Richard wasn't sure if Seth got the point but wasn't about to press it.

He shot Seth an annoyed glance at the tech lecture. People always assumed he was computer illiterate and it got tiresome. Why the hell did he have his laptop out here anyway? What was the use of it. Richard wrote most things out long hand first but had been web publishing for eight years now.

Richard shrugged, "I have one, the labs got my satillite phone and modem though. Fat lotta good it does me now."

"Oh, you already have have one? That's even better." Seth grinned. "What kind?" His face fell suddenly. "Oh god, please tell me it's not one of those bloody iBooks. I swear to god that Apple makes the worst crap ever. About the only good thing they did was the iPod, and any generic brand MP3 player can do the same task for about a third of the cost. It's a complete scam I tell you."

Seth set his glass aside and placed the laptop down on the bench in front of him. "This one's quite useless now in terms of its original purpose. I used it for wireless internet connectivity, but yeah, as you said, the labs have no outside access so that's bunk now. But it can still be used for stuff, like..." He paused, taking his laptop back off the counter, setting it back down on the bar stool beside him. "You know." He spoke in a barely audible voice and gave Richard a subtle, but very deliberate wink. "Making logs of those boats on the horizon, if you get my drift."

"What Duplex number are you in anyway?"

Richard never got the mac vs. pc wars. Macs usually worked no questions asked, pcs did too just not quite as often. Sipping his scotch, "Its a power book pro, if you must know." Richard rolled his eyes.

Richard didn't trust eletronic sercuity as far as he could throw a mainframe. The labs could hack his laptop and he'd be none the wiser. At least if they read the journal, they'd be misplaced slightly.

"I'm in Duplex 70."

Seth seemed dissapointed as the other man mentioned the Power Book Pro. He would have said more about how much he hated Apple products, but he could sense Richard was beginning to get annoyed with him.

"Wow, 70? I'm in room numer 65. Everyone I've met so far had a number lower than mine. I guess they keep suckering people into coming here, huh?" He shook his head. "But 70, yeah. will have to remember that. I'll keep you informed if something interesting happens."

He rose to his feet, a bit uneasy with his balance at first, thanks to the alcohol in his system. Though he wasn't by any means drunk, so he was still quite able to keep himself together.
"Anyway, I must be on my way. This damn humidity is driving me bonkers and I want to retreat back to the air-conditioning in my room." He picked up his laptop, tucking it under his left arm. He also reached down to pick up the bottle of whiskey he had placed on the floor beside him earlier, intending to take it with him.

He offered out his hand towards Richard, intending to shake his hand. "It's been really nice meeting you. I hope we meet up again, you seem like a really smart guy."

Richard shook Seth's hand with an iron grip. "You take care and don't be stupid." There was a threat in Richard's eyes for a barest instant and when was gone, replace by a smiling old man. "I'll be seeing you around. Neither of us are going anywhere for a bit."

Richard release the hand and turned back to his drink on the bar.

Seth seemed a little surprised at Richard's grip when they shook hands. Nevertheless, he still gave him a genuine friendly grin. He was a little wary of the brief look he had been given, but he figured his directions were probably for the best.

"Indeed, it would seem that way. Don't like being stuck here, but eh." Seth nodded, breaking the handshake again. "Oh well, I at least know where you live now, I'll keep you informed. You can be sure of that."

He headed away from the bar, turning his head back to give Richard a friendly wave. "Cheers, mate." He grinned. And with that, he headed back down the well-worn path, intending to return to his duplex.
