A small package is left outside your chamber door wrapped in dark cloth. Inside is a small card and a toy. The card reads:

Happy Yule, Lupinis!

~ Majestrix Nox

Roleplay Scene Summary

Plot: Lupinus meets Vulpina and becomes a teen eek
Participants: Lupinus and Vulpina

With Vulpina's note in his hands, Lupinus walked through the halls until he reached the other Fey's chambers. He stopped in front of her door, tucked the note into his belt and knocked twice. Waiting, he let his mind wander a little.

I wonder if she's there? Maybe she won't want to talk too much. I'd rather be outside hunting. She's a girl, I bet she won't really want to go outside with me either, like Aranea with her books...

He listened for the sound of someone coming toward the door.

Vulpina was sitting in on her bed, her nose in a book, with Simone, the kitsusagi, curled in her lap like a self-heating blanket.

She started alittle when she heard the knock at the door. Simone raised her head and twitched her ears, hair standing up a bit protectively. Kamiki usually just knocked twice and entered, so this obviously wasn't her.

Gently shoving Simone off her, she went to the door and opened it, her kitsu gaurd close at her heels.

The door opened, and Lupinus found himself face to face with a fey girl about his age; he glanced down and saw the creature standing proctectively just behind her and repressed his instinct to back away. He took out the note again and, unfolding it, held it up.

"You're Vulpina? I got your message." He pointed at the creature, considering that it might be good to have an animal companion of his own. "What's that? I've never seen one of those before."

Vulina blinked a few times. She had never actually met another fey like herself. Especially not a boy. After a moment, she regained comporsure and smiled. "Yes, I'm Vulpina. Very nice to meet you," she bowed her head in respect and motioned for him to come in.

Simone kept close at her heels, but calmed down as Vulpina's pleasant greeting.

"This is Simone," Vulpina said, patting her on her head. "My kithian says is a kitsusagi, something she brought to me from Gaia."

"Nice to meet you." Lupinus nodded a greeting in return, wondering vaguely if all the fey here were girls excepting himself. Well, he supposed girls weren't too boring; Aranea did make poisons, and he was sure the majestrix wasn't boring, though he'd yet to meet her.

Kneeling in front of Simone, he slowly extended his hand for the kitsusagi to sniff. "She's from Gaia-- have you been to Gaia?" he asked, curious to know what Gaia was like.

Simone sniffed the outstretched hand cautiously. After sensing no danger, the fox-creature rubbed her head into the open palm in a not-so-subtle invite for petting.

Vulpina smiled then turned her attention back to the boy. "Me? No. Kamiki promises to take me soon, but she says recently things have not been good. "Personal issues," she tells me."

Lupinus scratched Simone behind her ears, smiling absently. "I want to see Gaia. I think I'll have my kithain take me. But first I want to explore more of the grounds and land around this castle. That's more important to know for a war," he added, his preoccupation with battles showing.

"Aranea says the majestrix is preparing everything for a war. Have you met her yet-- the majestrix?" he clarified, remembering that Aranea hadn't met other fey children yet, so Vulpina couldn't know her.

"War? I'm afraid I wouldn't want to fight in a war. At least not with swords and stuff."

She closed the book she was reading and placed it on her bookshelf.

"I haven't explored much, either, though. To be quite honest I'm horribly bored sitting here in my room reading. I mean - its interesting and all, but I'm ready for a break."

She looked back at Lupinus. "The majestrix? Kamiki said she was there when I broke out of the window, but I don't remember."

Lupinus made a face. "What is it with girls and reading books all the time? Well... if you don't want to fight with swords, what would you do?" He wasn't a big fan of swords himself, so maybe there was still hope.

He brightened at her mention of exploring. "You'd come exploring?"

"I don't remember her, either," He tugged on his hair, thinking. "I don't remember much about the window, or before that. And I've never seen a grown-up here; kithain don't count."

"I can fight with magic," she said simply. She dusted her hands off and smiled to the boy.

"Yes, I'd love to go exploring!"

"Oh, okay." Magic sounded all right, he thought hopefully. And she did say she'd explore with him, that was a good sign, too. "Maybe we can find something interest--"

He felt a sharp pain in his stomach and fell back to his knees in surprise as the pain spread through his arms and legs; even his wings hurt. "What--?" He squinted his eyes as strange light washed over him, barely able to see Vulpina through the glow. He felt his clothes getting tighter and heard the seams tear.

