He nodded his ascent as she turned and started off, taking a brief moment to eye the scenery around them before he trotted off after her, steps light and almost soundless against the browning grass beneath his hooves. He couldn't help but pause to stare in awe at the fiery colors of the turning leaves as they went by... trees were not terribly common, especially not in Midgar, and he'd never seen them during autumn. Red, orange, yellow, gold... he'd never seen such an array of colors, and it was breathtaking.

As they made their way towards the beach, she saw something in the corner of her eye. The mare turned her head and noticed some Teepees in the distance. It must be the Kawani village by the looks of it. There were two leggers running around after each other with sticks and laughing. She looked back at Nanaki and nodded towards the two leggers. "That is the village, as you can see those are the children running about." After a brief moment of standing there, looking at them, she began walking towards the river where they had to cross to reach the beautiful sea.

He tilted his head to one side as he watched the two-leggeds curiously, noting that they were very different from the ones that he had known in his life. Then again, this was an entirely different place, he reminded himself. "They all look so different from the two-leggeds I've seen where I come from. I've never seen dwellings like those, either." He shrugged idly as he followed after the auburn colored mare, noting that the sky was beginning to show streaks of red and orange, signalling the coming sunset.

She turned to him as they reached the river. "I hope you know how to swim." She smiled and jumped into the water. Nalani lifted her wings to keep them from getting harmed. Butterfly wings were very delicate and could tear easily if they weren't taken care of properly. Using her strong legs, she pushed forward trying not to get swept away by the river's current. Turning her head, she looked back to see if the stallion was following her.

"Knowing how and liking to are two entirely different things, miss Nalani," he chuckled softly, but padded into the water after her, making sure to keep his flaming tail above the water. It wasn't life threatening if it went out, but it hurt like hell. His hooves skimmed the bottom of the riverbed as he swam across, easily fighting the steady current until he hit shallow water on the other side, and stood up straight to shake himself off.

She stood, shaking her legs one by one to and swung her tail side to side to get the water off. Luckily, her mane didn't get wet except for the tips. "Well, that was quite fun and refreshing. I hadn't gone swimming in a while." She smiled warmly when Nanaki had finished shaking himself, "Lets be off then." Swiftly turning, the mare took off in a graceful trot. They still had the forest to cross in order to reach the pleasant shores. As they entered the woods, Nalani carefully leaped over some fallen trees and ducked whenever a low branch was overhead.

He followed her in a companionable silence, golden eyes closed and enjoying the feel of the cool autumn breeze through his short mane and upon his face. Yes, this place was peaceful, uncorrupted, pure... everything he'd ever dreamed about living in while he was growing up. He opened his eyes to eye the mare ahead of him and paused a moment, letting a wistful sigh escape his lungs as he trotted briskly after her.

Nalani watched the stallion from the corner of her eye. I wonder what he's thinking. The sun was setting pretty fast now. "Looks like we better pick up the pace." The anxious mare began to canter at a fast rate. She called back at Nanaki without looking, "Keep up, I wouldn't want you to get lost in here." At a full gallop now, she flew by trees and soared over the fallen ones.

Shaking his head to clear his thoughts, he sighed softly, quickening his pace to keep up with her as she leapt over various logs and fallen trees. Nanaki, although a rogue by nature, was no stranger to loneliness, and although he had companions to ease that ache, he had only recently begun to experience a different kind. Snorting in silent disapproval of where his own thoughts were headed, he shook his head again, leaping over another tree in pursuit of the butterfly mare.

Nalani saw a clearing a few feet ahead and called back to her friend, "We're almost there!" As she jumped the last log, one of her hooves got stuck and she fell hard hitting with her head a large rock, her leg still on the fallen tree. The mare didn't budge, the blow to her delicate head had knocked her out. Her long wavy brown hair covered her face so that you could barely she her closed eyes. Blood slowly seeped over the ground from the wound on her head.

"Miss Nalani?!" he called worriedly, speeding up his pace until he skidded to a halt beside her. Oh god, was she all right? The blood seeping out from her head injury obviously suggested otherwise, and he immediately leapt into action, concerned for her welfare. As gently as he could, he eased his muzzle beneath her neck, lifting her head until he rested it upon his own neck, and inch by inch, ever so gently maneuvered her body until he had her upon his broad back. Looking back and forth frantically, he sniffed the air for a source of fresh water, taking off immediately towards a small stream they had gone parallel to on their way to the ocean.
Upon reaching the small shore, he laid her down as gently as he could manage, using his nose to splash a bit of water onto the wound. He'd be damned if he lost a friend to an injury like this... he'd lost so many in battles, to corruption and war... he wouldn't tolerate losing someone to nothing more than an accident. "Miss Nalani... miss Nalani, can you hear me?"
