Then I stand corrected, but the point still stands, they're going to at least want to do a pap smear within the year after having sex. From what I'm looking up, they will give birth control, with careful screening like your NP did, depending on the office. Most places will not for health reasons, a CYA kind of thing, although this is changing.

You should have sex when you're ready. I personally have a one year rule aswell, I wont have sex with a guy unless I've been with him for a year. And, only one guy has reached the one year mark... and we broke up yesterday. I'm still a virgin.
Anyways, I was once told that if I could be naked with my significant other, and have him be naked with me, and uphold a regular conversation with out feeling embarrassment, discomfort, and shame, then we were ready for sex. But really, it just is when -you- feel right for it. Make sure you're safe.
