basically the way i think of it is, wiccan is a reliogion based on spirituality with nature, some spells are used. the craft i think is basicallly summoning demons and then demolishing them, which, is dangerous, dragoneclipse68, knows

Luck-In-Spades Don't double post. Edit your previous post. Actually I prefer the double post. I get gold that way. Sure sometimes gaia is all funky and we have the occasional post that appears twice so we step in and edit it so it appears as a double but who knows we might be fixin it so we look a bit more intelligent. But if there was a choice to edit or not to edit I would wrather not edit. i prefer to have the gold and since it is not wrong to double post. I will continue if needed. The rules do not say it is illegal...

Hah, I was going to put a link to this up myself but here someone has already done it for me! =) This article pretty much summarizes my reasons for not believing Wicca and Witch to be completely seperate words. When I was doing most of my research last year, I found earlier works used the terms entirely interchangeably and wondered why the shift was made. It seems it hasn't been made for any truly good reason. The 'new' definition of witchcraft makes little sense to me anyway. Witchcraft is not 'just' the practice of magic in my eyes and involves something quite religious. Otherwise you might as well call yourself a wizard, a mage, a sorcerer, what have you. Why use the label witch? There's got to be something distinct about it, right? I'm not sure I'm up for making them. But I do know that when people ask me if Wicca and Witch mean the same thing, I tend to say "yes and no." Wicca as modern Witchcraft, but with a specific type of structure. However, the umbrella of Wicca has gotten so large on the dedicatory side of the movement it becomes hard to define what exactly Wicca IS anymore. It often feels so broad to me that it becomes as broad as the term Witch is so that they are near synonymous terms again. I dunno. It'd make an interesting Ph.D. inquiry at any rate.

For Wiccans, Witch is a nickname. For the other magic users, Witch is their actual name. People confuse us with witches because we have a by-blow connection with the name Witch.
Wiccans do use magic, but have self-restraint when doing so, whereas witches often, but not always, use magic to curse, harm, or in other words, create an imbalance of power to their advantage.

I think this is very stereotypical view. I called myself a Witch long befor I called myself Wiccan. When people ask me what I am, I say that I'm a Witch. If they ask my religion, I say I'm Wiccan. Wiccans use Witchcraft. Power, or magic in this case, can corrupt. Wiccans aren't immune to it simply because they are Wiccan.

I was talking about a general view, a majority of us have enough self restraint and discipline to use magic for only what is neccessary. I am sorry if I offended you, I was simply voicing my opinion.

Ducky_18 OK, here it goes. some books say that there thesame thing but others say there really different. I am starting to get confused cause i am tryhing to study to be one(just don't know what one i'm going to be). Please help. It is very confusing to be reading a book that has to do with wicca, and it say's that there one in the same and witch is just a nickname, But then theres the books that say its toataly different. All i know is that i'm starting to get confused. I beliefe in karma and the three fold law, and i believe in the "Do what thou will, an it harm none". Like i said I am confused. wiitchcraft is using spells and such, both harmful and not, wicca is not harmful and is with herbs and such... no spells
