I'm a big fan of Death, from The Sandman Chronicles by Neil Gaiman. So here she is, drawn by Chris Bachelo. I edited it, of course. The reason why I chose her (and enumerated her salient qualities to the right-hand side) was because I think she fits this guild (more than just the name.) She is dark, but not depressing or depressed. She is very pretty, and kind, and smart, and the most level-headed of all of the Endless (anthropomorphic personifications of the forever-enduring qualities of existance in the Sandman cosmology. The others are Destiny, Dream, Destruction, Desire, Despair and Delirium.) Perhaps most of all, she is understanding. She is one of the eldest of the Endless (if they can be said to have ages) and has been around since before the Beginning. She will be the last, after reality is ended and she has taken all of her siblings. Every one hundred years, she must spend a day as a mortal, so that she can better understand those she takes. Because of this, she is never as divorced from humanity as some of her siblings.
