Tommy... he was the guy with Alec when they tried to kill Aubrey, wasn't he? He hadn't seem that bad looking then but perhaphs he'd changed again. But she didn't add onto the subject, more interested in his wavering demeanor after his second statement.

"Yeah..." She smiled sympathetically at him. "But even after they're gone they still watch over us. Making sure that in the end, everything will be alright." The girl tried to sound encounraging, assuming whoever he was thinking of was either dead, or back on the mainland never to be seen by his eyes again.

Richard quickly steadied himself but was unable to prevent the event of his wife's death from cycling through the back of his mind. The girl was so sentamental it was making Richard's mind turn down paths which were usually sealed. His went to his chest where under his shirt hung his wife's wedding and engaugement rings.

Amaya's statement of gave him a spring board to get away from the those memories. Erica had hated religion after all, it had just been an excuse for injustice to her.

"You can't rely on that I'm afriad. You have to make things alright for yourself." The words were surprisingly bitter, In his mind eye, Richard saw the suffering he had seen in the Congo and Iraq. They made him angry and shut away the sadness. Many of those people, were never going to be alright.

The teen opened her mouth to say something, but stopped herself at how bitter his words had been. She shut her mouth for a moment, yellow gaze looking down at her feet. Amaya wasn't very religious, but she did consider herself a Christian no matter how many times it seemed that God had forgotten about them and forsaken them all.

"... Sorry." She said again, though nothing more.

Richard was sorry he had snapped at the girl "Its alright," He sad quickly as a form of an apology.

Richard resumed building his structure as an awkard silence enveloped the two of them. The repetive motion soothing Richard's jumbled emotions. He was nearing the end now, On his seventh deck of cards the structure was unmistakablly similar to one they both knew.

Amaya didn't seem to mind the silence all that much as she watched him build and build onto his massive house of cards. She wondered how he did it, having never been skillful or careful enough for such a task.

"It's very good... tha labs?" She inquired, looking from the tower to the elderly man. It was hard to ever forget what the omminous structure above their heads looked like.

Richard placed the last card and stood back. Richard blinked. He actually hadn't realized what he had been building. "Heh well what do you know? I guess there is a resemblance."

Richard had learned how to build with card so long ago that he had internallized the process. It was like scuplting clay.

Amaya smiled slightly. "It's a shame we don't have a camera." She had never really seen someone build a house of cards before, or had been able to do even four cards together by herself - they always fell flat.

"I can always build another." That might not be a true statement, but Richard refused to dwell on it right now.

"Its just like everything else." Richard reached forward and plucked a card off the structure. It wobbled a bit, but didn't fall. He placed the card in front of him. Jack of Spades.

The iguana made a murmur of acknowledgment before looking over at the book shelf. "Well, I should probably be going. I've been meaning to look something up." She started towards the bookshelf.

"They all fall down eventually."

Richard plucked another card. The King of Diamonds. The stucture did not wobble but instead began to fall into itself. Slowly at first. Then the entire thing gave way in a explosion of cards that seemed to flow across the table like water.

After getting her book Amaya returned to the table just in time to see all of them fall. She made another aknowledging murmur, holding the book on green iguana's in her large palms.

Richard chuckled to himself a little. Things were clicking into place in his head. He turned to Amaya, "What about the people who help Him. His staff, his guards. Why do they do it. Why do they help him?" Richard's mood had shifted again.

Amaya blinked at the sudden questions, but wasn't all that surprised. She was one of the ones who had been here the longest, one of the most knowledgable to the staff's cruelty. "It could be for many different reasons..." She began sadly. "Money. Power. The ability to change people's lives so dramatically. For the sake of research. Knowledge..." She trailed off for a moment. "We were told that turning us into animals would some day maybe cure cancer... I don't see how the two could ever connect, or how the people in the building can sleep at night... but I don't doubt they do."

The iguana looked at him, her expression worn with the knowledge she possessed of the staff - however little it may be compared to others. "They've done some pretty horrible things and I don't mean just ripping us from our lives and turning us into monsters. They toy with us however they want, especially if you get on their bad side."

Richard sighed. Turned back to pick up the cards, it would take awhile. "Thanks."

"How long can it last? We can't escape. We'll just have to wait until the whole thing implodes on itself. Too bad I can't snatch cards out of labs." Richard was mumbling to himself, kneeling on his hands and knees. Picking up the cards that had fallen around the table.

Amaya set her book aside and began to help him, though she was slower due to her clumsy hands. "I dunno... but even if it were to end, I don't know what any of us would do." She sighed a little. "Those not fully transformed can get cancer if they don't finish and those of us that are finished... well... can't really go back to the mainland..."
