The shape moves away as well, and another more obvious shape takes place underneath the feathers. Still the glass is dirty, but it's getting clearer by the second...

Tobias blinks rapidly as he pulls the mirror into view again.

"Well, there we go," he mutters as the picture grows clearer to show a wing. It takes him a few minutes to realize that his own wings, which he'd presumed the mirror was reflecting, are neatly pressed up against his back.

Slightly weirded out and with a sharp bite of his lip, Tobias sets down the mirror on the first flat surface he sets eyes on, coincidentally it being back on the sidetable where he first picked it up from.

"Where the hell'd Turtle get that.. thing? It wasn't showing me my reflection, or not the one in front of it, anyway.." Certainly confused, bewildered, and raising questions, Tobias takes a step back from the table with his back turned for a moment in panicked thought.

The haze vanishes completely when Tobias turns around, as a real reflection of a boy fades in. A boy that is right there behind him the second he steps back, and he almost bumps into him.
And a quick look shows a t-shirt that is not lime colored? It's a different shade of green? And hair taken after a different family member? Is that a hint at a rebellious streak behind those silver eyes, or is he trying to please more than one person? There's also a pale shell necklace around his neck, carved into a slight round hook with a shiny shell surface on the underside.

Elijah doesn't wait long, he's soon tugging on Tobias' arm. "Hello."

PostPosted: Sat Oct 16, 2004 5:42 pm

He didn't mean to, really he didn't. It just.. came out.

"Yeee-AGHH!" Tobias yelps at the tug on his shirt, nearly going into cardiac arrest from the appearance of this boy in his room. Breathing deeply, folded over with his hands on his knees, he tries to regain himself before he can go ahead and ask who the hell let the kid into his room.

.. But, the wings.

Standing up briefly with a step back, he looks over the boy in an extended silence, one probably very awkward for the newcomer.

"Can I ask your name?" Tobias finally says, an expression of total fear and bewilderment across his face.

The boy raises an eyebrow slightly, hands resting on his waist. "My name's Elijah, sir."

Tobias shivers a little, shaking his head gently. "Call me Tobias. Or Tobes. Or Toby. Anything but sir.." He drags out a chair from his, offering to the boy. "Now, explain how you got inside my room.. please?" His voice slightly strains in an attempt to keep from jumping to conclusions.

Elijah sits down as asked, his legs dangling and swing no where near the ground. Tobias doesn't notice, as he's too busy pacing around the chair in the middle of the room.

"I came from my mirror, si- Tobias," Elijah finally, and simply, explains. The older boy stops to give him a questioning look before moving away from the interrogation scene to the mirror. Blank, at the moment.

He turns back, Elijah's inquiring eyes on him the whole time. "Okay, so say you were telling the truth.."

"I am. I got not reason to lie to you," Elijah retorts softly.

.. "Fine, however you'd like to play. You can't be coming out of this room just yet.. I mean, it's not like anyun'd notice another body around here-"

At the talk of a "body," Elijah slightly freaks. Body? Tobias quickly corrects himself, realizing he'll need to tone down his speech with this one.

"I mean, a person. Another person around. There are.. what, how many now? I've lost count.. But I've got to bring this up with Dad or Mum first." Tobias moves to his closet; having one of the more spacious rooms of the house, a guest cot is often shoved into his space. Dragging it out to the far wall, he brushes off a few dust mites before pulling back the sheets.

Elijah raises from his chair, replacing it back where his mentor had taken it, and obediantly sits on the side of the bed. After a few moments of no movement, he finally speaks up again. "You gonna watch me do everything?"

Tobias jumps back in responce. "No, no, I'm sorry. I've- I've just had a rough and very weird day.." With a shake of his head, he flips off the lights.

"Tobias?"

Silence.

".. Tobias?"

A hoarse, waking voice finally comes in reply. "Y-yeah kid? Something botherin' you?"

It's the middle of the night, and the room completely black. The window didn't do any justice to the situation as the moon is hanging high on the opposite side of the building. Thus, only the silohette of the boy can be noticed.

"What's it like here?"

".. Can't this wait 'til morning?"

A slight sigh. "Okay.."

Sheets ruffle as Tobias rolls over, brushing his bangs from his eyes. "No, now that you got me woken up, I'll answer what you want to know.." He shuffles before starting, staring at the ceiling. It is decorated by tiny glow in the dark stars to immitate that of the night sky, doing a wonderful job tonight especially.

"It's great here. Lots of people, sure, but then there's always someun around for you if you need them. And since this place is so big, it leaves you room - for a little while anyway - to find some privacy if needed."

"Okay," comes Elijah's slightly hesitated reply. Intimidating is more like it, he thinks silently. He didn't mention sneaking out to peek into bedrooms, getting a nice look at all the sleeping family he'd enherited.

"Now, lemme ask you one. How old are you? Or, er, think you are?"

Elijah shrugs, forgetting he can't be seen. "Unno. Seven? Eight? I can't remember."

Tobias doesn't push the subject. "You'll like it here. Now.. anything else or will y'let me get some sleep?"

"Nothing that can't wait," Elijah responds, already drifting away into sleep.

