Janja nodded in agreement with Jedi, to confirm her sister's statement of them being born in the jungle. She glanced over at Jedi when she asked about the leopard's pride, wondering briefly if leopards lived in prides or not too. Nac lived with his family, but it didn't sound like they lived with anyone else. And this leopard was alone..

What she saw in Jedi's eyes made her smile. Jedi looked much more interested in the exploring now! As much as she enjoyed exploring herself, it was good to see something had sparked the interest in Jedi.

Her eyes flew back to the leopardess when Jedi questioned her, and she took a cautious step backward. Janja didn't want to turn and run suddenly, it might provoke the grumpy leopard. She simply shrugged, "We could go.." It was a simple suggestion, made loud enough so the leopard could hear her as well.

"You'll go when I'm finished talking to you," Mleli interupted their discussion on what to do now, neither were being quiet about it. She would be more than happy to see them go, but first she wanted to make sure they knew the jungle was not theirs. There were too many lions here, as far as she could tell. At least only one of them was foolish enough to claim they would own the jungle.

"Leopards do not live in prides," she continued, "And you may have been born here, but the jungle is not a lions' territory. Remember that, and you'll be fine."

The last thing she wanted was more lions like the white, red and blue one she'd met before. These cubs looked much less threatening, and she had a feeling that had something to do with their parents- she finally remembered the lioness she'd met that they reminded her of.

Jedi wanted to leave instinctually, this leopardess did not see the friendly sort and seemed to be keeping them around for her own plans, and when she said that the jungle was no place for a lion Jedi understood what those plans were. The leopard wanted the jungle to herself.

"If I was born here, doesn't that mean I'm allowed here?" Her voice had grown distand and cold, and glared at the leopardess, something that showed age and wisdom far beyond the small cubs grasp.

She suddenly knew she shouldn't have left her family, should have rolled over and left Janja, but that would mean her sister would be with the leopardess alone.

"We should have stayed with mum," she grummbled casting a glance at her sister.

Janja watched Mleli with a raised eyebrow when she said they would leave when they she was done talking to them. It seemed almost like it was a lecture, though their parents didn't give too many of them. She glanced over at Jedi when the leopard finished explaining that it isn't their jungle, and just when she looked back at Mleli Jedi spoke up. Janja froze, wondering if arguing was a smart idea- even if she agreed with her sister.

"Why not?" she asked, trying to sound more curious than cold, unlike her sister.

They live here, why shouldn't they? Why would a leopard not want lions in the jungle? She couldn't hold back a snort when Jedi mumbled about staying with mum. Janja didn't regret coming, though she might regret running into Mleli.

Not that they really could help it. She's the one that bothered them.

"Oh, you're allowed here," Mleli answered in a tone even icier than that used by the cub, one that was much more practiced. Her mood was back to about the same once again, though one cannot expect cubs to be repsectful. At least if they were fearful they wouldn't have tried to question it.

"Permission and ownership are two different things, small one," she emphasized the size comment to indicate that she was not at a physical advantage, though Mleli would not attack a cub, "Lions tend to believe they have the rule of the world. You can stay as freely as I can."

Maybe it wasn't exactly how she let on that she felt, but it was the best way to put it. She may think leopards are better than lions, but she was more in favor of no one thinking they controlled the jungle.

(I love your Hare!)

"I want to go hooome," Jedi whined, "Maybe..we can adventure later!"
She was confused by the large leopardess, cubs were not meant to be pulled into jungle politics, that's for sure!

The chubby cub stepped back and closer to her sister, her dark black fur rubbing against her sisters. She was trying, in a not so verbal way to tell her sister this was their cue to leave, if Mleli would allow them too. Jedi may not be the brains of all the cubs, but she was smart.

"Permission and ownership?" she whispered to herself.

Janja seemed to have a better grasp on what the leopardess was explaining to them than her sister did, but there were still questions about it in the back of her mind. Politics were not as mystifying to her as stereotypes and prejudices were. It was, perhaps, one of the few naiveties that she did inherit from her mother and father.

"We'll go, then," Janja whispered to her sister, stepping closer in return and nudging her almost protectively. Though she was older only by a couple minutes, she did feel the need to fill the 'big-sister' role. The 'small one' comment didn't go unnoticed by this cub, and it gave her reason to start feeling guilty for bringing Jedi along for this.

"I understand," Janja finally spoke up, Jedi clearly was finished running the conversation between them and the leopard. If they wanted to leave, obviously they had to let on that they understood what she was saying, "Lions don't own the jungle, they don't rule the world. We're not more special than you.." She chose the word 'you' for lack of better idea of what to say, Mleli didn't look like what she thought was a leopard so she'd settle for being more personal.

