Sid slapped the book closed and slid it back into the shelf. So now he knew and... yeah, he only felt worse for it. He sucked back a little spit again, closed his mouth as much as he could stand, but those teeth were always at the edge of his vision when he did.
He walked over and sat down, putting a fair amount of space between himself and Nita. He laid his cane across his lap, freeing his hands so he could rest them on his knees.
"Okay..." he said. It was that or late the uncomfortable silence drag.
Unfortunately, he had no idea what to say.
"s**t."
Except for that.

Geez, why couldn't she just keep her mouth shut? But then... it really was an obvious thread of conversation.
Nita shut the book and nodded at Sid. "Yeah. Pretty much."
She gave him a one-armed shrug, still not willing to look him in the face. "Sorry, man."

"Eh." Nita shrugged again, examining a piece of lint on the cushion. "Well, uh... I've got my books, so I'm gonna go." She bit her lip and hauled herself up, still having to consciously compensate for the way her heavy tail changed her center of gravity.
She made her way to the door, books under one arm, before turning back to Sid. "So, um, yeah. See ya 'round, I suppose."

Sid nodded and tried to put on a more chipper expression. "Yeh, ssee ya..." He lifted a hand in a half-assed wave, and once he was alone again he opted to try and get his mind off things with a movie.
Which, granted, didn't help much.
