If Rednal had not still been moving, the technique would have blown a large and very painful hole straight through Rednal. However, Rednal took only a gash on the arm instead because he had not stopped moving. He never assumed his opponents had no way to counter unless they were truly disabled from doing so. This one could obviously think on his feet.
Rednal was pleased about the block, however. Twisting his blade so its edge was against his opponent's blade's flat side, the boy smiled as his weapon dug in and cracked his opponent's blade. Heartbreaker let him break things when there wasn't too great of a difference in strength. While a Shikai was indeed much more powerful than a normal blade, this sword in and of itself was not strong enough to resist the spell. Not that it wasn't still quite strong, but Rednal's spells were the subtle side of his own Shikai, and were not so measly themselves.
As soon as he had pulled his blade back, the boy then made two quick slashes, first up and then down, and vanished from sight. Shunpo was quite helpful.

A minute and small crackle came from Egeus. What followed was a instant scream of pain, echoing up into Ugu's flesh through the handle of the soul slayer. Within a second Ugu had the mental might to turn off his shikai, thus shortening the blade by a foot, and allowing his opponent's soul cutter to pass through nothingness of air.
The two pauldrons on Ugu's shoulders misted into nothingness to blend in with his shinigami clothing. Another calm breath came from Ugu's mouth as he remained focused.
His opponent seemed to move in slow motion. Rednal had backed away and was approaching, moving as if he was swimming through water. Rednal attempted a cut went upward, attempting to hurt Ugu's mid section. Then another cut followed the same distance, but in the opposite direction.
But Ugu Zenmaru wasn't there for the cuts to happen. He had used Shunpo to move away from the two cuts, and off to another place inside the 12x12 arena.

"That was unsual," Okuni had concluded after seeing what had happened. She had seen that a crack had been landed on Egeus. Ugu's shikai had been halted.
"I think he should've saved his shikai for later..." She spoke softly as she observed the match, she knew very well that the other shinigami was using boosting spells to himself. To her it was odd for shinigami to things, but if it was a strategy, it was a strategy. She smirked, "Ugu's in trouble, but I think that Rednal is being straightforward with some attacks, shattering Ugu's blade would be original, but according to rules, it's allowable, Let's see what Ugu does next, most likely he has a plan forged," Okuni smirked standing up and walking over to the rail for a closer view.

Rednal had rather expected his opponent's move. Always analyzing the situation with a calm mind and watchful eye, he was well aware of the fact that the technique he was currently using had its weaknesses. Everything did, and boosted or not, he had a knack for knowing what they were. In this case, the opponent had time to get away between the slashes and the follow-up. He knew his opponent hadn't even been hit by the slashes, but that was okay too. They were just there to stagger the opponent to ensure greater accuracy.
Rednal had not teleported to the side. That would have been an incredibly stupid, ridiculously amaturish move and would have totally thrown off his technique. Nope, Rednal was continuing the move despite his opponent's effective dodge. As he appeared in mid-air, the boy waited just a moment to see where his opponent appeared befre slashing down with his sword. As he spoke a single word, "Nemesis!", a wide bolt of white energy shot out of his blade and towards his target.
The wave was far from stadium-shattering (unless it hit a crucial support, of course), but it was plenty to give a nasty wound if it hit its target. He had created the technique after learning his own Shikai's abilities. It was a move that tied in nicely to his theme. And thankfully, the energy wave was quite fast. The question was, was it fast enough?

Ugu appeared on the battleground's floor, ready to be greeted by any of Rednal's attacks. However, he wasn't in his usual 'stance'. The shinigami was on the ground with his legs crosslegged. His buttox was against the still burning timber of the field, keeping himself balanced in his small amount of space. He wasn't standing, his back wasn't straight, and he wasn't even holding his soul cutter to defend against his opponent.
He had closed his eyes. No aura burst from the man's clothing, no mass of spirit energy pressured the area around him, and nor did any 'magick trick' slam his opponent's shoulders into the ground. The giant shinigami remained firm in his position un-harrowed by his opponent's flashy downward cutting attack.
A calm breath left Ugu's mouth to intertwine with the air around him.
Ugu brought his left hand up from his lap. His left hand opened to reveal his large palm, showing its massive amounts of scars accumulated over the past several years of training. Endless days and nights of mind retching training was shown in the single glimpse of Ugu's hand.
And his hand remained open, focused as ever, to catch Rednal's incoming blow. It landed neatly into Ugu's palm and was aptly pushed to the side. Rednal's move then flew away from Ugu to screech away into the sky above the arena, totally missing the stands in which the viewers currently sat in.
"Rednal. Do you wish to quit now?" Ugu asked. His eyes remained closed, and his left hand remained slightly above his shoulder where he had deflected the Zanjutsu. "Because I do not believe that you will receive the chance later to do so. From this point on, if you refuse to surrender, I will be forced to end this match in the most expedient way possible."

