3/14/05 - RP Recap
Linneas was sweeping up the floor, like the good little helper that he was. Even though his mom told him he didn't have to, he wanted to. And it never really occured to the boy that his behaviour was out of the ordinary...
Ning was particularly happy now that her bonded had grown. He had taken over the oiling and cleaning duty that used to be Huni's. Linneas was so much more... OC than his mother. She perched on his shoulder, humming a little to keep him entertained.
"At fiiive o'clock in the moooooorniiiing!" could be heard outside the stationary shop before the door even opened, but the ending refrain of the song died out as it did, revealing the tired-but-happy pair of Inle and Tybalt. The feathered infant looked utterly happy for once, as he had been since Inle had started singing him sea shanties she had found in an old book. Tybalt beamed, a far cry from his usually grumpy self, clutching Inle's shirt as she whirled them into the room.
His smile didn't dim as he was set upon the floor, and he studied the sweeping boy and his contraption with an almost calculating glint in his eye. "'Hoy," he said after a moment, nodding in greeting, causing his ever-present pirate hat to slip down over an eye.
The sudden burst of color and song startled Linny for a moment, before the boy set his broom aside.
"Good day, how can I help you?" he asked, repeating the line his mother had taught him. He recognized Tybalt and smiled at the infant, "Heya, Cap'n Tybo." he greeted.
Ning would have frowned if she had a face, but instead she chose to keep her silence as well as her distance.
Tybalt's feathers ruffled with pride at the sound of his rightful title, and his smile only grew. "'Hoy, Linees," he repeated before gesturing with his chin at the broom. "What you doin'?" he asked, surprisingly more curious about Linneas' task than about the shiny that hovered above him.
"I'm helping mom out!" he declared proudly, "I'm being a good boy and cleaning." he nods. "Right Ning?"
"Oh yes, Linny good!" the fandangle concurred.
Inle couldn't help but aww at Linneas. "That's nice of you, kid. Wish my brats would help out every once in awhile." She looked pointedly at Tybalt, who only smiled cheekily at her--she couldn't be mad at him, however, he was just too adorable. Inle chuckled, looking back to Linny. "I'm sure she appreciates it, though."
"You like clean?" Tybalt asked Linny, a doubtful note in his voice. He hadn't yet caught sight of Khia.
Nyxa pranced into the shop, Olivia clasped securely in her arms. They'd had a productive day, and Nyxa knew that Liv probably needed some interaction. Noting both Inle and Tybalt, Nyxa had to cringe inwardly despite her happy smile to the group.
Olivia peered around with interest, a heavy scowl on her face as she noticed that Tybalt was in the room. Ickkky baby. However, there were two other new individuals she'd never met before, and she was delighted to see that. Snarling at Tybalt, she made lovey-eyes at the red-haired boy before smiling directly at the fluffy critter.
With his back to Khia, Linneas wasn't even aware of the furry Tale's presence. "My mom says I'm her little helper." he beamed, before noting the arrival of Nyxa and Olivia. He vaguely remembered seeing Liv, but never really meeting her before.
"Hello, welcome to the shop." he smiles.
AH HA! Here was someone Khia knew! That boy that called him "Paazi!" at least..it smelled like him...and two others he didn't know... he eyeballed the brilliant colored children, and then hurried down the stairs to see the others. "Hi-ou~"
Tybalt instinctively turned towards the sound of the door opening and immediately wished he hadn't. He merely watched with a superior smirk as Liv-wench and her guardian came through the door, and it grew as the brightly-colored baby snarled at him. Ah, how he enjoyed getting under her skin. Blatantly ignoring her, he turned back to Linny.
"Mom says I her lil' terrer," he said proudly in response to Linneas' statement. His gaze shifted once more at the sound of Khia's greeting, and he nodded amicably at the furry boy, his good mood sustained in spite of the presence of his adversary. "'Hoy," he said to Khia.
Hearing another voice, Linny turned to the source and saw Khia. "Fuzzy!!!" he squealed, much like the child that he is. "Fuzzy grew too?" he was absolutely delighted to find he wasn't the only grown Tale. As fun as it was to be older and have better articulation, it was kinda lonely.
The Fandangle's instant reaction was to hide behind Linneas. "Dirrrtyy!!!" she whined.
Khia tilted his head at the bird boy and chuffed, he wondered what about the pretty colorful girlchild that made the bird poof like that. "Khia grew...can talk now!" His tail swished behind him like a banner, and he greeted Ty and Oliva in kind as well - though he growled at Ling. "Not dirty."
"You is black and black is covered in dirt! So dirty!" Ning reasoned, if she had a tongue she would have stuck it out at the furry Tale.
"Khia?" Linneas tilted his head, "Khia is your name?" he blinked before softly tapping Ning as if chiding her. "Black not dirty, no color is dirty. Right, miss?" he smiled, turning to Olivia and Nyxa.
Olivia wasn't interested in the irritating bird-boy, instead waddling over to the red-haired boy and the fuzzy black thing. She was proud of her recent ability of walking, and just HAD to show it off. "Oooh, fuzzy!" Entranced by the fluffy black.. thing.. Olivia reached forward in her usual straightforward manner and instantly attempted to run her fingers through his hair, blinking in utter glee.
"Hi, everyone, how's it going?" Nyxa was cheerful, moving over to stand near Inle. "How're you? I never did properly thank you for what you did for me, Inle. I really appreciate it."
"Colors not dirty, PEOPLE dirty!" Tybalt proclaimed, looking pointedly at Olivia. He shifted upon the floor, manuevering his legs into an almost crossed position, his arms taking up a similar stance across his chest. "Carefuly, fuzzy, she bites," he warned Khia, nodding seriously.
Inle shrugged, looking up at Nyxa from her chair. She looked almost solemn as she regarded her now-split friend. "Well...you're welcome, for what it's worth. Just be careful, alright? I don't know the long-term affects of...whatever the hell it is I did to us. Hooray for guinea pigs, right?"
"People dirty?" Ning echoed in disbelief. Linneas was a people, wasn't he? Linny wasn't dirty. "People no dirty! Linny no dirty!" the fandangle argued.
Khia looked up at the woman and flicked his tail, then smiled, flashing his sharp fangs. "Khia bites too. Everything dirty sometimes, that's why we take bath!" His fur seemed to shift colors and textures under Olivia's fingers; it always did that.
Olivia didn't even flinch at Tybalt's words, instead merely turning from Khia's awesome fur to Linneas and flashing both of them a winning smile. "Hi. I'm Liv. I'm going to get a pet spider named Blue and a pet rat named Dave." She nodded and gestured to Tybo. "Ty is a mean baby." Nodding wisely she wobbled over to the couch and scrambled to perch upon it, sitting much like a queen viewing her court. "Livvie doesn't bite."
"Ohhhh, when did Fuzzy erm, Khia start doing that?" Linny asked, eyeing at how Khia's fur changed. He vaguely remembered the furry Tale doing somethin similar but Linny wasn't sure if that ever happened.
"Biting bad... dirty bad..." Ning added, still hiding behind Linneas' nape.
Khia's tail swished, and he watched Olivia curiously - he also found the parrot boy intriguing, but grumpy...and he talked with a funny accent. "Khia's furr always changes... Khia always changing." It was true. The fuzzball's fur was always shifting somehow - either moving as though alive, or changing colors...sometimes even textures.
"I not mean. You mean, wench. 'N a traderous liar." Tybalt nodded matter-of-factly, as if he were discussing the weather. He bared his teeth at her in a daring smirk before turning a softer one upon the two males. "Why you two big?" he asked.
Olivia snorted, shaking her head at silly Tybalt. "NOT a wench or liar. You made Liv break her bunny plush. Zayne says I can fix it, mommy will help." Nodding, she bared her teeth at the brightly colored Tybo before turning her attention back to Khia, "Changing like how? Like clothes?" She tilted her head in curiousity, violet eyes wide in interest.
Man, Tybalt really pissed her off.
"Nice to meet you, Liv. I'm Linny." the red head smiled. And then Tybalt started talking about the female Tale.
Conflict... Linny never did well with conflicts, so he chose to go denial and pretend like there was nothing wrong.
"Why are we big?" Linneas blinked, "I don't really know..."
"See? She lies. I never even saw her bunny." Tybalt sniffed indignantly--that brat, always trying to get him in trouble. He studied Khia's shifting limb intently, a look of subdued wonder upon his face. "That neat...how you do that?"
Khia shrugged at Tybalt's question, he couldn't answer for the other child. "Khia shifted, made self bigger." He lifted one "almost-hand" (As he couldn't quite get it perfect) and frowned, turning it more animal like, and then back. "See. Khia shifts." It was a display for Olivia as much as Tybalt.
As for the sparks between Olivia and Tybalt, the shapeshifter had no idea.
Linny was absolutely fascinated with Khia's shapeshifting ability. It wasn't often that the red head felt jealous over something, but he didn't have any cool abilities like Khia did. Unless you count his ability to clean and tidy up just about anything...
At the display, even Ning was impressed. The Fandangle had to admit, Khia did seem to have some good qualities. She wondered if the furry tale could turn into a furry mop...
Olivia was entranced by Khia's shifting, clapping her hands in glee. "I want to do that! How do you do that?" Shooting a killer glare in Tybo's direction, she shook her head, "No, you make Liv angry and she breaks the bunny. Shutit." Nodding forcefully, Olivia grinned in Linneas' direction, her question posed to both Khia and Linneas, "Do you have pets?"
At the question, Ning peered out from behind Linneas. "Ning not pet, Ning Fandangle!" she declared proudly as if there was a difference.
"You broke your plushie? That's so terrible!" Linny pouted, remembering Pra fondly when it was still a plush. He still loved that Pra became a real cleaning tool, but at night he missed snuggling up with something. Ning wasn't really comfortable if you think about it. "But you did say you and your mommy were gonna fix it?"
Tybalt merely tsked and shook his head. "'Liv'ya's got anger issues." It was something Inle often said about him, and it was fitting, more often than not. "'N I don' have to shut it 'n you can't make me, so ha." He turned his attention back to the others, his sapphire gaze focusing on Ning. "What's a Fanthingy?"
Tail swishing behind him, Khia scratched at the back of his head a little; he really wasn't sure how he was able to shift, only that he could. "Dunno...I just...think of what I want to be...and it happens...sometimes.. Doesn't always work. Can't make "people"... has to be same size as Khia too." The furry boy didn't tell his new friends that shifting hurt depending on how involved it was - the shift from beast to ball, for instance, provided a twinge of discomfort at most...but shifting into his current form was fairly painful.
Liv merely rolled her eyes at Tybo before nodding sadly at the demise of her beloved bunny plushie, though she brightened at the thought of fixing it. "Yes, mommy bought me a sewing kit so we can fix it when I get older." She nodded again, "Khia is spiffy, yeah!" He was so fluffy, and heaven knew that Liv was gaining a hair fetish much like her mothers.
"Fandangle! Fandangles are me! We be shinies and we are pretty!" Ning explained.
Tybalt's claws clicked open and shut, a contemplative gesture. "Is Khia like magic, then? To do that?" He studied the furry boy until his ears caught upon the magic word, and his eyes lit up as he glanced at Ning. "Shinies? You a shiny? I like shinies. Never seen a talking shiny, though."
"There are lotsa shinies up in one of Huni's room. But they're not Fandangles, they're sprockets! Linis and Langis are Sprockets too." Ning explained, as if expecting Tybalt to know what those where.
"Sewing? Liv knows how to sew?" Linneas smiled, it was one of the skills he had yet to learn. He could clean, and wash, but to sew and anything relating to gardening still escaped him.
Khia frowned, as much as he could with a muzzle and an animalian face, that is. "Magic? Syree says all children are magic." Of course, Khia would have liked to know the answer himself, so made note to pester his guardian about it. Syrie'd never told him how he came about, really... and there was that strange book... "Shiny things?" His tail swished thoughtfully.
Liv shook her head, "Not yet, mommy says I need better uhh.. cornashion." Nodding gravely, she continued, "She doesn't want me to poke my fingers." She peered at Ning, tilting her head, "You don't look too cuddly, not like fluffy." The ADD baby soon turned her attention back to Linneas, "Why do you clean?"
"Yeah, Ning's not too cuddly, but she helps me clean. And I clean because I like to clean. Cleaning and being clean is good. But sometimes being dirty is fun too. Sometimes, not all the time, sometimes. Like... once in a while." Linneas nodded, he did enjoy getting some dirt on him, but he always loved taking a bath afterwards.
"Yes, Sprockets are shiny too! But Sprockets different from Fandangles, don't know how but they are." Ning added nonchalantly.
It was at this point that a rather...interesting sound emerged from Syrie's study...Khia heard it, and knew that he was in Trouble. "Ah...Khia has to go...but will come play with you again!!" He slipped quickly over to the stairs and started creeping back up - hopefully Syrie would be so sleep confused he wouldn't notice Khia coming back in.
"KIAHRU!"
Nope. The shapeshifter's ears drooped, the tassles there quivering. "byee..."He bolted up the stairs, still intent on pretending he'd never left.
Olivia nodded, "I like getting dirty. Mommy gets mad when I play in the mud, but I like bugs and frogs. I can't wait till I get my pets, Blue and Dave." She smiled at Linneas, charmed by the older boy. "When I get them, you could come over to my house and look at them."
Nyxa rose and went to pick up Liv, waving to everyone in the room. "Ahh, it's late, we must go, I'm afraid. Say goodbye, Livvie!"
Liv waved to everyone, though she stuck her tongue out at Tybo. Grrf. Snapping her teeth at him, she glared at him until they left the shop.
"Sprockers! I know what they are, there's lots at home. They're 'nnoyin' like Liv but pretty and shiny and funny." He nodded before frowning at Khia's disappearing form, waving a brightly-colored arm at him. This one wasn't too bad, he decided. He was fuzzy and magic and that was pretty damn cool, in his book.
EDIT: He waved good-bye to Olivia as well, an innocent, charming smile upon his face. Ah, how funny she was when she was mad, in spite of the traitorous wench thing. He made a mental note to get her riled up more often.

3/20/05 - Narrative There was something on the table. Tybalt couldn't see exactly what it was, being confined to the floor and all, but he noticed even from across the kitchen that whatever it was was shiny. The sunlight filtering in from a conveniently placed window assured him of that, and served to tease him--Tybalt certainly had a fondness for shiny objects. He crossed his down-covered arms over his chest, tilted his head to the side, and began to think of the best possible way to obtain said shiny, or at least find out what it was. Flying was certainly out of the question. While he was birdlike in form, he was far too heavy for his wings to lift him off the ground at their current size. He didn't know how to fly, in any case. Getting someone else to get it for him was also unlikely. No one was in the kitchen, which was a rare occurence, and he hadn't seen anyone on his way to the room. Even if he had gotten someone to get it down for him, he probably wouldn't have been allowed to keep it. This left him with one option: somehow scaling the chairs and climbing up onto the table, where his shiny prize awaited him. He crawled determinedly to the table, sapphire eyes fixed on the overlarge obstacle. His wings were tucked tightly against his small body, and his long tailfeathers nearly obscured his protruding talons. Tybalt slowed as he approached the nearest chair, and his gaze grew speculative. He stopped behind it, peering at it from all angles. The back of the chair was made up of squarish, vertical columns of wood, with one running down the center to connect to the seat; this wouldn't do at all. The sides, however, each had a horizontal bar, forming an almost ladder-like shape. This was much better. After manuevering himself up to his knees beside the side of the chair, he took his hat off and placed it gently beside him, enough out of the way that he wouldn't accidentally damage it should he lose his balance and fall down. Tybalt firmly gripped the wooden slat connecting the legs of the chair, holding on for dear life as he scrabbled to get his clawed feet beneath him. After a moment of aimless flailing, he found himself standing, his hands now gripping a chair leg. He repositioned his hands further up on the chair and carefully raised a foot to the bar. His birdlike claws easily gripped it, and he didn't hesitate before doing the same with his other. His multi-colored wings splayed widely, helping him keep his balance. This proved to be a problem, however, because now the chair was unbalanced. It tilted to the side slightly, threatening to tip over. Tybalt's eyes widened, and rather than taking the safe route and stepping back down, his arms shot out, grabbed the vertical bar on the back of the chair, and he pulled himself into the seat. He felt a surge of triumph as the chair righted itself once more. He stood once more, and turned to face the table. Now, he could clearly see the motivation for his little quest. With a triumphant grin, Tybalt leaned across the table towards it...only to find that he was far too short to reach it from his current position. He refused to let this hinder his progress, however, and wiggle-squirmed his way onto the smooth wooden surface. In his exuberance, he accidentally knocked the chair he had used to drag himself atop the table over, and it clattered noisily to the hardwood floor. This was all secondary to Tybalt, however, now that his treasure was literally in reach. He eagerly snatched up the pendant, triumph scrawled all over his features, as Inle walked into the kitchen, having been drawn by the chair's fall. She grinned as Tybalt ignored her, so focused was he on his shiny new object. "What ya got there, kiddo?" she asked, startling him out of his reverie. Immediately, his features took on a hard cast, and he clutched the necklace closer to himself. " Mine!" The word was nearly growled. "I get up here and get, I find, is MY trezure now." He scowled at his surrogate mother, who merely regarded him with amusement and held up a placating hand. "So it seems, Captain, and what a fine trinket it is. Shall I put it on you?" She fought hard to keep the laughter from her voice, nearly failing on more than one occasion. Tybalt gave her a dubious look, regarding her silently for a moment before thrusting his arm out towards her. With a gentle smile, Inle took the necklace from him, undid the clasp, and rehooked it around his neck. She let go of the bauble, and Tybalt watched it as it swung from its new residence around his neck. His stony face cracked, and he smiled, happy and proud of his accomplishment. He looked up at Inle, eyes shining. "Mama, I climb up and get trezure!" Inle chuckled indulgently, bending to retrieve Tybalt's hat from the floor before placing it upon him and scooping him into her arms. Immediately, he gripped two fistfuls of her shirt and snuggled closer, yawning widely. That was quite enough adventure for him...for now.