Getting shakily to his feet, blinking to get rid of the aftereffects of the fading glow, he noticed that he was suddenly... quite a bit taller than he had been, and older. And still decent he saw gratefully, as he hastily checked what was left of his clothing. He looked down at Vulpina, now so much smaller than him, not sure what to say. "I, ah... well."

Vulpina jumped as Lupinis doubled over in pain. "What's wrong!? What's happening?" Vulpina didn't know what to do, and that flustered her.

She waved her hands, gave a flustered squeal, and ran over to her bookshelf, grabbing one of her spellbooks, not really knowing what she was looking for. She was flipping hastily through the pages when the sound of pain seemed to stop.

"I, ah..well...."

Vulpina spinned around at the sound of his voice and promptly dropped the heavy book she was holding, her hands clasping over her mouth in shock. Her cheeks began to burn as she stared, not knowing exactly what she was feeling for thinking.

I mean, a few minutes ago Lupinis was just a smelly boy. Now... well, now he was, ya know, a teenager.

"Wha, I me-, uh...what happened?" She finally managed, trying to keep from staring anywhere other than his face.

Lupinus shifted uneasily, his gaze darting around the room. He wished he'd had some kind of warning... and he still wasn't sure what exactly had happened.

"I remember now, hearing about growing up, how it happened," he said, half to himself. "I didn't expect-- I guess that's what it's like." He looked down at Vulpina briefly, suddenly unsure how to deal with children though he'd so recently been one himself. He shifted again. "I should probably go," he muttered, feeling a little shaky, which he did not like, but not knowing if he ought to just dash off.

Still blushing, Vulpina leaned down and sheepishly retrieved the book she dropped.

"Oh, uh, okay... I guess I'll see you around then..."

She went over to the door, making a wide cirlcle around Lupin, and opened it for him, eyes fixated on the floor.

She suddenly felt very...childish, I didn't like that all. Helpless and floundering for words- that wasn't like her. She was usually a well spoken child. Of course, this really caught her off gaurd.

His cheeks still burning, and irritated with himself for being unable to control his shock, and for not being able to keep silent during his growth, Lupinus walked to the door, nodding a quick goodbye and mumbling a quick "Thanks... bye. Ah-- see you around," as he stepped into the hall.

Once he far enough away from the door, he ran back to his own rooms, feeling too tall and awkward, disoriented by seeing everything from such a higher view.

Lupinus's Secret Mission

Summary: Lupinus goes on an adventure to seek out the legendary mounts of the Moon Court.

Lupinus's Journal
01-14-05

I'm not one for much writing, but I feel I should be keeping some kind of log. Tonight we infiltrate the Sun Court's festivities and steal away one of their children. Aranea has prepared a drug, which Feles and I will pour into their drinks. Feles, the little cat child, I did not like him much at first, but I am changing my opinion of him somewhat. He is very ambitious and clever. He will be an asset to our court. He is good at following instructions, but clever enough to improvise should it be necessary.

Our wolves will bring us home after the kidnapping-- our wolves, Comus leading his pack, as he led them back to our castle, but I will recount that adventure at another time. For now, my thoughts are on the evening to come. I must try not to underestimate the Sun Court, for all that I believe them to be weak and foolish. Well, I will find out what they are truly like tonight. I must go prepare if I am not to be late.

Humming softly to herself, Astra trots lightly down the darkened passages, looking to see if anyone is around. Of course, she figured that Lynx might not like that she was going so far, but she felt she HAD to check out the rest of the castle. Plus, what was the point of being *free* if one wasn't free to do as she wished?

Skipping down the hall she found herself at Lupinus' room. She peared in quietly, to see if anyone was about.

Lupinus scowled and returned to his rooms. He needed time to think and to be alone. Perhaps he'd go for a run with Comus and then look in on their prisoner. So much had happened today... lost one prisoner and gained another, Aranea had been harmed by that fool Sun Court Fey... Aranea's relationship with Feles was getting decidedly more interesting. Well. The Sun Court would pay for hurting one of his... his what?

His pack, he supposed, considering this. Even the cat Fey felt like part of it, sort of. Not an important part, and he wasn't particularly fond of some of his court, but most of them he could respect so far. Yes, even Feles. And if Aranea was so fond of Feles, perhaps there was even more to the cat than he saw. Or maybe Aranea was just being a silly girl, he finished, all serious thoughts abandoned.

