The door of the tavern was cracked open and the girl looked over the rim of her shades into the dim interior. Her clothes were covered in a light coating of dust, and her died magenta curls were looking a little worse for wear these days. A beaten looking backpack over one shoulder and a handful of bare looking resumes in her free hand it was rather obvious why she was here....although she would be very lucky if they believed her when she said she was old enough to work in a tavern, Sam was getting tired of nice people nicely telling her that they didn't need any help, and the handful of change in her pocket was a real motivator to make her keep asking.
Slipping her shades up on top of her head to reveal bright violet eyes, a color that almost seemed to glow in the dark, she took a deep breath and tried to look a little more confident as she stepped into the tavern and looked around for someone who worked here.
The place looked rather empty at the moment, and so she simply headed for the bar, smiling shyly at the dark young man already sitting there as she slipped up onto a stool next to him.

His ear wiggled softly at the new sound, and he looked in surprise at the girl that had shuffled onto the stool next to him. Cro blinked uncertainly at the way she looked, which was a little worse off then what he looked like.
"Hi..." He said softly. Erm...what did he say next again? He knew there was a list of things that you say vaugly to make small talk to pretty girls, even if they were a bit dishevled...but for the life of him, he'd forgotten what that was. Cro scratched the side of his cheek and looked behind the bar thoughtfully. First time away from home...no that was creepy, how long have you been around...erm no that didn't sound right either...he wasn't trying to find a date, just be pleasent....so he settled for.
"How are you?"

Sam tried really hard not to jump... that always had the second worst reaction from people when they were obviously just trying to be polite.. it was still a little hard to figure out what to do when people were talking to her sweatdrop
"Um, Hi... I'm..."Wait a second here.. this was one of those moments where you were supposed to just lie, she really hated doing that, but she had learned that answering that question with the truth never worked out well for her.
"I'm fine thanks..." Brushing a few stray curls back over her shoulder with another shy smile she managed to force the answer out, wishing she didn't look so rough right now so as to fool people into believing she was really alright... She thought she remebered the next step in this strange dance and held out her hand to shake, silver finger nails flashing even in the dim light. "How are you?"

She might as well have broken a dam.
"Complete and utter crap." Teeth flashed in the darkness. A smile that knew that was an unexpected answer.
"I lost my buisness, most of my contacts, and am in debt to someone I'd rather not talk about." The tail twitched in irritation.
And he'd not had any coffee this morning...that had been the final straw really.
Cro loved his coffee.
Hell, he even smelled like the stuff.

eek She almost couldn't believe it... another person who actually spoke their mind! whee Sam ended up bent over in a fit of giggles, a sure sign that she was younger than she looked. It had been a rough few weeks trying to figure out all the unspoken laws that ran the human world, and honestly she was at her wits end trying to keep them all straight.
Sam brushed her hair back again, a sure sign of a nervous habit, and grinned. "I'm Sam... Pleased to meet you." 3nodding

Believe it or not, Cro had issues along that line of his own. The complicated rituals always usually just fell apart for him about the same rate as they had for this conversation.
"Hi Sam." He blinked at the name, he knew a Samantha as well, though she and this girl were quite differant, it always helped to remember names to think of someone close with a similar one. "I'm known as Cro. Pleasure to meet you. Though I wish the circumstances were a little better."

sweatdrop "They haven't kicked me out yet Cro, so honestly curcumstances aside this has been the nicest few minutes that I can remember in the last week at least..." Sam liked Cro... he was being really forward.. and that was something she deffinatly admired.
"I hope they need some help in here... towns in this area are way too far and few between." rolleyes She sighed showing a bit of her frustration as she leaned a elbow on the counter and cuped her chin in her hand.

For a scant moment between the exchange of words, a black cat pawed it's way up to the middle of a table and mewled loudly. It was rather distinctive, for a simple black cat - it's eyes didn't quite look like that of a feline. Rather, they were a dull black much like the rest of his fur - save a few bright red streaks along his back, almost seeming to make the outline of wings of some sort. After his small announcement, he curled up into a ball and fell fast asleep, tail twitching every now and again.
It seemed this was all that was needed for a pair of brown eyes to poke out from the door to the kitchen, a hand along with them to push some emerald strands of hair out of the way. "Customers."
Not waisting any time, Rage bounded out into the eatery, giving a short introduction. "Hey there, and welcome to the Firebrand. I'm Rage, your order-taker-slash-cook-slash-bartender-slash... well, you get the idea. Anything I can get for you guys?" Maybe he was being a little too friendly - he actually pulled up a chair and sat down at the table.
He didn't so much as bat an eye at either of them. In fact, he seemed downright comfortable. Perhaps he was just well-versed in the volume of different people that passed through the doors of the restaurant.