3/26/05 - RP Recap Inle nudged open the door to the shop with an elbow, her arms full of Tybalt. The feathered baby wore a slight smile, a wonderful change from his perpetual scowl. His mood had improved greatly since his adventure from the previous night--the fruit of his labor dangled around his neck, the silver and sapphire of the raven-clawed amulet reflecting the light. Inle seemed to be in high spirits as well; then again, with the break in Tybalt's terror, who wouldn't be? Gently, she set the feathered Tale down near the other two Tales and settled herself in a chair, nodding to the other Guardians. "Nice to meet you as well Nio," Chao transfered her hand and shook Nio's as well and waved to the newly arrived Intel with her free hand. There were lots of new people, and Tales, tonight.
Aido smiled as the new Tale was set down, giving him a quick look over. She'd never seen a Tale quite like him before. Well... Khia was covered in fur but that was as close as she'd come. "'Alo," she greeted with a smile, ducking out of the headphones which had fallen about her neck.Inle settled deeper into the plush chair as Tybalt yawned and stretched, his arms forming an almost Y shape above his head, his wings spreading outwards to their full, if small, span. After holding his position for no more than a moment, he relaxed with a deep sigh, his wings flapping a few times before settling comfortably, a warm weight against his back. "'Hoy," he said amicably enough, sapphire eyes scrutinizing her form. "Yep, she's a Tale...or so Nyxa tells me. I'm still not too sure on the whole Tale Subject...Its just so weird! Oh, Hello."
She smiled, waving with her free hand towards the two who entered. Enoh gave the brightly coloured boy a curious glance. He was still cute, but still pretty unusual. Who was she to talk though? She had a Blue Baby. Literally. Enoh smiled up at Nio, before watching the three tales.
"Oooh...You are Ai? Livvy told Viddy 'bout you! Hello. Pretty."
Vidya giggled happily, pointing to Aido's halo. As a feathered boy was set near to her, the nymph turned her white eyes towards him. Feathers, clawed feet...This must be...
"..Tybo?"
She wrinkled up her nose in a guess. He didn't SEEM like the Tale Livvy had warned her about...mainly because this boy had a small smile. Really, Vidya pictured Tybo to be some sort of fire-breathing, feathered dragon. But oh well! She looked at him curiously as well, before pointing to his feathers; she didn't touch him, however,
"Pretty Too. M'Viddy! Hiya."Aido's eyes followed the wings as the stretched, as if trying to work out how they worked from peering at them. Experimentally she stretched an arm, comparing the two, before dismissing it as he greeted her. She cocked her head, like everything about the Tale, the greeting was a new one as well, "hoy?" She paused, "like 'alo?" She peered back at him, seeming to not mind the scrutinizing gaze.
Chao chuckled, "I don't even think any of us are too clear about the Tales. She came from the Tome, right? As far as I know that means she's a Tale.
Aido flickered her gaze back to Viddy, looked up as her halo was pointed out, and shrugged, it was just there, like it always was. "Viddy pretty too," she said with a smile, looking at Vidya's wings before looking back to the feathered Tale. "Tybo?" Inle nodded halfheartedly in response to the wave, smirking as she saw the look the other woman gave to Tybalt. The parrot boy did garner his fair share of stares from the general populace, and both he and Inle were used to it by now. Inle took a maternal sense of pride in the fact that her ward's appearance intrigued so many. Tybalt's gaze turned towards this new voice, a brow quirked expectantly. How did this new girl know his name? He figured it was a trifling matter and decided to dismiss it...for now. But compliments! The blue girl was off to quite a good start, in his book. "Aye, I's Cap'n Tybo. 'N t'ankoo, pretty, yes. You very...blue. Like th' sea. Why there's wings in yer 'ead?" He was quite proud with his efforts at bestowing a compliment--it wasn't something he often had the chance to do. He shook his head at the angelic Tale, however. "No, 'hoy like 'hoy. Wha's 'alo? 'N who you?" "'Alo like 'alo..." she trailed off, not really sure how to explain "'alo'". "'Alo like-" she waved, "like tha' 'alo. Like 'hi'a.'" That was the best as she explain it. "I's Aii." Capn' Tybo? She'd heard 'capn' before... "Is Capn' Tybo pirate?"When asked about her wings, she looked curiously at Enoh over her shoulder, as if her Mother would know WHY the wings were there. Enoh had noticed this curious glance, and had responded with a small shrug...she had no idea, its just the way Vidya was found.
Turning away from her mother and back to Tybalt, she lightly tugged on her wings, giggling softly.
"Oooh...I dunno...but Sank-oo!"
Oh, Vidya was such a ham...even if he was just telling her she looked like water. The girl then pressed her index finger against her lips, her white eyes staring curiously at the Captain. Where had she heard " 'hoy " before...Hm. Leaning her head to the side, it hit her.
"Peer-ates! Peer-ates say 'hoy! Right, Cap'n Tybo?"
She beamed with pride, having remembered a pirate movie she'd watched with Mieke and Valen...and it actually came in use! She gave Aido a thumbs up as she mentioned Pirates as well.
Enoh scratched the back of her head, leaning her head to the side.
"Yeah...Its strange, though. But at the same time, I'm very glad that I did find her like that. Its been way to much fun to regret anything."A slow smile spread over Tybalt's face, and he nodded at both girls. Finally, someone who recognized him for what he obviously and truly was! "Aye, 'm a pirate. I sail th' seas in--" he stopped, suddenly, and his face took on a pained expression. A flash of some suppressed memory, it was, rising to the unwilling surface of Tybalt's conscious mind. He was young and cocky, fresh off his first raid as the new captain of the ship he had served on since he was but a lad. He and his crew were in a tavern, celebrating accordingly, and women surrounded him, their perfume a cloying stench that he didn't recognize in his alcohol-induced haze.
"Is that yer ship out in port, Cap'n?" One asked, eyelashes fluttering girlishly at him. He grinned in response before taking a swig of whatever foul mixture was in his cup.
"Aye, 'tis mine. Me pride and joy, she is, more valuable t'me than any treasure on earth."
"Ahh, and a treasure she is, sir! Might I inquire as to a name?"
"Tha' girl out there? Tha's th' Serpentine, lass, and don't ye forget it."It was there and gone in an instant, and Tybalt wondered just where it came from. "...in me ship," he finished lamely, his initial shock giving away to confusion. Oh, this couldn't be the same Tybo Livvy had warned her about! He was fun! He complimented her! And his feathers were pretty. She was happy. Vidya had never met a real life pirate before! This was exciting...!
But then, at his pained expression, Vidya lost her smile, her eyes lost their happy glint...all of it was replaced with serious worry. She cradled her arms close to her small torso, ruffling the gray tunic she wore.
"Cap'n Tybo...? ar'you okay...?"
She'd never seen anyone with such a painful expression on their face before. The grin that'd formed as she and Vidya were proven right melted into a whistful smile, "sail th' seas?" how far could that take you? To nearly other worlds she bet! The smile fell away as Tybo seemed to freeze for a moment, "you okay Capn' Tybo?" she echoed Vidya's question, though she reconized the pained expression."Fun..." she chuckled and nodded, having a Tale was fun in some respects, and grinding on the nerves in others. His gaze cut sharply to the two little girls, and he mentally berated himself. What was he thinking, letting his control slip like that? He refused to be pitied, for that, to him, was weakness. His expression closed, his emotions locked behind the stony mask once more. "I fine, yes." His tone was almost stern, but far from harsh. Tybalt glanced around the room, eyes shuttered, his gaze restless until it fell upon the halo that was suspended above Ai's head. "Wha's that?" he asked, pointing at it. Aido bit her lip as Tybo's expression turned stony, breifly wondering if they'd been wrong to ask, before her halo was pointed out. Just to make sure that was what Tybo was pointing at she poked her head up, catching sight of her halo just as it slid behind her head, following her movement and graviting a bit closer to her hair, as if not wanting to be seen. "Uhh..." what was the word? "S'a... halo," she said slowly as the term came to her.Vidya, having clearly seen Tybalt's reaction to their worried questions, decided it would be best to not bring up the subject. At all. Instead, she ignored it completely, her white eyes regaining their happy glitter as the nymph turned her attention to Aido's halo. She giggled a bit once more.
"S'very pretty, Ai! S'very shiney, too"Aido ducked her head a bit at the compliment, "than'kyu Viddy." She didn't see it too often, unless she looked in a mirror or something. Her halo glowed softly for a moment before dimming and dropping downwards a bit more, nearly touching her dark hair.Tybalt seemed to relax a bit as the focus was taken off his weak moment, and he peered curiously at Aido's halo. "Yes, shiny," he said, squinting at it, finally wiggling to his knees and crawling closer for a better look. "'Ow it hangs like tha'? 'N why's it glowy?" Vidya clasped her small hands behind her neck, her elbows in the air. She had found it rather comfortable, standing this way. She nodded happily, her long, blue-streaked white hair bouncing with the motion.
"M'speaking tha trooth!"
The tale then eyed Tybalt curiously once more, leaning her head to the side again before looking at Aido. That was a good question! She wanted to know too, come to think of it.
"Yeah...Whyssat?"Aido shrugged, feeling her halo finally flop onto her head with a thump, as if it was pretending to just be a circlet of metal. "I'unno, just is." She fidgeted slightly, feeling restless and odd at having all the attention focused on her.Tybalt's wings extended to help him keep his balance as he looked this way and that, studying the circlet from as many angles as he could. Finally, he tentatively reached out to poke it, his curiosity outweighing his good sense. As Tybalt studied it the halo didn't move, though it was obvious Aido was growing sick of the attention, as her attention was on the rest of the shop. But as Tybalt's finger neared the circlet snapped to attention and swevled away from the prodding finger, causing Aido to straighten and push herself back quickly, following the motion. As teh circlet had nearly ventured away from her head a a tremor of bitter cold had rushed over her, leaving her shivering and wide eyed at the reaction.Vidya wrinkled up her nose at the halo's behavior. The Tale had never seen a Halo before...nevermind a halo that could act. It was rather strange... "Y'think tha hey-lo's magic?"Her expression remained completely curious, merely staring at the halo from where she was...she was rather afraid to touch it, considering Aido's reaction to Tybalt's poking. Her side wings twitched somewhat...something they rarely did. Those wings of hers didn't much like to move. "Ar'you okay, Ai?" Tybalt's hand immediately withdrew, and he sat back upon his haunches, claws tightly shut. He stared at the halo and its owner with a speculative gaze. "Tha's int'er'stin'...very int'er'stin'. Maybe is magic, p'raps." In all of Tybalt's moving, his hat had slipped down, and he idly reached up to right it upon his head. "M'okay..." she murmured, feeling suddenly tired as she took a deep breath and stood, legs wobbling a tiny bit. "Maybe s'magic, I'unno..." her own lack of answers was beginning to frustrate her, though she barely showed it, distracting herself by looking around the shop.Chao caught her daughter's eye, noting how spent she was beginning to look, "I think we'd better be going, it's getting late. It was nice meeting you," she smiled to the other Authors and trotted over, scooping up Aido into her arms. From Chao's arms Aido waved to Tybalt and Vidya, "bai Viddy! Bai Capn' Tybo!" "Nice meeting you too! Bye now!"
ENoh waved a bit, before looking down at Vidya. The girl only seemed to fall asleep if she was being held or rocked. Right now, Enoh was considering Chao a very lucky woman to have a child get worn out like that.
"Bye Bye Ai!"
Vidya waved both of her small blue arms over her head until Aido was out of sight, the tale then turning back towards Tybalt.
"So...Whattcha wanna do now, Cap'n?"Tybalt waved at Aido until she and Chao were out the door, then turned to regard Vidya blankly. He hadn't had much experience playing with the other Tales, and it showed. He didn't mind this, however--on the contrary, it wasn't bad. It was certainly better than spending "quality time" with that annoying wench Olivia. "Uh...we play? Play somethin'?" "Okay. Play..."
Vidya lapsed into silence, her words trailing off. She studied Tybalt carefully, thinking up what to play. Lets see...he was a pirate, and pirates liked to do what...Drink? Nuh huh, no pop after 7. Roll in the mud? Whoops, wrong kind of person. She narrowed her eyes a bit in thought...and then it hit her! A smile lit on Vidya's lips once more, closing her eyes and pointing upwards in her pride.
"Peer-ates like tre-shure hunting, yes? How's'about we do that?"A spark lit itself behind Tybalt's eyes at the mention of treasure. "Yeah, trezure!" His wings fluttered happily behind him, and awkwardly he stood, already looking around the shop for likely treasure-bearing spots. The shelves, high up? No; while he was certain he could do it (for he was certain he could do anything after his adventure the other day), he wasn't quite convinced that Vidya would be able to. The bargain bin? It was somewhat open, and with his claws, it would be easy for him to scale it--but again, he wasn't so sure about Vidya. That left them with one choice: the sliding cabinets. They were set on the floor, against the wall, and could easily be drawn open. His first tentative steps were taken in that direction. "There. We go there." "Okay. Viddy'll follow tha Cap'n!"
She shoved her fists into the air, giggling. Vidya knew from the movie that the Captain always got to go first, so she was gonna play the same way! Besides, it was fun!
Hair bouncing, she hopped over to stand behind Tybalt, on the lookout for monsters or worse...other pirates out to steal their treasure! Most children spread their arms for balance when beginning to walk; most animals used their tails for the same purpose. Tybalt merely spread his multihued wings, his feathers ruffling a bit before settling smoothly once more. This kept his arms free, just in case they WERE set upon by monsters or rival pirates. Inle had never seen the Tale smile so widely, although she was well-used to the rogueish spark in his sapphire eyes. His chest puffed out proudly as he strode slowly, awkwardly to the cabinets, his large talons clicking upon the floor. Tybalt almost lost his balance more than once, not being used to walking--and with such big feet!--but his wings moved to right him as if by instinct. Eventually, he reached the cabinets, easily sliding the door of one open. He stuck his head in to inspect--there didn't seem to be anything in this one, but the cabinets were almost tunnel-like. He pulled his head out and turned around, regarding his companion with a cautious glance. "Is dark," he said, his tone serious. "You be ok? Or need light?" Vidya had a much easier time of walking than Tybalt did; and it was either due to the fact she didn't have talons, or the fact that Vidya appeared to be older then Tybalt physically. Either way, she stayed happily behind him, letting him lead the way to the cabinets.
Once they reached them however, Vidya peered curiously over Tybalt's shoulder, before focusing her white eyes on him when he spoke to her. In response, she gave him a happy grin, leaning forwards a bit with one hand on her hip, the other pointing to the small blue gem on her forehead.
"M'okay. Viddy has THIS!"
With that being said, she pointed into the cabinet.
"Lead tha way, Cap'n!"
Vidya looked over her shoulder, making sure there were no monsters or other pirates behind them."H'okay then," he replied with a nod and a glance to Vidya's jewel. He carefully crawled into the cabinet, tucking his wings tightly to his back. The space certainly wasn't a tight one, but having his wings drag against the cabinet's walls would not prove comfortable. He paused for a moment, allowing his eyes to adjust to the lack of light, before crawling slowly forward. His long tailfeathers dragged noiselessly along the bottom. Taking one last glance behind her, Vidya crawled in after Tybalt. Her eyes had adjusted to the dull light coming from her forehead jewel; the small blue gem mimicking the reflections of a moonlit ocean. She looked around her, then back at the ground...the last thing she wanted to do was step on his tailfeathers...that would be terrible!
"Y'think there's monsters here, Cap'n?"
Whoops...she just realized she didn't have a weapon! She'd be useless if there were any monsters anyway. Her wings drooped sadly for only a second...what kind of pirate was she? Vidya made a mental note to get herself some sort of weapon for next time. The glow emitting from Vidya's forehead went unnoticed by Tybalt, who at any other time would have been enthralled by the glow and its color. Rather than seeing what was in front of him, he felt with his hands--such was why the progress he made was slow. "Aye, ther' c'be some. But they'd be 'lil, t'fit in 'ere, 'n we c'squish 'em with our hands." His words were spoken in a serious tone through a wide smile. He didn't know other people could BE so much fun! And fun he was having--it was certainly better times than being around Liv, that traitorous wench. "Oh good! I forgotted a weapon today...Viddy will 'member for next time, yep!"
Vidya giggled softly...them promptly stopped herself. That might give away their position! She bit down on her bottom lip to stifle her giggles...though she did squeak in surprise as an unidentifyed bug crawled over her blue hand. Shaking it off of her hand, she caught sight of its shadow and Slap! Squished it dead.
Of course, it seemed the bugs liked this cabinet, as she started to notice more and more little shadows.
"Cap'n! We under a'tack!"
She bit back a gleeful giggle.Weapons! Of course! What good was being a pirate captain if he didn't even have a sword? He would HAVE to bring this up with the head wen--err, his mother--so they could rectify this immediately! Tybalt stopped dead in his tracks at the warning of the attack, and immediately began bellowing out orders, which echoed noisily off the close walls of the cabinet. "All 'ands on de--" wait, that wouldn't work. They were in a cabinet, not a ship. "Fire th'--" that woudn't work either: no cannons here. "Attack back!" he yelled, hands beginning to smack at unseen shapes both real and imagined. "Aye aye, Cap'n!"
Vidya couldn't help but giggle with glee... not only was it bug squashing time, but it was fun to quote pirate movies! Waiting for the shadows of the bugs to get closer to her, Vidya began to "attack back" by smacking at them, squishing as many as possible.
After a while, the number of bugs had dramatically dropped, while the number of bug guts grew rather quickly. In fact, it was hard to find any bugs in her immediate sight. With this in mind, she reported back to the Captain.
"Tha emeny re-treat-ed! We win, Cap'n!"A final smack and a final splat, and the battle was over. "A'course we do! We's an unstopperable force, e'en without weapons! Now ALL monssers'll know t'fear th' crew of th' dread..." he paused. "We don' 'ave a ship. We needs a ship. I think after we fin' th' trezure here, we should come an' deer one." He nodded decisively, as if it were as easy as it sounded. "Onwards!" he cried, crawling forwards once more, heedless of the bug guts that matted his feathers and currently coated the bottom of the cabinet. "Yes! We be unbeetenable! Yay for us, Cap'n!"
Being part of a crew seemed like a completely awesome idea to Vidya...ooh, being a pirate was fun! You got to smash bugs as well as take treasure and play with sharp pointy objects!
"Meybe after we finished here Cap'n, we should go n' make sures we gots everyting pie-rats need!"
After all...if they were missing weapons and a ship...who knew what else they were missing?! Stifling a childish giggle of glee from their play, she crawled on after Tybalt...but not after wiping some of the bug guts onto her gray tunic."Yes! We be unbeetenable! Yay for us, Cap'n!"

Stifling a childish giggle of glee from their play, she crawled on after Tybalt...but not after wiping some of the bug guts onto her gray tunic."Aye, we needs weapons 'n a ship 'n a crew. 'N a ocean, too." So many things they required, and so little time to obtain them in! He continued his crawl, and the trail of bug guts changed to dust--a thick coat of it, in fact, that covered the cabinet's bottom. Apparently, they weren't often used. A niggling sensation formed in the back of his mind; treasure-hunting senses, perhaps? "We're gettin' close." "Hmmm...Me thinks tha ocean'll be hard part."
She mused this, leaning her head to the side. Vidya didn't notice the dust right away...until their crawling kicked up some of it. Shuddering a bit, Vidya sneezed rather loudly...twice. Sniffling shortly after, she rubbed her nose with the back of her hand, giggling sheepishly. Lets just hope there were no more monsters!
Vidya brightened as Tybalt told her they were getting close.
"Oooh..Good! Me wonder whats the treazure'll be..."Sure enough, after another silent moment, Tybalt's hand fell upon several somethings that certainly wasn't part of the cabinet. They varied in size, shape and texture. Some of them were round and smooth, wheras others were flat and ridged. A few of them were a mixture of both, but the majority seemed to be small and sharp, their shape undefinable due to their multitude. "Trezure..." Tybalt said, awestruck. "We find th' trezure!" he crowed triumphantly. A bit of light filtered in through a crack in the door of the cabinet, where it didn't quite meet the opposite side. Eagerly, Tybalt threw it open, revealing their findings. Vidya's white eyes widened as she heard Tybalt mutter something about treasure. The blue tale perched herself up as high as she could given the space to see over his shoulder, the light from her gem mingling with the light from the store.
If space had permitted it, she would have thrown her arms into the air in triumph.
"Oh YAY! Tha treazure! Oooh...its very pretty!"
Since she couldn't throw her arms into the air, she merely clasped her hands together. It was a literal treasure trove of shinies! Tybalt's eyes widened significantly as he got an eyeful of the booty they had found. He carefully nudged their findings out of the cabinet and onto the floor. He himself followed suit, carefully crawling back into the store. He looked much dirtier than when he had entered, and his hat was askew atop his head. His smile was huge, however, and his eyes glittered with treasure-lust. Vidya waited patiently for Tybalt and the treasure to leave the cabinet before she herself crawled out, shaking the dust from her long hair once she was on the store floor again. She giggled, eyeing the shinies at her feet as they sprawled out infront of her. The blue Tale was grinning from ear to pointed ear, it seemed
"That was fun, Cap'n! We needs ta do it again, okay?"
After all, didn't Tybalt say they were a crew, once before?Tybalt nodded enthusiastically, only barely managing to catch his hat before it fell off his head. "Aye! 'N then we go onna pillaging spree, 'n do battle with ackshul weapons, 'n sail a ship! You can be th' firs' mate! What say you t'that?" He sat back upon his haunches, claws tightly closed, arms crossed across his chest. He looked every (small) inch the victorious pirate captain. Inle, however, merely looked bemused. Someone needed a bath. Vidya's eyes widened as Tybalt listed off everything they could do. The nymph leands over, half sitting down, half leaning on her hands infront of her.
"REALLY?!"
Laughing happily, she leaned back onto her bottom, clapping her hands together.
"Oooh M'so happy! Viddy says tha' sounded great! Oh! Viddy'd be 'onered to be firs' mate!"
At the last part, Vidya attempted some form of bow...though she ended up not being able to complete it, as she realized the hard way (with a whimper in her tone to boot) that she was sitting on her hair.
Enoh merely shook her head with a stifled laugh. Great, Vidya has more shiney things to add to her collection...not to mention the bath she'd have to get when they go home.Tybalt beamed at his new first mate. He gestured down at the loot in front of them. "This 's only th' beginnin'! When we gets a ship, we can 'splore new lands, 'n finds new trezures, 'n claim th' seas fer our own! 'N nothin' 'n no one can stop us, cuz we're pirates!" Inle's laugh was not so stifled, and she nearly doubled over in her chair. Tybalt made a point of ignoring her. Vidya followed his motion to their loot of shineys, before looking back up at him when he spoke again. Everything he was saying sounded like so much FUN! Unfortunately, Vidya knew better than to know nobody could stop them at this point...of course this was one of the points she decided to let Tybalt in on.
"Oooh...tha sound s'like fun! But ah...Cap'n? Momma's real good at stopping Viddy right now...but I try mah bestest to stop that! Okay?"
Other than that, being the first mate on the future pirate ship sounded like SO much fun!
Enoh pressed her fingertips against her lips, casting an extremely amused glance over towards Inle. The shapeshifter was snickering again, having a really hard time trying to stifle her laughter.
"It seems your son's making a rebel out of my daughter! Haha! This will most certainly be interesting!"Inle's laughter eventually died down, and she nodded at Enoh. "More like your daughter's making an honest pirate out of my son. He doesn't usually get along so well with others...not really a people person, that one." Tybalt shook his head, as if in disagreement. "No, you c'n get away. Jus' make a big mess, 'n blame it onna animal, and run 'way while she's cleanin' it up!" He smiled mischieviously--this was something he knew from experience. Inle's head whipped towards him, jaw dropped. "You...you little brat! I KNEW you had something to do with all those squished tomatos in the kitchen!" Tybalt merely smirked, chest puffing out further. His wings rose slightly, feathers ruffled to make himself appear bigger. "You know, he's nothing like Olivia described him...at all. Vidya was terrified of meeting him at first. Its funny how thats changed so completely!"
Vidya, listening carefully to Tybalt's means of escape, found herself in hysterical laughter. Her family was so big, she really could blame it on someone else!
"Hehe...! Okay Cap'n, Viddy'll keep dat in mind!"
Her kitsune ears twitched, the shapeshifter looking towards the two babies. Inle's reaction to Tybalt's words got a highly amused laugh out of the red-eyed woman. Now she knew what to look out for with Vidya, with that in mind.Inle snorted and shook her head, still partially aghast at Tybalt. "Yeah, Olivia and Tybalt don't get along much. She made the mistake of pulling on his feathers and got smacked around for it. I don't think she's forgiven him yet. Tybalt's really not that bad, if you approach him the right way." Tybalt's gaze darkened a bit at the mention of his arch-nemesis, but even that didn't kill his good mood. Instead of flying off the walls with hate, he turned his attention back to the shinies on the floor. "We divvy th' trezure now, k?" "So I've been told. He does seem like a good kid, deep down."
Enoh smiled softly, stretching her arms out infront of her.
Vidya yawned a bit, rubbing her eyes with tiny blue fists. She wasn't tired, honest! Turning her attention back to Tybalt, Vidya ended up turning her white gaze down towards the shiney knick knacks on the ground between them. Giggling a bit, she clapped her hands together once.
"H'Okay! How do'we do that?"
She had no idea how to divide the treasure...she could only assume that the Captain got the most of it. Which was fine for her, because she had fun aquiring the treasure!Inle couldn't help but feel a tiny burst of pride at that. Normally, her kids were the ones running rampant and causing trouble, and while Tybalt certainly wasn't different, it was nice to know that someone else saw the good in him. "Thanks. Vidya's good for him, and it's great that she was able to bring out his...more amiable side." Vidya's assumptions proved to be right. However, Tybalt didn't take too much more than half. There was certainly plenty for both of them, and she had proven to be an excellent first mate, so he felt she deserved it. "Th res' is yers," he said with a smile. "Oh, you're very welcome. And thanks...they already have such a nice friendship! Even if they're both pirates now. Its actually quite cute!"
Enoh giggled happily, pressing her fingertips to her lips. She was already starting to assume that brining out the amiable sides of people was one of Vidya's talents...she'd already done so to a rather grumpy stag in the family...
Vidya was right, but of course she didn't mind at all! She was quite happy with the share she was given, and the blue tale offered him a bright smile as she pulled the remaining trinkets closer to her, in her own little pile.
"Ooh yay! Thank'yah, Cap'n!"
She paused for a moment...she'd almost forgotten to ask! She didn't want to get hit, after all...nor did she want to lose the opporunity to have so much fun.
"Oh yeah...Ar'tha Firs Mate s'allowed to hug the Cap'n or no?"Tybalt nodded in response to her call of thanks and began organizing his shinies into a pile. He looked up at her, startled, at her question. "Wha'? Uh..." No one had ever asked him THAT before. DID pirates hug each other? Confused, he turned towards Inle, a questioning expression on his face. Inle merely gave him a half-shrug and a smirk, wordlessly saying, "You're on your own, kid." After pulling a face at Inle, Tybalt turned back to Vidya. His claws opened and closed restlessly. "Uh. Guess so?" Although this was his first mate, he was immediately on guard. The last person, other than Inle, who had touched him tried to pull his feathers out. Who's to say Vidya wouldn't do the same? Vidya blinked at him. He had just given her permission, right? Her expression lit up, her eyes closing briefly as she smiled.
"Okay!"
Giggling, the blue girl leaned over to give Tybalt a hug in thanks. She was careful to not disrupt their loot piles while she did so, and without tugging a single feather, she sat back where she was. She knew what having your feathers pulled felt like; so Vidya was very nice in that respect.
"Nyah, Thank'yah, Cap'n! S'not that bad, i'sit?"
Sitting where she was before she hugged him, the Tale offered her Captain another smile before innocently putting her shineys into various piles.Tybalt endured the hug, sitting stiffly as if awaiting the uncomfortable prickle that accompanied the tugging of his feathers...only to blink, surprised, as it didn't come. He relaxed as Vidya withdrew; while he certainly wasn't starved for affection, he had very little idea what to do when confronted by it. "No...in't bad. I guess 'Liv'ya jus' dumb. She pull feathers, not like you." Inle breathed a soft sigh of relief. Neither tears nor blood was shed on the behalf of either party, and that was a good sign. Right? "Livvy said 'No touch Tybo! He MEAN!' So Viddy thought she'd ask Cap'n Tybo first."
She flinched, reaching up to clasp her hands around parts of the wings behind her pointed ears.
"Pullin' feters s'not fun. It HURT."
Vidya dropped her arms, only to find herself caught up in her mother's arms. Squeaking in surprise, the Tale reached down in an attempt to grasp her loot.
Holding Vidya in her arms, Enoh crouched down to be at level with Tybalt.
"I'm very sorry Captain...but your First Mate here needs to be heading home now. If you'd like I could give our address to your mother, if you want to get in touch with Vidya?"
The shapeshifter then moved her red gaze towards Inle. It would be a pity to not exchange addresses...in her mind, anyway.Tybalt snorted, arms crossing once more over his chest. "Yah, well 'Liv'ya's a trait'rous wench. Traitors're BAD, 'n stuff." He nodded in agreement with Viddy. "Pullin' feathers's bad too." He watched bemusedly as his first mate was scooped up, and he looked sullenly into Enoh's eyes. "Don' wanna touch Viddy. Wanna play 'n fin' trezure 'n sail th' seas!" Inle chuckled, rooting around in her bag for a scrap of paper and a pen. After hastily scribbling her address down on it, she hoisted herself out of her chair and made her way towards Enoh. "Here," she said, holding the paper out to the other woman. "Feel free to use it anytime." Enoh chuckled, shaking her head.
"I'm sorry Captain, thats what I meant. Alright then, I'll just cart this little pirate home...a good pirate needs their sleep, right?"
Smiling she stood up, making sure Vidya had all of her loot before hand. Shifting the now yawning Vidya into one arm, the shapeshifter took the paper and smiled at the other mother.
"Ah, thank you! I'll have to come down with her sometime soon to give you my address...I'm afraid that if I put her down now, I won't be able to get her back up for a while!"
Laughing happily, she put the address paper into her pocket, snatching up her shoulder bag on her way towards the door.
"Oh yeah! I forgot to introduce myself! I'm Enoh...it was a pleasure meeting you and The Captain!"
Waving, she stepped out of the store, followed closely by Nio, who got a final wave in before he too disappeared.Tybalt's feathered cheeks puffed out indignantly. "Pirates don' need sle--" here he was cut off by a yawn, "--eeep!" Inle chuckled down at the Tale, who merely gave her a stubborn look in response. "I'm Inle, and it was nice to meet you both!" She waved after them, Tybalt mimicing her half-heartedly. Once they were out the door, Inle turned towards Tybalt. "Well, looks like it's just you and me, kiddo. Let's go home, alright?" "No!" "Don't you 'no' me, young sir. You're dirty, and sleepy, and it's time to go home!" "No!" Inle ignored this, retrieving her bag before bending to scoop up Tybalt's not-so-ill-gotten gains. This accomplished, she moved to scoop him up as well, frowning when he pushed her away. "Hey, come on now...we're go home now, or no more treasure hunting for you for QUITE some time, little man." She chuckled at the face he made up at her, but he didn't struggle as she picked him up, and he was half-asleep by the time they were out the door.