Rednal touched down approximately two yards behind his opponent, facing away. "Give up?" he asked calmly. "No, not really. I wasn't all that surprised to see you deflect that beam. It was pretty weak, and was made for use on Hollows anyway." his blade hung down towards the ground, the tip just touching one of the small fires.
"Don't be so full of yourself, though. I broke your Shikai without even pulling out my own." he thought about saying more, but decided against it. Power was not measured in strength alone, Rednal knew. He was far from the strongest person around, but his talents included a lot of spirit energy and a knack for turning situations to his advantage. What was obviously one of his opponent's better moves, his Shikai, had been defeated already. The only wound Rednal had taken was a small gash on his arm.
He was quite far from defeated. Beyond that, Rednal did not like losing. All his life, he had been dubbed mediocre. A weakling, lacking the artful grace, raw strength, or other talents other people had. For some, years of this would have broken them. Rednal simply took it in stride and decided that he would become as powerful as possible to prove them wrong. If he was going to accomplish such a goal, giving up would not help. His aura faded, then flared up again as he spoke a few words so softly even he almost didn't hear them.
"Platinum Singer. Ghost Diver."
The boy turned around and got into a ready position, the same he had used before. Ein Sou was held out in front of him in an incredibly basic stance. A strange glint was in Rednal's eyes.

Bukotsu was rather surprised, walking up to the rail with Okuni he smiled lightly, "The match just became more interesting..." Bukotsu said referring to how Rednal had opened shikai. He himself observing the match go on.
"From this view however, to me it seem's like a test of wills at this point," Bukotsu said as he watched the match go on, "At this point, Ugu seems like he's in trouble," Bukotsu said as he watched Rednal make his move.

"Bukotsu, I can see that..." Okuni said smiling as she lightly punched his arm in humor. She leaned lightly over to Bukotsu for support, feeling a bet drowzy and tired she had used him as a support to keep in awake.
"Well..You're right, it now does seem more interesting..." She said yawning slightly. She couldn't really tell if she was awake or not, she was just like this after eating a rather large meal.
"You know, this is getting interesting, but I don't think I can stay awake..." She said as she closed her eyes a bit. Her zanpaktou was shaking alittle as she was slight awakened by the rattling of her sword.

Ugu remained sitting. He brought down his hands and folded them together on his lap. Ugu's breathing remained constant and unnervingly calm as he remained focused. All around him the voices of the crowd entered an eerie silence. The small and dying out flames around him then instantly died out as a small wind flew in from the north.
His clothing ruffled from the slightly cold wind. Ugu put a minute amount of his reiatsu into his feet readying for a flash-step attack.

Rednal moved only those muscles that he couldn't control. Some people claimed to not move a single muscle sometimes, something the young Shinigami found incredibly unlikely. Nobody controlled their body that well. Nobody. Period. Instead, he simply remained still, in his basic stance. Switching to either offense or defense at a moment's notice would be simple for him. The boy then began speaking quietly under his breath.
And Rednal waited. He would wait as long as was necessary to defeat his opponent. Though, he thought wryly, he probably wouldn't have to wait too long.

((Thank you, Kenoshi_Kai, for the compliment.))
"So it is final." Ugu move his right hand to his soul cutter. He placed his left hand a few inches beneath the small gap at the top of the sheath. He slid his weapon a foot out of its sheath in preparation for the space needed for his oncoming technique. The barely shown edge, away from his opponent's sight, glinted with a small glow as it entered shikai once more.
Two pauldrons formed on his shoulders. Each piece of armor fumed from the man's shoulders, covering the stout neck of Ugu Zenmaru. "... Chishio Sakurifaisu," the shinigami muttered as he brought out his shikai's lone move.
The 'gash on the arm', which was located on Rendal's person, would begin to bleed more blood than it had been over the past few moments. Before half a second was over the blood from within Rednal would splatter out of the seemingly light gash. Several litres instantly vacated Rendal's body, and went away from him, as accordance with Ugu's shikai's ability.
Ugu Zenmaru then used the flash step he was building up. He appeared roughly a foot behind his opponent. His left hand lazily rested on the hilt of his sword. The man left his right hand at his side, not moving it. He watched as the spurting current of red-watter flew from his opponent's shoulder and onto the sparse foot of blade that his sheath didn't cover.
Upon contacting his soul cutter the blood would vanish. Each droplit, every small cell of blood, would give up their life force to Ugu.

