OH NO! Look, Arya, I know you want to make Elena happy, but the leaf isn't something you should set on fire!

Shouko and Madeline stood before the house and looked at each other. The older girl held a large flowerpot in her arms, and the younger one clutched a letter. They had arrived back at Headquarters to discover it abandoned, but having learned of this leaf, Shouko had taken it upon herself to deliver a flowerpot and a letter once she was feeling up to it. And Madeline? She hadn't felt safe leaving the toddler alone.

Nodding, Shouko stepped forward and placed the flowerpot on the steps, and Madeline placed the letter on top of it. And then they beat a hasty retreat.

the letter
Dear Ithiltari,

I don't know if you've heard of us, but we've heard of you! We're an organization called The Eden Project, and you've got one of our leaves. If everything is going normally, you'll have noticed the leaf is a bit... odd... at times. Maybe it moves, or gives you a funny feeling. Well, that's perfectly normal - it's just a sign of the soul inside it, and it will develop into a child. (Some take longer than others.) We're sorry it's taken so long to get this flowerpot to you, but there have been some issues at headquarters. But if you plant the leaf, it should get right back onto its development schedule. If you doubt any of this, please come down to our headquarters (the address is on the envelope) and you can meet some of us for yourself!

All the best,
Shouko

(Please RP planting the leaf to make it grow.)

Captain

Status: Complete
Date: September 9th, 2007 || Location: The House || Participants: Jerava, Laure, Elena

Jerava had expressed her interest in planting the leaf to the Tahnee she had placed in charge of the House grounds. Malira had eyed her askance, and refused to give over any of her pots and soil for the task. Disgruntled, since Jer had already paid for the materials in question, the elf had gone to Gaia proper, coming back by way of a property in Barton. Arms full with a bag of potting soil and a cheerfully colored flowerpot, Jer fumbled for her house keys, only noticing the pot on the doorstep when said keys fell into it with a small billow of dried earth.

Continuing to curse under her breath, Jer set the bag and pot down, grabbing her keys and the letter all in one motion. Using the edge of one of the keys as a letter opener, she pulled out the message inside, brown eyes flicking over it quickly. "Perfect timing," she groaned, sticking her keys in the door and unlocking, with the letter going in a pocket. "This had better have just arrived today," Jer said ominously to the front door, which had just given off a flash of light, nudging it open with a foot as she put the orange flowerpot inside the one she'd bought before picking them both up and setting them on a table just inside the door. The bag followed after, and Jer left it next to the table as she closed the door behind her. The door melted away as soon as it was shut, and Jer grabbed just the orange pot as she headed for the room's only other exit. "Make sure Malira comes to get this," she called out, stepping into a darkly paneled hallway. "Who's got leaf watch right now?"

"That would be Elena," came a voice in reply over what one would assume was an intercom system. "They're in your office," the speaker expanded.

"Good," Jer said briskly, tapping a section of the wall to reveal a staircase that spiraled down. Maintaining a firm grip on the flowerpot, the elf quickly made her way down to the main floor of her lab, pleased to see no new scorch marks or other evidence of faulty experimentation. Her destination was clear - the only firm seeming structure in the entire room was a boxy room in the middle. When she opened the door, Jer saw her desk chair spinning about, catching a glimpse of her eldest daughter in the chair, a suspicious spot of green balanced on her head. "Elena!" Jer said sharply, causing the spinning to stop abruptly with a squeak as Elena's bare feet slapped against the ground as brakes.

"The leaf likes it!" she said in defense, the object in question wiggling unhappily as it fell off and landed in Elena's lap. Jer chose not to comment; since the girl had been right about the leaf being a child waiting to happen, her mother hoped that she wouldn't be as antagonistic or apathetic towards this sibling, like she was with the other two.

"Well, it's spinning days are over for now. Unless you want to hold a flowerpot in your lap?" Jer asked, setting that object down on her desk, careful not to damage the marble. Elena shook her head and bit her lip before gathering the leaf up to hand over.

"I told you so," she said in a sing-song, as Jer scooped aside some dirt to make a hole for the leaf.

"Yes, you did," Jer replied calmly, taking the now still leaf in her hands. "This is what the letter said to do," she explained to them both, setting the leaf in the hole, stem up, before gently replacing the dirt around it.

"Weird," Elena commented, setting her chin on a hand and watching.

"From the girl who came from a book? Lissa's the most normal one of you lot, all things considered." Elena wrinkled her nose at the mention of one of her baby sisters. "Glass of water down here?" A quick nod from the girl and a glass was handed over. Elena had clearly been drinking from it, there was a faint smudge of lipgloss on the rim. Slowly tilting it over the pot, Jer sprinkled a bit of water on the leaf, which wriggled contentedly before settling down.

"Now what?"

"I guess we wait."

Reserved for another journal entry. Sadly, I can't install fonts on either the work or school PC's (boohiss), so I'm unable to put things on the pretty paper. ):

You know leaves turn colors in autumn, but this is just weird. Naice has begun to fade to a brownish color and strange thorns have begun to sprout.

Maybe it's mutating. Who knows.

Anarya sat bolt upright in her chair, pushing herself backwards at the same time. "Moooooooooooom!" she wailed, staring anxiously at the leaf in front of her. "I swear I didn't do anything!" the girl continued after Jerava had dashed back into her office from the lab.

"Shh, it's fine," Jer said soothingly, picking up the flowerpot and moving it closer to her. "Maybe it's supposed to happen?" Arya looked incredulously at her mother, her expression pure, perfect teenage 'you can't be serious'.

"Mom, the leaf turned brown and there are thorns on it." Jer's only reply was a shrug as she waited to see if there would be any further change.

As Jer and Arya watch, the thorns grow longer and thinner and fold upwards as the leaf vanishes beneath them. From within the casement of quills, there seems to be a glow beginning...