3/26/05 - PD with Vidya "Ar'we there yet, Mommie?"
Vidya asked for what seemed like the billionth time since they had left Enoh's house. The nymph child bad been bugging her mother to go visit the "Cap'n" ever since they left the shop after the two had met, and finally Enoh had caved, grabbing the address that Inle had given her to take Vidya over there.
"Yeah, this it is Sweetie! Its the same as the address here...so it must be it, right?"
"Yay! Viddy go to tha door!"
Without waiting for a response, Vidya went running for the doorway, her new staff in hand. She had so much to tell Tybalt already, and she couldn't wait for another adventure! Once she reached the doorway, Vidya paused...what was it you were s'posed to do now? Oh yeah. Knock!
Giggling, she knocked on the door, rocking from her heels to the balls of her feet as she waited for a response."You little brat, I'm so tying your feet together once I find you," Inle grumbled as she wandered through the halls of her ever-shifting house. She was on the prowl for Tybalt, who had gotten into her jewelery box yet again, leaving it and the rest of her room an utter mess. She was diverted from her chase as the call of "Door!" rang throughout the house; who said it, she didn't know. With a roll of her eyes and a muttered threat of payback, she headed for it. She opened the door, blinking as she saw who was on the other side. "Oh. Uh, hi Enoh, Vidya. What brings you two around here?" Tybalt popped out from behind a long coat that was hanging on the doorknob of the hall closet, not a handful of yards away from Inle, obviously happy about the company. "Viddy!" he cried, running awkwardly to the door, still not used to the whole walking thing yet. "Cap'n! Hiya! Whattcha doin' behind tha coat?"
Vidya smiled politely to Inle before scooting inside, completely forgetting her manners in that respect. She had scooted up towards Tybalt, holding out her blue staff with both of her small hands. The shaft was a shining royal blue, metal vines holding a blue gem at the top of the staff; one similar to the gem on Vidya's forehead.
"Lookie what Mommie got me! S'kinda like a wheapon, yes?"
Enoh rolled her eyes towards Vidya as she completely disregarded any form of manners before rampaging into the house. Shaking her head, the shapeshifter turned her attention to Inle.
"Hello there...sorry if we're interupting anything! Vidya pretty much talked my ear off to get me to bring her here.""I's hidin from Mama," he said matter-of-factly, aware of Inle's presence in front of him but appearing not to care. Tybalt peered curiously at Vidya's staff, looking it over from end to end. "Issa stick? Stick's notta sword, but close 'nough I 'spose. I told Mama I needsed a sword and she said no, not yet. Lots." Only then did Tybalt acknowledge his mother's presence, glaring darkly at her before turning his attention back to his first mate. Inle turned partially and returned his glare, sticking her tongue out for good measure. Very mature, she was. "Damn right you're not getting a sword. You do enough damage without sharp, pointy objects, you little brat." It took her less than an instant to recompose herself as she turned back to her guest. "Nah, the only thing you interrupted was Tybalt getting in trouble again. But he'll get his later. You two are always welcome!" she said with a nod and a smile, stepping away from the door to allow Enoh entrance. "Hidin' from your Mommie? Whysat?"
Vidya tilted her head a bit in a curious manner.
"Naah. Momma said Viddy's too little to hava sword...but Viddy can HIT people with staff!"
Moving the staff to her left hand, Vidya threw her right arm into the air, obviously quite proud of that fact. Had she done so already? Of course she had. Then again, that one time was by accident only.
Enoh couldn't help but laugh, stepping through the doorway as she was allowed entrance. The shapeshifter eyed the two Tales before looking back towards Inle.
"I took Vidya out weapons shopping just to entertain her. She'd pointed out a lot of swords...and worse, Swallows...but when I told her she was too little, she settled for that staff of hers. We found it at a magic shop! He's in trouble, eh? Haha...oh, I'm sure you'll get him back! Its a mothers job, you know."
She laughed once more, shaking her head. Enoh had quite a bit of adopted children, so she took pride in getting each of them back for pulling any sort of stunt on her.Tybalt puffed himself up proudly, baring his teeth in a proud smile. "I was lootin' Mama's trezure chest, 'n she got mad 'n yelly so I ran 'way. 'F I had a sword, though, I c'd've jus' scared 'er off with it." This last bit was said loudly, for Inle's benefit. Inle growled at him. "I might be too tempted to use it on YOU, you turkey." Tybalt growled at her in return. "I's notta turkey! I's a PIRATE!" "You're about to be dinner if you don't get out of here, TURKEY. Take your friend elsewhere before I give into the urge to pluck you!" Tybalt blew a giant raspberry at her, but turned and ran down the hall, shouting "Come on, b'fore th' monsser gets us! We's gonna needs a CANNON to fight this one!" over his shoulder. Composing herself once more, Inle turned back to Enoh. "It IS a mother's job, at that. I should demand a raise," she said wryly. "Oh! Neat!"
Vidya giggled, turning her head from Inle to Tybalt as one or the other spoke. This was fun! Waving goodbye to her mother and Inle, Vidya ran after Tybalt, dragging her staff behind her.
"Eee....Mons'er! But Wheres we gonna gett'a cannon?"
Enoh turned towards Inle, laughing heartilly at the exchange. Oh, it'd been a long time since she faught like that with any of her kids...not since Teivel decided to be a rebel. Her laughter died into a knowing smile.
"Ah yes...Perhaps you should ask for a raise. But I think I get my pay when I see Vidya sleeping. BEST part about having a kid, right there.""I 'unno, I don' think we've gots cannons here!" He pondered this for a moment, then abruptly changed course. "I know where's we can gets weapons, though!" He cackled maniacally, his feet making clickclickclick noises as his claws tapped on the floor. Inle chuckled. Finally, a kindred spirit! "I think the best part about having a kid is having them grow up. Then you can have them do chores you'd rather not do. Free slave labor, right there." She was joking, mostly. Maybe. "Oh yeah? What kinda wheapons! Sounds'like fun!"
Vidya was giggling again as she followed after him; after all, she'd never been in here before! It was all so new...like another adventure! Hanging around Tybalt had proven to be completely awesome once more.
"Oh, and there's that too. Luckily for me...I have two employees. A Gunman and a Swordsman. The Swordsman avoids my house like the plague, but the Gunman is a wonderful babysitter! And of course there's my two oldest...twin Reindeer-like Humanoids. Not only do they do chores, but they babysit too!"
Enoh laughed...poor Vincent was always roped into watching any one of her younger children at any given point in time...and he STILL came to the house. Give that man a medal!
"But if you want a break, you could always drop someone off at my house for a bit. Its really no trouble, and I know how often we mothers need a break!""All kindsa weapons!" Tybalt replied with manic glee. Finally, he stopped at the threshold of a doorway, the room currently in the farthest reaches of the house. Inside the room was a couch that had obviously seen better days. It hardly looked like a couch at all, it was so dilapidated and cut up. Parts of it looked to be burned, while other parts were soaked with water. Small blades stuck out of a corner of an armrest. Populating the room were sprockets of all shapes and colors, although they were all roughly the same size. They whirled aimlessly around the room, as if each was dancing to its own internal tune. Their tinny, high-pitched voices rang out at once, each seeming to be talking to itself, creating a multitude of undefinable sounds. "Hey, thanks! I may take you up on that someday. Luckily, I've only got two infants left. The others are all a little older, and they don't give me half as much trouble as those two. They watch the kids, too, when I can't deal with them. I'm done with kids, though, for now. No more. For a long, long while, if ever again." So says the woman who went to the store for a pen and returned with a kid. Vidya peered over Tybalt's shoulder as he stopped, the nymph-child peering into the room. Of course, all of the sprockets had caught her attention, mainly due to them being rather shiney. Her white eyes widened, upon watching them - and probably worse, listening to them - as they moved and chattered.
"Oh WOW! They'r'Pretty, Cap'n! Loud too! They's wheapons?"
She had turned her white gaze to him curiously.
"Oh, no problem at all! I'll have to give you my address before we leave then! My only real infant is Vidya right now...though I do have two...err...objects...that are unborn as of yet, so that will most definately change."
Honestly, Enoh aquired her children in the strangest manner. One was an egg with wings, and the other was a gem.At the sound of Vidya's voice, all sound and motion in the room abruptly stopped, only to resume a moment later...only this time, the multitude of sprockets zipped towards the pair, surrounding them, their voices now having a purpose. Who you?!
What you want?
Go away!
Come and play!
Let us out!
Supercalifragilistic--"SHUT UP!" Tybalt roared over the din, feathers ruffled, and the sprockets did just that. They hovered nervously in midair, confused by this small creature that ordered them about. "We needs some of yous," he said, calming a bit. We get to leave?
Play?
Have fun?
--Expiali"SHUT UP!" Tybalt roared once more. "Not all. Jus' a few. Come closer, so we c'n reach." At this, the sprocket cloud hovered lower, putting themselves within easy reach of the children. Tybalt nodded approvingly at this before turning to Vidya. "Pick some sprockers fer weapons. They c'n shoot their ele...eler...the thingy they are. Like..." he paused, looking around before pointing. "Fire," he said, pointing to the fire sprocket. It detached itself from the group and came closer. Meanwhile, Inle tilted her head to the side. "Objects? That's a new one. And yes, please do. Having Tybalt visit someone else would be great. He needs to learn proper conduct around others...or something." Vidya squeaked as the cloud of sprockets came close to them, the nymph covering her head with her arms. Some pirate she was! Flinching as Tybalt yelled, she eventually lifted her head so she could see, and then slowly lowered her arms back down to her sides. Her eyes then went towards Tybalt as he showed her what to do...and hey, if Tybalt could do it, so could she!
"Ohtay..."
She mumbled as if it were just a passing thought, the girl looking around the sprocket army around them. Naturally the blue hued ones caught her attention...but then again so did those with hints of orange in them. Having made her decision, she pointed at a couple of the sprockets around them.
"Viddy can't choose 'tween Wah'er, Ice, Storm n'So-lar.."
Enoh chuckled, searching through her coat pockets, as well as her side bag, for anything that might be of use to write an address down.
"Tybalt seems to be doing okay with Vidya...Perhaps meeting more people would help him, too?"
She glanced up at Inle, before finding what she was looking for. Tugging out a piece of paper and a pen, Enoh wrote down her home address, giving it a good once-over before handing it to Inle.
"Ah...there. Better do it now before I forget!"Inle chuckled, taking the paper, glancing at it, and stuffing it in her pocket as she spoke. "I'm not sure if he can HANDLE other people. It shocked the hell out of me that he was able to get along so well with Vidya, after his horrible experiences with...some of the other Tales. Truth be told, he's a bit much even for me, sometimes. He's just got too much spunk for one kid, and it's great that Vidya can deal with that." As if only then realizing her manners, she straightened. "Sorry, just realized we're standing at the door. Would you like something to drink?" Tybalt seemed not to notice Vidya's moment of unease, and looked over her selections for a moment before nodding. "We takes 'em all. Stone 'n Blade, too. Ever'one else go 'way!" The chosen sprockets bobbed happily, glad to be given something to do. Tybalt turned back to Vidya, smiling reassuringly. "See? These're weapons enough t'fight th' Mamamonsser!" "Then I guess that means he's either got some form of friendliness to him...either that or Viddy just gained his favor on one of his good days. Vidya is a very energetic girl herself...I think they're the type that'll play until they pass out. Which is great that they're friends...let them tire eachother out."
Enoh chuckled, shaking her head a bit. Both were entirely possible, and the latter was something that sounded like music to the shapeshifter's ears. Said ears did twitch however, at the mention of drinks. She's also forgotten that they were standing in the doorway. Smiling a bit, she nodded.
"Sure...Might I ask what you have?"
"But...I dun wanna hurt me Mommie..."
She mumbled a bit to herself, her chosen sprockets bobbing and dancing around her. Vidya giggled at the antics of the sprockets before looking over at Tybalt again.
"Hey, y'think sprockers'll help us getta ship?"Tybalt's smirk was only slightly evil. "We don' haveta hurt YOUR Mama. Jus' mine." The Blade sprocket cackled at that, rotating in midair and making a sound much like a very small chainsaw. Tybalt perked up at the mention of a ship, glancing around at the sprockets that surrounded them both. "Yeah! Sprockers can, but we'll needs lots 'n lots 'n LOTS of 'em!" "I think her whole sea-likeness sealed the deal. He seems to love the sea...it only makes sense, being a pirate and all. That, and she didn't play with his feathers. He hates that, and I imagine it isn't too comfortable anyway." She nodded as if she had some idea what she was talking about. "Oh, we've got water, juice, milk, soda...and alcohol. Lots and lots of alcohol," she said with a rueful chuckle. Vidya didn't much like the idea of hurting anyone's mother. She leaned her head to the side, considering every other option they could take. She was a rather smart girl, and she knew that there had to be something else to do right now...doing what he wanted in this case seemed a very had idea...so that was going to be the extremely last resort.
Getting an idea, Vidya reached up and poked at the water sprocket that hovered close to her.
"Viddy has an i-d-er! If we hurted your Mommie, we gets into lotsa trouble, yes? Why dun we find a speshul cave or summin to hide in? So your Mommie and mine Mommie not find us!"
It made sense though...every pirate needed a cave to stash their loot, right? They were only starter pirates right now, and they didn't have anything but Vidya's staff and some shinies.
"Oh, that makes sense to. I'd imagine that was why he was so on guard when Vidya hugged him."
Enoh thought about it for a bit, and then her thoughts were brought back to Inle, who was listing off the available drinks.
"Hm...I think Water'll do for now, thank you!"Tybalt seemed to ponder this a moment, feathers ruffling and smoothing idly as he thought. Getting in trouble from the Mamamonster wouldn't be a good thing, but it was so much fun, regardless! He didn't want his first mate to get in trouble though--that might hinder their adventuring time. Reluctantly, he nodded. "We c'do tha', I 'spose," he said slowly, his mind already going through the possibilities. Wasn't there a closet somewhere they could hide in? Something big, where no one ever checked? It was then that Tybalt remembered Inle's mention of the basement, and her warning never to go down there. "I know where t'go! Follow me!" he ordered, then took off running, the sprockets trailing behind him. Inle nodded and led the way to the kitchen. "Come to think of it, I think Vidya's the only person other than me who's been brave enough to hug the little monster." Although her words were somewhat insulting, a tone of affection lingered in her voice. Vidya was overjoyed at the fact that they weren't going to go after his mother...yet. Clapping her small blue hands together.
"Okay! R'ght behind yah, Cap'n!"
She giggled softly, before taking off after Tybalt. The sprockets she had chosen squeaking before flying after her. Well, they weren't going to go after Inle anymore, so this meant more adventures! Adventures = Fun.
Enoh grinned proudly, following after Inle. She had picked up the insult, but the tone in the woman's voice made her disregard it.
"I think Vidya knew that is she was careful, she wouldn't get hurt like Olivia did. She's a remarkably smart child, even though she can't seem to speak properly."
The shapeshifter tapped her fingertips to her lips.
"Though I also think that if he bit her...or worse...she probably wouldn't have even tried to hug him.""I don't think any child can speak perfectly at that age," Inle said as she walked into the kitchen, making a beeline for the cupboards. She pulled out a clear plastic cup, its circumference decorated with fish, and walked over to the sink. After turning it on, she called over her shoulder, "And Tybalt's not a biter, thankfully. A hitter, a kicker, and a scratcher yes, but not a biter." She finished filling the glass and turned back to Enoh, holding it out to her. "And Vidya IS smart, and imaginative to boot. She picked up on the whole pirating thing pretty easily, I noticed." Meanwhile, Tybalt's pace slowed to a walk as he approached the door to the basement, which was close enough to the kitchen that he didn't want to risk making too much noise. He silently shushed the sprockets, which were still ecstatic about their new playmates. The basement door seemed more nondescript than any other structure in the house. It was made of plain oak and had an abandoned, unfinished feel to it. The knob had once been silver, but was now somewhat tarnished with disuse. A padlock had been positioned towards the top of the door, and was high above the reach of the two Tales. Tybalt turned and carefully plucked the Blade sprocket from the air. "You," he said in a whisper, "go float up there 'n unlock th' door fer us." With a conspirator's giggle, it floated upwards, inserting itself awkwardly in the lock. "Ah, thats not what I meant. With her age aside, sometimes her speech can get worse than a child who is just learning how. But nevermind that!"
Enoh smiled softly. That usually only happened when Vidya was excited beyond words. The shapeshifter had read about that once...how a child's brain moved too fast for the mouth to comprehend, and therefore, speech impediments, studdering or even lack of speech completely.
"Thankfully for that, then. Like I said before...its great that they're friends, they can tire eachother out and actually sleep at night. Hah...thank you."
She smiled, accepting the glass of water, and taking a small sip of it before speaking once more.
"I think her picking up on the pirating thing started when she watched one of the Pirate movies I own. She seemed to like that movie an awful lot, and when she connected Tybalt with a pirate, she figured adventures were close at hand. The rest is just a child's imagination! Tybalt seems full of it, imagination I mean, as well...He also seems very smart, and sometimes I noticed that he can act older then his age."
Vidya had seen Tybalt slow down, and to avoid a collision with him, she too slowed down and walked slower. She also tried to make herself quieter, since she could hear their mothers speaking in the not too distant kitchen. The blue child turned, and pressed her finger against her lips to silence the sprockets around her, though she had to clasp her hands over her lips to surpress one of her giggles. This was too much fun, she couldn't help it!
Since Tybalt was busy with the sprockets,Vidya set to watch out for their Mothers, other animals, or even monsters and pirates. Nobody was gonna take their hiding place away from them!Inle nodded slowly, leaning back against the counter. "He seems more like an old man than an infant, sometimes. He's certainly as grumpy as one, to be sure. I worry sometimes that he's too serious, but then he pulls s**t like he did tonight and it reminds me that he's got his own definition of 'fun.' Tybalt's a very...different child. Where he's serious, Vidya's outgoing and fun. I think that's one of the reasons why they get along so well." It took a moment, but the sprocket was able to unlock the only thing that stood between the pirates and their hiding place. It seemed to get stuck, however, and squeaked as it tried to free itself. It shook the lock back and forth, and it was only by a stroke of luck that it managed to get itself, still in the lock's clutches, free of the metal that held the door shut. It seemed to scream in a high-pitched voice as it fell to the ground, its own meager weight overpowered by that of the heavy lock. Tybalt's eyes widened and he immediately reached a hand out, catching it as it fell-- --only to have the flesh of his palm punctured by the sharp teeth of the sprocket. His eyes widened further and he clenched his jaw tightly to stifle his cry; it wouldn't do to have their plans revealed when they were so close to victory, and he'd be damned if he showed weakness in front of his first mate. Tybalt took a deep breath and removed the lock-laden sprocket with his free hand before similarly removing the sprocket from the lock. He placed the latter on the ground, beside small droplets of blood that had dripped from his injury. The sprocket began thanking him and apologizing to him alternately, and Tybalt shook his head. "Shuddup, sprocker. You've done 'nough." With that, he reached up with his good hand and turned the doorknob, pushing open the troublesome plank of wood as the knob turned to allow them entrance. "The world works best with balance, or so I understand."
Enoh eyed the cup of water she held in her hand. It was true though, what Inle had said. The shapeshifter had noticed it too...and it was also the same visa-versa...or so she would wager. She really hadn't seen Vidya very serious yet, only a few rare times, and even then they were momentary.
The high pitched scream of the sprocket rang in her kitsune ears, though extensions flattening instantly against the sides of her head, as if to block out the noise. The shapeshifter flinched openly, nearly dropping her glass of water from the shock of the noise. Luckily, the scream faded quickly, leaving Enoh in a relatively dizzy state. Setting her water down on the counter, she pressed the palm of her right hand against her forehead.
"Ugh...what the hell...?"
She hadn't connected the scream to the Tale infants, though.
Vidya pressed her hands against her ears as the sprocket screamed, looking over her shoulder just in time to see Tybalt get hurt by the blades on the device. Her white eyes widened, the blue child swaying a bit as if she were about to faint. She'd never seen real blood before, and it made her rather queasy.
Shaking her head free of the dizzy feeling, Vidya lowered her hands. A PIRATE can't be afraid of blood! Thats unheard of! She knew better than to ask Tybalt if he was okay, though any glance at her expression would be clearer than words; the nymph was worried about him. Instead, the girl sidestepped a bit, so she could see over Tybalt a little better, and into the darkness of the basement.
"Wow, s'at tha cave?"Inle's head canted to the side, brows furrowing in concern for her guest. She frowned a bit, confused; she didn't have the same hearing capabilities as Enoh, and hadn't heard a thing. "Are you alright? The water didn't go bad again, did it?" "Yah," Tybalt whispered, nodding before plucking the fire sprocket right out of the air. "You give us a light so we c'n see, k?" he ordered, releasing the sprocket. Silently, it entered the darkness, seeming to disappear for a moment before seeming to set itself on fire. The light it created was just enough to see by. The first several stairs of the old, rickety staircase were visible, along with the dust-covered railing. The stairs seemed to descend into black nothingness, but time would tell what lie at the bottom of them. Carefully, Tybalt started down the stairs, beckoning for Vidya to follow with his good hand. "I...I think so. Something was screeching...but its gone now. Damn that hurt...! But no, the water's perfectly fine."
She flinched once more, rubbing at her still lowered ears.
Vidya was about to bring up her gem again, but the words died on her lips as the fire sprocket made itself into a floating torch. The Tale shrugged visibly...the light of her gem would only be enough for her right now anyway.
She had already began to follow after him, even before he made the beckoning motion. One of her hands rested on the dusty railing, having gained a habit to use a railing when descending a staircase, if one was available.
She then leaned her head to the side, focusing her eyes on the back of Tybalt's head.
"Why does yer Momma lock up tha door?"Screeching? That was a new one, to her anyway. Inle mentally went through the creatures that inhabited her home, trying to think of any that would make such a noise. Most of her animals could screech, true enough, but something like that? Her mind immediately went to the sprockets, but they made sounds for no reason all the time. Shrugging, she dismissed it. "Sorry about that. The creatures that probably made it...well, they're weird to say the least. You need some tylenol, or something?" Tybalt's hands were fisted at his sides, at the ready just in case they were attacked. His wings were splayed for balance, ensuring that he wouldn't go toppling head-first down into the dark depths of the basement. "Dunno," he replied. "She says there's a seecert lab down 'ere, 'n monssers, but we c'n take on monssers easy 'nough." His tone was confident, and finally, the sprocket's glow illuminated the cracked concrete floor of the basement. "Ah, no thank you. I don't really have a headache, it was more of a sudden shock. What kind of creature was that anyway? If you don't mind my asking."
Smiling somewhat, Enoh reached over to grab her glass of water, taking another sip. Her ears were too stubborn to perk again, or so it would seem. It was almost as if they were afraid of being screeched at again.
Vidya let go of the banister and grabbed her staff with both hands at the mere mention of monsters. Okay, they were in a dark, creepy basement, were equipped with a floating torch, and had no idea what was down there. It was an ADVENTURE. An Adventure with the possibility of aquiring a hiding place! Vidya's face brightened once more, eyeing the floor as it came into view.
"Mons'ers, huh? Meybee ya can get your Mommie to getchu a wheapon now! Or Meybe you could FIND wheapon! Oh. Whoops!"
She then quieted down, remembering that they were supposed to be sneaking."It was a sprocket, most likely. A...little floating gear-type thing. Strange creatures, annoying as hell. I seem to have accumulated a bunch of them, though I'm not sure why or how. One of them or another's usually floating through the house." They were so much more than that, but it was hard for Inle to explain it without actually showing Enoh one. Tybalt glanced over his shoulder at Vidya, about to tell her to keep her voice down when she realized her own mistake. "Mebbe," he agreed reluctantly, "but I don' think so." He followed the light of the sprocket, which had drifted towards towards the corner in front of the staircase. A rack of flimsy-looking metal shelving sat against the staircase wall. The two bottom shelves were occupied by jugs, their labels torn, faded, or nonexistant--Inle's photo developing chemicals. The other four shelves held small bottles, vials, and boxes containing materials that belonged to the house's former owner. Some of those held chemicals as well; others still housed all manner of metaphysical materials. A cupboard/table-like structure jutted out from the wall in front of the staircase. It looked, to Tybalt, slightly like the cabinets he and Vidya had crawled through on their first treasure hunt. Odd-looking machines sat atop it, with trays next to them; a pair of enlargers and trays of the photochemcials stored in the shelves' jugs. They caused the whole room to smell slightly acrid. Tybalt looked over all of this with interest, not noticing the large, red eyes peering at him and his companion from the room's darkest corner... "A sprocket? I've heard of them, actually. I didn't think they were that loud. Its almost like it was falling."
The shapeshifter mused over his one, rubbing one of her ears with her free hand. A falling sprocket was unusual, considering they could float and all that fun stuff.
Vidya looked at Tybalt only when he spoke. In truth, the items on the walls were much more interesting than any comment in response to her own question. She did pay attention though, because she respected him as her Captain.
When her white eyes found the cabinets infront of them, the small child couldn't help but giggle. She recognized those! Well, sort of. Somehow though, she doubted there would be any shinies in that cabinet. Shaking her head to her her bangs out of her face, Vidya pulled her long white and blue streaked hair over her shoulder, braiding it in a half-hearted manner so it would stay out of her way.
As she looked around the room, Vidya caught a glimpse of something strange. Something...red, and staring in their general direction. Biting her lip to bite back a whimper, Vidya backed up a few paces, considering tugging on his arm...though that idea died pretty quickly. Instead, she poked his shoulder once.
"Uhh...Cap'n...?""Falling? Those things?" Inle rubbed her chin, as if in thought. The sprockets WERE prone to trouble, and stranger things had happened since the horde had descended upon her home...it still smacked of something odd. "Do you think you can pinpoint where it came from?" If nothing else, it bore investigation, just in case. Tybalt was so lost exploring this newfound cavern that it took him a moment to register that he was being addressed. Reluctantly, he pulled his gaze away from the wall. "Huh? Whassit, Videe--whoa!" he exclaimed in surprise as he too saw the red eyes of...whatever it was. The fire sprocket was still behind the pair, leaving the rest of the room outside its warm glow pitch black; the eyes had the effect of floating, and Tybalt couldn't help but stare. The creature blinked once before its large eyes narrowed, and it shuffled in the dark. This snapped Tybalt out of his awe-struck stupor, and he frantically began looking for something to beat this new threat back with. He smiled rogueishly as he caught sight of a broom resting against the side of the metal rack and immediately dove for it. Surprisingly, he grabbed the handle around its middle rather than its base, giving him a more manageable staff-like weapon rather than a long, unwieldy sword. He turned back to the monster and rushed back to his first mate's side, brandishing this odd weapon. "Back, beesie!" he barked, all business now. ((Again, feel free to gm the " beesie." xd )) Enoh looked around, then pointed in the general direction of the basement door. She didn't know the layout of the house, but she did know the louder sound came from that direction.
"That way, I think...Hm."
She paused, her arm slowly hovering back to her side.
"..Do you think it could've been the kids? I thought I also heard Vidya before the screeching."
Vidya squeaked as the thing's eyes narrowed. The girl considered hiding...but what kind of pirate would she be, if she didn't stand up to her fears? The only problem was...she had no idea what to do. Her white eyes still wide, and still locked on the beast, Vidya almost cried out in objection as Tybalt disappeared from her side...that wasn't fair! Needless to say, the girl sighed with relief when he re-appeared with the broom.
The broom...oh yeah!
Getting a rather stern look about her, Vidya nodded firmly and grasped her staff with both hands, holding the jeweled tip out towards the beast. With her staff and newfound courage, the Tale had no problem facing this foe.
"Yeah, g'itback! We not 'fraid of you!"Inle couldn't help but immediately think, Crap, what did that pillow with legs get into now?! "With Tybalt's bad influence, I'm almost certain it's the kids." Her apprehension grew as she noticed which direction Enoh was pointing in. "It's worth checking out, I suppose..." she trailed off, almost afraid to see what the pair of pirates had gotten into this time. She remembered their first adventure all too well; more specifically, how long it had taken to clean the dust, dirt, and bug guts from Tybalt's feathers. The creature's slitted eyes turned to Vidya at her bold proclamation, and Tybalt took that opportunity to jab the broom's handle into the darkness. There was a thud, and a grunt from the creature...but the handle didn't come out. Tybalt pulled back on the broom, unwilling to give up his only weapon. He threw his weight back, but failed to wrest the handle from the creature's grasp; in fact, it seemed to be pulling the handle towards itself slow inches at a time. Tybalt's eyes narrowed in determination and he tried to dig his claws into the ground in order to get some leverage. The floor of the basement was concrete, however, and it only sent jolts running through his legs. Tybalt fought these and only dug in harder. "No--" he growled, shaking the hat off his head as it slipped over an eye. His movements towards the shadows were slower now. "You--" a small noise could be heard, and cracks spiderwebbed around Tybalt's feet. " DON'T!" he yelled, and immediately stopped moving. There was a louder crack--it seemed his claws had penetrated the surface of the concrete, and he was anchored by it. There was another crack, and the broom handle came out of the shadows--what was left of it, anyway. Just over a half foot of it was gone, appearing to have been bitten off. Tybalt lost his balance and fell on his feathered rump, his claws remaining embedded in the floor. The creature growled. "Well...bad influence or not, Vidya's still having fun. As long as she doesn't start smashing things at home, I think I can let them play."
Enoh laughed softly, shaking her head. Vidya was a good kid...and she was adventurous anyway, even when she wasn't with Tybalt. The shapeshifter was also half joking on the smashing items thing, though...Vidya had already broken a few lamps, but Enoh had wanted to smash them herself, so she didn't mind too much.
She turned, waiting for Inle to lead the way...after all, this wasn't her own house.
Vidya squeaked as the red eyes were focused on her, her own eyes darting towards Tybalt when he jabbed at the creature. The nymph watched her Captain struggle, looking between him and the red-eyed monster lurking in the shadows...there had to be something she could do! But what?
Blinking blankly, Vidya slowly began to creep into the shadows, backing out of the light that came from the sprocket. Remembering her gem, Vidya covered the decoration with one of her hands so it wouldn't give away her position, keeping the creature's glowing red eyes in her sight. She remembered the game called "tag" that she was told about. Somebody hides, and the others seek, right? Their situation seemed to fit right now...and besides, Tybalt needed help!
Once she was close enough to hear the creatures breathing, Vidya uncovered her gem to grasp her staff boldly in two hands, the faint light of her decoration glowing like moonlight on the water's surface...and then Vidya hesitated.
As Tybalt uttered his second growled word, Vidya was brought back to her senses, shaking her head and lifting the staff over her head. By the time Tybalt had finished yelling, there was another sound. A smaller, less violent sound that came inbetween the two cracking noises...the sound of a dull thud.
Since the creature had been focused on Tybalt, Vidya had no problem smacking the thing's body...well, at least thats what she hoped she did. Her actions were confirmed by the creature's growl, the beast recovering from the smack to slowly drag its red eyes towards her.
Snatching her staff against her again, Vidya backed up a few steps so she wasn't as close to the creature, suddenly feeling very brave.
"You sta'way from the Cap'n, yah oogly beesie!"Inle headed out of the kitchen, thankful that there were a minimum of halls to wander down. What she was not thankful for, however, was the open door leading down to the one restricted place in the house. The basement door was wide open, the padlock that had held it shut sitting beside it. The heavy piece of metal appeared to be scratched, and Inle idly wondered what had happened to it. It was then that she heard Vidya's voice. Meanwhile, Tybalt struggled to stand, though it was difficult with his claws embedded into the floor as they were. He finally boosted himself up with what was left of the broom handle, but his claws refused to open. The red eyes were slowly advancing towards Vidya, as if the creature sought to pin her between itself and the wall. In frustration, Tybalt looked around for something to help him out of the literal hole he was in, only to find the group of sprockets hovering excitedly in a corner of the room. "Don' jus' stan' there, attack th' monsser!" he commanded. The sprockets entered the fray, and the monster was pelted with elemental debris, diverting its attention for a moment. The storm sprocket had just been swatted out of the air when suddenly, the room brightened, and Tybalt, the monster, and the sprockets stopped what they had been doing and looked to the top of the stairs. There stood Inle, one hand on the lightswitch, murder in her eyes. Tybalt, who had finally managed to get a foot free, muttered an "uh oh."