"Hi, um.. nice to meet you sir." Sam tried to remember if this was an appropriate time to shake hands or not.. she settled on simply slipping off the bar stool to smile at Rage. "I'm Sam..and I was wondering if you were in need of some temporary help..."
The young woman held out one of the sheets of paper to Rage, a resume... a short list of odd jobs, none of them lasting more than a few weeks at the most, but the addresses of the places she had listed could be used as a clear map to trace her steps back the last three months. "I'm willing to do almost anything..." There was definite emphases on the almost... someone had taught her the lesson of thinking literally in the last little while...

A bird flew overhead, silently observing the area with its sharp senses. No one would notice from this high up that the eagle was looking for something or someone specific- it simply circled high above the beach as if making a thorough search before going any further down.
And lo and behold- a building. It could only see the roof and the top of the sign from here, but it was enough of a place to start. Still, this was a quite familiar eagle- the one from Barton who had unfortunately found nothing within the city limits.
Perhaps something would be found here...

"Someone wants to work for us?" Owle poked her head out of the kitchen, having just finished putting a loaf of bread in the oven. Nothing like warm bread...
"Now there's something you don't see every day..."
She walked out into the common room, revealing that, beyond the oddity of the blue hair that crowned her head, she had armor-like scales covering her shoulders and her feet, both of which were otherwise bare at the moment. They weren't even proper lizard scales; no, they were much too big for that, about an inch in diameter. They clinked on the floor as she walked, betraying just how hard they probably were.
"I'm Owle, and it's a good to see a new face around here." She turned to regard the feline man, noticing him for the first time. "Two new faces!" she exclaimed happily. Since Rage seemed to be taking care of Sam, she bounded over to Cro...though unlike Rage, she kept what she thought a respectable distance and didn't sit down next to him. "Can I get you anything?" she asked, the energy and friendliness in her voice genuine.

The eagle perched happily on the sign of the tavern, and seeing as it was a good vew from which to look down, it could most likely catch any sign of the hair color of the one it was looking for. Still, that naturally was not enough... and it was rather intelligent all around.
Still, it waited for a bit there until something happened..

A small, almost unseen bead of sweat rolled down the side of Rage's head. There was a short moment of silence before Rage got back to talking. "Well, almost anything works for me. We could always use another set of hands around here. Watts and his dwarfs do well and all, but sometimes you need somebody whose height doesn't top out at your waistline...."
There was a gruff "harumph" from a pair of horns behind the bar, followed by dwarfen cursing, if anyone could even understand what Watts said in the first place. A closer inspection would reveal that the horns were actually attached to a helmet, which was attached to a round-looking dwarf cleaning glasses. "As far as I'm concerned as long as you're not out to kill anyone... on my staff, anyways... it won't be a problem. Only catch is we can't pay you too much, outside of room and board. And food, of course. You get to keep your own tips though, if that's any consolation." He wasn't good at this whole interviewing thing he had heard about, particularly since he had never had a proper job in his life. He desperately hoped he wasn't scaring the girl off, and thus took an immediate interest in the resumè he had been given a moment ago.
It was about this time that he heard Owle. He had long since mastered the art of telepathically speaking with her (although he was not a telepath himself), so it wasn't a problem to respond with "I know. I'm as surprised as you are."

It probably wasn't what the bird was looking for, not at all. But a window slid open, and a little boy's legs slid out of it, a bushy wolf's tail soon following them. Within moments there was a child dangling off one of the upstairs windowsills, bright green eyes looking down at the roof of the awning three feet beneath him. He waited there for a moment, the wolf ears that emerged from his tousled brown hair twitching as they listened to the noise coming from the tavern.
Wolf hybrids weren't so uncommon on Gaia as to be a rare sight, but something made this little boy stick out. He had wings.
They didn't look like they did him any good, seeing as how he was dangling out a window, but, still, they were wings. On closer inspection it looked as though they were made of some plush material, the rough stitches that had sewn them together clearly visible on the outside.
"Shh!" the boy whispered, noticing the bird on the signpost. Having seen several talking animals in his short life, and knowing his mother could change into one, he often assumed such creatures were more intelligent than they were. He really didn't want this bird making a ruckus and drawing the attention of his mother, or, worse yet, of Verde.

"Well, it'll be nice to have someone new around, at least...no offense, I love hanging with you, but when you're gone I've just got Watts and the dwarves around to keep me company..."A shudder ran through those words. Apparently she couldn't understand what Watts was saying, either.
