When Richard opened his eyes, he saw he was not helping matters much, if at all. He frowned at the tossed papers. He put down the tackle box and stuck his cane deep into the sand.
Richard could recongize when a woman needed to cry. Erica has been a firey and sometimes angry woman but there had been points their lives when that passion had hit a wall and something had to give.
He circled around here gangly form and placed a hand on her shoulder. "Come on, lets take you home." He squeezed it gently in what he hoped for a reassuring manner, hoping he wasn't being too forward.

No.... no. It was not yet time to cry. And, apparantly, it was not time for Emerwyn's mind to recognize that this man was showing her some kindness. His words were well-meant. If she wasn't always so deluded, perhaps she would be able to explain herself. Her tensed shoulder loosened and sagged when his hand placed down on it. She looked down at the paper, face unreadable. She just stared. "Home..."

Richard had expected tears to come as soon as he touched her when they did not he was confused. This was no longer a game to him. He had told this woman things he didn't like to admit to himself and she... just seemed numb.
When she spoke, he kicked himself for using "home." It like so many words here were like old TNT ready to detonate at the slightest bump.
Exhaling in frustration. "What is your duplex number miss? I can walk you there if you'd like." He looked at the papers arranged about her feet. Love letters maybe?

She suddenly gave her head a little jerk, and she turned her face away from the paper on the ground. The remainging pages she still clutched with both arms.
"I am sorry. You must forgive me. It has been too long for me to be like this. I have already come too far."
She leaned down and took the paper delicately. Her eyes focused on the words she had written there. "'You know quite well, deep within you, that there is only a single magic, a single power, a single salvation...and that is called loving. Well, then, love your suffering. Do not resist it, do not flee from it. It is your aversion that hurts, nothing else.' ...Hermann Hesse. This page did not lead me anywhere. Until I discovered the river.
Thank you, Richard. Thank you very much." she smiled, her eyes still glistened, but the tears never came. She was not fighting them, and it was frighteningly unnatural to see. "I live in duplex number eighteen. It would make me very happy if you would accompany me."

What was Amaya in? 22? Was this girl done? Was that as far as she'd go?
Richard blinked as he looked her, either she had lost the ablity to cry or this girl was seriously in need of some type of medication. At her words all he could do was shrug, smile and collect his things. "Alright then, I think I know where that is." Richard waited for her to follow.

She nodded, and proceeded alongside him. She'd obviously overdone it. It had happened again. Why was it so hard for her to speak to other people? This man had tried valiantly to help her, and she appreciated more than he would ever know.
Emerwyn walked a little dazed toward her set of duplexes. Despite the fact that she knew the way, she more followed Richard's lead.
Softly, she hummed a little tune... a new one.

After walking in silence about halfway to the duplexes Richard glanced back at her. She seemed so lost. He'd never seen anything like it before. Perhaps she could tell him why? "How did you come to this island Emewyn?" Maybe she was a mental patient that was brought here to be cured like Cody's MS? Seemed much less effective if so.

Here was Emerwyn's chance to explain herself. The reason she was here - that was exactly what was bothering her.
She took a little shallow breath. Her language still contained that formal air, as result of her accent and diction, but the story seemed to bring her somewhat out of her cloud. "I came to this place... when my ship was wrecked, over a year ago. I was headed home to England, to meet with some very dear friends. Three months prior, someone... someone very, very close to me - vanished. He- we- we lived together. I might have been able to help find him, if only I had not-" She held up her notes. "He left me a note. He knew he was going away. He's hiding... I need to find out where. The clues he left me, they were in the literature we both loved so much."

Richard was fairly familar with mental conditions common to the soldiers in Baghdad, this wasn't one of those. Of that he was certian. Seeing hidden messages where there was none? He had heard you can find that in Schizophrenia but the main thing about that were voices, not finding meaning where there is none. Not Paranoia. Just delusional maybe.
"Whats the--" Richard stopped, his conscence prodding him to silence. he was so tempted to point out that even if she figured out her mythical message it would do her no good. Richard hated it when people we're blind to the truth but the girl seemed so fragile already, he just couldn't do it. His bforehead furrowed and he bit his lip, thinking around the problem.
He tried again. "Thats interesting, what's the letter say?"

She gave a concentrated look at nothing in particular, and recited, as parts of it came to her head.
"My Dearest One, ...You know I am bound for England, to help Ketta through her mourning. This is... a ploy." She stopped, and breathed again. "I am not getting on that plane. ...I may not disclose my location to you... not want to get you involved.... Whether I may see you again remains to be seen.
...Yes. We will meet again, Emerwyn."
Emerwyn shuddered a little. "And then... the end. It's in the books."

Richard had to admit that note, if real, was loaded. But still he didn't see anyway to ek meaning from that. He was no literature buff either. "Thats as clear as mud. What happens if you pass his test?" Whoops, probably said to much. Had to be said but now was probably not the time. He turned back towards her duplex but waited for her before moving again.

But, Emerwyn smiled at this. She was fragile in many regards, this was true, but she did not want to be treated as a mother who had lost all of her children in one fatal accident.
"Then, maybe I have a chance to help him. This is not a game that Jerrick would play. Something has happened to him. And, with the clues he has left me, I can discover where he is hiding, and perhaps why. And, I know, it is a hopeless thing to hope that I can escape here to save him... but I shall not give up on the hope that I can contact him, or Lyra or Ketta.
Until I know he is safe... I cannot-" She broke off again, and said no more.

That was by far the most coherent thing she'd said all night and Richard was taken by surprise by the quiet force behind her words. The Deer girl had a backbone after all. Richard's smile eached his gentle chuckle.
"Thats good, Your young yet. You'll see the end of this, one way or another. Trust me on that." Richard's own thoughts were on the king of Diamonds.
The pair was approaching her duplex now.

Her eyes travelled past Richard's smiling face towards her approaching door. Richard had a strange way of going about it, but he had rejuvinated her spirits. He had a sense of a close uncle about him.
A few feet from the door, she stopped and turned to him. She placed a hand on his shoulder, and met his eyes. "Thank you, Richard." Her eyes were at this point brighter than they had been since he'd first seen her, even though they remained so shadowed. Her smiled was small and sincere, and it finally looked like she was once a human being.

Richard had all types of smiles for all types of situations, some of them were real and others were fakes. The one that Richard wore at the moment was small, almost a smirk but it reached into his eyes which seemed to twinkle.
"Well this is about as far as I go." Richard drove his cane into the ground, freeing his hand. "You take care M'lady." He reached out a ran a finger tip up the outside of her elongated ear. Much like one would brush a lock of hair out of someone's eyes. "I'm in Duplex 70, you come visit once in a while ya hear."