3/26/05 - PD with Vidya (continued) Vidya squeaked as the creature came closer, the girl backing up rather slowly. This was not good...definately not good. She couldn't trust her feet very well anymore neither, as the basement had more items and curves in it than the cabinet had in their first adventure, and now she had to see or feel around to avoid getting caught, or even falling over.
Sighing in relief upon hearing Tybalt's command to the sprockets, Vidya used this chance to slide to the ground and crawl away from the beast, praying she didn't hit anything...after all, she had covered up her gem so it wouldn't give away her position.
Enoh followed after Inle, her ears perking as she came to the door to the basement, eyeing the padlock on the ground, and then the open staircase below them. Those red eyes of hers darted around in the darkness, having clearly heard Vidya speak.
"Vidya?"
"Mommah?"
Vidya blinked in the darkness, looking around for her mother, since she was certain that she had heard Enoh's voice. Suddenly, the lights came on. The poor girl, who had been wide-eyed as she looked around, instantly shut her eyes and dropped her head down, the light so amazingly startling to her.
Enoh, blinking her eyes since she was finally able to see into the once dark basement, first spotted Vidya near the base of the stairs, curled up. Glancing over the room to Tybalt as he was stuck in the concrete, and then to the 'beast' Vidya had previously been addressing, Enoh could only assume that what happened here could have gotten rather ugly.
Sliding past Inle, Enoh moved down the stairs and picked Vidya up, scooping the small girl into her arms. She hugged her daughter gently. Enoh ignored the beast completely...Vidya was more important.
"Are you okay, sweetling?"
Vidya, having returned the hug, pointed back at Tybalt and the Beast, wrinkling up her nose as she saw the creature for the first time...it didn't look all that scary anymore. Still, she seemed proud of herself.
"Yep! Cap'n Tybo N' me were s'plorin! And then dat...thingy 'tacked us!"
The helpful girl told her mother the entire story...of course, maybe a little more extravagant than the reality of the situation. The "monster's" large eyes were suited for darkness, and were unable to handle the sudden light, so it made a beeline for the dark space under the stairs. Inle seemed to ignore the creature and stomped down the stairs towards Tybalt, whose blue eyes were growing larger by the second. His struggles to get his remaining foot free of the floor redoubled to no avail, for Inle was immediately upon him. "What is the one place, out of the ENTIRE HOUSE, that I've told you I don't know how many times not to go?!" she yelled at him as she crouched down to his level. "Th' basement," he mumbled, fighting off a wince as she grabbed his foot. "The basement," she parroted (ha), trying to work his claws out of the concrete. "Do you know why you're not allowed in the basement?" "Cuz there's a monsser in th' basement?" he guessed, clenching his claws as Inle got his foot free. "Ash," she started, for that was the creature's name, "is not a monster. He just doesn't like the light, or other people, and the basement is off-limits to everyone but me. Ash could have hurt you, sweetie. Furthermore, he could've hurt Vidya, too. The basement is locked for a reason, Tybalt, do you understand?" "Yes," muttered Tybalt, more than a little embarassed to be talked to in such a manner in front of his first mate. "Good. Go apologize to Enoh and Vidya for almost getting Vidya eaten, now." Tybalt walked towards them, shoulders slumped, head hung. "Sorry," he mumbled, his eyes never leaving the floor. Vidya had lapsed into silence when Tybalt started to get into trouble. She felt bad, she really did...she knew she had something to do with them coming down here...it wasn't right for him to get in trouble alone! Besides, if he got in trouble, they might not be able to play for a while!
The only problem was, she had no idea what to say right now to remedy this. She didn't want to interfere with Inle...mainly because the woman's tone of voice scared her. All adults were scary when they got that sort of tone...it also didn't help that adults were much taller than she was.
White eyes watched Tybalt come closer as he was told to apologize, and it was then that she gained enough courage to speak up...it wasn't fair that it was only Tybalt getting in trouble!
"But Viddy star-ted it..!"
Enoh blinked, giving her daughter a curious look, one that turned into disbelief. This was the first time Vidya had ever started the trouble, if it were true. Then again...kids will be kids.
"You started it, Viddy?"
The Tale nodded, squirming out of her Mother's arms to stand beside Tybalt.
"Uh huh! Me ask'd tha Cap'n 'bout a seecret cave...so Viddy star-ted it!"
Pouting a bit, she looked back over at Inle, somehow very brave about this situation right now.
"So tha Cap'n not only one who gets trubble...! Viddy did't too!"
Enoh blinked. She hadn't realized Viddy was this brave for taking the blame...but she also had to admire her loyalty to the other Tale. The shapeshifter eyed the infants, and then looked up towards Inle.
"So we should punish the pirates together, then?"Tybalt's head snapped up in disbelief as he stared wide-eyed at his first mate. His mind whirled at the unexpected show of loyalty; it was the first time in his young life that anyone had stood up for him like that. From the first time they met, his usual distrust of people hadn't seemed to apply to Vidya. She seemed too friendly to be wary of, too trusting, too nice. It was only at that moment, however, that Vidya's trust began to be reciprocated. It seemed that finally, Tybalt had made his first real friend. After a long moment of bewildered staring, he blinked and looked up at the pair of mothers. The wing closest to Vidya extended, partially encompassing her; it seemed that whatever happened to them, he would be with her until the end. "Aye," he stated firmly. "We be punished t'gether." Inle couldn't hold her anger against such a strong display of loyalty, and her mood shifted a bit as she saw the change in Tybalt's expression. He seemed to have matured a bit as he accepted and returned Vidya's loyalty, and Inle couldn't help but be proud of him. She allowed herself a grin in spite of the fact that she was supposed to be upset with the Captain. "I think we should at that, Enoh. Any suggestions?" Vidya had no wings to extend...and thus, she did the next best thing, and generally what any toddler would do in this sort of situation, standing up for a friend. The tale reached over and grasped his small hand with her own, feeling she was allowed to do it since he put his wing around her. Casting a sideways glance at Tybalt, she briefly smiled before looking back up at the adults, waiting for their punishment.
Enoh had such a hard time keeping her grim face, though she was losing miserably as a soft smile parted her lips. She wanted to badly to just pull the two Tales into a huge hug they were so cute! The only thing that stopped her from doing that, was the simple fact that something had to be done about the situation.
Shifting her weight onto her left leg, Enoh tapped her chin with her right index finger, her other hand resting on her hip.
"Well lets see...we could ground them both...No adventuring for two weeks, perhaps? Or maybe some sort of chore... What do you think, Inle? Any suggestions on your part?"Tybalt's gaze moved from Inle to his and Vidya's grasped hands, startled. He hadn't been expecting that, but he was surprised to find that he didn't really mind it. He looked up once more, returning her smile before facing the adults with happy bravery. Ohh, the squeeing that Inle wanted to indulge in but couldn't because she was supposed to be mad at Tybalt and Vidya for almost getting eaten! Alas, she had to do the parenting thing, much to her dismay. Setting the urge to fawn over the children aside, she nodded. "Oh, two weeks at the very least. AND they should have to clean up the basement, after the sprockets did such a good job getting it dirty." She nodded sagely, pointing at the mess the sprockets had left behind, mostly in their haste to escape Inle's wrath. Splintered wood also littered the battlefield, along with bits of cracked concrete. "Hm...Alright then. Lets see now...I think three weeks of no adventuring and having to clean up the basement is a fitting punishment, then. That seems fair on all accounts"
They wanted to get punished together, so it made sense they would clean the basement together...and the three weeks grounding would let them know how bad of a situation they had been in...after all, three weeks could feel like years to a toddler.
Enoh smiled over at Inle, wanting so badly to get get upstairs again, where she could fawn over them without them knowing. But she knew she wasn't allowed to leave until she was positive they had started cleaning.
Vidya fought the flinch at the mention of a three week grounding...though the cleaning part didn't seem so bad. She cast a glance around the room as Inle pointed to it, looking at the splintered wood from the broom, the concrete that had been lifted with Tybalt's claws, and then the general dustiness of the place.
"Okay Mommie."
The Tale nodded slowly upon hearing her punishment, and it was obvious that she had no regrets about sticking up for Tybalt. None whatsoever. The set of Tybalt's jaw and the rebellious gleam in his eye clearly let Inle know that although the pirate's adventures were temporarily put on hold, they were by no means over completely. Inle knew that, even grounded, Tybalt would find some way to get into trouble; it seemed that Tybalt knew that Inle knew, and reveled in it. "Aye, s'ok," Tybalt said in a too-sweet tone. Inle cringed inwardly before retrieving a dustpan from the rack of shelving. The broken broom would have to suffice, she supposed, as it was the only one down there, and there was a large garbage can in the corner. "Just...try not to break anything else, alright you two?" Enoh shook her head a little bit, turning to start her walk back up the stairs shortly after the little ones had aquired their cleaning utensils. The shapeshifter stopped at the top of the stairs and waited for Inle, and also for their troublemakers to start cleaning.
"Okay...we b'careful..."
Vidya let go of Tybalt's hand slowly, and just to toddle over to Inle. She held her hands up for the dustpan, figuring it would be as good of a place as any to start. The quicker you start, the quicker its over, after all...but then again, once they were finished cleaning, chances are she wouldn't get to see Tybalt for another three weeks. That thought made her pout.Oh, not the pouting! ANYTHING but the pouting! While Inle was totally immune to pouting from her own children, it was quite a different story when she was being subjected to it by someone else's. Vidya's adorably crestfallen expression nearly made her argue with the punishment laid out by Enoh and herself, but she knew she had to be firm. Fighting a pout herself, she wordlessly handed Vidya the dustpan and followed Enoh upstairs, shooting the other woman a helpless look once she caught up to her. Tybalt shot his mother a look before beginning to awkwardly sweep the debris into a pile; short arms did not make for easy sweeping, it seemed. What Inle was feeling was one of the main reasons Enoh had detached herself from the group earlier on. Of course, she'd forgotten to warn Inle...whoops. The shapeshifter had taken care of smaller children before, and she had quickly grown immune to pouting. But then...there was a gap of time in which there were no small children, and then BAM - Vidya. The girl was adorable on all accounts, and the infant pout had started to affect her again. Enoh blamed the softness the child-less period of time had given her.
She gave Inle the same helpless look, though hers was tinged with an apologetic look for not dragging her away earlier.
Vidya blinked at the strange look on Inle's face. Of course, she wondered what the adult was doing...maybe she got sick all of the sudden? Oh well. In anycase, Vidya grasped the dustpan in both of her hands, kneeling down to set its base on the floor in Tybalt's sweeping path.
"Viddy's sorry, Cap'n"
She didn't look at him, rather focusing her white eyes on the dustpan she was still holding to the ground. Vidya really did believe it was her fault, and hers alone.Inle stepped onto the landing, shaking her head at the whole situation. "That's some dirty pool," she whispered to Enoh, laughter in her tone. She could blame neither the child nor the parent, however; it was just all apart of Vidya's incredibly sweet nature. Tybalt, meanwhile, shook his head vehemently at Vidya's apology. "S'not yer fault," he said adamantly. "I shoulda foun' somewhere else t'take us." He wasn't sorry they had had the adventure, not in the least. He was only sorry they had gotten caught. "'N...'n ya didn' have t'say tha', wasn't yer fault," he said again, his awkward attempt at a thank-you failing miserably. "Ugh no kidding...its torture living with her in that regard."
Enoh had murmured back to Inle, shaking her head with a small chuckle. The shapeshifter peered back at the children, who were already talking to eachother about whose fault it was...and really, she couldn't help but smile. Drawing her attention back to Inle, Enoh heaved a sigh of relief.
"Oh thank GOD I got out of there before I caved and lifted the sentence...!"
"But I started it...! Basem'nt was best place for cave..."
Vidya frowned. Yes, it was her fault! As she said, she'd started it after all...and she'd keep telling him that until he gave in. The tale picked up some of the larger pieces of debris that littered the floor around her, though one hand was still on the handle to the dustpan.
"So me had to say someting! Can't let Cap'n get in trubble 'lone."Inle chuckled, shaking her head. "She's a handful in her own right, isn't she? I mean, it can't be easy living with all that cuteness. I just wanted to pick her up and hug her, and the way she tried to take all the blame? Adorable!" Tybalt resumed his head-shaking. "No. "'S'a Cap'n's JOB t'protect 'is men...er...e'en though yer a girl. 'M not s'posed to let ya get in trouble." Carefully, awkwardly, he swept bits of wood and concrete into the dustpan. "Oh...very much so. Very much so..."
Enoh rolled her eyes, shaking her head slowly shortly afterwards. Vidya had never been a bad kid, so she was never the handful in the destuctive sense...but she was energetic, and she was way too cute to say no to. She laughed softly then.
"Oh my, I was trying SO hard to not squee at that...I had no idea she was that loyal to him already! And Tybalt? Ugh...! Too cute! I was so close to saying he didn't have to apologise...! He can endanger her anyday, if he has to apologise to me like that!"
Enoh wasn't sure if she was joking or not, but in anycase, she had a laugh over it.
"Well...! Uh. Well...Tha Firs'mate hasta watch out for her Cap'n, righ'?"
Oh, was Vidya ever stubborn...and she really wanted to take her part of the blame for this at any cost. She didn't know if that was true or not, but it sounded good, anyway. She dropped her collected pieces of debris into the dustpan as well.Inle laughed softly, having been thinking the same thing. "I know what you mean, it was totally a Kodak moment! They could rob banks and get away with it with those sad faces of theirs, I bet. They're going to break a lot of hearts--and locks--when they get older, I can feel it." Vidya wasn't the only one who was stubborn. Tybalt's feathers fluffed, and he shook his head once more. "S'nice, but no. S'my ree-spon-si-builty." Inle had been teaching him the word, and he was quite proud of the fact that he finally got to use it in context. "Don' want y't'get in trouble anyway." Enoh couldn't help but giggle. The bank part...oh yes, that was plausible...and she really hoped they wouldn't rob banks in the future...but a heartbreaker? Enoh doubted Vidya would ever do that intentionally, knowing that girl's personality. The shapeshifter stubbornly brushed those thoughts aside; they were only infants right now...she could worry about that later.
"Reminds me of Puss in Boots...y'know, the Shrek version? Ah...and the lock thing? They've already got that part down."
She pointed over her shoulder at the basement door, her kitsune ears twitching, as if worried and amused at the same time.
"And thats a very scary thought. But heartbreakers? Oooh...I don't want to think about that at this stage of the game...!
Vidya's side wings lowered as Tybalt's feathers fluffed, somehow getting the idea that she should back down now. She pressed her lips together, almost as if she wasn't pleased about having to back down on this subject...but she did anyway, out of respect. Not that she knew what respect was, of course. Vidya just figured that if she made Tybalt mad, he wouldn't let her play with him anymore. That was something she didn't want at all.
"...Okay."
She brightened suddenly, throwing her arms into the air. It was a good thing she wasn't holding anything.
"But Viddy's'n'trubble anyhoo! Its'okay."
Yep, that was good enough. Vidya went back to cleaning, suddenly stopping and staring at a piece of concrete in her hand. After a few seconds, she looked back up at him, then at her side as she fished around the "belt" of her chiton, looking for something. Finding this object, she held it out to him on her open palm.
"Oh yeah! Viddy got dis for you! Viddy c'nt tell what Gemmie does...but me wants you ta keepit safe 'till Viddy c'n tell, okay?"
(( "Gemmie" ))Inle snorted at the Shrek reference and nodded. "Heartbreakers indeed: they melted ours, didn't they?" She couldn't help but grin. Inwardly, Inle thought it would be cool if they started robbing banks together. It would be like a modern Bonnie and Clyde, with some...obvious differences. She only hoped that, if they did decide to go that route, they didn't share the same fate as their predecessors. Tybalt's feathers smoothed as he relaxed, happy to get his point across. His head hung a bit at the reminder that he was unsuccessful at getting his first mate off the hook. "'M sorry fer gettin' y'in trouble, Videe," he said softly, blue eyes half-lidded. He immediately perked up, however, at the sight of the blue child's offering. "'S fer me? Thank'ee, Videe!" He took the gem eagerly, examining it for a moment before quickly tucking it beneath his hat. Tybalt smiled, fighting the urge to do the hugging thing Vidya kept doing. While it was fine if she did it, some inner sense told him it would be improper if he were to indulge in the action. "Oh, they most certainly did."
Enoh shook her head, gaining a rather helpless look as she admitted to the obvious. Heaving a sigh, the shapeshifter rolled her eyes a bit, before looking down at her watch.
"Hm...Once they're finished cleaning down there...We really should get going. We've got some shopping to finish!"
"S'okay, Cap'n! Viddy's not mad."
The blue child nodded almost sagely, her braided hair bouncing softly with the movement. While Vidya was convinced it was her fault in the first place, she'd already given up arguing about it...and that much was evident with her answer.
Vidya clapped happily as he accepted her present, crawling over to do the thing he'd been fighting the urge to do; the Nymph hugged him happily.
"Yay, Tha Cap'n likes Viddy's pres'nt! Oh yeah."
She let go of him then, suddenly remembering that they were supposed to be in trouble; and that meant not being able to have fun for three weeks. The girl pouted a bit upon remembering that, but was otherwise still the happy child she'd been when she came for a visit.
Offering him a smile, Vidya went back to cleaning, dropping her collection into the garbage.Inle nodded, craning her neck to peer down the basement stairs. "That's alright, Tybalt probably needs a bath after his adventure, and I suppose I should start looking for better locks. Can't have him getting into everything while he's stuck in the house, after all." Normally, Tybalt was adverse to physical contact from anyone at all; he was reluctant to be touched even by his own mother. For some reason, however, he didn't mind it so much when Vidya hugged him, and he eagerly returned it. He grinned a bit, feeling much more at ease although she broke away quickly. Tybalt tilted his head as he regarded the look upon her face. "'S'ok, Videe, y'don' have t'ask anymore. Yer m'firs' mate, 'n y'can hug me whene'er. But only you can, no one else." He nodded decidedly before turning to pick up the last large fragments of debris. "Keypads."
Enoh said with a nod. Password locking systems...that outta keep out small children with sprockets!
Vidya lit up happily as he returned her hug with more enthusiasm than he'd ever had before. Yep, now her day was the best one ever. Beaming, she completely overlooked the fact that she wasn't thinking about needing permission to hug him, and instead focused on what he'd told her.
"YAY! Danke, Cap'n! Oh! N'you c'n hug Viddy when'ver too!"
She threw her arms into the air again, her eyes closed as she grinned gleefully. He'd never hugged her before, but she figured she'd tell him he could, just incase.
Lowering her arms, Vidya looked around the now debris-free basement, a small pout replacing her grin...though momentarily.
"Aww...we'r'all done...We shoul'call to our Mommies now..."
Her wings drooped a bit, but lifted back to normal a second afterwords. Vidya didn't want to be grounded anymore, since she was having fun...but still, the girl had absolutely no regrets about it."With my luck, I'd forget the the codes, and then I'd REALLY be in trouble. I'm thinking multiple locks. That way, if Tybalt decides he wants to play thief, there'll be more time for someone to catch him at it before he's successful." It sounded good in theory, but Inle knew that with the combined force of Tybalt and the sprockets, it was destined to fail. Still, it was nice to dream. Tybalt didn't think he would take Vidya up on her offer anytime soon--there was still that nagging voice telling him it was improper--but it was nice to know. His head tilted once more at her pout, and his large eyes flicked from her to the basement door. "Yah...don' wanna be grounded fer three weeks. But s'ok. I'll sneak out 'n come visit." "I think not, little man!" Inle called down the stairs. She had poked her head through the doorway, wary at the lack of noise coming from the basement, just in time to hear Tybalt's plan. Tybalt's feathers ruffled as he glared up at Inle. Inle merely smiled back, unphased. Vidya had been about to object to his plan, when his mother did it for her. Closing her half open mouth, Vidya turned to the stairs, waving.
"Mommie...Cap'n's Mommie...We done now!"
She couldn't pronounce 'Inle', so she used the next best thing. Having announced this, she turned back to Tybalt, holding out her hand...and that smile was once more on her lips.
"Cap'n shoul'nt sneak out!...Get in trubble and grounded fer LONGER. N' That bad."
Vidya nodded sagely again. The quicker the three weeks started, the quicker they ended, and the quicker she could come back over and play! Or maybe he'd go over to her house this time! Who knew, there was a three week hold on any of that.
Enoh just laughed again, shaking her head.
"Oh, I know that feeling...and I'm sure I'd do it too."
The shapeshifter smiled down the stairs in response to Vidya's announcement, nodding a bit as if she understood. They were just too cute...
"Alright Viddy...lets get going then, okay? Ah, and don't worry Inle...I'll set traps around the yard and house for any feathery trespassers."
She smirked in amusement."Damn skippy that's bad. I might have to lock his door from the outside and bar his windows just to make sure he doesn't try it." Inle was joking, of course (maybe), but Tybalt hardly found it funny and continued scowling at her. Almost reluctantly, he took Vidya's hand and slowly, as if to prolong the beginning of the punishment, he led her up the stairs. He muttered quietly under his breath, swearing a revenge that he knew he wouldn't go through with--he couldn't hurt his mother, after all. Inle snickered at Enoh's statement. "Hear that? Best to just take your punishment like the little man you are, sweetie." Tybalt's scowl deepened as he glared some more at Inle, but it lessened considerably as he looked back down at Vidya. "Bye, Videe," he said, his tone only a bit morose. Inside he was screaming, a very pissed off little parrot, but it just wouldn't do to let the others know that. Vidya was still all smiles when he took her hand...even though she was well aware that a three week grounding waited at the top. Once at their Mother's feet, Vidya rubbed her eyes with her free hand before waving to Tybalt.
"Bye bye Cap'n...We go 'venturin 'gain once groundin's'over!"
She nodded more to herself than anyone else this time. It was almost as if she was making herself feel better first. Having said her goodbyes, Vidya slowly let go of Tybalt's hand, and toddled over to Enoh, holding up her arms.
No Enoh. You're not lessening the punishment. Three weeks...THREE. WEEKS.
Repeating this to herself mentally was the only thing keeping Enoh from telling the children that the grounding was over. She was damning the fact she had to be parental about the situation.
With a smile, the shapeshifter scooped Vidya up and into her arms.
"Alright then...! Bye Inle, and thanks for letting us visit! I'll start setting up traps when we get home."
The shapeshifter giggled, waving towards the other Author before heading out the front door...all the while dealing with Vidya's attempt to lower the punishment days..."Aye, we will," he replied, looking up at Inle as if daring her to dispute that. Inle, however, was busy seeing their guests off. "It was no problem, feel free to drop by anytime. I'll try to keep the doors locked better, just in case." She smiled and waved at the pair as they left before turning her attention back to Tybalt, whose arms were crossed over his chest, his feet planted apart. She knew that these next three weeks would be a little slice of hell. In a move unexpected by Inle, he uncrossed his arms and held them out to Inle. Bewildered, she picked him up. "What's up, kiddo?" she asked, genuniely curious. "Nothin'. Wanted up," he replied shortly, as if her concession to carry him did little to dispel his anger towards her. For once, he had no ulterior motives; his feet merely hurt from breaking the floor. Dimly, he wondered just how he was able to accomplish that. He wasn't the only one, but Inle didn't bother voicing the question. It wasn't as if Tybalt, who was so young, had any idea just HOW he did what he did, right? Instead, Inle pondered just how she was going to keep her little pirate occupied for the next three weeks. More importantly, she wondered if she had insurance.

