By the way, in the 'how he gets to the island' part Indonesia is in the correct general area of the Island, according to the novel by H.G. Wells. I've read through the whole book to make this character the best he can be.

I now how you feel. ^^ I'll gladly feed the hungry, hungry critique monster.
I feel your character has a very interesting work field. My only consern is how he got two phd's in the set time. I havent gone to college or anything, but my mother does. From what I understand is it takes quite a long time. my mother has been working at english for about five years and she's just getting her masters. From what I understand sciences and such take longer.
Even with shortcuts it would take a good while. Perhaps, like you said, adding a few years to that would help flesh him out a little.
What about his past? Tell us about his child-hood. What intreagued him in natural desasters? Whats his family like? That would also help bring your character to life.
As far as grants go, perhaps he was working for someone but they were pritty leanient on sceduals. With little income sources getting cool gadgets and planning long adventures it seems pritty unlikely he'd be able to keep it up for long. Perhaps he was on governmental funding for his research on natural desasters and what not? I think a little research would reveal several ways to earn funding for expeditions.
Good luck on your quest. ^^

I just had a system crash and lost my full response. gah. Here's a new (slightly condensed) versionL
- childhood - never thought of adding it. If people are interested, though, I'll see about making one. - interest in natural disasters - I wrote the reasons up but it seemed to verbose for the profile. I could re - add it soon. - family - I was going to add that in the 'additional information' post, but haven't gotten around to it yet. Other things I'll include are possesions and other non-critical background info.
As for the PhD timeframe: sciences don't take longer, they take the same time or very slightly shorter, but not really in this case. Assuming he was 18 when he started, 4 years of bachelor, 1-2 years each of two masters, and 2 years each of PhDs. Now, because of the master's shrinkage i discussed in another post, 3 years for both a PhD and master's is acceptable in real life and is normal practice. 18+4+3+3 = 28. That means the current 26 should be increased by 2. So 31 as a final age might work well. There are few people on the island over the 30-hump.
As for the resources.. I'm not sure about that.

I guess I deleted that part when I wasn't chosen during the October Flaffle. As of yet, we don't know HOW the eel discharges the electricity. we know scientifically what happens with the current, but as to how the eel chooses to discharge is a mystery. If Moreau could unlock that power... organic power cells? clean fuel? who knows!
