Nothin' but Blue Skies...

The ocean sped away in a glittering stream far below them, but it didn't seem so very far at all. Liamh could almost forget the roaring, vibrating bubble of steel and glass and moulded plastic that separated them from the warm, tropical skies and glistening waves.

But then, considering the height and speed, he'd really rather not.

He turned away, leaning back against the comfortable padding of the chair and adjusting the headset that blocked most of the noise. He glanced up at the cockpit, past the large, impeccably suited pilot and out the front windshield. He thought he could see land in the distance. What a relief it would be to finally get to the site and get settled in - he'd been in transit for about nine hours with various layovers, and while he never minded travelling for work, it didn't make it much less draining.

And he had to admit, he was eager to see this island resort he was going to be calling home for the next few weeks, even if it was going to be mostly work and staying indoors. He wondered idly how he'd gotten the lucky draw for this job, something about a personal reference for the contract. All well and good with him. He pressed his face to the glass again, staring down at the waves.

Would be a hell of a bad time to crash, wouldn't it?

"So," he called loudly over the rage of the whirlybird, "must be great piloting for a private resort, huh?" He frowned inwardly a moment, wondering if his own dad had ever landed a gig like this. Or if he could have stayed with it if he had. He glanced up at the front again.

The large pilot didnt' seem to notice Liamh's queries, or if he did, he chose to ignore them. However, Liam's wait was soon to be at an end, as the helicopter did indeed angle for the spot of land that Liamh had spotted.

It didn't take long for the strip on the horizon to become a relatively large-looking lush island crisscrossed with lakes that carved out blue trails through the thick green coverage. A single mountain crested near the Northern end, but Liamh only was rewarded with a distant-glimpse of it as the helicopter headed for a small, square landing pad.

Meanwhile, waiting on the hood of the Jeep just off said landing pad, Dr. Duvert waited for the newest arrival, hand shielding his eyes as he looked up at the sleek black chopper. His mood was favorable today - as it had been for the better part of the last couple of weeks, despite having the laudable position of second in command rescinded after Aubrey's return. He had still been able to more than carve out a comfortable niche between Aubrey's tentative current relationship with Moreau that kept both of them distracted. And, luckily enough, he was (currently) in Moreau's good graces - even having been rewarded with Moreau's usage of a serum that was pending his approval for islander-usage.

Today, the arrival was another individaul who had made it to Feral Lab's "dangerous" list - whether or not he knew what his hacking had exposed was moot. As far as the arrival knew, he was coming to wire the labs. While his serum had been pre-selected, there was still the requisite introductions. And even that hadn't lowered Sabin's mood.

So, absent of top-hat, his hair tied back at the nape of his neck, Sabin pushed to his flip-flop clad feet as the rushing wind from the helicopter's rotors blew his day-glow orange bermuda shorts and crimson-and-teal hawaiin shirt.

The jungle seemed to loom up quickly, almost frighteningly so as the helicopter circled the pad and then set down under a practiced hand on the tarmac. The engine cycled down with a high-pitched whine, the propellers settling into slower and slower rhythms. Liamh unhooked his seatbelts eagerly and went to grab his bags as the side door of the copter was opened and the hot, humid air came pushing in like a wall of dead weight. Ah, the tropics.

Liamh ducked out of the copter, stepping down and looking up warily at the quickly-slowing blades overhead. He glanced around, spotting the jeep parked nearby and the.... colorful... figure perched on the hood like a gargoyle on a cruise ship to Rio. White hair? He couldn't tell very well from this distance, but the man didn't look that old. Interesting.

The techie glanced back at the pilot to thank him, but he was already gone about tending to the plane. Liamh shrugged mentally and directed his attention elsewhere, finding his land legs again after all the sitting. He moved in the direction of the jeep, lugging his bags and threw a wave. "Uh, hey!" He flashed a wide grin. "Is this the right island? I was expecting Ricardo Montalbán, i think!"

The white-haired man gave a chuckle as his footwear audibly flapped against the asphault in his approach. "You've got the right place... Mr. Doradan, I presume?" Sabin grinned and extended his hand.

"I'm Dr. Sabin Duvert. And I have the honor of getting you aquainted. I don't think they sent you much information on the resort or the network specs that you're going to be helping us get up and running. But! Lucky for you, because the transit takes so long to get way the hell out here, you get the day off before you have to start working."

He gestured to his bags. "Can I help with anything? It will just be a quick jeep ride to the complex, a requisite vaccination, and then we'll get you settled for your stay."

Liamh set down one of the bags and gave the offered hand a shake warmly and nodded along. "It's a pleasure, Mr. Duv.. Duvay..." He pushed his glasses back up his nose before scooping up the bag again, though they slid down again soon enough. "You can call me Liamh, if protocol allows and all that."