4/28/05 - Narrative
Tybalt's feet continued to ache long after his guests were gone, and well into the night. He flexed his talons as he lay in bed, the mild pain leaving him teetering on the brink between sleep and wakefulness. Finally, drowsiness outweighed discomfort, and he managed to fall asleep...and into the realm of dreams.
------------------------------
Tybalt was older in his dream, adrift on a murky sea in a familiar ship. He stood at the helm of his ship--and somehow, he knew it WAS his ship--and watched the sun set fire to the sea. It had been a long day, an average day, a day full of blessed relaxation after weeks of stress and pain. The set of Tybalt's features showed that he was clearly deep in thought.
He and his crew's last raid had not gone well. Tybalt had lost men, and the cost to hire new crewmen had heavily outweighed the plunder gained. He knew his men were upset and confused; their captain wasn't acting himself, as if he had something on his mind. They were right on that account, if nothing else.
In Tybalt's dream, he was uncomfortable in his body, and he wasn't quite sure why. It was foreign to him, and he lacked the grace and agility he knew he once had. There were whispers of him growing old, growing soft, and they angered him.
One whisper hit his ear directly, a comment made from one crewman to another as they passed a captain who appeared not to be paying attention, who had seemed to be oblivious to his surroundings for weeks now.
"'E's no longer a man now, 'e's a monster, 'n not fit t'lead."
Tybalt had been paying attention, and his thoughtful eyes turned hard and cold. Almost without thinking, he whirled on unfamiliar feet, his hand balled into a fist. It caught the passing man on the jaw, and he stumbled back, tripping over a length of rope and falling to his back. The man looked up at him, startled, blood dripping from his nose and mouth. He lay as he fell, arms and legs akimbo, eyes widening as Tybalt walked towards him almost lazily. He swallowed visibly as Tybalt stopped at his side, the captain peering down at him almost casually, although his body was tense with contained rage.
"A monster, am I?" he asked slowly, not looking up as his men stopped what they were doing and peered at them, distracted from their tasks. Tybalt's wings were tucked tightly to his back, the smoothness of his feathers not belying the rage that was slowly building within him.
"N-n-no, Cap'n!" the man on the ground stammered, finally moving in an effort to scramble backwards. It proved useless, however, as Tybalt brought a taloned foot down on the man's chest, effectively pinning him to the spot. "C-Cap'n, please, I didn'--"
"SHUT UP!" Tybalt roared, his talons tightening around the man's upper torso, effectively stifling his protests. He looked up at his crew, eyes full of righteous fury, and not a one of them met them with their own; each looked away as Tybalt's gaze fell upon them, not willing, even now, to challenge their captain. Tybalt sneered, his talons tightening upon the man's chest, not appearing to care as the crewman wheezed at the pressure.
"A monster I may be," Tybalt started lowly, "but I AM yer Captain, an' I'll remain as such until one of you bloody maggots sees fit to say otherwise!" His tone had risen in volume and intensity; even in this form his men feared him, and this soothed his rage a bit. His claws had tightened further upon the man's chest, and rivulets of blood ran around his talons where they had punctured flesh. The captive man looked up at him, fear in his eyes. Tybalt ignored his obvious pain.
"If there be a single man aboard this ship who thinks 'e's got it in 'im t' dispose of me, let him speak now!" His men wisely kept their gazes upon the deck, and all was quiet save for the sound of the sea...and the groan of a man's ribcage being squeezed far too tightly.
"Tha's what I thought," Tybalt growled.
There was a loud, wet crunch, a spray of blood, and the man's chest was destroyed, Tybalt's talons having squeezed it into oblivion. The men looked up as one, horrified at the sight. The middle of the man's torso was gone, leaving him in two pieces. Tybalt's claws were still clenched, shards of bone and strips of flesh held securely within them, and his foot was dyed red with blood. Slowly, his foot relaxed, and he placed it on the deck beside the man's body. He bent to lift the corpse's head by the hair, the neck, shoulders and arms still intact and attached. This grisly talisman he showed to the crew, taking a sick enjoyment in watching many of them cross themselves. They looked at him with eyes full of fear.
"Let this be a warning to ye all. Any man who dares t' make light of my...condition, a passing mutter, a whispered word, an' they'll end up just the same." A moment of utter silence passed. "IS THAT CLEAR?!"
"Aye, Cap'n!" the crew shouted as one, fear of their captain spurring them to respond.
"Good," Tybalt growled, dropping the corpse. It hit the deck with a wet thud, which went unnoticed by Tybalt as he turned to watch the sun set once more.
If he could not hold their loyalty with respect, he would do it with fear.
------------------------------------------
Back in the real world, Tybalt jerked into wakefulness. Although he knew he should be worried about his gruesome dream, he found himself slightly irritated, as if he shared his dream-self's rage. He yawned and stretched, slowly drifting back to sleep.
Tybalt was too tired to notice that his feet no longer hurt.