As he approached his rooms, he saw a slight figure peering inside. Irritated at the invasion of his personal rooms--couldn't she knock instead?-- he recognized the small girl, Astra she'd said, the girl from Winny's room. Well, perhaps she wouldn't stay long. He walked up behind her. "Do you need something, girl?"

A small figure made her way down the hallway, humming softly. It only gave Pteryx a few feet of visibility each way, but it was enough while she wasn't certain. She was even dragging her father's broken spear behind her. Pteryx knew she couldn't use it, even dragging it felt like she was trying to tug a log around the castle and besides, she never liked the idea of her trying to use weapons. But for the moment, she felt safer anyway.

She was headed around the chambers, to see who was around. Pteryx did remember other children, but each chamber was as bad as her own. There was that older boy, the son of that man who hunted with her father. Pteryx wasn't sure if she liked him or not, he WAS a boy after all, but it wasn't a time to be picky about who she'd go see.

It was then she came across his chambers, Pteryx's keen ears picking up a voice.

"Hello? Who's there? I don't..." Pteryx called as she made her way in the direction of the chamber door, the loud calling sending her a clear picture of a teenager, one that was very much like what she remembered Lupinus to look like, and another girl. The girl she ignored, she wasn't quite so big and scary. "...don't remember a bigger brother, I think? I'm Pteryx?"

Then Pteryx turned in Astra's direction. "Hello, who are you?"

Hearing the quiet humming, Lupinus turned to see a second child approaching him. Of course, he thought, just when I wanted to be alone, there are children appearing from every direction. An involuntary smile played on his face when he saw the spear the child dragged behind her.

When she'd gotten a little closer, he began to notice something... familiar about her. It had been so many years since--since he'd seen children he knew, but this one he did know. The little girl-child who couldn't see, the one he remembered hearing about from the other hunters when he went out with his father. When she called out, he remembered, the odd way she seemed to see her surroundings through sounds. That's why he hadn't liked her much as a boy, he recalled. She talked too much. But then, most girls seemed to talk too much.

"Pteryx... it's Lupinus. Put down that spear and come closer, you can hardly walk lugging that thing around. We'll have to find you something lighter."

Pteryx blinked, staring at Lupinus's face. She listened now, instead of humming, it did sound like him. An older him, but a him? Still, if it was an older brother playing tricks. But that would mean raising this silly spear, and she could barely hold it up where it was.

"It was all in the chambers." Pteryx told him, dropping the heavy thing and jumping away so that it didn't fall onto her feet. As she continued to talk, she made her way over to stand in between him and the other girl. "I couldn't find anything else, but there were some books but I can't use them for this, and I don't know where anyone is. I thought the castle might be dangerous, but maybe it isn't."

She stopped talking, reaching out to grab at the wall so that Pteryx could know where she was without needing to make noises. She crossed her arms so that her leathery wings were wrapped around herself as she continued, "I just don't know what... what's going on? And why are you all big now?"

Lupinus thought for a moment, remembering where he'd moved his child-sized possessions after he'd grown. Surely he could find something that would suit her, if not a spear, then perhaps a knife at least. He pushed his door open wide and beckoned her in and, as an afterthought, motioned to Astra too.

"Come in, if you like. You can choose from my old weapons. The castle isn't--well, it wasn't dangerous. Now that the Sun Court have been scouting around, you should be able to protect yourself, weak fools though they are." Her next question stopped him. How to tell her what they were all still dealing with in their own ways, trying not to let any uncertainties show?

"I was freed from our curse before you and... I have grown some. It has been some time since we have been let out of our glass prisons. Your Kithain should have told you some of this, and they ought to have found you some decent weapons as well, though that may be too much to expect from these humans." His tail lashed in irritation. His own Kithain was useless enough. Were all humans bleeding hearts with not enough backbone?

Opening a closet, he pulled out a rolled up cloth. Spreading it out on the floor, he looked back over his shoulder to see if she was watching. "Here, first thing's first. Come choose a weapon or two." There was a small silver dirk lying next to a smaller knife, and a short spear with a sharp point. A short sword with a blue stone in the hilt, the old blowgun he'd used to practice hunting hares and eventually deer. A few others completed the collection, all sized for his use as a child.

