Do you like tattoos?
  No, they're tacky!
Of course, I have some :D
Not for me, but I don't mind them.

I have a friend who does tattoos and his rule for stuff like that is "wait six months. if you still want it then, get it."
See, it would be six months right now sweatdrop I'm definatly not somebody to rush into things, so when I know I really want something I don't have to think about it much more. I'm just waiting for my mom to calm down about me having the money for it now.

I'd say go for it. Your hip sounds like it'd be the ideal place, despite your fears. There, it would be easy to hide from both your mother and any potential employers.

I don't have any tattoos yet, but I plan on getting the Goddess symbol on my ankle eventually. I'm just kinda poor and afraid of the pain sweatdrop

What exactly is the "goddess" symbol. There are a lot of goddesses with a lot of symbols.

I was referring to the Wiccan Goddess symbol (which isn't the official one, but its pretty common in the Wiccan faith). Its a full moon with a crescent moon on either side.

When I get the tattoo, I'm also going to have a pentacle put in the full moon part.

I'm seriously considering there, but I'm also thinking about this one spot on my back... however, I think I have an ugly back so I'm not so sure because the location it would be in is right at the top of my butt/bottom of my back and since I neither have an amazing back or a** I'm worried about it looking dumb.

I'm afraid of the pain, but I want to get it done really bad. My friend gave me a $60 gift certificate to pay for the tattoo from the place I'm gonna get it, but my mom had sounded cool when I told her about wanting it and that I wanted to get it in December if I had scrounged up the money, but when I got the money she freaked out.

I don't think that would look dumb either. Lots of people get tattoos on that part of their body. And I'm sure that part of your body is not ugly, so shush.

And that's odd that your mom didn't freak out about it when you told her, but now all of a sudden she has an issue because you have the money. I guess she might not have thought it was a real possibility before, and now that she knows you fully intend on going through with it, she has to actually think about it. Odd, but I've been in situations with my own mother where she acted just like that, so I dunno. I wouldn't let it dissuade you. Its your body and your life, she has no right to tell you what to do with it.

I'm going to refrain from my diatribe on what a bunch of amalgemated, stolen bullshit of mythos wicca is and just say that in about 10 years, you will be so unhappy to have that.

I don't think this is the place for a religious debate, so I won't say anything in response to that but this - please leave my choice of religion alone. It works for me, and why it does is none of your business.

I think it might be better than getting it on my stomach because that way if I ever look down while I'm in the shower or something and I don't want to see my dog's face because it'll upset me too much then I don't have to. Plus I won't see it all the time and possibly get tired of it later.

My mom knows I wouldn't get the tattoo when I don't have the money or I have other things to pay for, so she assumed it wouldn't happen. I think that's it. But I'm just afraid since she's reacting completely weird to every step of the process of me telling her I want it and that I have the money for it that she'll kick me out of the house over it.

Do you really think she'll be angry enough to kick you out? I'd like to think that she's adult enough to understand that a tattoo is not something to punish someone over, especially so drastically.

I don't know what she'll do, but she threatens to kick me out of the house pretty often over stupid things, so I'm afraid to risk it. I can't afford my own place.

That's harsh. Its not fair that she does that to you.

Yeah, she's not exactly the poster child of good parenting. Once I didn't get to the phone to answer it 'cause I couldn't hear her yelling at me to get it and by the time I got there the person hung up, she yelled at me for being a spoiled princess and an a**. She called me a b***h last night, too.

Oh wow. Why do you still live with her then? I got the impression that you're legally an adult now, anyway. And I know you said you can't afford it, so I guess I shouldn't even be asking, but that has to be so hard. I remember the summer I went back home after my first year of college and had to live with my mother again for the first time in almost a year, it was insane.

Yeah, I lived in the dorms when I was in college but my mom wouldn't even let me go to the college that was my dream to go to my entire life, even though I was paying for it... she just made me feel like I didn't have a choice. She wants me out but she wants to control me, and I hate upsetting her which is why I had horrible panic attacks at school (which she still refuses to believe I had, I was just "lazy")... So I resent her a lot because she couldn't just let me go to the school 3 hours away where I'd be with my best friends still and in a place that just felt like home. I really regret it...

But I just screwed up so bad trying to do what would make her happy, now it feels like a viscious cycle that keeps pulling me back. I don't have enough money but I work a lot as it is. I've almost moved out, but I would have to impose myself on a friend or move to Missouri and live with my boyfriend's grandmother and his grandpa (whom I want to throttle when I'm around because he's the only person I've ever wanted to cry within 4 hours of being in the same house with)... So I'm trying to wait out the next few months 'til hopefully my boyfriend can move down here and we can get our own place, like a one room apartment or something.

Aw man *comforts* Well I hope he moves there sooner rather than later. You shouldn't have to live in such a destructive environment.

I have a tattoo on the back of my right shoulder. I can't relate with the mom thing, cuz mine was a birthday gift from my mom when I turned 17. I can give you advice though.

First, make sure you sit down with your tattoo artist prior to the appointment and let him see your design. It's a great design, and would work really well, but if it's too small it'll run together and turn your doggie's face into a big blob. One thing you can do, is as him to place the tattoo on you temporarily (and yes they can do this, and usually will if they're good artists). This way you can have it for a full day (until you shower) and get a feel for what it's gonna be like to have that image on that part of your body.

As for the hurting thing, it aaaalll depends on where you get it. The first 5 minutes are the worst. After that, you just kinda get used to it. Feels like when you play with your kitten and she's scratching you all over the place but you never really feel it ya know? Afterward, it's gonna feel like you have a sunburn, but that's about the extent of the pain as long as you don't get it in a super sensitive area.

Also, make sure that you don't neglect your tattoo. Clean it the proper way and always keep the bandage on it when you're showering. The ink can and will wash out if the "wound" (so to speak) is still open and uncovered. I was afraid about touching it at all, but really the pain is extremely minimal, if it's even there at all. It's more of a discomfort than anything.

So, there's my advice. I hope you get a good artist to do it for you if/when you do it. Good luck!

Luckily I've got a tattoo artist picked out already. Not only is he a really good one (he's done multiple friend's tattoos), but he's also a really sweet guy. Plus, since I'm kinda buddies with him and his girlfriend is one of my best friends he's somewhat giving me a discount (not much of one, but enough of one).

He's already seen the image, I just need to make an appointment and whatnot.

I've heard about it feeling like a catscratch or like a needle being pulled along your skin, I'm just nervous about it because I've never felt that for prolonged periods of time. I'm so used to sunburns I'm not too worried about it feeling like one. I'm also really worried about it making a mess the first few nights when I'm sleeping.
