…” Naruto had finally made it to the top and looked over the village, nothing seemed to have change. At all. Shrugging some, he dropped to the ground and sat there, legs bent at the knees and arms hugging them close to his chest. He should have known that once he returned, things were going to be the same. He would always be looked down upon, at least in some way or another…
--===--
Kiba had been sitting off to the side of the room, Akamaru residing within the half zipped coat. It wasn’t until now, that Akamaru climbed out of the jacket and set off towards Sasuke and Sakura.
“Akamaru, what’s up boy?” Kiba questioned, getting up and following him. Once there, Akamaru barked once and turned back to Kiba. Kiba blinked, still confused. Shifting his gaze upwards towards the two embracing, he shifted some but then spoke again. “Nice to see you returned.” With that he continued onwards, Akamaru at his heel. It was a lie, but it was still nice to welcome someone back. Sasuke had never given Kiba a reason to be nice, but, it wasn’t like Kiba to be rude though.

A shiver ran through his shocked body at the human touch, its impulse action to pull away. Sasuke scolded himself for not seeing her actions sooner, resisting to pull away. Perhaps if he were younger, he wouldn't have minded at all. Back then, Sakura was nothing but a brainless girl with a crush. But now... spending all of his genin days with team seven, he knew she cared for him. He wouldn't even dare to hurt her feelings now.
Foolish little brother...
He froze, his mind automatically recalling the deep voice of his elder brother. Suddenly, the day's events flooded back into his mind, how Itachi mercilessly killed everyone because of him... because he was so weak with emotions.
A blonde blur rushed past him, snapping him out of his thoughts. Sasuke glanced at the exit in which it was headed, realizing it was Naruto. Confused, he caught himself just in time and not tear after the blonde, keeping his emotions in check. After all, who cared if the idiot wasn't having fun crashing his own party?
Feeling Sasuke tense, the pink-haired girl pulled back a bit, again scolding herself for being so inconsiderate. She sighed, half-defeated. Maybe it was just the whole mood of the situation. Suddenly, Naruto rushed past her, and suspicion immediately dawned on to her. What was wrong with Naruto? He usually wouldn't go without saying goodbye to at least her of all people.
She pulled away for the second time, looking up at the beautiful face that she'd fallen in love with. Catching herself in the thought, she blushed, looking back down.
"It's nice that you're back," she said. Glancing towards the direction that Naruto was heading, she nodded slowly. "I think... you should see what's wrong with Naruto."

"Well, isnt he just a little rude..." Kankuro grunted after watching Naruto get up and dissappear out the nearest exit. He didnt even think about following him, as he had noticed the wince from the boy, and even the second growl, and figured he just needed to be alone. Heck, this crowd was getting to be a little much for him, even. He scanned the crowd, and noticed a boy with a dog walk past the returned rebelious Uchiha.
Kankuro vaguely remembered the boy to be Kiba, and the dog to be Akamaru, but little interest left him with little rememberance of the boy. Hey, practically the whole crowd was unkown to him, save for bits and peices of what he'd kept track of. Giving a sigh, he crouched down and rested one hand on the floor, while the other held his head up. "Man, i'm bored." He grunted.

((Gomen for not posting, me's ashamed...))
Gaara had stayed silent throughout all this, wondering what Naruto would be thinking. He heard the blonde growl at Sakura's wild hug, and watched as Naruto slipped away, but didn't follow. It didn't seem like he should be the one to follow, really. Or, at least, not the one Naruto wanted to be followed by. Gaara stared at his drink critically, debating whether he actually wanted to get dead drunk tonight, which would involve a massive hangover tomorrow morning coupled with one of Temari's lengthy lectures.
...No, it was rude to get dead drunk in a party (or really meeting?) like this, especially for someone as distinguished as him...
But then, pretending to be drunk would be ok, especially to get legitimately close to a certain white eyed nin... Gaara took a sip of his cup and grinned.
((GaaNeji, please please please?))
Itachi suddenly materialized next to the blonde that had come out, his Sharingan hidden by his black bangs. He avoided the eyes of the perplexed nin beside him, prefering to stare up at the moon. "So you brought my otouto back, just like you said you would, Naruto. Has anybody thanked you yet? Or has all the attention been showered on my little undeserving brother like always?"

