Mecca smiled down at her as they walked past the fish market and then turned his eyes to the sky. "You will see when I get it." He said, taking a left down one of their familiar back alleys, past the sleeping taverns and brothels. The paths were wet from the rain the night before and children ran past them laughing. It was a day Mecca would usualy dispise. But today was different. He was going to his favourite shop.
"Are you sure you are well?" He asked again.

She couldn't resist, though she knew she should, and leaned her head against his shoulder as he refrained from telling her what the surprise was. She smiled at the children and watched the familiar windows and shop names slip past.
"Of course. Would I lie to you?" she asked, finally lifting her head and looking up at him for a moment before she went back to watching their surroundings.

"He works you to hard." He said as they walked slowly towards the shop. "You look tired."
The shop was much like the old Taliesin had been. in a tiny house. Mecca smiled at Covet and pulled the door open, a windchime sounded, low and mellow. The shop smelled of incense and was, like Taliesin had been, in need of a good clean.
"Laurete?" he said standing in the book lined room, his eyes trying to search out the owner of the shop.
"Ah, Mecca. I was expecting you." An aging forest green Shu appeared from the back of the shop, wiping his hands on a dusty apron. "And who might this pretty young thing be?"
Mecca gave the old shu a smirk. "This is my partner, Covet. Covet, this is Laurete, the shop owner."

Covet smirked a little but did not correct him. She was tired, but it had nothing to do with Matador. He was starting to say the same as well, thus the reason why she had the next few days off. As they stepped in, her green eyes watched the windchime, a soft smile playing across her lips at its rich tones for such a small thing. She then looked around as Mecca called out to someone, her eyes following the long lines of books. At the sound of a new voice, her attention was drawn back towards the back of the shop and she smiled lightly at the old shu's compliment. She looked up at Mecca as he made the introductions and then back to Laurete.
"It is my pleasure to meet you," she smiled prettily at him and bowed her head a little towards him.

"I think the pleasure is mine." The old shu said brushing his fingers through his pale blue hair. A cascade of dust flew into the air causing him to sneeze.
"I'm glad to see young Mecca has a pretty face to distract him from all the books he reads." Laurete laughed, a low wheezy sound. "I keep telling him he'll end up like me if he's not careful."
Mecca smirked and turned his cold eyes to a pile of books on the cluttered desk. "Are those for me?" He asked, releasing Covet and taking a step towards the pile. "Do you have the other item i ordered."
Laurete nodded and smiled. "Of course, I shall fetch it for you. Make yourself at home young Covet."

Her smile warmed considerably as the old shu ran his hand through his hair, causing himself to sneeze. She actually blushed at his next words, but joined in softly with her own laughter as she looked up at Mecca. The crimson shu never failed to surprise her. She never would have known he would keep the company of another such as Laurete. She remained where she was as Mecca pulled away until she received Laurete's invitation to make herself at home. Smiling happily, she made her way over to the shelves and slowly ran a teal tipped finger over the spines of the books as her green eyes absorbed the titles of each one she passed.
"This place is amazing. And you've been keeping it from me?" she smirked and glanced over her shoulder at Mecca.

Mecca picked up the first book in the pile of his orders and smiled as he ran his fingers over the cover. At her words he looked up and over to her. "I did not know you enjoyed books so much." He said, turning his eyes back to the books on the table.
"Laurete can get you any kind of book you might need. He likes icons, or garden ornaments." Running his satisfied eyes over his purchases he placed them back in a pile and took an old cloth bag from his pocket.
"Do you see anything you like?" He asked walking over to her side.

Covet returned to scanning the hundreds of books as he told her what Laurete could do and what it was he would do it for. At his question, she smirked and kept her eyes on the books as she answered.
"Where to begin," she smiled in reply. She paused on a particular one and hesitated a moment before pulling it off the shelf. She carefully examined the cover and flipped it open to a random page. Her eyes quickly scanned over the page and smiling more, she slowly closed it to return it to the shelf.
"And to think, I was impressed with your collection," she smirked as she continued running her eyes and finger along the length of the shelf.

Mecca gave a small snort of laughter and watched over her shoulder as she flipped through the books. "If you want anything, you may put it with my order." He said stepping away and allowing his eyes to scan the shelves. "You can start your own collection."
Having found what he was looking for Laurete emerged from the back of the shop. "Here you are Mecca." He said handing the crimson Shu a wrapped book shaped box.
Mecca nodded and smiled. "Thank you." He said reaching into his pocket and handing over his payment for the lot.

She almost didn't hear his offer as he stepped away. Her eyes had found a book of ancient songs and their histories. Barely containing her excitement, she eased the book carefully from the shelf and ran her fingers lovingly over the cover before opening it to read a random page. She was completely oblivious to Laurete's return, until she realized that Mecca was paying for his order. Closing the book carefully, she spun around in a small swirl of skirts and closed the space between them.
"I could have this one Me-chan?" she asked looking up at him, temporarily forgetting that they were in public in her excitement of her discovery.

Mecca looked down at the book and nodded, looking up at Laurete so see if his payment would cover the purchase. Laurete nodded and looked down at the small statue lovingly before looking up to give a wink to Covet.
Mecca placed all the books, and his parcel into the bag and looked up at Laurete. "Thank you. As usual it was a pleasure doing business with you."
Noddin his head in a small greeting he turned on his heels to walk out of the shop.

Covet smiled brightly as her book was added to the purchase and she returned Laurete's wink with one of her own.
"Thank you Laurete. It was a pleasure meeting you," she smiled warmly at the old shu. She turned and quickly followed after Mecca, slipping her arm around his as they stepped back out into the gorgeous day. Again she blinked at the sudden brightness and almost instantly all of her exhaustion settled back over her. Truly, it was starting to irritate her now that it had intruded upon and dulled the excitement she had been feeling just moments before.
"Thank you Mecca," she said, looking up at him.

"You are welcome." He said as they walked, he always felt better when he visited the book shop. Laurete understood the concept of privicy and discretion. "I think we should go back to the house." He said looking out across the market to the seafront. "You can rest and I can give you your present."

"Alright," she smiled up at him. Again as they walked, her head eventually found its way to his shoulder and she had never been happier to see his home when they finally arrived. She waited for him to unlock the door and followed him inside. Walking into the shop, she yawned and took up residence in the chair she had abandoned earlier, curling herself up into a ball so she could rest her chin on her knees.
"So are you going to finally show me this big surprise?" she asked, arching a brow, intensely curious as to what it was he had gotten for her.

Mecca watched her with concern and reached into his bag. Taking out the wrapped package from his bag he handed it to her and pulled a stool up towards her chair. "I thought you could start your own journal." He said, tracing his finger down her leg. "Of our expeditions." In side was a journal, made in the city of the Arcane, magic lighted it's surface and made the colours on the front appear to move and shift as you stared at it.