"No, i haven't heard much, only that the network for the new resort needs some help setting up and getting all the firewalls and security working right... I think they've got all the physical cables laid, right? Or is that still in progress..."

He shook his head, waving off the help with the luggage and hefted it again, looking in the direction of the jeep.... and got a less than enthusiastic look on his face. "Uh, actually... if you wouldn't mind... kinda shorthanded..." He smiled and picked around through the various things... duffle bag, small rolling case, laptop case, over the shoulder bag... and held out a smallish-but-bulky one. And grinned again.

Then his face fell a bit. "Er, did you say vaccination?"

"Duvert" Sabin corrected with a smile. "And Liamh it is. Things are honestly fairly casual here... if my attire didn't attest to that already." He gave a wink and without harranguing the newcomer any more, reached to grab some of the escaping luggage and transport it to the waiting vehicle.

"And yes, that's correct: we've already got all of the wire laid, but setting it up and getting all of the computers talking to eachother is another matter entirely. There might be still a few areas where the wiring is unfinished, but it shoulnd't take too much longer."

Sabin always particularly enjoyed seeing individuals' reactions to hearing that they would receive an injection. It caught nearly all of them off guard. Some passed it off easily enough, for some, it was a slap in the face and a full derailment of their current mood or actions.

"Vaccination? Did I? Yes, actually. Nasty tropical fevers, mosquitos and all that." Sabin responded casually, as if they might be discussing options for tea.

He got the bags situated in the jeep and then opened the passenger door for Liamh before taking his own in the driver's seat, gunning the ignition.

Liamh gave a 'snrk', dropping into his seat and closing the door. "Yeah, i was admiring the fashion trend..." he picked at the front of his own hawaiian-print-shirt with a large flowered print as the engine roared to life under the eccentric welcoming committee's enthusiastic ministrations. "I guess i got the dress code right, then?" He looked around for the seatbelt.

"Mosquitos, huh," he said, looking a bit edgy. "West nile or anything? Or that... what's it called... that other one from Africa... Eh i dont' remember. Or maybe malaria? Ugh, i've heard malaria shots are pretty bad..." Where was that seatbelt? "Why's it that all the worst diseases are spread by mosquitos? I hate mosquitos. Can't see 'em. Can't find 'em. Just hear 'em, buzzing around next to your ear in the dark when you're trying to sleep..." he gave a small shudder.

Sabin couldn't suppress a small smile at Liamh's small rant and anxieties regarding the tiny bloodsuckers. Perhaps Liamh was lucky that his serum had been pre-selected, he thought with a glance towards the similarly-clad young man. What would a probiscus like that look like on a human scale...?

He dislodged his musings with a shake of his head and his foot to the pedal as he set off at a brisk rate down the narrow jungle path. "In my opinion at least. You'll see a lot of the medical staff in labcoats and other sterile hospital wear, but I say when in Rome. We're on a tropical island, after all."

He savored Liamh's uncomfortableness for a moment longer before responding. "You haven't had your malaria shots yet? Christ, most people have had that at least. But no, we've got a particularly virulent strain of Dengue fever here... you heard of it?" Sabin asked, turning his head away from the 'road' as he made a sharp turn following the path.

Liamh put a hand securely on the side of the jeep next to him when the jeep took off, since he hadn't found the seatbelt. "Huh? Oh, yeah, no, never had malaria shots... not much malaria where i come from."

He glanced around the jungle as it flashed past, sunlight flickering through the folliage like a dim green strobe. The jungle just stared back. Was it ominous? It wasn't ominous. Was it? Liamh wrinkled his nose, then gave it a rub with his knuckles. He hoped he wouldn't get some kinda freaky jungle allergies. Spores or something. Were there spores? He shook his head and turned his attention back to Duvert in the driver's seat next to him.

"Dengue? Uhh..." he wrangled his brain around trying to remember what the symptoms of it were. "Yeah, that's one of those African ones. Pretty severe, i think?" He said cautiously. That wasn't the sleeping one, was it? Nah, that started with a T. Or an S. Whichever.

"I guess you get all the bad ones down here, huh? Something about the climate. That's not exactly what they advertise at the travel agencies, i wager!" he gave a slightly nervous laugh. "They just show the white beaches and surf and tan people laughing at each other behind their Ray-bans. And those umbrella drinks." he gestured with his free hand.

Sabin took advantage of the fact that Liamh had yet to secure himself into the vehicle, taking the roads at a mad bounce, between the unfinished surface and numerous potholes, Sabin seemed to be traveling far faster than was safe. It was a good thing he knew the road so well...