4/30/05 - RP Recap
Dragonfly had taken Lance home for awhile, and as clingy as the boy had been earlier that day, it didn't last. He rummaged through Dragonfly's house, sword forward, saying nothing for the time being, and just getting acustomed to his new home. He was an adventuror, even Dragonfly could see that. She had watched him carefully, taking in all of the small boy's actions, before deciding to take him back to the Stationary store, and see how he interacted with other Tale's.
Lance's hand clutched Dragonfly's as he padded down the street next to Dragonfly. His red eyes took everything around him in, and a smile curled upon his lips. He slipped his hand away from Dragonfly's, and dashed forward, his tail swishing behind him. He knew where they were going, and he would lead the way.
He swung the door to the Stationary store open, sword raised before him, his red eyes gazing around the room, before he strutted into the room, and turned to await Dragonfly.
Dragonfly's eyes widenned in surprise as the boy dashed off, and she followed close in step after him, not wanting the boy to get hurt, or lost. He had only arrived in the world a short while ago, and she was shocked at his tendancies already. Inle and Tybalt had been alone in the shop for quite some time, the former sitting in the chair she had claimed as her own reading a book while the latter was literally trying to climb the walls in an effort to reach the large, shiny pens that sat atop a high shelf. Tybalt had succeeded only in placing small holes in the wall as he attempted to use his claws to climb upwards, but to no avail; he wound up falling on his feathered behind every time. Inle had long since given up trying to get him to stop for fear that Huni would be upset at the holes, but Tybalt had long since stopped listening to anything Inle was saying.
The pirate's attention was diverted, however, as the door to the shop opened and people came in. He paused in his upward ascent to and immediately scowled at the sight of the draconic boy's wooden sword. He didn't have a sword, not even a wooden one, and the knowledge that other people did upset him to no end. His sapphire eyes remained narrowed as he visually assessed this sword-haver.
Inle glanced at the new arrivals, nodding a tacit hello to them both before returning to her book; while the sight of a dragon boy wielding a wooden sword might have been disturbing to some people, Inle had long grown accustomed to such odd sights. Lance tilted his head as he gazed around at the curious new people. The parrot boy caught his attention the most, and his tail twisted a bit behind him.
"Hello," he said politely, dropping his sword, and bowing to both, "My name is Lance,"
Where Lance had learned to speak so fluently was beyond Dragonfly, and yet she could still hear the soft craw of his dragonic side in his almost raspy voice.
She looked over to Inle, and then to Tybalt, before looking back to Inle and smiling a bit.
"Hello Inle," she greeted, knowing the other woman from the island of Cetalu, and though they had only met breifly, she still remembered the other, "How are you?"
Vidya glared at the doorway to the study as she passed it, still a little weary of the place after it had scared her a few days ago, when she was playing Hide and Seek with Jiro. She was headed over towards one of the far shelves, partly because she had seen some stationary that was rather shiney, but mainly because she had spotted Tybalt there when she had entered the shop with Teivel. Giggling, the girl waved happily at her captain.
"Hey-lo Cap'n! Whattcha doin'?"
Her wings twitched a bit as the door opened, the blue girl turning around in an attempt to see the door...only to have a stupid table block her view. Peering around it, Vidya blinked curiously at the boy who entered, as well as the lady who came in behind him. Her face brightened, running over to the door, practically tackling Dragonfly's legs in greeting.
"Dee! Hullo! Oooh...Pretty."
Still clutching Dragonfly's leg, Vidya finally focused her full attention on the boy who looked like one of those big fire-breathing creatures she'd read about. Studying him as was her custom, she smiled brightly once she had reached her conclusion.
"Hullo! M'Viddy...an'yer green...pretty green! And wings...Viddy has wings too!"
She removed one of her hands from Dragonfly's leg to point to the wings on her head.
Inle's eyes moved once more from her book as she regarded the woman who addressed her with a questioning gaze. Crap, was she supposed to know this woman? She wasn't old enough to start losing her memory...or was she? "Uh...hi," she said, desperately trying to recall the woman's name. "I'm alright, you?"
Tybalt remained in his position a few feet above the floor, staring at the boy for a long, silent moment. "I'm Cap'n Tybalt," he said finally, a haughty, superior tone in his voice. His gaze was once more diverted at the appearance of his first mate, and his feathers smoothed. "'Hoy, Videe. There's shinies up there, 'n I'ma get 'em."
Dragonfly smiled to the small child that was gripping her leg, and couldn't help but grin proudly of her new son. She allowed Lance to introduce himself to the small girl though, and nodded her approval to signify that he should.
Lance looked over at Vidya, tilting his head a bit, his ear twitching a little, before he walked back over to Vidya and Dragonfly. He bowed before Vidya, laying his sword by his side, and gently taking Vidya's hand into his own. He didn't know where his actions were coming from, or why he was doing it. He just felt that it was what he was supposed to do.
"Hello," he greeted, on one knee before the girl, still holding her hand, and smiling softly, "I am pleased to meet you... I'm Lance,"
Green? Well. He was green, but, she was blue!
"Pretty blue," he pointed out with a smile, before stepping back, and looking back to Tybalt.
"Captain?" he repeated, blinking a bit, his red eyes focussing on Tybalt, "M'Lance..."
He was put off by the other's haughty, full of himself attitude, and it showed in his stance. His sword was clutched tightly beside him, raised slightly, and his wings flapped with a huff, before folding across his back.
Dragonfly blinked at Inle's seemingly awkward actions, but said nothing to confront it.
"That's good..." she replied, tilting her head and smiling, "I'm doing quite well. How is Marli?"
The feathers that had smoothed not a moment before ruffled once more, causing Tybalt to look like a large, angry pillow. How DARE this new guy lay a hand on HIS first mate? This would have to be rectified, and fast! He hopped down from his position on the wall, stalking over to the tiny Tales before placing himself to the side and just in front of Vidya, a wing extended as if to physically separate her and this interloper. "Aye, Cap'n," he nearly growled. "'N Videe's my firs' mate," he finished, placing a mild emphasis on "my."
Marli? Who the hell was...oh. OH. Well, that explained a lot. Inle and her shadow-self didn't speak nearly as often as they should, and she made a mental note to correct that, and soon. "She's uh...she's alright, I guess. How's...your little critter?" she said lamely.
"Shinies? Viddy saw tha shinies too! But then me see you, and then 'reen boy...so me say Hi instead!"
Vidya grinned, rather proud of herself for being so observant and polite all at the same time. Vidya was about to ask why he didn't just fly all the way up there, since he DID have working wings and all...but her question died on her lips as Lance took her hand. Blinking her white eyes, she focused both of them down on the green boy. She closed her right eye, the one with the pupil, and stared at him with her pupilless one for a moment, before opening both of them again and giggling.
"Lance. Okay. Hiya Lance! So weird."
Of course, she was referring to what he was doing right now.
The girl then squeaked as Tybalt suddenly appeared infront of her, causing Vidya to shift herself onto the balls of her sandaled feet to see over his wings. Her expression was thoroughly curious; what was so wrong with what Lance had done? She hugged other people all the time...!
Dragonfly raised an eyebrow at Inle, unable to keep herself from doing so, and feeling a bit awkward.
"Erm... Yeah. Iniko. She's. She's doing well..."
Haha. This was weird.
He was... Weird? He stepped back at the comment, feeling suddenly awkward, before Tybalt intruded between them, and he couldn't help but narrow his eyes again.
His first mate? You couldn't own a person. They had free will. Everyone had it. Wait. Shiney?
He turned his head towards where Tybalt had been climbing, and to where Vidya had mentioned seeing something shiney. The boy was obviously distracted for several moments as his gaze focused on the shiney stationary.
He turned his gaze back to Tybalt, and the grip on his sword tightened. He could already tell that he didn't like the other's attitude. Not one bit.
Another day, another visit to the Store. This was getting annoying, he felt like a toy sitting on a shelf in a toy store. Oh let's play with this one! However, today he was with akiya, so he kept his grumbling down to mental images of death by fire and other lovely things like that. When the tall Angel pushed open the door, he took quick note of who was there. The featherduster, Viddy and some green.. dragon type. Ah, so his dream hadn't been faked. The Tome had given out another Tale. Least this one looks interesting.. and smells interesting. Such a bother.
Once inside, Akiya murmured soft words into his ear and stroked his hair. The Angel had been keeping them up later to have talks about thing. Jiro still didn't like people.. especially not many of the other Tales... but he wouldn't be so easily pushed to violence. Or, well, he promised he would try. Which had to be better than nothing, right? Once on the ground, he rubbed the back of his neck, btu didn't make a go towards the group. Instead, he clung to Akiya's robe in one hand, his black glowing dragon plush in the other.
"Good afternoon." He didn't know many of the other Authors so he just kept the greeting rather simple as he went to sit in his normal spot.
She may have hugged other people all the time, but it was quite a different matter when this...this boy that Tybalt already didn't like was placing his hands on her. It was a matter of protection, as Tybalt didn't trust this boy; at least, that was his reasoning for it. "Aye, Videe, s'weird," he readily agreed. He noticed where the dragon's gaze wandered and smirked. Those shinies would be his and Vidya's, if he had anything to say about it.
Inle mentally sweatdropped. This wasn't as going as well as she would've hoped, not that she knew she would've hoped it up until a moment ago. "That's good to hear!" she blurted out, clearly at a loss.
Vidya's wings twitched again as she heard the door open once more. It seemed that her wings, the laziest part about her, where finally starting to become active like the rest of her. Enoh didn't mind at all though...She just wanted to squeal whenever Vidya's wings twitched...that was just too cute! But since Enoh wasn't here, there was no threat of that happening. Instead poor Teivel had to suffer through this, and he did so by sitting by the fire and ignoring everyone around him.
The tale, briefly ignoring Tybalt and Lance, waved her arms over her head to get the attention of Jiro. Oh, it was so nice to see him again! The girl laughed happily, her eyes closing in glee.
"Jiro! Hiya! S'nice ta see you again! Oh, and Hullo! Wow, you tall."
It was probably a good thing Vidya was awesome at keeping secrets. She had opened her eyes to look up at the man Jiro was clinging to, finding him to be an awful lot taller than the adults she was used too.
Hearing Tybalt talk, Vidya's eyes opened, and focused on him curiously. Somehow, she figured his agreement had a little bit of a different tone than hers did...and of course, she felt the need to clear this up! Vidya didn't want to be misunderstood, and then disliked...that would be very bad. She smiled at Lance over Tybalt's wing.
"But weirds'good!"
Lance was not weird! He glared at Tybalt, his lip curling a bit, his grip on his sword tightening.
"Your weird too," he said, to Tybalt, and not Vidya.
He glanced towards the shiney stationary once more, and could already sense challange arising.
He was momentarily distracted by Jiro's entrance, and nodded to the new arrival, but was more intent on focusing on Tybalt. The parrot boy he already highly disliked. He blinked a bit at Vidya, tilting his head curiously. Weird... Good? Maybe...
Dragonfly too, was beginning to feel the awkwardness of the situation more prominently than before, and she offered a lopsided, nervous grin.
"Well," she chirped, glancing to Inle's book, and then back to her face, "I'll leave you to your book then. Eeh heeh..."
She looked around for something to distract herself with, and not seem rude. She spotted Akiya, and heard his greeting, and thus, offered her own.
"Hello," she said politely.
Hearing someone call his name, he looked over to see Viddy was waving her arms trying to get his attention. Oh, Viddy. He waved his hand back at her, smiling faintly. Good thing to see she didn't make a huge production over him. Seeing her look at Akiya, he smirked. "That's my Father... and it's good to see you again, Viddy. And how are you?"
Akiya's brow shifted at how he interacted with Viddy and it made him rather happy to see that he was rather polite to the Tale. Maybe he would change his opinion on girls....
.....
..... highly doubted it though.
EDIT: Noticing Dragonfly respond to his greeting, he smiled. "It feels a bit.. tense in here. Are things not going well?"
Tybalt glanced over his shoulder at the sound of the door opening yet again and gazed levelly at Jiro for a moment. He still didn't know how he felt about the boy, having never interacted with him, but that would have to wait until later; there were bigger issues at hand here. He turned his attention back to his first mate and the loathsome creature in front of him. "Weird's good...sometimes," he said in response to both Vidya and Lance. Tybalt crossed his arms over his chest, his taloned feet planted sturdily on the floor, his stance showing his utter confidence.
"Sorry," Inle mumbled, trailing off, nodding at the new arrivals before turning back to her book.
Vidya looked between Lance and Tybalt, that ever-curious expression on her face. She didn't really understand what was going on, but she assumed it was a boy thing, and decided to stay out of it. She removed herself from that situation and wandered over to Jiro, humming the entire way over.
The tale looked up at Akiya, blinking her white eyes.
"Hallo Jiro's Daddie! Wow, you almost's'tall as Tei!"
Or maybe taller, she figured. Vidya pointed over the the solitary Reindeer tahnee that sat by the fire, promptly ignoring her mention of him. He was only here to make sure she didn't hurt herself, and conversing with others wasn't part of his duty. Besides, he didn't want to be here in the first place, but once Enoh had set her foot down, nobody, not even Teivel, could defy her.
Giggling a bit, Vidya turned back to Jiro, smiling as happily as ever.
"M'real good! How be you?...me left Kali at home!"
She stated that fact proudly, as if it had any importance at all. Well, it actually did.
Oh dear. She'd offended Inle. Or upset her, or something.
"Nonono!" she said, pulling her hands up, "Don't apologize... Eeh... heh... There's nothing to apologize for.."
She smiled meekly, and then left Inle to her book. She looked to Akiya, and grinned sheepishly, looking towards the children.
"Erm. A little tense? Eh..."
She didn't know what to say, other than that.
Lance easily matched the other's stance, his sword clutched tightly in his hand, his stance proud, and noble as he glared at the other. He would show no weakness in front of this one, he'd be damned if he did.
Blinking at Viddy, he couldn't help his smile as he pet her on the head. "Well unless Tei is almost eight feet, then it's safe to say I'm taller than him." She was very sweet and he couldn't help liking the girl. Maybe Jiro would at least like her.. cause he knew well what he thought about Aido..
He nodded when he saw that she didn't have her plushie with her. "Ah I see... I brought one of mine... I'm trying to figure out what to do with the other ones. Father bought me too many and I don't want them all.." His lips pursed gently as he nodded to himself. "Maybe I can give one to you? Or something?"
It wasn't often that he offered to give anyone -anything- so this was a big thing for him. He only did that if he considered you someone he was on friendly terms with. "Did he shift again and be mean to you?"
Tybalt's grin was more a baring of teeth than anything else. His wings folded to his back as Vidya took her leave, and he stared at Lance for a moment, as if assessing him. His gaze eventually flicked towards the shiny stationary; his smirk turned decidedly mean. With a bit of a swagger, he went back to his space on the wall and began once more the slow climb upwards, his talons creating more holes in the wall as they held his weight up.
Inle's glance was torn once more from her book, and she finally put it pages-down in her lap. "Sorry for being sorry, then?" At the mention of the "tense" situation, she glanced at her feathered son and rolled her eyes. "Yeah. That's just Tybalt being Tybalt."
Vidya hadn't the faintest idea why feet had anything to do with how tall someone was. Giving him a strange look, Vidya looked down at her own sandaled feet, wiggling her toes a bit before giving him the benefit of the doubt. She nodded, her tone naturally sweet.
"Well, Tei's vurry tall! But okay, you taller."
Her gaze then turned towards Jiro, blinking at him for a moment before clapping happily, throwing her arms around him in a hug.
"Oh! Viddy'd like that lots! Thank you! I...Oh, whoops. Sorry!"
She giggled, removing her arms from around him once she realized she might have done something wrong. Jiro seemed like the type of person you should only hug when you're alone, and she'd almost forgotten that! Lucky save on her part. Shift again? Oh...he was talking about Kalani again. Vidya frowned and nodded.
"Yes. Kali's'mean still...so me left him in my bedroom."
Hearing taloned feet clicking, Vidya looked over her shoulder just in time to see Tybalt head back to the shiney stationary. She pouted a bit...she wanted to go too! But there was no way she could get up there by herself, and she figured it'd be mean to suddenly leave Jiro. Sooo...she did the next best thing; cheer him on from where she was! Oh, and guide him too. She figured he might not be able to see too well since he was against the wall, and the shinies were on a shelf.
"Yay Cap'n! C'n you see? Viddy can tell when you get close..!"
Lance's eyes narrowed further as he watched the other swagger towards the wall, and the sense of challange rose once more in his chest. His wings unfolded from his back, taking a testing flap, and he was surprised at the ease of which the seemingly small apendages lifted him. Ah. But it wouldn't be fair to fly. He tucked his wings back, and 'sheathed' his wooden sword into the shirt upon his back, folding his wings over it to keep the wooden weapon held steady. He went to the other side of the wall, still near the stationary, and looked to Tybalt, challange written across his features. He didn't want to ruin the wall though, and thus took a moment to concider a way up without causing too much damage. He looked to the shelves, and wondered if it would hold his weight, before shrugging a bit, his tall frame reaching up to grip the first shelf, and pull himself up, and begin the climb.
Dragonfly didn't really know what to do with herself, and so she sat herself down in the place she had been frequenting, and sighing softly.
Tybalt tossed a grin to his first mate before returning to his task. Now that he had gotten the hang of pushing his claws through the wall, rather than just searching for toeholds, his progression was much easier. He already had a more-than-healthy head start on the dragon, and not one to grow lax in the face of sure victory, only increased his pace.
He saw how Viddy was looking at her feet and he gently shook his head. "Your height isn't measured by your feet... you'll get it later.. if I had the right book, I'd try to explain it to you..." When she hugged him, he patted her briefly on the back. However, she seemed to remember and she backed away. "Then I'll bring you over one sometime soon then, neh? Maybe tomorrow, if Father remembers, anyway."
Noticing how something seemed to be going down with Tybalt and the newbie, he felt himself filled with a grim sort of pleasure. Aww did they not like each other? Odd how the males seemed to be having issues with each other. Was this a pattern thing? "Wanna sit next to me, Viddy?"
Dragonfly sweatdropped further as she watched the going on's between Lance and Tybalt, and shook her head softly.
Lance was determined to catch up to the other, and he took leaps to climb higher. He was gaining on Tybalt, but he felt it wasn't fast enough. He pushed every muscle in his body to move faster, the competetive spirit in him driving him onward. He was just a handhold away from Tybalt's foot. Then he was at the other's waist, and finally, he hauled himself up so that he was next to the parrot child.
He turned his head for a moment, locking his crimson gaze with the other, before continuing on. It would be a race to the bitter end, it seemed.
"Me thought not...'sounded weird."
Vidya wrinkled up her nose. She still didn't get it, but since Jiro said it wasn't true, she had no choice but to believe him. Besides, he knew things like this. She smiled at him, before lifting her gaze to watch Tybalt's progress. He was going in the right direction so far!
"Okay! That be very nice, thank you! Should me get the...uhm...direcshions...to my n'Mommie's house? Oooh...Hiya Aii!"
She wrinkled up her nose a bit. She knew that word, and yet she forgot how to pronounce it. Oh well. She had heard the door open, and of course gave Aido a rather large and fast wave in greeting, before her attention was drawn back to Jiro. Vidya blinked at his question, and then nodded.
"Okay, sure! But Viddy needs t'be able to see tha Cap'n, okay? Oh...!"
Speaking of which...Vidya had lifted her gaze to see that Tybalt was getting very close to the shiny stationary...and of course that meant she had to tell him where it was! She cupped her blue hands at the sides of her mouth, calling over to him.
"Cap'n! Tha trezure's Anodder shelf up!"
Lance's proximity would prove to be his downfall, as Tybalt pulled a move any pirate would have been proud of. Two more quick steps upward brought Tybalt's feet within easy reach of his opponent, and he didn't hesitate to take advantage of this by shifting his weight to the side, then planting his feet upon Lance's head and shoulder. Using the dragon as a launchpad, he jumped the remaining few inches to the shelf, bellyflopping atop it before wiggling into a more secure position. The shelf shook beneath his weight and movement but held, and Tybalt crawled along it until he reached the prized stationary. He shifted into a sitting position, his legs dangling over the edge of the shelf, and held the paper in his lap. His grin was not a little victorious and smug.
Inle's jaw dropped. She wasn't shocked that Tybalt literally walked all over Lance, but she was a bit surprised that he had managed to get so high in the first place. Chagrined, she turned towards Chibi. "Uh...sorry. He's kind of a jerk."
Lance's red eyes widened in realization as he watched the other near him, and though he struggled to get further to the side, he didn't have enough room. He felt the pirate's claws dig into his shoulder, and he let out a cry as the other leapt forward. His hand came lose from it's hold as he reached up to grasp the other's foot as he tried to launch away from him, but this lead to no avail. Instead Lance lost his footing, due to Tybalt's weight, and the balance he had sacrificed by reaching a hand up. He plumetted backwards towards the floor, and hardly had any time at all to turn himself over, and spread his wings.
He landed hard on the floor, and let out a cry of pain as he did so, his eyes narrowed into pained slits as he gasped for the air that had been sucked from him during the fall.
"Boy's will be boy's," she murmered in reply to Inle, and shrugged softly.
She blinked in surprise as Lance began to lose his grip, and watched in horror as he struggled to right himself in the air, though too late, and watched as he hit the floor.
She was on her feet in a flash, making her way over to the collapsed dragon boy, fearful for his safety.
"Lance! Lance are you alright? Is anything broken?"
She was talking quickly, obviously acting like a panicked mother.
Tybalt waved the paper in the air towards Vidya, a sign that their teamwork had prevailed yet again. "We wins! Th' treasure's ours!" Something moved out of the corner of his eye, and he looked towards it, watching passively as Lance plummetted. While Tybalt wasn't normally a cruel child, he found himself somewhat pleased that his foe got his just desserts; that's what happened when one decided to cross Captain Tybalt, in his mind.
Inle, however, was not so unmoved by the boy's fall. She leapt from the chair, eyes wide, the sound of her book falling to the floor deafened by the sound of a heavier object making the same contact. She shot a deadly gaze towards Tybalt, who was busy reveling in his foe's demise, before moving tentatively towards Chibi and Lance. "s**t, I'm sorry...is he ok?" Without waiting for an answer, she looked up at Tybalt, who was now in her line of sight. "That was ******** up, Tybalt. I should leave you up there for that." Tybalt merely shrugged, unphased by his mother's threat and language.
Lance sat up shakily, sucking in steady breaths as he began to get it back, before lifting his head, and glaring sharply at Tybalt. Oh that b*****d would pay. Lance could already tell that this was the beginning of a long rivalry between the two.
"Y'won because... Y'cheated," he rasped through grated teeth, pulling his wooden sword from his back, and using it to pull himself back onto his fit, before brandishing the weapon towards the Tale, "Y'd never win... in a fair fight..."
Dragonfly shook her head towards Inle, and smiled weakly.
"No-- It's not your fault-- Geeze-- Wholly crap--" she didn't know what to do with herself, and fussed over Lance, who swatted at her for it. He wouldn't be seen as a mother's boy. He didn't want to be fawned over before his obvious enemy.
"I'm fine," he said through gritted teeth, giving his wings a flap to see that they were still in working order, and then checking to see that everything else was fine, too.
Vidya had been about to cheer in victory, and that cheer died on her lips as well, replaced by a horrified expression and the heavy gasping noise she made as Lance fell. Her white eyes had widened considerably, and her hands pressed against her cheeks as she flinched upon hearing the new tale hit the ground. She spun her head to the side to give Jiro an almost apologetic look before she scampered over to Lance, peering down at him worriedly.
She didn't know what to do in this situation...so she winged it.
"Lance...! ...Cap'n, That was mean...!"
She had moved her attention from Lance up to her Captain, giving him a surprisingly disappointed and somewhat stern look.
"'S'why I don' fight fair," he retorted cheekily, gripping the paper tightly as he was grabbed off the shelf, not stumbling as he was placed upon the floor. He looked haughtily towards the wounded dragon before turning towards his first mate. "Videe, we's PIRATES. Sometimes we gottsa do mean things fer treasure, see?" He waved the shiny paper in front of her face, as if to prove his point.
Inle scowled at him before turning back to Chibi and Lance, crouching to the latter's eye level. "I'm sorry, sweetie, he's really not that bad...are you alright?"
Lance looked to Vidya, a cold glare in his eyes, though it was not towards her. He turned back towards Tybalt, and brandished his sword before him, challanging the other.
"Where's your honor...?" Lance demanded, his tail swishing angrily behind him, "Your scum,"
He spat at the other's feet, to signify what he meant. He almost completely ignored Inle, merely casting her a short glance, before his attention focused back on Tybalt.
Vidya couldn't respond to that. Instead, she gave an objective whine in response, and resorted to playing with the small lock of braided hair that came over her shoulder from behind her right ear, the one with a red feather dangling from the bead-like tie. Playing with this braid and Mrinliel's feather was her newly formed nervous, bored, or upset habit. But she needed to respond, if only to make herself feel better about it. So, to remedy this need, she muttered her words with a pout.
"But s'still mean..."
Her white eyes widened again as Lance had decided to start another fight. After a few seconds, her eyes then narrowed stubbornly, her hands letting go of her small braid to form small fists at her sides, her elbows bent. The currently brave little girl stepped in between the two boys.
"NO FIGHT'N!"
She looked between the two, a stubborn look on her face, and her feet planted. She was deadset on stopping anything between them right now.
Tybalt was about to respond with some wiseass retort or another when Vidya, his beloved and loyal first mate, gave HIM an order. If it had been anyone else, he probably would have smacked them for daring to do such a thing, but...this was VIDYA. The one person who had been there for him through thick and thin; the one person he could trust. So he did what he never thought he'd do: he followed. "Aye, Videe," he said, a mixture of awe and affection in his voice.
A growl issued from his throat, but he did as the young blue girl had asked. He dropped his sword to his side, continuing to shoot Tybalt a harsh glare.
"Fine," he snapped, anger still coursing through his form.
But Vidya, even though he hardly knew her, she was a maiden, and something deep within him demanded that he keep from harming her. He'd do as she asked, for now at least.
"Maybe we should go," Dragonfly murmered, leaning down to whisper this in Lance's ear.
Lance nodded, and turned on his heal, not even saying any goodbyes to anyone, after all, he felt no reason to.
Dragonfly smiled weakly, and ruffled up Vidya's hair, issuing a soft adieu to the child, before waving her regards to Inle and Akiya, and making her way out.
Vidya's stubborn expression faltered for a moment, when Tybalt decided to do as she had asked. Turning her head, she gave him a thanking, and suddenly happy smile before turning to look over at Lance. One down, one to go. Vidya winced as Lance snapped his response, but she was still eternally grateful that they hadn't just moved away from her.
Oh, she looked like she was about to hit the ground with relief. It had taken so much to stand inbetween the two, since one was her Captain and the other had hell in his eyes...and now that the threat was over, she just wanted to fall to the ground and stay there.
Instead, she stayed standing, futher letting them know she was serious by speaking one more time.
"Good. No fight'n...N'...Bye Lance."
Vidya smiled up at Dragonfly, patting down her hair shortly after it was ruffled. Once they were out the door, Vidya heaved a thankful sigh and plunked herself down on the floor.
Geez, she wanted to nap now.
Well well that had been rather interesting. Made him glad he just sat back and didn't interfere in something not of his making. Seemed the little pirate didn't know the meaning of playing fair. That made him smirk. Ah, gotta love fights. But it all ended due to Viddy. Brave little Viddy. In the back of his head, he had to admit that it was rather cute that she ws doing something like that. But the fight was averted, thanks to her.
Akiya waved to Chibi when she headed out with Lance, a brow shifted. Tales seemed to have some inner issues with each other. That was rather sad and he lifted up Jiro and placed him into his lap. He hoped things would get better....
Tybalt smirked levelly at Lance until the younger Tale was out of the shop before looking once more at Vidya, chuckling at her visible signs of relief. Ignoring Inle's obviously angry look, he sat himself beside her, waving the shiny paper once more. "We still gots th' treasure," he said, his tone only a trifle smug.
Vidya looked over at Tybalt as he sat down beside her, then towards the paper he held. Well, there was no way she could deny giving him that...she just wished he hadn't been so ruthless about it! But at least nobody got really hurt...after all, Lance was well enough to challenge Tybalt after his fall. With that in mind, Vidya smiled.
"Yep, we gots'it."
She then squeaked in surprise as the top of her head was suddenly poked. Vidya leaned her head backwards to look up at the one responsible for that...and was met by the stoic golden gaze of Teivel, who had obviously had enough of this place. He wasn't much moved by Vidya's bold interference, but he did give her props for being able to do it.
"Vidya, say your goodbyes...we're going home."
"Awww Teeeeei...Okay..."
Though she whined her objection, she looked back down at Tybalt and gave him a hug, still thoroughly thankful he decided to not fight. Finished with offering her goodbyes to her Captain first, Vidya then stood up and toddled over to Jiro, unable to hug him from where he was sitting, but that never stopped her from waving.
"Okay...Bye bye Cap'n, Bye bye Jiro!"
She waved with her free hand as the other weasled its way into Teivel's, the stag giving nothing more than a look of objection before he guided her out of the stationary shop, heading back home.
Tybalt tentatively returned Vidya's hug--he was still unused to the whole touching thing--and waved as she departed. He didn't seem surprised as Inle scooped him up, and he held the night's spoils securely. "We're out of here too, kiddo...and YOU are in some serious trouble." Tybalt merely rolled his eyes. When was he NOT in trouble? Inle nodded towards the unfamiliar pair before she and her bundle of terror were out the door.