It was the end of a rainy day, and you step outside for just a moment to see if the rain had finally let up. Just as you do so, you notice a small package carefully wrapped in plastic to keep the rain out, sitting on your door step. You recognize the familiar "Through the Looking Glass" stationary, on which is written:

Note in Emme's round print

Dear Tobias and Elijah,
I was watching the shop today when Sao Kasai came by to drop off these adorable little dolls! She made one for each of the children. Despite the weather, I couldnt' wait to give them out! I wrapped up Elijah's Doll very carefully. Enjoy!

A woman wonders to your front door and leaves something on your doorstep. You open the door to see what it is and discover a black box wrapped with a red bow. You pick it up and bring it inside, a bit weary of what may lay inside... You open the box and see purple wrapping tissue paper, a sheet of crimson stationary laying ontop of it all.
note

Greetings!
I seem to have made something that might be to you and your child's liking. Do not worry, nothing will explode in your face or jump out and bite you. smile Hope you enjoy your present!
*PS: I made one for every child*

Tobias carries in both dolls that'd arrived during the night. Wow, these people are fast..

Opening the door to his room, he peers in, over his shoulder, then steps into the room quickly. Flicking on the lights, he finds it odd that not only were they off, but his window is covered and taped up with a pillow case.

".. What, might I ask, is going on?" He talks in a hushed voice, as if he raised it, he might draw attention.

Elijah raises his head, having had his arms crossed behind it; he is lying across Tobias' bed.

".. I really like your stars. When the dark went away, I still wanted to see them, so I made it dark again."

Tobias silently wonders what he got himself into, then drops the two dolls on the bed. "For you.. and of you. Seems you got some admirers."

Elijah scrunches up his face at the sight of them being dolls, but proceeds to play with the feathered wings on the bigger one in silence. Giving it a few good minutes, Tobias just walks to the door shaking his head. Once his hand touches the knob, he turns around.

"I'm going to talk with Dad. Or Mum, whomever I see first. Don't.. mess anything up?" He makes it sound more like a question than a request, Elijah nodding understandingly before further examining the wings of his doll. The older boy leaves after shutting off the lights again, opening and shutting the door as quickly as when he came in.

Lying on his back again, Elijah lifts the bigger him-doll into the air, make-believing it was really him, up there in the universe, flying..

A car pulled up to the driveway of the house, and put the car in park while Zanna hurried out of the car and placed a letter on the doorstop, and before she left, she set a clean rock down on the parchment so it wouldn't blow away. Inside the envelope is a purple piece of stationary with black cursive writing on it.

Letter
Dear Tobias and Elijah,

Zanna and I, X (Zanna's gaurdian), would like to invite you and your child to an impromptu get together with us and as many other Simulacra and their gaurdians (or just gaurdians depending on the stage) as possible. Hopefully you will be able to make it. The party will be at my estate and you are welcome to drop by whenever you can, gifts are not needed, but I would ask you to bring some sort of food dish, since I cannot cook to save my life. It is this Friday and Saturday, from noon Friday to Saturday whenever. Call me with questions and RSVP ((PM)), directions are on the back.

Thanks and hope to see you,

X, Zanna, and the rest of the family.

Zanna hurried back to the car, they had many more places to go still!

((Hope it was okay to post this.))

((He can be awake during this, and anyone else can see the imprint she's left behind. But he'll forget what she whispered...

And he'll have the craving to fly. O_O It doesn't matter how you RP him doing it, he can jump off his bed or off the roof, he'll be able to now. Have fun giving other characters heart attacks with his sudden choice to do something that seems crazy. XD))

A woman sits on Elijah's bed late one night, and relaxes where she sits. She can only be seen by him, but she still leaves an imprint where she's sitting, her warmth feeding into the bed.

She doesn't move for a long time, watching him and the room. Then the woman leans down, brushes the hair off his face, strokes the wings, whispers something and then vanishes again.

Elijah shivers up against his sheets, his dream fading away as his consciousness returns and he awakens from the deep sleep he was experiencing. His eyes open and focus long enough to catch a glimpse of the sudden warm body on his cot-like bed against the far wall. Above him, the faux stars are beginning to let their light fade.

His deep green eyes widen at the sudden realization as the woman, whoever she was, vanishes in his sight.

The boy has since become an accepted member of the family, despite Tobias' worries of what the others might think. However, he is under the full responsibility of the still-young adventurer. Elijah had been warned never to stray far from his guardian's sight, at least not until he's learned all he needs to know.

His bed is tucked neatly under the window, Tobias' more centred in the room. Quickly glancing at the sleeping figure in the larger bed, the boy pushes back the increasingly cool sheets and stands up on the mattress. Staring out into the night, pitch black as it is, he fingers in the darkness for the lock of the window. It clicks lightly, but even at the slightest sound he nervously and immediately checks for the awakening of his guardian.

Nothing. A triumphant smile creeps over the boy's half shadowed face as he succeeds to pull open the window without any disturbance to the other in the room.

It'll only be a little while, he assures himself. No one will even notice I'm missing..