"Yup, the moist air and the fact that it never freezes is great for bugs. They breed like crazy, and things can fester out in still collections of rainwater that almost never dry out." Sabin carried on unabashedly. "We'll get you a malaraia booster in the mix. But Dengue is a pretty nasty one that you don't hear a lot about - really high fevers, migraines... damage to blood vessels... bleeding from your mouth and nose... from your pores.... it ain't pretty. Good thing we figured it out and got a good supply of the vaccinations here, eh?" Sabin gave him a toothy grin with a strange look behind his eyes.

Liamh shuddered, not relishing THAT mental image! They hit a bump in the road and - having not been paying attention - he had to scramble to hold on again, peering at the other man nervously. He must be pretty familiar with these roads. Liamh HOPED he was.

"Yeah, please. Never thought i'd hear myself asking to be shot up, but bleeding from my pores doesn't sound like the way i'd wanna go. Sounds like.... sounds like a friggin' horror movie. Actually, i think i SAW that movie." His stomach was feeling a bit twisted into knots, though what percentage was from the descriptions and what percent was the wild, lurching ride, he wasn't sure. Just so long as he got off in one piece, and not prematurely...

He glanced over at Duvert again, feeling another slight uncomfortable shiver going up his spine, though he had the oddest feeling it wasn't from either the conversation or the ride...

Eventually, Liam's savior arrived in the form of a massive gate in the road, coinciding with an abrupt end of the jungle. The Feral Labs logo was emblazoned across the metal gateway, which swung open as the jeep barrelled through it to skid into a parking space.

Unruffled, Sabin hopped out of the driver's seat and walked around to open the door for the white-knuckled Liam.

"You can leave your bags in the car. I'll drive you to your room after the injection." He grinned. "I think I saw that movie as well. But it's nothign like seeing it in person, let me tell you. Diseases are a very nasty subject. Killing you from the inside out." He shook his head and started to walk towards the mirrored doors of the immense laboratory complex, glancing back over his shoulder to indicate that Liamh should follow.

Liamh sat blinking for a moment before peeling his hand from the edge of the seat beside him. He put his head down and rolled his way out of the jeep. "..ehehh... Yeah..." He glanced around, feeling oddly on display in front of the guards, and glanced back at his bags nervously. He hoped they wouldn't be tossed around... especially not his laptop. She wasn't the most delicate lass, but she wasn't built for shot-putting, even in her case.

Following Sabin, Liamh glanced at the reflective surfaces as they passed through the doors. "So, will there, uh, be any reactions to the shot? Or shots? I've heard sometimes when you get innoculated you get a mild case of the disease just so your white blood-cells can burn it out, right? Is that just some of 'em? I'd rather not have any dengue, if it can be avoided...."

Blast it, he grumbled inwardly, why couldn't there just be some kind of biological antivirus scanner they could implant you with? He rolled his eyes at himself at the stupid thought. Most computer technology was based on organic anatomy, not the other way around. Skin: the original firewall. Pretty clever when you - he stopped suddenly, remembering to watch where he was going and follow that strange Duvert fellow. Not that the bright colors were hard to miss.

Sabin led Liamh through a plush waiting room - full of inviting couches, coffee tables with magazines to read, and a beautiful full-wall window that overlooked the jungle and, beyond that, the sea. It was a beautiful sight, but Sabin didn't even bother to look, pushing instead onwards and through the doors at the other end of the room.

"well, yes, that is how most vaccinations work. You might get a bit of a fever tonight, but if you get some tylenol at the town center then you should be feeling fully functional by morning at the latest." Sabin responded to Liamh's concerns. "I mean, you almost never hear about vaccinations causing the full-blown diseases." He let the statement hang on the air for a few moments before continuing as he proceeded down the sterile hall towards the elevator bay.
"After all, we are in a medical facility!" He finally finished with a laugh. "What better place to to be if you have to get sick?"

Medical Facility. Liamh let that thought knock on the door of his mind for a moment before processing it. Well, a resort had to have medical facilities, this far away from the mainland, right? Still, there was nothing so far that seemed to scream "resort".... maybe these were just very well-protected offices. After all, the resort wasn't fully constructed yet, from what he'd heard. "Yeah, true, gotta have doctors on hand in a place like this..."

Liamh stared out the window as they passed. Okay, maybe THAT screamed 'resort'. "Nice view..." he muttered under his breath. Then he glanced over at Sabin again, catching most of what the other man had said. "Oh, right. I'll see if they've got any. Hope it won't be too bad." Something in Sabin's tone didn't settle right in his guts, but he tried to shake it off as they moved up the corridor.

"Town center?"