There was a bright flash of light from Rednal's shoulder and his sword as Zenmaru's attack took effect. Only a small amount of blood splashed towards the exposed blade before the wound was stopped. Rednal was more surprised than his opponent probably was, but a moment of quick thought answered the question. Ghost Diver. Definitely the most useful of his spells, it had gone beyond what he thought it did to fulfill its function. He felt a bit more drained than he should have, because it had needed more energy to perform its duty, but it had worked.
Ghost Diver's power was countering all attacks. Nasty technique. Like the others, the truest way past it was overloading it, but this hadn't been enough; and while it drained a lot more energy than his other spells because it was so much stronger, Rednal's regular practice with it had built up his raw spiritual energy. Zenmaru almost had overridden the spell, but there was tw more facets of it he probably hadn't counted on, even had he known the spell. First, Platinum Singer was also active. A companion spell, it raised his physical and spiritual defense. That gave a boost to Ghost Diver's ability. On top of that, Rednal had not been muttering nonsense under his breath. Hanging in his hand was a glimmering pair of golden blades. "Ein Sou." the boy said. His Sacred Spells were part of his Shikai, and when that was unbound, they were stronger. Zenmaru had pulled an incredibly good move on Rednal, and under almost any circumstance, it probably would have worked.
His error was sitting down like he had. Rednal was cautious, not headstrong. Instead of preparing for an attack of his own, he had chosen to do all he could to thwart Zenmaru's next move. It had been obvious he was planning something nasty, and the boy did not want to get hit by it. If he hadn't revealed he was going to do something that way, it would likely have taken Rednal out then and there.
Instead.... apparent coup de grace.
The boy did a flash-step of his own and moved behind his opponent. The boy crossed his blades a moment later so that Zenmaru's head was between them. "Do you wish to quit now?" he asked wryly. "If you refuse to surrender, I will be forced to end this match in the most expedient way possible."

The 'small amount of blood' from Rednal gash made its way to Ugu's sword. It evaporated upon contact and gave new energy to the shinigami giant.
However, there are two things to note before Ugu's counter. Ugu was 7'1 feet tall. Rednal on the other hand was 5'8. 10 inches separated the tips of their heads. So, obviously, Rednal was stretching to place his split shikai-blades on Ugu's neck. Along with the height difference Ugu also had his own shikai 'turned on'. That meant that Rednal had to have been stretching more-so to overcome the three foot long pauldrons.
Rednal had done a very good job of opening an attack venue for Ugu to strike. Ugu's left hand twisted and wrenched his blade, scattering several splinters, so that his blade broke from its bondage. His hand twitched, blurring from sight, to tear into the flesh of his opponent.
As his sword whizzed toward, and most probably into, his opponent the build up of blood being blocked by the Ghost Diver technique began to head toward a maximum point. The Chishio Sakurifaisu technique was countered. However, though, the technique was not stopped. The blood in Rednal's body still wanted to escape and to touch Ugu's soul cutter.
The human (spirit?) body only contained 6 litres of blood. Roughly half a litre had escaped already and had already made contact with Ugu's edge. The other 5.5 litres welted up against Rednal's 'all-powerful-and-all-mighty-defensive-countering-doo-hickey-of-destruction', dying to be released from their master's body. Rednal's blood also began to flee from the man's brain, as well, as it continued to attempt to push the wall blocking their path.
That attack still left Ugu's right hand free. It pointed its pointer finger upwards to aim at Rednal's right elbow. ".... Hadou 4: White Lightning." The fiery lightning bolt shattered the scenery to head up toward his opponent's exposed and over stretched arm.
After a quarter of a second Ugu then moved, with a fairly rapid flash step, to the other side of the field. He turned, facing his opponent with ever calm green eyes. Ugu let out a comfortable breath that hinted of no taxation of his mental, physical, or spirit strength. He remained focused, unperturbed by anything in his surroundings.
A light cut formed on Ugu's chin. It, however, seemed to have been filled with a strange reddish paste.