4/30/05 - Narrative
Tybalt awoke one morning to a tinny, high-pitched sound. It seemed the giggles and words of tiny metallic beings had permeated his private space...and they were gonna pay for waking him up. Blearily, Tybalt rubbed his tired eyes and rolled out of bed, only to see the group of offending sprockets hovering over his hoard. Angrily, he stomped towards them, waving his arms as if to smack them out of the air.
"Piss off, spockers!" he yelled angrily. The hoard whooped and swirled around him and his treasure for a moment before tactically retreating out the door. Tybalt watched them go with an irritated noise; this wasn't the first time this had happened. He really needed a better place to stow his loot, but where? It had to be somewhere no one but himself would be able to find it, somewhere no one else would think to look.
The pondering pirate spent that morning searching the house for potential hiding spaces, only to come up short. There was someone or something everywhere he looked, and he knew that it would only be a matter of time before someone stumbled upon it. The house was no good, it seemed, and he had no choice but to venture out of it.
Tybalt slipped outside the backdoor--Inle had been watching him more closely than ever since the basement incident--and began searching for viable spots. The bushes were no good, as anything hidden in them would be hard to get to later; he really didn't want to have to crawl through the prickly leaves and twigs just to get at his stash. Burying it somewhere in the open was less than good, as a raised spot in an otherwise flat yard just screamed "BURIED TREASURE LIES HERE!" Tybalt was quickly running out of options, and was about to make his way back home when he saw it: the perfect hiding space! It lie beneath the large roots of an old tree, a gap between them and the earth. It was fairly large--he could fit in it if he really tried--and out of the way. He would be able to hide his booty in there, then cover it with loose dirt. The tree was easy to find, as well: it stood alone some distance from the house, and he was fairly certain no one would think to look there. His decision made, he went back to his room, a plan in mind.
An hour later found him back at the tree, dragging an old, poorly made treasure chest with him. It was large enough that it would hold his ever-growing collection of shinies, but still small enough that it would fit comfortably in the ground beneath the tree. All of the things he held dear were in there, save the bracelet he had received from Khia on Easter and the raven's claw pendant around his neck, neither of which left his person. He had found the chest in a corner in Inle's room; he almost hoped she wouldn't miss it, not like it mattered anyway. Tybalt spent quite some time digging the hole deeper, bringing the dirt out into the open rather than just pushing it to the side. Once he was content with the hole's depth, he shoved the chest in there before hiding it behind the dirt. He eyed his handiwork proudly, brushing dirt onto his pants. Take THAT, spockers, he thought to himself as he walked back towards the house, his spirits soaring.

4/18/05 - Narrative, Crossposted here. The last chilly breaths of winter had given way to the fresh air of spring, true spring; it was neither too hot nor too cold, and the sun was shining on the freshly-blooming foliage. All in all, it was too good of a day to waste on staying inside, so Inle had taken Ciaran and Tybalt to a local park. Although she herself was no fan of fresh air and sunshine, there was no reason to deprive her children of such necessary things, which is why she was sitting on a park bench beneath the shade of a tree while the young children played. Although Inle knew her children would safe--she could, in fact, see them move from the corner of her eye--she would occasionally look up to watch them, enjoying the way they seemed content to play together. It was a relief, to her, to see them getting along so well. With a content smile, she went back to her book. When she next looked up, she found the pair firmly encamped in a large sandbox, Ciaran setting up mounds of sand while Tybalt dug through it, looking for treasure like the pirate that he was. Normally, this was not a scene that would invoke concern within Inle; what made her worry was the person--was that a person? A person with hooves and horns?--sitting on the edge of the sandbox. The person--who looked to be male, if it was indeed a person--appeared to be talking to the two young children, and occassionally he would laugh animatedly at something they said. Inle watched them for awhile, her maternal instincts not yet kicking in; the scene looked innocent enough. Her worry abated completely as Tybalt looked up and waved her over. With an indulgent grin, she bookmarked her page and walked towards the trio. "Mama, th' man says there's treasure inna sandbox," Tybalt explained, his plumage covered with sand both wet and dry. "I don't believe him," Ciaran piped up, looking up from his tiny sand dunes to smile serenely up at her. "And you're not supposed to talk to strangers." Tybalt pulled a face at his brother, causing Inle to laugh as she crouched down at the box's edge. "That's very true, Ciaran." "Well, then, let me be a stranger no longer. My name is Jaden." The satyr--now that Inle was closer, she could tell that Jaden was, indeed, a satyr--extended his hand, and Inle cautiously shook it with her own. "I'm Inle, and these are my kids, so to speak, Ciaran and Tybalt," she replied. The satyr looked as if he was about to say something more when Tybalt interrupted him. "There IS treasure, Mama, is just buried! Come dig!" Inle didn't mind the pseudo-command, and indulged the pirate once more, moving into the sandbox and sitting beside him. This put her back to Jaden, and she began to dig, tuning them all out as the boys resumed whatever conversation they had begun before her arrival. Moments passed, and the conversation seemed to die down a bit. Inle had already scooped a fair amount of sand out of the way when the satyr addressed her once more. "You will find treasure where you least expect it, you know...if only you'd like to find it." Inle turned, intending to question Jaden's cryptic remark, only to find him gone, no trace of his presence remaining...save a business card. As she twisted to reach for it, her fingers sifted through the sand and caught on something. Distracted for a moment, she instinctively grasped it, pulling it out of the sand. It was hard to tell what it was under all the grit, and at first it looked like an old, rusted spring. A brow quirked, however, as what it was became more and more apparent. "Well," she said softly, mostly to herself, "I'll be damned." Tybalt stared at the serpentine-like bracelet for a moment, in awe that his mother actually found treasure buried within the sand, before redoubling his efforts, sand flying behind him. Ciaran stared as well, but his gaze was a bit more dubious; he wasn't treasure-hungry like his brother, and was able to think a bit more clearly about the whole situation. Eventually, however, he too went back to playing in the sand. As the boys played, Inle pondered not only the bracelet, but the strange satyr who had somehow known it was there. Eventually, the sun began to dip, its dying light kissing the horizon. It was time to leave, and the boys stood and left the sandbox reluctantly. Inle rose to follow them, bracelet in hand, and noticed the still-untouched card out of the corner of her eye. She picked it up and studied it--there wasn't much to look at, as it held but one word: "Changelings." She felt as though the word should mean something, but couldn't place it, and with a shrug, she stuffed it in her pocket and the three of them began the walk home. Inle didn't notice Tybalt casting longing glances at the bracelet. -----------------------------It was hours later, and Inle was asleep. The bracelet had been washed free of sand and was sitting on her dresser. It wasn't something she was likely to wear, but it was pretty nonetheless. That and its mysterious appearance prompted her to keep it. Tybalt, who had snuck out of bed and into Inle's room, was glad she had. He tiptoed as quietly as he could towards the object he sought, and with his clawed feet, it took quite a bit of effort. Finally, the bracelet was within his grasp. He merely stared at it for a moment, taking the time to admire the way it seemed to glow in the moonlight streaming through the window, the way the eyes seemed filled with life. After making sure Inle was still asleep, he snatched it and made his way out of her room, down the stairs, and outside. He had taken to keeping his treasure in the open space of a tree where the dirt was dug up around the roots, and he didn't hesitate to add this shiny to his ever-growing collection. With a satisfied smile, he made his way back into the house and into bed, happy with his newly stolen treasure.

4/19/05 - Narrative, Crossposted here. "TYBALT!" Inle's voice could be heard throughout the house. It was no secret, by now, that she was looking for the theiving little pirate, and had been since she had awoken to find the bracelet gone. She knew that the Tall Tale had something to do with its disappearance; it wasn't a mother's instinct, merely common sense. Inle was not the only one who had common sense. Tybalt had escaped the easily-searchable confines of the house the first time he heard Inle call for him, but not after snagging some food, which he put in a pillowcase. He knew that his mother would be looking for him for quite awhile, and he'd be damned if he entered that house again for anything at all. Tybalt made a beeline for his treasure tree, thinking it the best place to hide; the branches had filled with leaves in the weeks since true spring began, and would provide excellent cover. An instinctive check of his trove showed nothing out of place, although the bracelet wasn't exactly where he had left it...and what were those tracks? The pirate knelt in the grass for a moment, looking at them intently; he was no tracker, and had no idea what had made them, but whatever it was looked to be big. Before he had time to speculate further, he heard Inle's voice once more, and caught a flash of her form as she ran past a large window that overlooked the yard. Deciding that escaping with his life, or at least with all of his feathers intact, was more important than anything else, he quickly scrambled up the tree. His strong, taloned feet made for an easy climb, in spite of the cumbersome, food-filled pillowcase. -------------------------------------Day turned into night, and Inle found herself exhausted. As the hours passed, Inle's search had turned from the bracelet to her still-missing son; the bracelet she could do without, Tybalt would prove much harder to replace. The frazzled woman had searched every nook and cranny in the building and found neither. She hadn't counted on Tybalt going outside, as the pirate usually took delight in finding new hiding places within the house itself. Eventually, however, she admitted to herself that he had to be outside. There wasn't anywhere else he could be, right? The lack of light made Inle's search all the more difficult. Although the backyard was large--the house sat alone, surrounded by acres of not a whole lot--there were very few trees. Few trees meant fewer hiding places for Tybalt, and Inle finally happened upon the treasure tree. The opening was not visible to Inle from the direction she was approaching in, so she didn't see the gap in the earth, or more importantly what the gap contained. What she did see, however, as she looked up into the leafy boughs, was Tybalt, who was asleep sprawled across a pair of sturdy branches. The sack of food sat in the crook of a branch near him, and looked to be nearly empty. Inle smiled and sighed in relief. The purpose for her search was all but forgotten; her son was safe, and that was all that mattered. She considered waking the pirate for a moment before dismissing the thought. He looked so cute up there, and his escape might prove to be good for his already stellar self-confidence. Inle couldn't climb the tree to get him, in any case, and she highly doubted that, if woken, Tybalt would come down of his own volition with the knowledge of Inle's anger at him still in his mind. And although he was alone and helpless in the tree, he would be well-protected--the family pets that roamed outside at night would ensure that. With an indulgent smile and a quickly blown kiss, Inle turned and headed back for the house, her mind at ease for the first time that day.

4/26/05 - Journal Entry
Tybalt found a KID today, in the backyard. He had stolen that bracelet I found in the park and hid it outside and went missing for that one day, and the next morning I wake up to him hitting me over the head with a pillow, and...well, he found a kid. A little snake girl, under the tree I found him sleeping in last night. I'm not sure HOW she got there, or WHY she was there, but Tybalt seemed pretty shaken up by it. He said he hadn't heard anything, and he woke up to her crying.
He also said the bracelet was gone. He doesn't know where it went, and it was in almost the same spot yesterday as it was the night he took it. My poor little pirate. This may be his oddest discovery yet.

_Tall_Tales_ Tybalt's Quest In order for children to grow, they must learn to interact with others, and they must learn new things. Tybalt's task will be two fold. First, all growing children need to learn! Your goal as a parent is to gather five books for your son's library and a boat of sorts as every pirate captain needs a fine vessel to commandeer. These items may be made, puchased from a mini-shop or you may ask the other Tale Authors to assist you in this task. Secondly, Tybalt's innate instincts to be captain must be developed by recruiting (at attempting to recruit) at least two crew members. After all, a Captain needs more than a first mate to run his ship. ((translation: playdates with at least two Tales he doesn't know very well or at all)) This may be done in a separate thread, in the shop, through IM's, or even in the guild (which is highly encouraged) however you go about it, you must document it in your Tome or provide a link to the said RP.

5/04/05 - Quest! Tons of thanks to Merewen for some of the images! <33333333333It wasn't often that Inle took Tybalt out shopping with her--the pirate had a nasty habit of taking things while no one was looking--but he had been so bored lately, the three-week punishment still in effect, that she figured he deserved a day out. She would simply have to keep an eye on him, that was all. Tybalt refused to hold her hand as they walked down the street, stuffing his own fuzz-covered hands in his pockets as if for emphasis. The pirate looked up at her dubiously, sapphire eyes peeking from beneath his hat, as Inle opened the door to a bookshop, as the sign hanging down from beneath the door indicated. "Why we here?" he asked, hesitating before going inside. "What, did you want to stay home?" Inle replied, arching a thricely-pierced brow at him. She chuckled as Tybalt turned and walked into the shop wordlessly before stepping inside herself. She bent down and grasped his shoulder, saying quietly in his ear, "Behave yourself, alright? And if I find out you've taken anything, I'll pull your tail feathers out. Understand?" Tybalt shuddered in response. "Aye, Mama," he responded, scowling a bit. "Thatta boy. And if you're REALLY good, I'll get you some new books. It's high time you started reading more anyway." With those words and a pat on his hat-clad head, she turned and headed down a seemingly random isle, eyeing him quickly as he did the same. "'S nothin' worth takin' here anyway," he mumbled as he looked around, somewhat lost. He'd been to the bookstore before, and made his way to the children's section. He wasn't a big fan of it; the pictures most of the books contained were too cheery and colorful for his tastes, but he still couldn't read very well. Inle's attempts to teach him had been met with dismissal, cursing, and outright hiding until she found him and practically strapped him to a chair. Tybalt walked dismally around the brightly colored section of the shop, about to give up on finding anything interesting to sit down and try to read when a very plain-looking book caught his eye, a huge difference from all the other brightly colored books. He reached up and grabbed it--all of the shelves were kid-sized, as if to fit the atmosphere--before moving with it to an equally kid-sized chair. He looked through the pages, prepared to be disappointed, when he came upon a page that contained a mouse dressed as any respectable pirate captain might be. Tybalt's flipping grew eager as he looked at the pictures, not bothering to try and read the words. When he got to the end of the book, he smiled a bit, knowing that this was the one he wanted. As Tybalt searched the shelves for Inle, who was far too short to be seen over them, he stopped as another book caught his eye, a few shelves higher than he could reach. Curious, he peered up at it, but couldn't see it clearly due to the angle he was standing at. Undaunted, he dropped his book and started climbing the shelves until he was eye level with it. Tybalt immediately smiled, the spine alone intriguing him as it and the books next to it both bore printed skulls upon them. He let go of the shelf with one hand and used it to try and pry the twin tomes loose, but as he did so, his free hand lost its grip on the shelf's slippery surface. The crushing power of his talons did him little good as he lost his balance and fell backwards, taking the books he was looking at plus a pair of others down with him. He fell onto his back with a muffled thud, looking up as the books fell down towards him. Not having time to roll out of the way, he merely tucked his knees to his chest and his wings to his sides, presenting the smallest target possible, squeezing his eyes shut. Three of the books clattered noisily to the floor around him, while the smallest smacked him in the leg before joining the others. Tybalt's eyes opened just in time to see Inle peek around the aisle, looking none too pleased with him. He looked at her ruefully from beneath his hat, which had somehow remained undamaged from the fall, and she sighed before starting towards him. As she knelt down beside him, he wiggled himself into a sitting position. "Tybalt, this is a bookstore, not a playground," she started admonishing him as she checked for bumps and bruises. "I know. I was gettin' a book," he replied as if she just said the dumbest thing in the world. Inle merely chuckled. "I can see that, kiddo. Looks like you got a few of them." Tybalt smiled winningly at her before standing, revealing the one book he had started out with. "Was this the one you wanted?" Tybalt started to say yes when he looked at the spread of books around him. They all looked so cool, in spite of the fact that he knew he wouldn't be able to read them for quite some time yet. "No. Alla them." Inle quirked a brow at him, but stacked all of the books into a pile before lifting them. "You know that means you're going to have to learn to read, right? No more fighting me about it." Tybalt looked as if he might protest, and the feathers of his wings ruffled and smoothed. "Ya. I know." With that, he marched towards the register, as if determined. Inle allowed herself a smile as she walked after him. It seemed her little pirate was starting to grow up.

