The Naming

It's been three days now and the little....thing, for want of a better word is just as mischevious as ever, except now it doesn't have the restrictions of a crystal ball to hold it back. After long deliberation, I decided to call it Stipticus. It's the latin name for a rare breed of glowing mushroom, I thought it suited my new companion as he glows quite brightly when night falls, and in many ways it does resemble a mushroom, because it looks a little weird and it grows on you. Only joking. In any case the creature seemed to like the name so it sort of stuck.

User ImageIt has beeen eight days now since I first received the orb that once contained my small companion. Since then Stipticus has been very troublesome, especially in the kitchen. My suspicions that it is a fungus fairy were confirmed as he likes to walk across all the perishable foods and tiny patches of mould start growing in it's footprints. If I didn't need to eat it would be quite a nifty little trick but as it stands it has become quite annoying. It even works on apples.

User ImageWell it came as a great surprise to everyone involved today as we found out that Stipticus is a female. Even the little glowing ball of trouble herself was a little taken aback. But she certainly is cute though. It seems that Stippy as we like to call her now is learning more and more each day.
She can repeat pretty much any word I say to her now which is a little unfortunate if people cuss in when she's around. Why do children always pick up on the rude words?
Another matter entirely is whether she understands what the words she's learning mean. Sometimes I think she's getting there. Her favourite words are "awesome" when she likes something but at the moment she calls everything "Sho". So now the kettle, the fridge, the sofa and the cat are all named Sho.
she still makes cute noises most of the time though. I've figured out that she says "Gwaah" when she doesn't like something and "Ki" when she's confused or hungry...or just trying to be cute.

Days have gone by and Stipticus continues to learn at an astonishing rate. Not only can she repeat new words but she can also understand what some of them mean. I probably sound like an overly proud mother but it's just fascinating.
We made up a little bed for her out of an old wicker basket. I tried letting her sleep in my room but those glowing thingies on her skin just won't switch off and it keep me awake at night. So the study has been converted into a makeshift nursery which suits everyone a lot better.

Well Stippy has been on her best behaviour lately so she can come to the Christmas ball with me. I've never been to the Labyrinth before so it's all very new and exciting. Stipticus on the other seems to act as if she's been there all her life, and maybe she has, who knows. It is the place where she came from after all.

Well, the little undera can talk a lot better now, as she can say simple words and phrases. Mostly things like, "I'm hungry" and where's Sho?" but thats only to be expected.

I can't believe it, Stipticus has grown so much these past few weeks. She's grown from teh size of baby to about the size of a five year old. And she's intelligent as well, as she speaks perfect english now and is able to help me around the house.

This week I came hoome to see her sitting at the kitchen table with Sho drawing pretty pictures. "Look mummy, this one's of you!" she cried excitedly. It was only a stick figure with a skirt and circles for hands and feet drawn in purple felt tip pen, but to me it was the cutest thing I'd ever seen.

"And who's that?" I asked, pointing to angry little red squiggle.

"That's Sho-chan!" she giggled happily, I had to admit it was a good likeness.

"And that's you in beween us, is it?" I said, pointing to a much smaller figure drawn in blue.

"Yep, I drew the whole family." she replied, it was true, we really had become like a family. Maybe, deep down in my heart, that was what I had been wishing for.

A few months have past and Stippy is already able to read and write perfectly. I do my best to teach her but I get the feeling that she's already more intelligent than me. so now I just fetch her books from the library and leave her to it. Her favourite subjects are history and world literature. I suspect it's quite difficult to understand science when you come from another world entirely. Sho comes in sometimes to give her art lessons, and the three of us like to play music together. Stippi is turning out to be quite the musician.

Stippy has been awefully moody recently. She often locks herself in her room and is prone to sulking. I really don't understand why. Maybe this is some kind of undera puberty she's experiencing. I may have to ask around about this, maybe the girls grow faster than the boys like they do with humans. Or maybe it's something else entirely.

Stipticus seems to have settled down a bit, but her mood swings are a little unpredictable. She used to be such a cheerful little creature but when she's in a bad mood things tend to fly around the house of their own accord. That could prove to be dangerous, as she's discovring what her powers are and although they're on a small scale I think we should find someone who can teach her to use them, Sho and I being mere mortals and all.

Stippy has been practising very hard with her magic skills. She's very good at using water but she also seems to generate her own magnetic field and static electricity which is why things start flying when she's angry.

Stippy and I were making sweets today to celebrate the six month anniversary of having her here. I know it's not quite a birthday but I though we should do something special for her. However she didn't seem to be very well as the day drew to a close and quickly went to bed. I wonder what could be wrong.