He swings a leg out the window, pulling the rest of his body through the rigid frame. His bare feet hit the cold roofing tiles, and he doesn't allow himself more time than a shiver before whipping the window closed. Cold air penetrates his pajamas, but he shrugs it off, trading it in for the wind against his wings.

And without more than a brief thought, he is gone.

Nothing can explain the thrill of the first flight. Elijah feels himself being lifted into the air, weightless compared to how he'd been just moments before. His wings, working almost not at all, are tireless and adapt to the cool autumn winds of the night.

"How cool is this?!" breathes the boy, excitedly forgetting to be cold as he examines the view from so high above the rest. He raises slower than before, hovering gently to examine the roof of his house.

Grinning toothfully, Elijah fingers the pendant at the end of his necklace, the one he wears at all times. A power, an energy so indescribable overcomes him as he ventures on into the night.

There is much exploring to be done!

In the daylight, he isn't allowed to do much. For having a guardian who is such an adventurer, Elijah is disappointed in how little he's actually "allowed" to do because of Tobias' cautioned rules. Well, we'll see who's rules I'm going by, now! he scoffs gently in his head.

Closing in on the end of the meadow behind the house, he lowers a few dozen feet just above the leaves of the forest presiding along the border of the property. Taking precautions, he first scopes out the house.. no, no one's noticed. Next he takes a peek through the autumn leaves; seeing no immediate danger, he backs up to a considerable heigh, arches his wings, and takes a nosedive.

Plummetting is an even better adventure than the actual flying, at least at this moment. Elijah feels the air rush against his body, rippling his clothing as he freefalls dangerously. Nothing can stop him from becoming a pancake on the ground, save the poking branches of the trees below. Howling noisily, his wings spring out at the last minute and cushion his body, his legs twisting almost back in place.

Standing suspended in the air, wings beating against his back, there is nothing that can wipe this grin off of Elijah's face. Nothing in the world can bring his spirits down now. The thrill of the first flight is still fresh in memory, and much of the night is remaining to continue it.

A gentle tap is felt twice on Elijah's shoulder.

The fright of the moment almost forces his wings to stop beating immediately; he's glad they didn't, otherwise he would have actually experienced that crash he deserved from the previous death-defying stunt. Slowly, ever so slowly, he turns around to meet what had tapped him.

Mimicing the suspended-in-air pose, Tobias looks firmly down on the boy. Fatigue and irritation are obvious on his face, his arms crossed against his dark red shirt.

"Enjoying yourself?" he mutters, neutrally. It's hard to tell if he's being serious about the question.

Swallowing at the lump in his throat, Elijah decides it's better to truthfully explain. "See, this lady, she came and.. well, she visited me in my bed! And she said --" he strokes his chin, something he's adopted from the guardian himself, ".. Well, I don't remember what it was she said, but I really wanted to fly and, and you never let me go out and do anything and I thought if I'd.."

Tobias raises his hand as a signal to stop talking. " 'Nough, kiddo. Just stop rambling." He sighs gently, weariness taking over his anger. "All you had to do was ask. I would have taught you to fly, myself.. You could've gotten yourself hurt just now. Don't think I don't hear you, sneaking out.. I'm part hawk, after all."

Elijah frowns, his brow scrunching up slightly. He knows the puppy-face won't work, but it never hurts to do with. "A'right, Tobias.. I'm sorry I done an' sneaked off."

Feathers ruffle as the wind decides to change its course slightly.

The older boy rolls his eyes. "Oh, come off it. You're obviously talented, taking off right away like that. Just don't use nonsense about some woman.. you're not getting women in your bed 'til you're much, MUCH older."

The younger makes a disgusted face. "That's not what I meant! And she was real, honest!" he insists, hating the notion of him being thought of as a liar.

Tobias just laughs quietly into the night sky, taking a quick look at the moon from this angle. "Sure, kid, sure.." He drops his eyes back to the boy in his care and custody, giving another one of his famous unreadable expressions. "Tonight's a nice clear night. Best not to waste it, they're rarer come the winter. What do you say?"

Both already knew the answer to that.

Elijah lies on his back, stretched out across the soft surface of the downstairs living room. He hadn't bothered to take off his shoes when he came back inside - heck, they shouldn't have gotten a white couch if they didn't want it to get dirty. One arm dangles off the edge, his knuckles not coming close to the ground at this height. His eyes are locked on the moving images across the television set.

"Snowstorm coming on through, moving in from the northwest .. -crackle- .. Seventeen centimetres of snow is predicted to fall between tonight and early morning .."

Groaning, Elijah bats at the TV switcher lazily, hoping his frigid fingers will touch one of the buttons and change to a less depressing channel. Snow and cold temperatures = no flying for this boy, thus leaving him a hawk trapped indoors, impatient to fly.

"Augh. Might'az well'a clipped my wings!" complains the Simu, staring up as the white flakes already begin to grace the window pane. His left hand finally reaches the right button (after crossing the volume, VCR, closed captioning, and Spanish option - twice..) and the television set flickers to life with the starting of the movie Homeward Bound.

Fidgeting with a disgruntled contentment, he makes himself comfortable. Outside, the grass slowly disappears underneath a soft blanket of white..

This will be interesting.
