what about the makeups? I think DOD's make up is very good, but different makeup artist produce different result. my friend's DOD's eye socket aren't fully colored (the inside part of the...what you call it? the pinkish area under the eyeball) but I think her doll is perfect the way she is... 3nodding

I have to agree that DOD dolls don't look anything like they do on the website. I had a Too & Bee-A and my main problem with them is that they just looked so porcelain doll like. Their faceups are very pink and unattractive, though I have seen some DOD with custom faceups that I haven't hated. Their bodies are stiff and very solid, their knees lock well, they pose fairly well, and their hands are wonderful, but their faces have a very DOLL-like quality to them that I just can't appreciate. The pictures on the website make them look much nicer than they do in person.
My advice? Find someone in your area that has one and see it in person before you purchase. They really just aren't for everyone.

You can get a better idea of what they look like in person from there.

death, do you own a BDJ?
Does anyone know where I could buy a shall for a cheaper price? I really want one but the sites post high prices. I'm kinda low on budget.

I'm kinda low on budget. hmm...sometimes on DOA they'll have a little cheaper priced dolls- since they're used.. But I mean..I'm not sure if you can buy one that's wayyy lower in price. I think just saving up for one, and waiting that extra week, month, or year or so is worth it. but that's just me D;

With BJD you aren't usually going to find dolls at cheaper prices. Even on the secondhand market they usually go for nearly as much as they do on the website unless there is something seriously wrong. With this hobby you really have to be ready to spend a lot of money...

Actually I think my T. Yen looks more or less as advertised. If anything I think he's cuter in person. I got him with a face up from DOD in brown tones, so it's a bit darker than the one on the website, but I was expecting that. This is probably the best picture I have of him. http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f132/egldoll/webtristan001.jpg

I mean that they don't look like what they look like on the website quality wise. (My friend has a Yen, who has a really, really iffy faceup.) I know that Tog was unimpressed when she got her twins due to the sheer amount of resin dust that was in their packaging. That's actually quite dangerous. I guess some of it could stem to bad photography on most owner's parts... But I personally don't care for many of them even in person. (However Tog's Youko owns me, and I like her Kazu lots.) I'm really not fond of their nose+eye+lip setup. Here are some I took of Tog's Kazu, a T Too. http://astro.owlmanatt.com/Kazuya/

Hand-made, if I remember correctly. Ah well, it all matters with one's opinion I guess

Herr Astro I've found that DoDs don't look a thing like they do on the website. False advertisement, yo. I have a Fullset Shall and she looks EXACTLY like the one on the site. And, seeing that she's a Fullset -- (so she has the exact wig, outfit, makeup, everything) I think that's a pretty good indicator of whether or not their advertisment is honest 3nodding My other two look slightly different because of different faceups, etc, but I don't think it has anything to do with their advertising (except that their photographer is a lot better than I am). 1. Any problems that were encountered with your DOD in terms of shipping/quality of resin/posing/etc, if there were any.Nope. All three were well-packaged and all pose nicely. I find that my DODs have extremely strong resin, dispite being dropped and played with often. However, I know that some people have had major problems so I think their resin is different from batch to batch. I think that answer pretty much negates the other two. I think it's safe to order from DOD, but if you do happen to have a problem email them about it immedietly. 99% of the time they are very good about replacing the part or fixing the problem. Don't just be like "Oh well I guess that's too bad." If a company messes up your doll you deserve to have the problem fixed.

Ah well, it all matters with one's opinion I guess It's all "hand-made". They just put more effort in on their "show" dolls, and send you something that isn't as high quality, as opposed to other companies whose doll faceups look nearly identical to their model/prototype on the website.

i have a d.o.d. tender zen and my only problems were:
1.) since she is a female, she came with long silver curled hair. the hair went all frazzly really quick
2.) she was strung a bit too tight, so when i tried restringing her, i lost hold of the string that holds the arms together so now her arms are all loose. . .
3.) [it could just be me but] i still cant restring her back to normal ;___;
