think in erms of evolutionary wild swings, the dragon could have been a wild tangent far away from the dinosaur, but they could have been still related. You could say that dinosaurs may not have been direct ancestors, but they could have been somewere down in the dragons evolutionary line.

I think that they probably have some amoebic common ancestor (maybe not that far back) but probably similar.
