She smiled weakly as she glanced away, towards the sky and horizons that never failed her and never faultered. Her life was taking a new twist, and though she was not afraid of its course, she was unsure of where her foot would land next in this long, windin path of life. She sighed softly, not in an agitated or unkind manner, but more of a thoughtful type, and slowly let her eyes fall back upon him.

"I don't think I could give away my independence to just any human," she murmured, stepping her forward hooves in an uneasy pattern, "but I may commit myself to one, yet. I suppose, would it be ok if I lurked around the village for a while?" She glanced around her, thinking that none of them would mind too very much.

She didn't seem to notice the woman or the girl, or the thoughts that clearly passed over her bright, sparkling eyes. She just nodded slowly, turning her attention fully to him. For some reason, in him she found a sort of calming sensation. He was sort of the shelter that she needed and it was a long time coming - for the little while she had known him, she was already so very fond of him.

[[Ah, I believe you're probably having Turkey Day with your husband and kids, so I'll just leave the comment here xD

I'm going to make a male human persona at some point to pair Shai with, but I don't particuraly want to go through the trouble of a tipi, haha. xD But yeah, that's it. Happy Turkey Day!]]

The idea came over him in a swift, growing glow, like the sun rising over the edge of the sea. He realized he didn't want her to leave. He wanted her there with him... always. Even though they had only spent this one day together, it was as if they were meant to fit with each other, like one piece of a puzzle nestling against another. This dawning realization settled over him and clicked into place. This was what he needed to complete him.

He drew a steadying breath and moved closer to her, neck arched in a gentle gesture of how important this was to him. It didn't ever occur to him she might say no. He blew softly against her face with his warm breath, and murmured, "Yes, please stay. Stay with me. Forever. Be my mate and never be alone again. I promise this to you. I will always be with you." He bobbed his head in his sincerity and whickered so low and soft. "Just please stay with me. My home will be your home, and my family will be yours. You need never be alone in this world ever again. Ever." His eyes met her in a quiet appeal with the fervor of genuine love.

They had spent a glorious ten months together, spending quiet days walking amongst the villagers and the surrounding countrysde. His heart swelled at the thought that he had finally found happiness. He had eyes only for her, practically neglecting his human darling. All he knew for those ten heavenly months was her.

During those blissful days her belly grew round and taut, and he glowed with pride. His foals grew in her womb, and he couldn't have been happier. When the day for their delivery came, he spent a nervous time, owrrying for her and his foals. When all was done, he was as exhausted as she must be... but she refused his comfort, keeping near the baskets. A little stung, he had nosed the one basket she wasn't cuddling with, and laid down with his head resting atop it.

He must truly have been worn out, for he heard and knew nothing until he opened his eyes to the cool breeze and twittering of birds the next morning. And she was gone.

He had leapt to his hooves in alarm, sure something was wrong. For not only was she gone, but the other two baskets were gone as well, he depressions where they had nestled now cold and empty. He had charged about the area, bugling loudly in a desperate call. But to no avail.

With shock numbing him, he had returned to the last basket left. He wasn't alone, after all. He had this little one to look after, to love. Tenderly he nuzzled the lid of the basket, and whuffled his warm breath between the weave. "Never fear, little one," he whispered. "I will never leave you." Even if she has left me and you both, he thought with as a dull ache settled into his heart. What was he to do now?