][No worries. n.n;][
A hiss escaped Naruto at the voice; it was obvious who it had been by the spoken words. Not once did his gaze leave the village below, or even the twilight sky above. Naruto did not want to look upon the eldest Uchiha, out of both fear of his powers and out of annoyance in general. There was no need to be nice at a time such as this.
“What do you want, Itachi?” Naruto growled, deep and with a slight rumble. Naruto’s chin dropped and pressed itself into the crevasse between both of his knees. Heaving a sigh, his eyes closed. It might have been a wrong move, but at the moment, Naruto couldn’t care less what Itachi did to him. "Just do what you came here to do and be on your way..." It was almost a demand, but not quite.

Sakura watched as Sasuke turned and left without a word. She took a hesitating step to follow, but stopped in thought. If this was Sasuke and Naruto's private business, why should she intrude upon it? She frowned. Why did she suddenly think that the two were closer than they looked?
She turned around, smiling sadly. A sense of deja vu was burried deep in the back of her mind.
As soon as Sakura's piercing gaze left him and his paranoia along with, Sasuke's walk broke out into a quick jog. Picking out the dobe's trail wasn't hard as he rounded about the Third's head, climbing effortlessly dispite several muscle aches to the top of it. He smirked as the messy array of hair was in sight, carefully plotting out his revenge. They were probably the only ones here at the moment. If careful, he may be able to plot his revenge upon Naruto for beating him up... and perhaps escape. Feeling the ache in his muscle, he scratched out the second part of his plan. No, screw that. Escaping was impossible at the second. So, that just left the revenge...
"Oi, usuratonkachi," he called out, finally reaching the top. He almost grinned at the memory of past spars and fights; this was usually how it started. "How about--"
His speech was cut short by the sight of the man standing directly behind Naruto.

[[GaaNeji.... o_O -doesn't really like that paring but will try- ... -sighs- >_<]]
Neji sat down. What was there to do here? Naruto just left, and so did Sasuke. Neji felt the sudden power that resided up there with the Uchiha and Naruto, yet he didn't know who it was. He knew it was someone strong yet who? He closed his eyes, sensing another new prescense. Great... He thought. He could feel the bundle of energy bouncing up to them. It wasn't long before the person of his dreams... more like nightmares... entered very dramatically.
"I have arrived!" The male said, his body clad in tight green spandex that clung to his body. A chuunin vest was over his outfit, with also consisted of a red headband wrapped around his waist, and yellow orange leg warmers. Said male struck a pose, his thumb up and his arm extended. "The villages handsome devil, Rock Lee, is here!" He said cheerfully. Lee looked around. Things were so gloomy. Weren't they supposed to be celebrating? Naruto had brought back Sasuke-kun. Speaking of which. Both boys were missing. He blinked. "What's going on?" He wondered outloud. He noticed his teammate, Hyuuga Neji, standing by a wall. He grinned and walked over to his teammate and frie- Best friend.
"Neji... What's wrong with everyone?" He asked. The Hyuuga only stared at him blankly. Lee didn't let that phase him. He only stared back in return, awaiting the Hyuuga's reply. Neji only shrugged, and walked away to another side of their current area. Lee blinked. "Ah.. Neji! Chotto Matte Kudasai!" He said frantically. It was evident that neji didn't want to be bothered. Lee sighed dejectedly. Things were so boring. He then looked up, seeing the girl he fell in love with about 2 and a half years ago. "Ah! Sakura-san!" He said happily, skipping over to her.

"The families all here..." Naruto mused with a annoyed chuckle. Why did he have to be in the middle of it all now. Not only did he drag Sasuke back, Itachi was here as well. Both of them want to get at him or wanting to extract revenge. This was not a good situation for the blonde, but none the less, he didn't really care. Shifting in place a little, his digits laced together around his legs, a weak sigh escaping him, once again.
"Itachi, why did you come here? If it is for Sasuke, please, do what you will. It would save me the trouble of exerting myself in defense..." Naruto, in truth, was in an angsty mood. He couldn't care less for anything, for the first time. It was as if nothing he did mattered, and now, he was opened up to that. There was nothing worth doing anymore, or so he felt. Naruto actually stifling a soft chuckle at all of this. Boy, life sure is great, isn't it? He mused himself.