Mleli watched the cubs carefully, one seemed much whinier than the other, who seemed to be finally taking over the situation. Even if it was just telling the leopard what she wanted to hear, and she could sense some of that in what the cub said- she was not stupid, it seemed enough to satisify her. As impossible as cubs might seem, she knew it was easier than convincing some adults.

She would let them go off. The leopardess stretched out and made it clear she intended to leave. A small smile on her lips, she nodded to each of the cubs. Jedi got a longer look than Janja, the eyes caught Mleli's attention and reminded her strongly of Siku.

"Tell Siku I said hello," she instructed as her parting words. Perhaps it would leave them wondering, but she wasn't so concerned about that. No, her hopes were more on having made an impression. With that, she turned around and stalked off.

Jedi stayed quiet her heart pounding in her chest, she felt like she was always uncertain, and with such a short life? Why shouldn't she be. She nodded to her sister's words and kept her mouth shut, she would just have to go with the flow on this one.

"She know's mum," Jedi whispered as her the leopardess stalked off, "She knew..and she didn't say until now!"

Jedi wiggled uncomfortably and waited for her sister's comands, would they leave now? Or was Janja still feeling adventurous?

When the leopard walked away, Janja sighed in relief and sat down where she was. Her relief ebbed to slight confusion over Mleli's parting words- and she looked over to her sister, raising an eyebrow.

"She must know mum," she agreed, making a funny face, "We should ask mum about her later, we didn't go real far.."

There was a pause. They didn't go very far away, it was true, but they hadn't stayed safely cuddled up with mum and dad. Maybe it wouldn't be a good idea. They'd figure that out in the morning. Janja got back to her feet and turned around to smile at Jedi.

"Let's go back," she murmured.

Jedi jumped at the chance and turned and started moving the way that they had come. She did not wat Janja to get interested in something else, although she doubted it would happen. She never moved this fast, it was a real sign that she was truly terrified of the Jungle, and she didn't plan of coming back in here unless daddy AND mommy did.

"Do you think that leopards are all that cranky?" she joked looking at her sister.

Jedi wanted to stay little forever, and wanted nothing better than to follow Janja everywhere, except the jungle, "Do you really think Daddy and mommy will know we were gone, will they be mad?" her eyes sparkled with fear that she may be scolded.

Janja noticed her sisters enthusiasm at returning back to the waterfall, but she didn't say anything on the subject. She had no intention of dragging her sister elsewhere now. She was alittle disappointed by the way Jedi was suddenly acting like she was afraid of the jungle, afraid of their home. She made a face, and then followed after Jedi.

"I don't know, I met someone who said they were a leopard, but he didn't look like her," she murmured seriously, "Maybe boys don't look like girls, though."

The cub took a moment to stare ahead, being more careful now that they'd run into Mleli. Her cautious mood was dampered when Jedi asked a silly question with such seriousness, and she giggled under her breath.

"I don't think they'll notice we left, unless we tell them," Janja shook her head, "And they shouldn't be mad, we didn't get hurt or anything." The cub's logic was enough to satisfy any worries she may have had herself. With a small smile, she took the lead and jogged back in the direction of the waterfall.

Jedi's expression was one of relief, thnak goodness Janja was level headed. Jedi wouldn't know it yet but her place was not in the trees, it was out in the open. Of course, telling her that might make for some interesting conversation. She was extremely attached to her family

"What did the other one say?" she wasn't too sure about leopards and felt awkward knowing her sister had went on other adventures; alone.

"Are there other creatures that look like lions and leopards?"
PostPosted: Fri Oct 13, 2006 3:10 pm

"Not much, he just said he was a leopard, or that his mother was a leopard. I guess he was at least some leopard," she explained thoughtfully, the idea that it wasn't possible to have hybirds never had crossed her mind, "He did mention another leopard that he said was grumpy, so maybe lots of leopards are like that..."

She continued to lead the way back to the falls, lowering her voice the closer they got to the clearing. The last thing she wanted to do was wake up someone else. It would be bad enough if they did, in fact, get in trouble for wandering off, but waking someone up wouldn't help.

Besides, it was just the polite thing to do.

"I don't know, probably," she murmured, "If there isn't just lions, there must be more than lions and leopards.."

Jedi's chubby little belly swayed as she followed along behind her sister, they looked quite the same but there were very distinct differences, mind and body. Jedi would one day learn to be more like her sister; a leader and more intelligent. But for now she followed her sister like she was a great princess.

"I guess we'll see?" she mummbled and started to sprint slightly, her belly swaying faster. One day that belly fat would be worked off, but for now she had her chubby cub like figure, and she enjoyed being large, it meant she never went hungry.