"Take what you need. You do know how to use at least one of these?" As he waited for her, he sighed and added, "I can try to answer what other questions you have."

Pteryx made her way inside, using her hands to guide her along the wall. "The Sun Court are coming here? Did they curse us? I only could hear, I could not make noise so I could not see, and I slept a lot anyway. It is all memories of voices that I don't remember." She didn't say anymore, Pteryx didn't need to. They must have all been through that, thousands of years of being unable to move, speak, and in her case, see.

She made her way over to the teenger by means of humming an old song that she could remember, and kneeled down to look at what was there. "My kithain is a elf-thing called Neith, and she left for the land of Sun when night was coming so I don't think she is very good at anything. Didn't even clean my chamber before she left, she just stood there."

Pteryx went back to her soft humming so that she could see the weapons, but as much as she reconized what each one was, she still had the problem of not exactly knowing how to use any of them. She had an idea, but that usually wasn't good enough. The knife was what Pteryx reached for, picking it up in one of her small hands. "Father... I saw him training?" Another pause. Her father had also stopped attempting to teach her long before she was this age, because of her 'condition'. At the time, she didn't care. Her mother had been around then, with books, stories and things to distract her.

"What is easier... and still make them bleed?"

"I don't think the Sun Court would be powerful enough to curse us. At least, they don't seem to be now. If they did, they were stupid enough to curse themselves as well." He frowned at her description of her kithain. "She sounds worse than mine. How useless; I wonder if you can find something she's good for. Mine only seems to be good for testing Aranea's potions." And only the non-fatal ones at that, he thought darkly, though at times it was tempting...

Watching her choose a weapon, he nodded as she selected the small knife and bared his teeth in a grin at her last question. He could train her, and that would aid his own skills as well. She would probably have some difficulty due to her sight, but she seemed to manage well enough. And better still, she was distracting him. While he thought he'd still rather be left alone, it could have been worse.

"Right now you have surprise on your side. The Sun Court are protective of children, and even if they saw you as a threat, I believe they would be hesitant to harm you."

He picked up the dirk and removed it from the cloth, setting it on the floor as he put away the others. "I can show you how to use these. Smaller weapons will be useful and are easily concealed. Aranea can give you poisons for them. Then you must only draw blood." He thought again of Aranea and Feles, how fiercely the cat had defended her against that idiot Sun Fey. He wondered where they were now, but forced himself back to the present. "If you can reach, aim for the neck. The abdomen is a good target as well." He reached over to guide the child's hand in a horizontal striking movement. "Like that."
PostPosted: Thu Mar 03, 2005 5:47 am

"They were cursed too then?" That news seemed to cheer Pteryx up a tiny bit, and she nodded at his opinion of Neith. "Maybe she can clean up when she comes back, when the sun rises, and I can sleep."

Pteryx was eying the weapon in her hands. She did feel like it'd be a good idea to use something like this now. Once, her mother had told her that the mind was the best weapon. Pteryx still believed that, but she also knew that it was good to have something else just in case. She couldn't do magic things yet anyway. "I could trick them? Make them think I am like child who is stupid and blind and then cut them and then ..."

She grinned at the idea, ignoring the small problem that Pteryx was near blind, when she wasn't talking. Her mind seemed to buzz with ideas and possible tricks at just the idea.

"I think I remember a Aranea... I think. All so blurry now." Pteryx watched and felt the movement, and when Lupinus was away, Pteryx copied the movement a few times to try and memorize the feeling and movement.

She looked back up at Lupinus, "Neck or abdomen... and what about Sun Court? What are they doing now, why are they scouting around?". Pteryx's thoughts, as she held his face in her mind were simple. He didn't look as girl-like anymore! That was one thing she could remember. Pteryx's thoughts started to drift, and she stared at a candle for a few seconds as her mind went over things. She started thinking that the older boy was stupid and looked like a girl. He always, whenever she saw him, walked off and Pteryx was sure he was showing off when he rode off with the men. Maybe growing up made him better, like time made cheese better. And then she started to ponder. After all these years, was the cheese left behind still good? What about old book smell, did the old books still smell good? Pteryx found herself tempted to go test to see, already relaxing with the situation of the castle. Now that she knew what was happening.

...oh, right. She was in the room. Pteryx blinked a few times and continued as if she'd never drifted off, "Um. Why are they scouting?"