5/06/05 - Quest! ((Once again, TONS of love and thanks to Mere! <##33333!))After a break for lunch and a visit to several more shops, none of which seemed to hold Tybalt's interest for very long, and it wasn't long before he started showing outward signs of boredom and impatience. Inle had to commend him--silently, of course, as it would do no one any good to stroke that already huge ego--for keeping a reign on his emotions, and, more importantly, for not destroying anything. As the pair were walking home, one with her hands full of bags, the other with feathers fluffed in agitation, Inle decided that there was one more stop they had to make, and stopped in front of a seemingly nondescript door. "Hey," she called down to the parrot, who merely looked up at her silently, a vaguely irritated look in his eyes. "Open the door, would ya?" The parrot's scowl deepened, and his stance widened as he looked up at Inle defiantly, crossing his arms over his chest. "No. Wanna go home now." "Come on, Tybalt, just one more shop and then we'll head home, I promise. Besides, I think you'll like this one." The Tale rolled his eyes as if to say "Yeah, right," but moved to the door anyway, pushing it open with moderate effort, just barely missing getting beaned with a shopping bag as Inle entered before him. She carefully placed the bags near the door and caught Tybalt's shoulder just as he was about to wander off. "Not that I don't trust you not to climb the walls and destroy everything in sight, but...well, I don't trust you not to climb the walls and destroy everything in sight." Tybalt's scowl only deepened, and his wings raised in an almost defensive stance. Inle thought, for a moment, that he might lose his temper, but to her surprise, he merely huffed irritably and stalked off. Inle chuckled, following close behind him. His pace slowed as he approached a random isle, and he looked up at the shelves curiously. They contained all manner of raw and unfinished objects, and Tybalt quickly walked through it, finding nothing that interested him. He stopped at the mouth of the next aisle, however, seeing it lined with toy cars and trains before even entering it. "Zissa toy store er somethin'?" he asked curiously. He wasn't much for cars and trains, but they were pretty shiny... Inle smiled down at him, content now that his flare of temper had subsided. "Close. It's a hobby shop. It's where people come to get things so they can make other things." Tybalt's head tilted to the side a bit, the universal sign of uncomprehension. Sighing, Inle bent down and hoisted him up, placing his sharp-taloned feet upon her shoulders, wincing as they dug in a bit. "See that case over there? With the little town and the little trains?" Tybalt squinted at the display case that was proudly mounted on a wall of the store. "Aye," he said after a moment. "Well, people build those. Collecting and building is what a hobby is, sort of." Tybalt made a noise of what might have been assent, and Inle carefully placed him back upon the floor. "Do you want to start a hobby of your own, kiddo? Something to take your mind off looting for awhile?" The feathered Tale merely looked at her as if she had just sprouted a second head and it had said the dumbest thing ever in the history of the spoken word. "Lootin' IS me hobby. I collec's shinies." His tone was that of someone explaining long division to a math professor. Inle merely grinned indulgently at him, unwilling to get into an argument on the validity of such a hobby. "So I've noticed. Why don't you take a look around anyway, just in case." There was something in her tone that implied she knew something he didn't, but he didn't seem to notice it and merely shrugged, walking quickly down the car aisle and around the corner to the next one. Inle followed and nearly tripped over him; he had stopped at this aisle as well, but his silence was awed rather than confused. Where the last row had held miniature cars, this one held miniature ships, of both the bottle-bound and tabletop display variety. Tybalt's first steps into the aisle were tentative, and after a few he craned his head back and upwards to look at Inle, a questioning look upon his face. She nodded and made a shooing motion, a clear indication that it was alright if he wandered the aisle a bit. He shot her a grin and turned his attention back to the shelves of ships, taking his time looking at each before moving on. The pirate found himself a bit disappointed; the parts of the aisle he had seen all carried naval or more modern ships, and those were far from what he was looking for. He moved on undaunted, and nearly squeaked (although he would soundly deny that later) in delight as the dull-looking aircraft carriers and destroyers turned into something he was much more familiar with. "Issa merchant ship," he said, his tone sure as he pointed to a ship with large, squarish sails. He took another step, pointed again. "Issa sloop. Sloops're too fat." Behind him, Inle chuckled. "Thassa naval snow, 'n they're bad cuz they hunt pirates." Another step down the aisle. This time he paused, not pointing. "Tha's a..." he trailed off, squeezing his eyes shut at a flash of memory. "Y'know I'll not question yer judgement, Cap'n, but why not a brigantine? Ye'd ne'er have t'worry about th' goddamned Royal Navy then."
The captain turned to the young man speaking, an amused glint in his eyes. "D'ye know why this ship is called the Serpentine, laddie?"
The boy shook his head, a smile coming to his face. He knew his captain relished any opportunity he had to brag about his ship.
"We're on a schooner due to its narrow hull, and it's shallow on th' draft. Why would we need t'blow away the goddamned Royal Navy when we can outrun 'em? Not only that, but we've got cannons t'spare! Th' Serpentine's very serpent-like if ye think about it, lad. Quick 'n agile, with a deadly bite." He paused a moment, allowing his words to sink in. "D'ye understand now, Tybalt?"
"Aye, Cap'n," Tybalt replied, "I do.""Tybalt? Are you alright?" Inle's voice permeated his thoughts, snapping him out of his trip down memory lane. The Tale pried his eyes open, blinking a few times as his eyes got used to the light once more. He shrugged off the hand that had landed on his shoulder, nodding. "Aye, 'm ok," he mumbled, feeling vaguely irritated at himself. Carefully, he picked up the ship. It was plastic, designed for display purposes; Tybalt didn't care about that. All he saw was the insignia on the black sails. "I wan' this one," he stated firmly, his tone brooking no debate. He held it closely, almost protectively to his chest. Inle, for her part, had no intention of denying him his toy; the ship section was the very reason she had brought him here, after all. "Alright, fledgeling, but I think it's time we started home, huh?" Tybalt shook his head, fighting off a yawn. It had been a long day for the young pirate. As the pair went to pay, Tybalt spotted something in a bin, something that would go wonderfully with his new toy ship. Cradling his toy in one hand, he reached up and tugged on the hem of Inle's shirt with his other. When she looked down at him, he pointed. "Awww, those are adorable, Tybalt! Did you want one?" She cooed uncharacteristically over his discovery. "'N one fer Videe, too," he said, feathers ruffling happily. Inle nodded in understanding and scooped up a pair of adorable plushie eggs. With that, they paid and made their way towards home, both tired after a long, fruitful day.

5/17/05 - RP Recap
Tybalt had been antsy for days and days. After his incident in the bookstore and his subsequent promise to Inle, he had begun to learn how to read. He was learning quickly; it would be awhile before he was ready for War and Peace, but he was hardly bad at it. The little pirate had been such a good student that Inle thought he deserved a break, which was the reason for their visit to the shop.
The little bell tinkled merrily, as always, as the pair walked in. Inle moved towards a chair while Tybalt looked around, presumably for something to get into. The lack of people in the shop would have bored him had he not been on a mission to find more shinies to put in his treasure chest, although he certainly wasn't adverse to a little "friendly" competition like the one he had had with Lance. Then again, he wouldn't mind having Vidya there to hunt with, either. With a sigh, he started poking around the shop's aisles, waiting to find something that would merit his attention.
Smerdle rushed down the street, Sylvester clinging to her back, receiving the most precarious piggy-back ride of his short life. She had good news about her house search and wanted to share it with Chucky.
"Mama, mama, mama. Put me down," Sylvester said. "I'm gonna barf."
Smerdle jogged to a halt, the fear of giraffe-vomit on her hat outweighing her excitement over her good news. "Okay," she said, lowering Sylvester to the ground. "Feel better?"
"Yep."
"Can we get going again?" she asked, motioning down the street.
"I don't wanna run anymore."
"Well, I can't just leave you here," Smerdle began.
Sylvester pointed up, indicating that they were standing right outside the Stationery Store.
"Good idea," Smerdle said. "Nobody'll hurt you in there. I think. I'll be back in a little while." And with that, she was off again, running down the block.
Sylvester smiled and pushed open the door. The last time he had been here hadn't been that awful. "Hello?"
Woman and Tale both turned towards the sound of the door opening, and the small voice that followed. They bore identical curious expressions, and glanced at each other briefly before looking back towards this newcomer.
"Hi there," Inle said slowly. "Are you lost, kiddo?"
Tybalt, meanwhile, was examing this newcomer as he did to everyone else he met. In his short life, he had seen all sorts of Tales; Khia was a shapeshifting dogfoxboything, Vidya had blue skin and white wings, and that damnable Lance looked like an overgrown lizard. However, he had never seen a Tale--if this child was indeed a Tale--quite like this one, with his long neck and short mane. "What're YOU 'sposed to be?" he asked with Tybalt-like tact.
"Mama had stuff to do. She was running and..." he bounced up and down as he thought about being jostled, "...and I didn't feel good. I feel okay now," he explained brightly. He didn't want this lady to think he had a bad mama. "I came from here and now I'm back," he finished quickly and breathlessly, in true Sylvester style.
Turning toward the brightly colored Tale, Sylvester smiled shyly. His ears lowered and he clasped his hands behind his back. He was a little boy as far as he knew! But somehow Sylvester thought that wasn't what this other kid meant. "Mama says I'm like a giraffe," he mumbled. "An animal. She showed me one on TV. I don't got hooves and I've got two legs. And I talk. And stand up and stuff." He didn't know what else to say, so he stopped.
Well, that explained everything, because people were constantly dropping kids off at the shop! Inle sighed; as long as the kid didn't get sick while she was around, she could care less what other mothers did with their kids. He was a Tale, at least, which answered one of her questions. "I see...well, we'll be here for awhile, so at least you won't be alone. I'm Inle, and that rude parrot over there--" here she pointed at Tybalt, who totally ignored her "--is Tybalt. He's a Tale too."
Hmm. This boy didn't seem too bad so far, not like that mouthy, attitude-wielding kid with black wings. He was...nice. Almost subservient in his posture, and nonthreatening in every way. Tybalt relaxed a bit, the feathers he had unconsciously fluffed smoothing once more. "'Hoy," he greeted the other boy, his tone almost amicable.
Sylvester nodded at Inle, but stayed near the door. He didn't want to mess the store up. "Hi, I'm Sylvester," he said, head still lowered.
Inle breathed a mental sigh of relief as Tybalt seemed to not immediately hate this Tale as much as he had the last one he met. "It's nice to meet you, Sylvester. I don't think I've ever seen a Tale...quite like you. And so polite, too." Must be nice, she thought to herself, to have a son that doesn't beat people up upon meeting them.
He was almost TOO nice, Tybalt decided. There must be something wrong with him, something he was overlooking. His claws clicked noisily on the hard floor of the store as he approached the other boy, looking up at him; his eyes were merely speculative now, and no longer distrustful. "You've gotta long neck," he said after a moment of inspection. "'sit hurt t'keep yer head up?"
Sylvester's eyes widened a bit as Tybalt crossed the room. Those claws looked sharp. "Um, it doesn't hurt yet," he answered. He had never been asked so many questions about himself in such a short amount of time. Suddenly yearning for a television or something else that wouldn't ask him about himself, he searched for something to say. Taking a cue from the short time he had spent with Viddy, he decided a compliment would do since he had liked receiving them so much. "Your wings are cool. They're not on your head, like the others." He stood up a bit straighter. "Your claws are scary, though," he said without thinking. His hands flew around and would have covered his mouth if he could have reached it at that moment. Instead, he clasped them in front of him and started wringing them.
Inle noticed the change in Sylvester's stance and shifted to the edge of her seat, ready to spring and snatch Tybalt up should he prove to be too much for the other boy. Sylvester was a good deal bigger than Tybalt, but he didn't look to be as scrappy as the pirate was.
She had little to worry about, however, as Tybalt paused his inspection upon being complimented. He couldn't help but preen a bit, his ego being nicely stroked by this odd-looking Tale. "Thank'ee," he said, a proud, content smile flittering over his lips, the wings being complimented shifting a bit as if they knew they were being talked about. "On me head?" He puzzled over this for a moment, before realization dawned on him. "Like Videe? Y'know Videe? She's me first mate!" he babbled happily. He looked down at his feet at the mention of his claws, allowing one to tap repeatedly on the floor. "Aye, they're sharp," he said, a niggling in his mind reminding him of his dream. Tybalt looked back up, deciding not to ponder it further. "Yer neck's kinna neat. Bet it comes in handy, aye?"
"Yep, I met Viddy n' Jiro at a party. They both had wings on their heads." He was a little confused at what Tybalt meant by 'first mate,' but he decided she was just a friend and left it at that. Oh, wait! She had mentioned a 'Cap'n' with feathers. That must be Tybalt. He'd find out what all that meant later. For now...
"I can see on top of counters and stuff. All the other times, it's annoying." Throughout this conversation, Sylvester had calmed visibly. He smiled. "Nice to meetcha." He looked around. "What do you do here when there're no parties?"
Jiro? Tybalt didn't know a Jiro, but he knew Videe and that was all that mattered. The two Tales had that in common, at least. And Sylvester's neck WAS useful, it seemed...too useful for him to just dismiss as something interesting. "'S'nice, yes. 'N I dunno about parties, but me 'n Videe look fer treasure. Th' store's fulla shiny stuff!" Tybalt quieted, looking up at the giraffe, that speculative gleam back in his eye. "Y'should come with us, yer long neck'd come in handy, I bet."
"Well, yeah sure," Sylvester said. It would be like an episode of Double Dare. Cool! "What kinda stuff do you find?" Smerdle probably wouldn't like it very much if he brought home a table or something from the shop.
Excellent! Sylvester might be a little too big to go trawling through cabinets with himself and Vidya, but he would make for a wonderful lookout! "We've foun' lotsa stuff! Inna cabinet we foun' shiny jewels 'n coins--" Tybalt-speak for marbles and buttons "--'n we foun' sheets 'o silver onna shelf!" Silver PAPER, that is. "'N we fight monssers, too, like hoards'a bugs 'n big stupid dragons!"
The monsters sounded pretty cool too, as long as none of them fought with him personally. "Yeah! I can help carry the treasure so you and Viddy can find more! You've never been hurt or nothin, have you?"
Tybalt blinked at the tall child in front of him. He just got invited to go treasure hunting and all he wanted to do was help carry it? He didn't want to help look for it, or fight bad guys for it, or adventure or anything? Hmm...well, something was better than nothing, he supposed. "Err, nope, never been hurt!" The time in the basement with the chupacabra didn't count, because no one actually got hurt. Grounded and scolded, yes, but not hurt. "We do th' hurtin'!" He paused for a moment, reflecting on that before amending the statement. "I do th' hurtin' ackshly. Videe got mad when I hurt the dumb dragon, but she helped kill th' bugs." He nodded sagely, idly hoping the boy didn't think any less of Vidya for it.
"Good, good." He didn't have much of a reaction to the bug stomping, because he didn't think much of bugs. As long as no Tales got hurt... for some reason, the thought of him being responsible for someone when they were hurt made him very nervous. "When d'you do this stuff?" Sylvester had never been out at night and he wasn't sure he would like that either.
When? This boy was full of silly questions! "Well we don' PLAN it, I guess..." he trailed off, wondering what Sylvester was after. "It jus' happens when it happens, y'can't plan fer it."
"Okay. That sounds fun." He thought it was a little strange, with his whole life revolving around Smerdle's scatterbrained idea of planning. He thought everyone was like that. "What else do you like to do?" He suddenly felt like watching TV and playing around the house weren't very adventurous at all.
"Oh, lossa stuff. I like 'splorin' outside n'round th' house, 'n findin' new things t'see, 'n goin' where 'm not 'sposed to, cuz there's funner things there." He smiled, feeling strangely at ease with Sylvester, not caring, for once, that the boy might use this knowledge against him one day. "What d'you do fer fun?" What's good for the goose might as well be good for the gan--er, parrot.
"Nothin as cool as you!" Sylvester said excitedly. "Go to the movies, play with my toys, go places with Mama," he continued, counting off his boring activities on his fingers.
As if she had been called, the door opened and Smerdle entered. "I got some groceries..." Seeing Inle and Tybalt, she stopped talking for a second. "Oh, I didn't realize anyone would be here. Although, I should have. This is a store." The last part she had mumbled to herself. "Sorry if he caused any trouble," she said to no one in particular, motioning to Sylvester with the hand that wasn't holding the grocery bag. "And sorry you had to watch him," she said to Inle. She had thought that scary big book would keep him company. But she wasn't supposed to talk about that anymore.
Movies? Tybalt had never been to a movie before, but he had always wanted to go. "Nono, movies're cool!" He imagined so, anyway, and resolved to go to one. Someday. Eventually. Maybe.
Tybalt looked up at the door as it opened, as did Inle, who grinned faintly. "Oh, not at all. We were here anyway. Sylvester's nice, for a boy Tale; he's probably the first of his gender that Tybalt hasn't wanted to beat up." Inle was kind of proud at that fact; it meant her son was growing up a bit, and learning to tolerate others. Or so she thought.
Yeah, the movies he had seen were pretty cool, he thought. "I guess so." He looked up at Smerdle. "We aren't goin?" he asked.
"No. You can keep talking." She eyed the Study and sat down as far away from it as she could.
"So, was Tybalt born here too?" she asked Inle. "I haven't met anyone who doesn't at least tolerate Sylvester. He's so... malleable. I guess that room makes all kinds of kids," she said, smiling.
Born...that was a different way of putting it. Inle always thought that the kids were just created by the Tome and the Study, but born sounded...right, somehow. "It really does," she replied. "The kids that I've seen range from human-looking to completely oddball." She gestured at the anthropomorphic pair. "Cases in point, right? And it's good that he can get along with people. Some of the parents and kids I've met here are...well. Let's just say that a Tome that sprouts kids isn't the half of it." Inle was hardly a gossip, but even she had to admit that some of the people that passed through the shop's doors had to be seen to be believed.
Tybalt didn't know what the word mall-ya-bull meant, but he liked Sylvester alright. He was no Vidya, but he wasn't Lance or Olivia, either.
Sylvester had certainly met more Tales than Smerdle had, but she had seen a few at the party and they were all a little weird. "I wonder what they're here for," she mused aloud.
"Well, you can come over to see Sylvester whenever you want," she said to Tybalt. "I have a feeling we're going to be between houses soon, but I'm sure we'll be back in here after we move."
Sylvester leaned over and whispered as quietly as he could. "Maybe there're some places near my house where you aren't supposed to go." The only place he'd actually been forbidden was the roof, but Sylvester thought Tybalt was way craftier than he himself was. He would think of something.
Inle shrugged. Although she had often wondered the same thing, it wasn't what the question that was foremost on her mind when she thought of her feathery son. "Who's to say? I'm sure we'll all find out eventually, probably. Hopefully...maybe. What I want to know is HOW they get here. I mean, yeah, there's the Study and the Tome, but there's got to be more to it than that. Where do they come from? Does the Tome just randomly pick a baby out of thin air whenever someone writes in it?" She smiled at the invitation, feeling a bit relieved; Tybalt didn't have many people he could truly call friends, but it seemed like he was quickly gaining one more. "The same to the both of you. It isn't often we get visitors, and I'm sure Tybalt would love to have him over."
Tybalt perked up at this. Places you weren't supposed to go were a challenge in that you had to go to them without getting caught, and the pirate was ALWAYS up for a challenge. "Y'find th' best stuff in ferbiddin' spots," he confided to the giraffe.
"True. When I first met Sylvester..." Smerdle glanced at the Study, but didn't finish her thought. "Well, I'm sure it's a weird experience for everybody." She smiled and reached for her grocery bag. "We should get going," she said loud enough so Sylvester could hear. "I'd give you our phone number, but we're going to be moving soon and I'm not sure we're keeping the phone." Smerdle sighed. "Sorry to leave so abruptly, but I've got eggs in here." She shook the bag. "It was nice meeting you two," she said cheerfully.
Sylvester looked up at his Author and back down at Tybalt. "I gotta go," he said. "Don't do any fun stuff without me." Remembering what Tybalt said about fun things not being planned, he added, "Or, um, well, if some fun stuff happens, 'member to tell me about it later." Sylvester waved goodbye and followed Smerdle out of the shop.
Inle nodded in complete understanding, recalling her own introduction to Tybalt; the crashing waves and the sound of steel on steel probably hadn't happened to every other Author. "Oh, likewise! And I'm sure we'll see each other soon. The shop has its ways of bringing people together," she said with a chuckle.
Tybalt emitted a bark of laughter. "Ok! We gotta do fun stuff t'gether sometime! Bye!" He waved at the retreating form of his new crewmate, content at the day's accomplishments. After searching the store for more shinies to stea--er, procure--he and Inle went home as well.
