That morning Widow took the crystal while Kuroko got ready for the day, coming down stairs looking like she was going to a party hosted by the undead. Widow was seated at the table, an eyebrow raised as Kuroko stuck her tongue out at him. "At least I'm not wearing a giant eyeball on my head." That got a laugh out of Widow. "Heaven forbid you ever go anywhere with me with an eyeball on your head."

Kuroko had just seated herself when she looked at the table top. There, resting on a napkin, was the crystal. She blinked at it, then looked up at Widow. She pointed at it, frowning. "What do you think it is anyway?" Widow shrugged. "I don't know... at one point I was hoping it was just some child's plastic play thing. But it's too heavy to be plastic, and besides..." He smirked lightly. "I don't think plastic gives you nightmares." Kuroko would have throw food at him is she had any infront of her, which then reminded her that she was hungry. She stood, pouting. "Come on, don't poke fun, Widow."

They had a pleasent breakfast of macaroni and cheese, seeing as Kuroko did not believe in having breakfast foods for breakfast. For the whole time they talked about the crystal, making jokes about what it could be or where it could have come from. "I swear it's aliens! Like that Ron Bruise guy!" Kuroko shuddered. "Grade A creepy dude." "... Are you sure he's a alien? He seems nice." Kuroko merely stared at Widow as if he had just grown an extra head. "Dude... he talks about the future of humanity. Humanity! And he can shoot lightning out of his hands!" "It's just a doctored picture." "My balls it's not!" "... You don't have any." "... Fine then, yours." "Okay, lets leave me out of this." They both ended up laughing, not noticing the suttle changes in the crystal that sat between them. It had begun to glow.

By the time they had noticed the crystal it wasn't merely glowing anymore. It had suddenly begun to shine so brightly that it was almost blinding. Kuroko and Widow both started, covering their eyes. Kuroko actually pushed back from the table. "What the hell is that?!" "Like I know?!" Their one of them could only think of one thing which could suddenly have started glowing like that, but as soon as it started is dimmed, then stopped. Temperarily blinded, both Widow and Kuroko blinked about in slight confusion. When their eyesight returned the looked down at the crystal. It had somehow burned through the napkin it had been sitting on, and left a lovely black ring on the table. "... My god... what was that?!"

Both Kuroko and Widow merely stared down at the crystal, which now seemed even shinier and brighter then before. "... ... What could have... caused such a flash?... From the crystal?" "It couldn't be reacting to anything because... well... it would have reacted by now!" Widow shook his head, throwing up a set of hands. "We should have just left it in the grass..." Kuroko frowned deeply, reaching out and gently touching the crystal; ice cold. "You know that there was no way we were going to leave it outside, Widow..."

The morning went by without further incident. Kuroko had gone shopping, leaving Widow home with the crystal. It was funny how they seemed to treat the gem as a child, one always staying hole while the other went out.

Widow relaxed the living room with his book, actually getting some reading done. He had placed the crystal on the small table infront of one of the windows, where is sat un-glowing and not distracting him.

He somehow managed to finish his book, putting it down and looking up. He blinked, slightly startled. A large butterfly rested outside the window that he had put the crystal at, wings closed and eyes directed at the crystal. Widow stood, moving towards the table, watching the butterfly. It seemed to take no notice of him, not even when he was standing right before the table. Then, reaching out, he picked up the crystal. Immediatly the butterfly took off, leaving as if it was afraid to be there a moment longer. Widow frowned deeply.

That whole day out Kuroko thought about the crystal. She didn't know why, or completely understand why, she just did. It was like she was a new parent worrying over a child, even though the crystal wasn't an attention needing newborn. Still, she worried constantly, often drifting off in the middle of conversation, only to be dragged back by someone calling her name or gently waving a hand before her face. It was not only beginning to freak her out, but her friends as well.

When Kuroko returned home Widow was back in the kitchen, though the crystal wasn't. When she found him, and found him without the crystal, she frowned. "Where is the-" "I'm doing a little experiment." Kuroko's frown deepened, a sleek eyebrow arching ever so slightly. "Does it have to do with a explosion?" Widow shook his head smiling. "No, no explosions this time. Come, I'll show you." Then he stood, leading Kuroko back to the living room where he had been reading just a few moments before.

When they got there Widow wasn't surprised at that he saw, though Kuroko was pretty much speechless. Butterflies completely covered the window at which the crystal sat, their wings fluttering and casting beams of light on the table and the ground. Kuroko let out a soft gasp, moving closer to Widow as if she was afraid. "... What... what are they doing?" Widow merely shook his head, still smiling. "They're waiting... just like we are..." Kuroko looked up at him, frowning. "... Waiting... for what?" "For.... something..."

After what seemed to be an eternity of watching the wall of butterflies Kuroko moved forward, reaching out to take the crystal from the table and free the butterflies from it's spell. Though as soon as her fingertips brushed the smooth surface of the crystal it began to shine like it had done before. Blinded Kuroko staggered back, dropping to her knees with a soft cry as tears ran from her eyes.

When the light had gone Kuroko rubbed her eyes, getting back to her feet. Widow was besides her now, also rubbing at his eyes. "Oh my God! Look!" Widow was pointing not to the crystal, which had burned a neat little ring into the table, but past it. The butterflies lay in a pile on the outside ledge, all blacked and burned as if set aflame. Kuroko gasped, covering her mouth with her hands. "That's... so awful!" "... but why wasn't it us?" Widow and Kuroko shared worried looks before looking back over at the table and the crystal that sat atop it.

At lunch they ate silently, both Widow and Kuroko, watching the crystal between them. They didn't move to touch it, nor did they try to explain what had happened earlier today. Widow had gone out and removed the butterflies from the ledge, placing their bodies in the garden and saying a small prayer over them before returning inside.

Kuroko finally spoke after finishing her peach. "... ... Something's going on with this crystal..." Widow nodded weakly, nibbling on his fork. "... ... I think... it might soon show us why it's so important..." "Important?" "What? Don't you feel it too?" Widow looked over at her, though Kuroko left her eyes on the crystal as she nibbled on her second slice of pizza. ".... important...."
